I tried a few tacos and the ceviche. All of it was pretty solid but nothing really blew me away. Mostly, I don't think that the food truck model works for knife and fork seafood. At least not for me. Taco truck in Silverlake that specializes in fresh, delicious seafood. The service is very friendly and the area is pretty chill despite being so concentrated with the eateries/ markets in the area. This place came on my radar because I was dining at a really nice restaurant and was talking about aguachiles. The waitress at that restaurant overheard me and recommended this truck. But I also saw that this truck had really good tacos so I wanted to try everything on my visit. I ended up getting one of the combos which isn't cheap but seafood rarely is. I got the aguachile negro, a fish al pastor taco, and a soft shell crab taco. She wasn't kidding - the aguachile was fantastic although I will have to go mild next time. The tacos had really great flavors and textures. A truly wonderful meal. I would say this place is a hidden gem but honestly, it's front and center in a very busy part of a very busy area. The Al pastor fish was surprising as it was salmon, not a fish I'd consider for smoking but it was yummy. The soft shell crab taco was okay. I think folks are getting carried away with the novelty of it. Soft shell crab is one of my fave delicacies and this was okay. The bitterness/oily were overpowering. The ceviche mixto was refreshing and delicious. The aguachile was overwhelmingly spicy to the point it drowned out any nuance of flavor. It had our lips looking like we had filler. I ended up scooping the shrimp out into the juice of the ceviche mixto so we wouldn't toss it out. I like heat but it has to have flavor too. 3 sodas and 3 waters, totals was ~ $111. There was no one in line when we got there around 12:30 and only one person came after us while we ate. The freshness of the seafood is top notch but the location seems silly and the prices seem bloated considering little overhead. Cousins Francisco Aguilar and Alexis Chacon relocated from Oaxaca to open this mobile mariscos operation. But Simon's seafood-forward menu is innovative and sophisticated, seemingly more at home in a sit-downery than a mobile food cart. Unsurprisingly, Simon has been lauded by news outlets and food critics abound. I've been dying to try Simon, but the limited and often unpredictable hours have kept me from it for months. My partner and I visited for a late weekend lunch and ordered immediately. We opted for 2 tacos (the Soft Shelled Crab and the Baja-style Fish) and a Large Aguachile Negro, and our made-to-order meal was prepared within a few minutes. Between the tacos, the crab was a clear winner. The crispy, whole crab was well-complemented by the fresh pineapple salsa and the rich chipotle crema. In stark contrast, the Baja-style fried fish was one-dimensional in flavor and ran on the soggy side, owing to the watery pickled cabbage slaw. But not even the crab taco could compete with the stellar aguachile. We couldn't get enough of the marinade's rich blend of acidity and smokiness, which overshadowed even the generous helping of fresh shrimp. Simon's complimentary salsa lineup also exceeded expectations. We most enjoyed the earthy salsa macha and the smooth, creamy salsa verde, but the tangy salsa Simon -- the truck's take on taco sauce -- was no slouch, either. Our bill totaled just over $30, and the meal felt reasonably priced and appropriately filling. Been clamoring to come to Simōn ever since I read about them in the L.A. Times. Finally got the opportunity to do so over the weekend. It did not disappoint! What really caught my eye was that Simōn is unlike any other taco truck, as it has very exotic seafood taco concoctions. Since it was my first time, had to get as much as possible. Got five tacos fish al pastor, Baja-style fish, soft shell crab, shrimp & pork, and enchilada suiza. Fish al pastor was the one that intrigued me the most as I had never seen that before. Had that nice sweet, pineapple marinade flavor that I would have expected from regular al pastor. Baja-style crab was a solid fried fish taco. Soft shell crab was a whole soft shell crab, which kinda surprised me. But it perfectly fried and worked well as a taco. Shrimp and pork was alright, but it still tasty. The one that really surprised me was the enchilada suiza, as it's effectively shrimp and avocado taco layered with melted cheese. That one was quite delicious! Staff here were really friendly, no complaints from me. Having come around 2:30 pm, there was no line to speak of. Probably got lucky on that front, as there were several people that ordered after we did. Since everything was being made fresh and there were a few people that had ordered before us, it took us 25 minutes to get our food. I