Ordered my daughters sweet 16 cake. The cake its self looked beautiful & they delivered on time. That's the only good thing I can say. The fondant was so thick & hard we could barely cut it. The inside of the cake was dry. No one liked the cake & threw it away. $300 went to the trash. I paid an extra $10 for a cake topper that turned out to be fondant on a stick. The owner reached out to me and asked what was I expecting for a cake topper. Definitely not fondant on a stick. I had my wedding July 2013, and the wedding cake from Sin was a huge disappointment. when i arrived at the venue my planner told me that Sin brought in the cake and didn't want to put the topper, and instead asked the venue staff to put it just before the cutting. The staff didn't really want to take responsibility and the fact that the cake specialist from Sin didn't want to do it in the first place was not assuring. The cake i picked was pretty traditional and simple and the topper was essential for completing the look. it was really hard for me to find a decent picture of the cake to include in my wedding album. I was really upset and send Sin an email when i was on my honeymoon to ask what had happened. They blamed it on the weather (even though the wedding was indoors) and on the topper size. It is true it is hot in July (its no secret!), as for the topper i had brought it to the design session and made sure they saw it to match the color. The topper was a beautiful Lenox bride and groom that i have purchased for more than $100.00. I also offered to leave the topper there or drop it at the store the day before they said NO. If the weather is hot why not put more support in the cake for the topper that you have seen months before the wedding? OR why not call me the day before to discuss it and maybe change the design a little to make it work?? YES, a wedding cake in a wedding is that important. why ask the venue staff to do your work for you. I paid Sin money to take the cake to the venue and set it up?? I had ~ 20 vendors in that wedding, Sin was the only disappointment i had. read more

We have heard rave things about Sin so decided to stop in for a chai latte & a couple treats. We got the cinnamon bun which was hard to chew through and the flavor just wasn't right. The GF cupcake was hard as a brick and the frosting was the only edible part of it and decent. Chai latte tasted like water with a little milk and chai. Sad to say we won't be back. I wanted to like it because I love the idea of the fun cocktails and treats, but it was lacking. read more

Went in on a Saturday 9/22 evening for my oldest sisters Birthday (58yrs) Service was disappointingly questionable. We ordered 4 deserts and cocktail pairings. About 20 minutes later asked about our order and was met with a I had to go get ingredients so it will be a few more minutes and snide remarks as I walked away. They did not deliver the order to the table we had to go get them. The deserts were great the drink pairings were awful!!! Come to find out one drink was not even correct to the dessert. I spoke to the Bartender/Director person that was there (as I checked out) that made the drinks and expressed how we were not able to drink two of them. She listened then stated we walked in with a little attitude and if we told her sooner she would have fixed them. My jaw must have dropped to the ground...I very politely stated I did not know where she was coming from...I was offering construction feedback as I think the concept is cool. My youngest sister who lives in Providence was so excited to take us to Sin as we are from Texas. She offered to take care of my sister if she comes back in....That is not what I was looking for!!!! This is a service business...I regrettably paid a $90 tab. It was the worst experience on our entire trip in Providence. This place needs to address dealing with Customers and the director-bartender person needs Customer Service management training immediately. read more

