I came to the Seekonk location to get my zeppole fix and they did not disappoint! All the staff were friendly even though the place was pretty packed! Oh my !! What a find! This is a gem of a place! It's in a neighborhood area. If it wasn't for a friend mentioning she got her pizza strips there I would have never found it! Now This Is A Bakery! We discovered Scialo's Country Bakery quite by accident while waiting for a seafood order next door. What a find! Independent, small business bakeries are few and far between these days, and while we were not looking for any pastries, desserts, or breads, we were thrilled with what we'd stumbled upon. The store was clean and orderly, with the display cases sufficiently filled with delectable looking treats, all nicely presented. We chose a lemon filled muffin, a raspberry bar, and a cherry covered cheesecake. All were absolutely delicious, and thankfully not overly sweet. Since our initial visit, we're enjoyed a Boston Cream doughnut, a blueberry turnover, a lemon bar, and a Zeppole, all of which were excellent. Again, not too sweet and with just the right of filling, perfectly prepared. In my opinion, their whole grain bread is excellent. In this day and age when stand-alone bakeries are rare, and the public either has to buy cheap, mass produced baked items at a chain grocery store, or to, heaven forbid, bake for ourselves, it's a blessing to have such a local, professional business to call upon. God knows we cannot come close to preparing such delicacies. We will be back . . . again and again. read more

Scialo's started out as the most convenient bakery near me but has since turned into the only place where I'll go to buy bread. After having their fantastic old world & Tuscan style loaves I just can't go back to grocery store bread. I found it to be very reasonably priced & well sized. The staff is there to help & happy to answer any questions you have or give any suggestions especially if the reason you went has been sold out they have given excellent alternatives. They offer other things as well like coffee (although I would not personally recommend the coffee) & pizza/calzones (I would recommend). Inside is nice as it lays out all the offerings for the day but can quickly become chaotic if it is busy. read more

My family and I have been coming here for 20+ years and I can't believe that I haven't shared a review before today. Always a good experience. Have had some great birthday cakes. Everyone always comments on how good they are. Especially how moist and flavorful the actual cake is. I love how they personalize every part of it. You choose it. I made the vanilla and chocolate lovers happy with 2 different layers. Choice of frostings, even whipped cream. Also have had some fun designs made. Always nice and very accommodating staff. It's become my go to for cakes, especially now that my family always wants me to get it there! Yum. I want Scialo's near my city. Now. Immediately. I like small hole-in-the-wall type places. There's a lot of character in them. Scialo's did not disappoint. Although I went late in the day, long after the best goodies were likely long gone, I did manage to pick up a brownie and a chocolate cupcake with a cream filling and a coconut-marshallow-like frosting that tasted exactly like those pre-packaged sno-ball cakes from ages ago. I was expecting passable for both treats, but ended up with a taste-bud trip down memory lane. I could tell from the empty trays in the cases, Scialo's started the day with a full inventory. Unfortunately, my plan to return the next morning was interrupted with other commitments, so I have no idea if this is normal. The lady behind the counter seemed disappointed I wasn't getting a dozen of something, and after having eaten the cake the next day, I was disappointed I hadn't picked up more, too. On Memorial Day, I was in charge for the desserts for my friends bbq but i forgot that a lot of business were closed on the holiday. I called so many places and no one answered. However I lucked out and spoke to Bob who was more than accommodating! He let me know that he is technically closed but can stop by his location to pick up a couple key lime pies. Total lifesaver! He was very welcoming and super friendly - Im very big on customer service and Bob the baker was awesome! The key lime pie was magnificent! A few more visits, and I can bump them up to 5 stars. Muffins are delicious! Peach, Triple Berry, Coffee Cake and Blueberry. The only disappointment was the Lemon. Moist and filled with a lemon creme/curd. A little sweet for my taste, and more cupcake than muffin. This morning while ordering an Apple Cider Donut (amazing!) and thinking about the lunch I had left behind in my fridge, I noticed the large case of calzone that I had been walking by. Taking a big $3.99 chance, I grabbed a pepperoni to go. Ten minutes in the toaster oven and the smell had my co-workers salivating. It was stuffed with pepperoni and just enough cheese to glue it all together. I think I'm going to stock up and try some other fillings. An inexpensive and satisfying meal! Great place for a morning coffee and a sweet treat to go. The bakery offers regular along with two daily "flavored brew" coffees (from the New England Coffee Company). In addition, they make make a fresh blueberry pocket, and great plain yeast doughnuts which are topped with a light chocolate or vanilla frosting. (sometime maple frosting is a seasonal option in the winter). Because the business is in a quiet residential neighborhood plaza there is never a long wait.. Despite the current inflation the bakery has only raised their price by 25 to 50 cents the last year and not across the board but on individual products as needed. The prices on the above products are very completive with the major chains in the area. The only two draw back are there is no drive up window but you'r in and out quickly and you get to know the pleasant long term staff. Second, while there is no additional charge to use a credit card but there is a $5.00 minimum. read more