don't mind waiting because it was fresh out of the kitchen and piping hot! Parking can be a bit of a challenge at it is in front of a market with a small parking lot. Ended up having to park on the nearby street. However, the market is helpful though as they have seats outside where you can sit to eat. Simon has some of the tastiest fish tacos I've had in LA. Their al pastor fish taco has great flavor and good texture with a bit of char on top that accompanied by some tasty more acidic fixins, making for a delicious bite. Sadly they were out of the fried crab tacos (seems like a common occurance so get here earlier in day if possible), but the shrimp tacos were awesome as well, flavored with some good slightly sweet sauce. Very good seafood tacos and aguachiles. The soft shell crab taco is unique and a must try. A whole fried crab on a handmade taco. Delicious. I have no complaints about any of their food. You really can't go wrong with any of their tacos or aguachiles (though the fried fish taco is probably their weakest). Their salsas are also delicious. My favorite is the carrot habanero. It's self serve, so make sure to fill a little takeaway cup with each one and try them all. I deduct one star for two reasons: 1) the AWFUL location - parking is near impossible and I hate this part of LA...Hipsters abound here in their natural habitat. I typically have someone drop me off and circle the block while I ordered and wait to pick up, since there is virtually no parking at any time of day during their operating hours. 2) for a food truck, these are pricey tacos. $8.50 for one taco, even though it tastes delicious, is somewhat ridiculous since we are dealing with very low overhead/operating costs for a food truck compared to a brick and mortar restaurant. And I don't understand why there is a "service charge" tacked onto the bill. What service? I stood in line outside a truck parked alongside the curb, ordered on a kiosk, then waited for my order to be called out. The service fee is disingenuous. I've eaten here twice. I am not opposed to going back again, but don't see it as a must repeat since there are so many good tacos in LA without the parking hassle and the high cost per taco/dishonest fees. read more

Luckily I was hungry and craving seafood which is their specialty. They serve creative tacos such as pescado Al pastor. The quality of the hand made tortilla and homemade salsas easily earned them my top rating. They do not have seating available, however, there is some green space with benches where you can enjoy the tacos. Food: I tried the pescado Al pastor which is a spin on pork tacos Al pastor. The portion size was great and it came with a slice of roasted pineapple which complimented the taco nicely. This was my favorite taco and I would easily come back to order more. Secondly, I ordered the shrimp and pork taco which is a spin on a deconstructed camarrones a La momia. The taco was also very well balanced and had a nice texture. I've had Simon's tasty tacos and agua chile when they were in Silverlake. News is they're now in Highland Park so I went on a Tuesday night, 30 minutes before closing. The truck was there but gate was locked and truck was evidently closed. I passed by again on a Thursday and once again, same story. I'm giving 3 stars for the food that I sooo dream of and minus 2 stars for the lack of attentiveness and consideration for their patrons who make the drive to support them, only for them not to be there. My favorite new seafood taco place! Tried the baja fish, pastor fish, enchilada suiza, soft shell crab, and carne asada. I loved all of them but the least favorite was the carne asada. I definietly recommend sticking to the seafood tacos. The salsa bar is the cherry on top here. They have a variety of about 8 different salsas. They were all delicious but there was one made with roasted peanuts that really stood out to me. The day i went the tacos were $4.50 each with the soft shell crab one being a little more expensive. It might seem a bit pricey for food truck tacos but the quality, flavors and originality are definitely worth the price. I need to come back with more people so i can try more things! read more