So my friend and I both bought a couple of desserts each here today and were casually sitting and eating in the venue for an Easter snack. We were there for 20 minutes at least. A 5'8"ish Caucasian guy who has a deep widow's peak and blondish/redish hair with a full short beard was near our table cleaning up. They didn't know, but I already have access to the WiFi (ive been a customer for a over a year) and was on it searching for something. However my African male friend was also using his phone but he wasn't on WiFi. This is his second time here. I brought him here for his first time on pi day. I didn't remember the password and I forgot where it was placed in the store. I said "excuse me" and kindly asked him for the password. He hesitated due to not remembering the password himself, called on the Caucasian brunette 5'5"ish girl with a messy updo inside the bar and asked her for the password. She immediately looked up at us and then quickly said "uh the WiFi isn't on" then he repeated that lie to us. How is their WiFi off yet IVE BEEN ACTIVELY CONNECTED FOR 20 MINUTES TO THEIR WIFI and there's two Caucasian males at two separate tables near me and they're both on their macbooks. I look behind me at one guy's because our chairs are back-to-back and he's on their WiFi. Yet she took the time to look at us FIRST and told us the wifi is off. Yet I am on it!! So I said okay. Then I purposely opened up several apps on my phone and saw it actively working and refreshing my page. Once I realized she purposely didnt want us to have it, I no longer felt comfortable and we both got up and prepared to leave. As we got up we both saw where the wifi password was... he took the password and got right into their WiFi as I was cleaning up my plate. Yet she said the wifi was off LOL... so all of this could've easily been avoided if all she said was "it's right there." So this female thought it was BETTER customer service to LIE. I really don't want to make it a race thing, but when you're the only one who is dark complexion and you get looked/analyzed before getting a response (more like a lie) it really makes you think. If she was attempting to say the "truth" she didn't even have to waste her time lifting her head to look at us first. And what's also crazy is the original gentlemen didn't even know where the password was either?! Smh. The sad thing is that we both had amazing service from our cashier (probably one of the best there) and we both separately tipped. Yet because of being segregated to not have wifi (compared to our counterparts in the store) every ounce of the cashier's kindness was forgotten. I'm so enraged that I wanted to ask for my tip/money back. Lesson learned: now I'll tip after I leave the vicinity just in case if i/my company gets treated differently from others AFTER I pay for my food. I've been living in this neighborhood for 30 yrs and it is frustrating to know that I can/will be treated by someone differently within, essentially, "my own back yard." Never write reviews but this one is well deserved. I needed a custom cake for my Wife's 30th Bday party and my usual go-to wasn't available. I had heard of Sin and after some searching decided to go with them. All I had was a general theme and a mash-up of pix from google images so I was a little worried. The price point was also a little lower than what I expected for a such a detailed custom job. I also had to worry about picking up the cake, along with it's 3d fondant topper, on Saturday and storing it overnight then having it transported to CT for the party Sunday afternoon. As it turns out all the worrying was for nothing- the cake was absolutely perfect and blew away any expectations that I had. It made the trip fine and even lasted throughout the whole outdoor party on Sunday. My wife took the topper off and saved it! The cake got all the attention for it's looks and then even more for the taste. We went with a mix of marble for the cake and champagne and chocolate bourbon for the cupcakes. Every flavor was great and the guests couldn't get enough! Needless to say I will be returning to Sin for all my custom needs and will be recommending them to anyone who asks! My wedding cake from Sin Bakery came out terribly! My wedding was in Newport, RI a few weeks ago. I was so picky about finding a bakery because I bake cakes myself so I know what a good, quality cake tastes like. I did quite a few cake tastings with different bakeries before deciding on Sin Bakery. I decided on the strawberry cake with champagne buttercream. I worked with the staff at Sin Bakery to come up with the perfect design. I was very specific about what I wanted. I sent emails with pictures and even mailed in color swatches. I did this so there would be no confusion when it came to make my wedding cake. The day of the wedding, when I came out on the dance floor at the reception after me and my husband were announced, I did a double take when I saw my wedding cake. It was horrible!!! It was lopsided, the fondant wasn't rolled on properly and was lumpy, and the design looked nothing like the pictures or what I discussed with the staff. I was pissed! My guests asked me what happened to our cake. People were laughing.. It looked like it would topple over at any minute. I didn't get a call or email apology or anything until I emailed them the next morning with my complaint. They knew they dropped off a crooked, amateur cake at my wedding. They should've emailed me that night. The owner, Jennifer, was on vacation the week of my wedding, but I am surprised that the business cannot run without her and she would trust her staff with something as precious as a bride and groom's wedding cake if she knew they couldn't handle it. The cake itself was tasteless, undercooked, and mushy. Nothing like it was at the tasting. Jennifer reimbursed me about 30% of the cost of the cake and apologized, but I still don't feel like that was enough. I cannot stress how terrible the cake looked and I will send pictures to any bride that wants to see it for herself. Don't make the same mistake that I did! read more

