Stopped by Cookie's on the way to a Mariner's game and WOW. This fried chicken spot is a game changer. The meals felt very customizable. You can choose the spice level for each chicken dish, as well as choose a side (in addition to fries!) for each combo. We went with the CCCKFCFB (a bowl with nuggets, mashed potatoes and gravy) as well as the hot honey sandwich with mac and cheese. It was definitely more than enough food for two people, and reasonably priced. The chicken was juicy, crispy, and hot out of the fryer. We chose two sauces, garlic and habanero ranch, and the ranch was a bit spicy/overpowering for our taste. I would definitely try more of their sauce selection in the future. I've been to this location during different iterations from Radici, D & E Pioneer Square and now Cookie's Country Chicken. I've always enjoyed my meals in this space. CCC is no different. I ordered the 2 piece tendies, fries with a side of pot o' gold - mashed potatoes, corn and gravy, which was comforting. The tendies were crunchy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. This is as close to Hattie B's Nashville hot chicken as I've found in the Seattle area. Delicious. Don't judge a book by its cover, when you see the Location and the outside it's not in the best part of town. It does have parking out front and a nice bathroom. I had passed Cookie's Country Kitchen many times before I finally got to try it. Usually it was too early in the morning, but I'd looked at the menu in the window and scoped out what I wanted to try. This evening, the stars (and buses) aligned, and I finally got in. I walked into an open and warmly inviting space with several tables and a counter at the far end. I was greeted with a smile and an invitation to take my time. She asked about the book I was reading while I perused the big menu board. I admit, I was tempted. The chicken sandwiches look amazing. I wavered...but then I remembered. The Poutine Bowl was what I was there for. She smiled when I ordered and said "Oh yeah, that's good." Ten minutes later, I confirmed it - she was right. So very good. My picture only captures the top couple layers. Within the bowl are big pieces of tender, boneless fried chicken, over a layer of delightfully gooey, melty cheese curds, over yet another layer of crispy fries. All covered with just the right amount of rich gravy and flavored well. The Canadians might have invented poutine, but Cookie's might have just perfected it. A couple words of advice, if you're going to try the poutine bowl too. Get a fork - it may be possible to eat it with your hands, but I'm but actually not 100% sure about that. Get some napkins, because even with a fork it's probably going to get messy. And if you can, try to take your time. It's a lot of food, and worth savoring. It might have taken me a while to try Cookie's Country Kitchen, and already I can't wait to go again. Maybe I'll even eventually get one of those sandwiches. read more

Cookie's is like KFC, but a thousand times better. And it deserves to have a line out the door. No complaints as I can enjoy amazing fried chicken drama-free, but I'd love to see them draw crowds to Pioneer Square. My top pick goes to the "KFC bowl," which has a much longer name on the menu. It's basically a much better version of a Famous Bowl, juicy fried chicken pieces swimming in mashed potatoes and corn. When I crave a Thanksgiving meal, this is what I go for. The "Barn Burner" chicken sandwich is also very good, particularly when it comes to the pickles. I opted for the habanero spice and found it to be more heat than flavor, so I would go for level 1 or 2 next time. The french fries are tasty albeit salty. Luckily you can choose from other sides including mashed potatoes. On my next visit, I will try a few pieces of chicken and some sides. For everyone else, get yourself over to Cookie's. The place is a casual spot that features ample seating for small groups and individuals, with a lot of people getting takeout. The menu is straightforward, with just three lunch combinations, three chicken sandwiches and a handful of different sides to choose from for your combo. It's all about $15 before tax and tip, which is a cheap lunch in the Seattle area. You order and pay at the counter and pick a table afterwards where staff delivers your food. I ordered the Barn Burner chicken sandwich, which is a fried chicken breast sandwich that's spicy with iceberg lettuce, pickles and mayo. For this sandwich, you can choose your spice level, and I went with two stars, which was not spicy at all. But that didn't bother me because the chicken breast was juicy and flavorful, and I am not a chicken breast fan. I usually find it bland, but this one had good flavor and was perfectly fried. I especially liked the pickles with, for some crunch. Bun was nice and soft. And the sandwich was a good, big size. For a side, I chose the fries, which were double fried, which is how I love my fries! They were crispy and had a nice zest to it, and loved the rowdy ranch sauce I got with. My colleagues all enjoyed their lunch too. The mashed potatoes and gravy side looked hella good, but now that I had the fries here, I'm hooked. Pioneer Square needed a good chicken joint and Cookie's Country Chicken answered the call. The food is high quality and the staff member at the register was a really nice guy. If you dine in you have to bus your own table. If they decide to expand I think they would do well on Capitol Hill. So I got the #1 combo. The chicken sandwich is HUGE. I didn't even get to my side of Mash 'Taters. Ended up taking the leftovers home. Now that they've opened this week I think they'll get a lot of foot traffic from Pioneer Square workers, Waterfront construction workers, and Mariners fans. Concerts at Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park will also bring in hungry folks. It's about a 5-7 minute walk from the International District/Chinatown Station. I stopped in to try this place for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. The interior is very cute and their menu is simple and easy to follow. I ordered the Barn Burger sandwich with 1 star heat and a side of mac & cheese. This was genuinely the best chicken sandwich I've ever had!
