I had to come back and update my review just based on the service I experienced at my most recent visit. The staff could not have been nicer. So friendly, engaging and made sure we had everything we needed when we needed it. For a fast casual spot, the customer service definitely takes it a step above the rest. I got my usual Kale salad with some modifications for my current diet and it was still so good. I thought I would miss the cheese, but the chicken is just so delicious and packs so much flavor I wasn't even mad about not having it. My son got the quesadilla and he enjoyed it of course. What's not to like? Ingredients are always super fresh and taste top quality. Their patio is actually really well heated on chilly nights. Mixto is a unique little hole-in-the-wall spot with an interesting layout. They really utilize the space well, though it's a bit surprising to have cars driving by so close while you eat which makes for a somewhat noisy experience. I ordered the carne asada bowl and asked for the dressing on the side, but it came with the dressing already on it. Not a huge deal, but it's always a bit disappointing when requests aren't followed. The bowl itself was decent, but for $18, I expected a little bit more. The portion size felt on the small side compared to what you typically get for that price in similar places. The flavors were just okay in my opinion too. A decent place to come if you want something quick and easy but I might opt for other places before coming back. read more

We've been ordering from Mixto on DoorDash for a while. My wife enjoys their Mixto Bowls, which normally come with steak. We noticed there's a version with chicken that costs the same, so we asked to swap the steak for chicken in two bowls. The issue is that the chicken version has rice and the steak version has kale. Rather than paying the $3.70 to add chicken in addition to the steak, we figured it was a simple, even exchange and submitted the request. Instead, we received a message from DoorDash saying the substitution would cost $16 -- which felt excessive and confusing, especially since both bowls are priced the same on the menu. We contacted Door Dash and they could it substantiate the charge. But they wouldn't do anything about it. Watch this store very closely on the billing. read more

I got a vegan burrito with the peach habanero salsa - it's on the smaller side but it is indeed healthy. My friend for some tacos along with a side of corn. Who knew this unassuming little spot had brisket and didn't tell me?? For years I sort of ignored it as one of many taco stands in the area. I finally tried it the other day and was astounded at the menu. I thought Homestate was the only game in town for brisket tacos! Now we've got another excellent option. The brisket quesadilla is the banger--it's set up like two soft tacos lined with cheese and filled with brisket. The salads are great, as is the salsa selection. I'm not a huge salsa user...but the mango habanero salsa is amazing. Sure it's a bit pricier than other places, but the food quality is through the roof. The portions are also really good. Great spot for fresh, organic and healthy food. Parking is available in the back, but it's usually a bit busy, expect a 5-10 minute wait during peak hours. Totally worth it though! DELICIOUS!!!! Cute, little, walk up to order Restaurant with wonderful Mexican food! Ordered the special of the day, chicken Stew on cilantro rice with avocado and plantains and half a Mixto salad. This used to be one of my favorite spot for years, but unfortunately due to order errors and some changes on the menu this just lands at mediocre for me. I used to LOVE the soyrizo here, it was tasty with so much flavor. The new veggie rizo just isn't good, and definitely doesn't pass for chorizo at all. I used to also love the veggie bowl here, but sadly it's so short on veggies now I don't get it. (Strike 2) On the topic of order errors... Today I thought "let's give Mixto one more time, it's a 5 minute walk from my house." Walked over, ordered the Chicken bowl and asked to sub the rice for cabbage. "Sure, no problem." One of my favorite places. If you go out of town to a place where there isn't many fresh veggies, do yourself a favor and order the kale caesar with whatever accouterments you like once you come back. It will put your blood right. The seco de pollo ... is out of this world. I can't recommend it highly enough and it's only 12! The portion is superb for that, and it also makes you feel so much better if you have a little cold or are just plain hungry. The green tomatillo sauce is also exquisite. Just to clarify some things... I only got delivery from here... So I don't know what it looks like inside as I never went there. So my review will only cover the food. :) Let me start with the bad and end with the good. I got a few items to try just to get a better grasp of the food. The first item is the Mixto Burrito which was the first thing on their menu. It was made with 4 eggs, avocados, their green salsa and some cheese. It was decent. Not mind blowing but decent. The tortilla was a little soggy but that could've been the delivery or that the tortilla was whole wheat. The flavor was decent but it was a little mushy as everything inside was soft. (3.5/5) I also got the cheese quesadilla and it was decent as well. I just wished it had more cheese in it but it was the cheapest item on their menu except for the sides and drinks. So I guess shouldn't have expected so much... But I'm used to having more cheese in my quesadillas. (3.5/5) I also got their plantains and that was yummy!! I mean it's plantains and if they had messed this up... I would've been really really disappointed. (5/5) Their chips and salsa was ok as well. The chips were good and crispy. The salsa on the other hand was missing some salt and acid. I'm talking about the Cilantro Cream in this case as that is what I ordered. (3/5) Now my most favorite thing of all was the cucumber Mint Lemonade... OMG!!! It was so yummy!! You could taste the cucumber... The mint and the lemonade!!! I hate aqua frescas when it's just sugar water. And this one was definitely not sugar water. It was so well balanced and so freaking delicious!! I accidentally ordered 2 of these drinks and can I say that it was kismet that made me order 2 of these drinks as I had a rough tough day and this drink totally made my day!! Probably some of the best quality food in Silverlake potentially.
