    Salmon Plate
    Mecca F.

Small Quaint spot with limited inside seating. Street parking and orders take time from order to delivery. I would recommend calling order for takeout. There is foot traffic but only two works. The cook and the order taker. The order taker was kind and friendly and was great at letting guest know about the wait between ordering. We dined in the food was delivered to our table. Plates ordered seafood plate, pork chops plate, Salmon plate. Plates come either two sides of choice. One Seafood plate was fried cod and shrimp the other was blackened salmon with grilled shrimp. My shrimp was seasoned and flavorful. The Salmon was prepared perfectly. Sides choices collard greens, MacNCheese, and candied yams. The ladies had concern with the yams, but he remade them. I thought the send try was an improvement. However my ladies wasn't impressed period. Overall my husband loved his salmon plate I enjoyed my plate so we were satisfied. Great portions!

    oxtail lunch special

I thought I was going to get the catfish or chicken, but I ended up splurging on the oxtail special came with two sides. I ended up getting greens and potato salad. I ate the oxtail for lunch with a little bit of rice I had leftover from another meal. The oxtail was fall off the bone tender and the a flavor bomb I had a hard tome not licking the bowl. I hadn't even heard about this place till today when a friend suggested going here since we were next door picking up bbq at The Barbecue Pit.My order of oxtail was $25 and came with two side I selected the greens and potato salad. The potato salad is packed with different veggies and is well seasoned. The greens are good I'm used to some with a little more kick, but still secent I wish I knew this oxtail would be on the menu all the time I'd definitely come back just for it. My friend got the catfish that came with fries. I'm not a catfish expert but one of the better I've had some places are dry from over frying. I gave may friend a piece of oxtail for a piece of the catfish. It was moist and flavorful the coating was nice and well seasoned.

Very seldom do I give a bad review BUT...I would not recommend eating here right now. The owner was so nice and he refunded all of our money. He was the only one there- no cook no cashier. He obviously needs some staff to help him out. For me on our visit, my family could not eat the food. The greens tasted like they were from a can. The yams were runny. The pork chop looked and smelled funny. The cornbread was dry. The food did not look appealing. But, the owner did refund our money and was very apologetic. I sincerely hope he gets it together. He seemed like a hard worker, running a restaurant solo. In a couple of months give this place a try. At some point he had really good reviews.

Food was good, I got the catfish and some sides. Everyone was friendly, just that there were not many people working at the time so it was slow to get. But it makes for a nice thing to take out. I took mine to the park and it was really enjoyable. When I am in Seattle next, I will probably come back again.

Great food. Great service. Only one person working so it took a while but I can appreciate the freshly cooked food.

Shrimp n grits and catfish poboy

Yabba Dabba Doo! We noticed this restaurant on the Seattle restaurant week list, so decided to order takeout on a Friday night. The orders were a bit backed up, took an hour or so for the food to get ready. But the wait was so worth it! We got the shrimp and grits, full of flavor with the shrimps and mushrooms dancing on a bed of grits. The catfish poboy can seriously be shared between 2 small people, with plenty of crinkle cut fries. The bread was also crunchy and fresh. I wish they marinated the catfish with some herbs, that would certainly have me coming back just for the catfish!

Okay I waited for my 2nd trip here to confirm just how good it is. Shrimp - ordered the fried shrimp and I can confirm without a doubt that it is the best fried shrimp I ever had. The shrimp are big, juicy, and most importantly crunch. I believe have a flour breading instead of a cornmeal batter. They are seasoned and the 6 count will be more than enough. Fries - OMG, if the owner sees this message please please please continue to serve the battered French fries. The first time I had the fries they were just basic and okay, but the second time they had the same breading as the shrimp. It was sooo delicious. Sides- This is why 1 star was deducted. I had the Mac n cheese, and potato salad. None of the sides are worth having again, with the exception of the battered fries. The Mac n cheese was runny, the potato salad tasted store bought.

Grilled pork chop plate with red beans and rice and greens

Tried this place out the other day & MAAAAANNN. This review is mainly about the "seafood platter" plate. The catfish was DIVINEEE. It was the perfect seasoning and consistency with the batter where it felt coated but light and fluffy. The shrimps were huge and tasty! The collard greens are a 10/10 for me & those candied yams are no joke! The lemon pepper wings were fire, especially if you live for that lemon tang like I do. I was hoping that they were fried, so I was a bit disappointed but I threw them in the oven real quick to make them crispier and it was perfect! The grilled pork chop was pretty good.