In May we had ordered a birthday cake in the shape of an Awful Awful. Picked up the very expensive cake and it fell apart at the base on the way home. It looked like the leaning tower of Awful Awful. Made pictures, sent it to them. They did refund us our money right away. However...customer service at the office is terrible. The lady up front has zero personality or humor. The cake itself is terrible and it tasted like a cake from a super market or out of a box. No flavor, tasteless.Just terrible. We love Pastiche on Federal Hill now they know how to make cakes! I don't know how such a bad bakery can win Rhode Island awards , they must vote for themselves. Don't waste your money. We had contacted and put our damaged cake pictures on their FB page and they wrote us back not to put it on FB..I also wanted to add that they put the cake in a regular cake box..how crazy is that? Everyone know the shape of an Awful Awful, so it must be transported in a better container. The cake was very heavy and the flimsy regular cake box was not made for such a cake. I was really surprised as most of the cake was standing out of the cake box. Its not wonder the thing fell apart on the base. My husband held it on the short trip home and constantly had to balance the box with the cake. All in all a very unpleasant experience. read more

Came in for cupcakes. The chocolate bourbon with mint frosting was lovely. The vanilla Heath bar was inedible. They must have forgotten to put sugar in the batter, it tasted like bread with frosting on it. The woman working the counter immediately gave me another one for free. I found the cake on the vanilla chocolate chip to be a bit dry and dense. The cakes in the display case look gorgeous, though. I think I probably came in at the end of the day and got the last ones, which is probably why they are so dry. read more

I am writing a review because I was not happy with the cake I ordered. The cake was very dry and I was embarrased at a party, I bought the cake as a gift for a baby shower, everyone was throwing the cake away, when I asked what was wrong it became a joke, they said it tasted like bread! I was horrified and I tasted it and it was very dry. I apologized a million times and when I left the party I called the bakery and told them how I felt and what happened. They were not helpful and did not try to compensate me in any way. The cake was not cheap and as a buisness owner myself, I would have tried to make things better in some way. read more

I purchased the cake for my niece as her wedding gift. She had given Sin all the details needed. There was a drawing done at that time by the owner of what the cake should have looked like. They even had a picture of what it could resemble. I was so disappointed when I walked into the venue and saw what they had made. The icing color was no where near to what it should have been. The cake topper was not put on by them, claimed they could not fine it. All boxes were marked. When my niece walked into the venue and saw the cake she didn't even want to cut it. But here's the best part, they covered the base (on which the cake was placed) w/ aluminum foil. What bakery covers a base w/ foil? Could you have used something better, Sin? Sin felt they did no wrong. I contacted them by email and never received a response. They did email my niece, but I'm the one who paid. read more

HORRIBLE MANAGER & CUSTOMER SERVICE! I have yet to even set foot in Sin, despite hearing formerly good reviews, which dated back to a previous manager. As a bride to be, my fiancé and I were excited to schedule our cake tasting with Sin. They schedule our tasting, but got the dates wrong not once, but twice, calling to tell us we had missed our tasting, and then did not have us in the books for our (second) rescheduled tasting. The girl on the phone was so rude to me, I asked to speak with the manager, and she informed me, she was the manager!! She told me "I'm not going to sit here and apologize because I cannot apologize to you enough" when she NEVER apologized for the mix up in the first place! This girl didn't even make any sense! Additionally, she blamed the mistakes on her co-worker! To really put the frosting on the cake, pun intended, Tiffany, the supposed new manager said "well if you don't trust that we aren't organized, then just don't have us make your cake." !!!!! The lack of professionalism, customer service, and organization with this new Sin management is absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't get my wedding cake made by them if someone paid me!!!!! BRIDES AND CUSTOMERS BEWARE! Having a wedding cake tasting should be a special experience! DONT have your happy life experience tainted by a lousy, unprofessional and flippant "manager!" read more