One of the best fish tacos I have ever had! This is a food truck, and we were lucky enough to be at Eagle rock brewery and they were there on a Sunday. The food can be a little pricey but it has to do with quality. The ceviche was so amazing that I ended up ordering a second ceviche because I didn't want to share! I really wanted a fish and shrimp mix but the mixed ceviche had octopus but they were kind enough to create one for me without it and it was amazing! Let's head to Simón and grab some tacos, and actually remember to take some photos this time. 6 months ago, we stumbled on Simón after doing some shopping at the adjacent Farmer's Market, and have been meaning to return. We walked right up to the window at 2pm and ordered the Fish Al Pastor Taco, the Soft Shell Crab Taco, and the Octopus Taco. I opted for the Steak Quesadilla this time around as well, both because I was in the mood and because I couldn't find a picture of it on Yelp. The cousins who run the truck are as jovial as they are efficient, as hospitable as they are talented. All that's missing is a place to sit while you eat (and Topo Chico to drink - but you can grab a bottle at Yummy.com while your food is being made) They are doing something special here, and if they launch a Brick & Mortar space within 50 miles, I'll make it a point to visit, so I can bring friends to sit and share this beautiful food with. Prices have increased since our last visit (not complaining - everything else has gone up too), but the $4 tacos we had in April are now $5.25 Still absolutely worth the price, especially considering you get access to their fantastic, ever-evolving shelf of refrigerated salsas with taco pairing suggestions written right on the jar if you need some guidance. TIP: on your first visit, make use of the 1oz containers and grab a bit of each salsa, so you can mix and match different bites, and pare down your list of favorite salsas for your next visit. The Carrot Habañero is still the winner for me - I'd put it on anything and everything. I'd clear out space in my fridge if they'd allow me to purchase some to take home. I'd swim in it. The food truck is parked out in front of the grocery store and we easily found street parking around the corner. We arrived near closing time but they gladly welcomed our order. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the soft shell crab taco, but we were excited to try their other types as well. I hope the "one star" gets somebody's attention, although it would seem that neither the manager or the owner bothers to read these reviews. When you guys were in Silver Lake the truck wasn't there when we tried to eat there 3 times out of 5, even when your site said you were open. We blamed it on the traffic in Silver Lake and were certain we'd have better luck with your new spot. We were pretty excited today to visit your new York Blvd location, and drove for half an hour to get there. Got off the freeway and what do we see at a gas station, at 12:15??? That's right, your truck!! Your hours say you open at noon, clearly it would have been at least 1 before the truck made it to the spot and you were actually serving food. Fortunately, knowing how often you aren't open when you are supposed to be, we had a back up plan and continued down York to have a nice lunch at Mala Class, who WAS open! An hour later, after lunch, we drove back by the spot where the truck should have been, and guess what, still not there! So, an hour and a half after your scheduled opening time, you weren't there, and didn't bother to post anything about it on your site. How many others drove there and were disappointed? Hard to say. But a lot of them won't be back. It would seem that you have absolutely no respect for your customers, and with that attitude you won't be here long, no matter how good your food is, and it IS good. Too bad. Just making good food doesn't cut it, you actually have to run the business as well, and somebody has dropped the ball. Doubt if I will get an apology, most business owners would take the time to respond to something like this, but you didn't before, and I doubt you will this time. Picked up V from school and we had some time to grab a snack before therapy at 5 in Los Feliz. Silverlake is right next door so why not? Found street parking in front of the 99 on Sunset easily. Almost missed it because there were a lot of spaces so that was a plus. Headed across the street to the truck. No line at 4 pm. The kid and I have a party to go to after therapy so we opted for the large ceviche mixto ($19) and the shrimp and pork taco ($5.25). They were out of a lot, however I'm gluten free so the ceviche was a no brainer because I'm good without the crackers (they gave us a lot). This ceviche had a sweet liquid flavor with large chunks of shrimp, avocado and octopus. Almost every bite had a chunk of shrimp or avocado or cilantro, which my kid isn't a fan of, but for him easy enough to avoid because it was so large (avoidable). Too bad I was taking the kid to therapy and I didn't have vodka or tequila on me because when all the chunks were done- the liquid would mix well! Really great new mariscos spot in Silver Lake. The seafood is clearly of high quality and is executed with an attention to detail that belies its humble food truck location. We enjoyed everything we ordered, with the standouts being the shrimp quesadilla, mixed cocktail, and verde aguachile.