It is a cute, quaint Restaurant. I ordered the Fried Chicken, 7 pieces, with Greens and Mac-N-Cheese and cornbread. The chicken was fried to perfection. The Greens were good but I don't like the stems. The Mac was really good oh and the Cornbread was moist and tasty. I also ordered the Sweet Tea which was good. I give my meal a 9/10. My Cousin ordered the Gumbou and Rice and Red Beans and Rice and she also ordered Apple Pie which turned out to be Peach pie. She said the Gumbou was a 9/10, Red Beans and Rice 2/10, they tasted like Pepper no other Seasonings. As for the Pie she said it was ok being that the crust was hard and also thinking it was Apple. Maybe the Dessert should be labeled. Customer Service was Above and Beyond he was so nice and took his time explaining everything we asked him about. The restaurant is very clean, was greeted by two servers working, friendly atmosphere, noise level was average and it's a smaller establishment, please keep that in mind. We ordered the french fries which are shoestring fries, side of catfish, a side of red beans and rice, and a side plate of fried green tomatoes, which comes with four bite-size pieces. Being from the south born and raised, I'm a particular about my catfish and even though the breading had flavor, the catfish to me did not taste very clean plus there was a hair stuck to the breading of the catfish. It wasn't a small hair. The mystery hair either fell in the oil or it was in the batter is my guess. Because when I went to break the catfish apart, that is when it sprung the rest of it out, there was a small curl tip sticking out of the top of the fish. Unfortunately, the green tomatoes had absolutely no flavor. I will say the red beans and rice had the most flavor. I could taste the seasoning and the spice with a little bit of heat. I also really appreciate that there was some veggies mixed in with some meat as well. The shoestring fries it's either a hit for some or a miss and for me it was a miss, but I've had lots of different kinds of shoestring fries from multiple locations, and different states. It's a hard one to make. They were fried crispy and excellent. I would say it's more of the seasoning that was a dislike. The decor throughout the restaurant was beautiful to view. There are photos of the owners their family and friends. Not only could I see the love and commitment put into this restaurant, but also I could feel it as soon as I walked in. My takeaway is for the cooks to wear hairnets and if they have beards, to also put nets on their beards to further prevent hairs falling into people's food. Fried green tomatoes are not an item that can be found at most restaurants. It's easy to make but definitely the seasoning on it could be improved. Also, possibly just going simple with the seasoning like salt and a little pepper on the shoestring fries, sometimes keeping it simple is the best. A topic I want to touch on, not because I got it, but because going through the reviews prior to coming not too many people were discussing the waffles and this was a direct witness of what I could see. I did not taste it so I can't describe how the waffles tasted, but they look like they were cooked golden brown, which was nice but they are I would say more on the thinner side than what I usually see at places that serve chicken and waffles. If you are reading this review and you are looking for a place that serves you a nice thick waffle please do not come here because you will be disappointed, and I do not want people being disappointed when they are looking for something in particular and they end up ordering something that they did not want. Besides my recommendations, as I mentioned, this is a place that is full of love and commitment and I appreciate the community that has supported this establishment. It is not easy keeping a restaurant open and it's even harder these days being a person of color to even have your own establishment. As always, my friends be safe out there. Thank you for reading this review and I'll see you at my next bite *=*

The clams and mussels with Lao sausage were hands down my favorite dish - so savory, unique, and packed with flavor. I know it would be something my mom would have loved to try! The collard greens with neck bone meat were another standout. Every bite was unforgettable. The wait here is no joke, so I highly recommend making a reservation. I think we waited an hour and half to get seats for two, but worth it! We were fortunate enough to be seated after closing, and despite the long wait, the staff remained incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Their hospitality made the experience even more special. So shoutout to the staff! The only dish that didn't wow me was the trout - it was a little mild and could've used a squeeze of lemon to brighten the flavors. We had high hopes as we love Southern food. We ordered the Sweet Potatoes Hoe Cakes, Mac N' Cheese, Classic Greens, UNC's Wings, Pork Chops, and the Grilled Berbere Steak. The Hoe Cakes were the best 4/5 but tasted like buttery cornbread, good, but nothing special. The Mac N' Cheese was 3.5/5 and were tasty and very cheesy. The classic greens were tasty but came in a small ramekin 3/5. The UNC's wings were okay, tasty and crunchy, but we've had better wings at dozens of restaurants 3/5. The pork chops were decent but dry 2.5/5. The steak was a bit fatty, gristly and bland 2.5/5. A three rating being average. Service was attentive but nobody bothered asking how the food was or we would have openly told them. For the price, there are much better options elsewhere. I was a little turned away from ordering the gus with the fried chicken because of the price alone ($27 compared to the others which were $16-$19). You paid at the register and sat down with a number - the diner like seating was vibey. Its a lot... im a big guy and a big eater and I could only eat half. The biscuit was great, and the gravy tasted a lot like Cracker Barrels sawmill gravy. The service was fine...simple order at the counter and seat yourself. The decor was cute kind of between industrial and farmhouse. Would I come again? Im not sure. Maybe in the winter because the food sits heavy and the cost is a tad pricey BUT...I truly think everyone should try it at least once.