Scialo's County Bakery is your classic italian bakery. Located around the corner from my parent's house, this bakery has been a family favorite for over 25 years. I am not really sure how long they've been around...I can only speak to the last 1/4 century. I can tell you that not much has changed in this place during that time...even the ladies behind the counter are the same. The assistance is polite, but all business. They are usually busy and they really don't want to wait while you decide between an eccles cake or an eclair. There are some tough choices in that brightly lit case. Your best bet is to get a big box of them and try more than just one. You can get loaves of bread and rolls out of the bin behind the counter. They will slice loaves to order for you if you would like the slices for sandwiches or ready for toasting. My favorite picks: Tuscany loaf - oval shaped bread with a slightly chewy yet crunchy crust with an unbelievably moist and tender bread inside. (Think sour dough without the sour) The bakery pizza WITH cheese - the sauce is tasty and the cheese adds just the right amount of flavor to balance the thick-ish crust. It is a must for any trip to the beach in the summer - we go for the whole box (ordered ahead of time). White on white cake - white birthday cake, white buttercream frosting. Hermits - soft molasses squares (cut from the bar cookie form) that are loaded with raisins that are perfect with a cup of tea - or my morning coffee...or out of the bag as I pull out of the parking lot. It is located in a neighborhood strip mall that could use a few updates. But - the bakery is spotless. Only downside is they close early on Sundays. I have to plan my cravings accordingly. . Definitely worth the short five minute detour off of Route 6 to get some classic bakery love. read more

My wife and I ordered two cakes for a once in a lifetime 50th anniversary party for her parents. The event had been months in the planning and a lot of work went into making the day very memorable and special. The bakery was given and had agreed upon specific instructions for the two cakes desired. We had paid extra for certain items as well. Imagine our surprise when serving the cakes it was realized we DID NOT get what was ordered and agreed upon. The 60+ in attendance were also told about the cakes prior by my wife as she was very excited to serve them. Of course the next day the bakery was called and told of their error. No restitution or otherwise was offered. Is this great customer service? This is out go-to spot for boxes of pizza strips when we have a party. The sauce is really tasty and we always order it heavy on the sauce. This is key. Sometimes there is barely any sauce and the strips just aren't that good without it. My husband and I prefer the sauce only strips, but for family parties we often get it with sauce, cheese and linguica because that is what the family prefers. The calzones aren't bad and I've picked them up before for a quick lunch. I've bought a few cakes here before and although they didn't knock my socks off they were OK. Ordered a sauce only pizza days in advance for my daughter with egg and dairy allergies for a party which was explained on the phone. Upon opening the box at home I was surprised to see they topped the entire pizza heavily with green seasoning, rosemary and others? It looked like someone spilled a bottle all over it. I don't know anyone that would enjoy that much spice, never mind a child. Of course when I tried to call their phone was not answering; I drove all the way back to be told, "well that's how we do our vegan pizza". No apology and an hour wait if I wanted another one made. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile, thanks to other online reviews, and I was in the general area yesterday and decided to try to find it. Its located in a very outdated strip mall, and the sign was so small I almost missed it, but it was worth going a few minutes out of my way for. The variety was unbelievable, It was 3 on a Friday afternoon and they were still pretty well stocked, the cake case in the middle of the floor was a beautiful temptation as well. They have everything you could possibly want, and more. All the usual muffins and pastries, cupcakes, delicious éclairs (yes, that was one of my choices!) packages of cookies and biscotti as well as pizza dough, which I didn't notice until I was on my way out, or I would have bought some of that as well! They also have calzones, and ever since I left, I've been wishing I'd picked up 2 different kinds to try.. but that just gives me another reason to go back there! On this trip, I got a variety of items, a mini éclair (when will I learn to buy the full size?!), a peanut butter square with chocolate frosting, and a lemon filled cupcake since it was recommended in another review. The éclair was awesome, I tried the peanut butter square later on that night and while it was good, it wasn't spectacular and something I could make myself and today I tried the lemon filled cupcake and it was good, but a little on the dry side, but I do think that if I'd eaten it on the day I'd purchased it, that it would have been just fine. Customer service was excellent as well, there were a few other people in there and one of the girls came up to me right away and I asked for a little time to decide since I'd never been there, it worked out perfect because once everyone else was waited on, I'd browsed all of the cases and decided what I wanted. The girl who waited on me was very nice and polite and my other reason for going back (first reason is to try the calzones!)
