I first found this store because my Singer sewing machine needed a tune up. The price for a tune up was a little shocking, but after some checking I think it's fair, something like $74, which should be done annually, or bi-annually depending on usage. When my old machine needed almost as much in repairs as a new one I purchased a new one cheaper than anything I found online. But the real gem here is the staff and the sewing lessons. If you buy a new machine they will give you an hour get-acquainted lesson on your machine and then additional sessions as you need them. They also offer sewing lessons, the best and most reasonably priced I've ever heard of. They offer 6 2-hour lessons for $60. That's $5 an hour and the lessons are pretty much semi-private. Nancy, the teacher is quirky but trained in design and will teach you the old fashioned way to do it yourself on patterns and techniques. If you are an absolute beginner sewer she will teach you how to use a machine and how to pick patterns and measure and cut and sew. If you have some experience she will take you from there. The first pattern is one of her suggestion, but after that you choose your project, from clothing to home decor, she will help you when you get stuck and teach you how to do it. If you take more sessions you just keep bringing your projects in and she will help you as you go along. One of the most valuable things she teaches is how to customize and tailor clothes for your body type. I am on my second set of lessons and want to go back for more! Compared to lessons at other places, I will not name, this is absolutely the best value and the best for continuing education. Fantastic repair and customer service. I recently purchased a 1951 Singer Model 66 sewing machine. I wasn't sure about the safety of the wiring and although the motor ran and the fabric fed through the machine, it wouldn't make a stitch. I took it to Singer Factory Distributor to see if it could be fixed. They cleaned and oiled it, rewired it, added a light, and adjusted the tension and feed pressure. I had the machine back a week later (allowing for the New Year holiday) and it's like brand new from the factory! Compared to what I paid to have much less work done on my other sewing machines at another store, this was a real bargain. All of the staff was friendly and the service technician was even nice enough to call me and explain everything that needed to be done. To top if off, they gave me a 6 month warranty for the work done. Who does that? Today you're lucky if you get a 30 day warranty! This store is about a one hour drive from my home, but well worth the trip. I can't say enough good things about this shop. read more

We took our 1980's vintage Singer sewing machine here on a Wednesday for a major problem. The machine was not advancing and made an awful grinding noise. Thursday we were called that technician found a portion of a broken needle in the lower bobbin area. The machine was ready for pickup on Monday. The total for parts $17 with labor and tuneup $90 for a total of $108 with tax. I would highly recommend this shop for Singer and others they support. read more

I took my Riccar 515 in for repair on 9/5. My husband picked it up on 9/13 due to my having to work. I did not open the case until 9/16, and discovered that it was not my machine he brought home. I immediately called the store and was told my machine was somewhere and that it would definitely be found, and not to worry. Mike called me later and told me that my machine was in the store. He brought it to my home that evening and said that the machine that the replacement part was removed from had the part inadvertently put back into the same machine, and not mine by the technician, as the two machines were sitting side by side. He took both machines back with him, had the part put into MY machine, and then personally delivered my Riccar to me @ my home. Would absolutely use and recommend them for service. read more

I had a great experience from the telephone call with a lady to tell them about the model I have, to going there and talking with Tony. Tony looked at the machine, told me about the Singer 920 Futura II and told me don't even think about buying a new one. This was the last model made in America with metal parts. It needs oiling and adjusting. I then told him I hadn't use it in 15 years. Don't worry, Tony said. This is a great model and it will good for another 30 years! I felt secure that he was telling me the truth, and I appreciated his knowledge. He was so happy to see this machine. I was happy because it showed he loved his work. OMG someone in the sewing repair that had knowledge!!!! The place is huge, lots of models if you want to buy, lots of commercial machines. Lots of notions! Tons! A classroom. BAD SERVICE -- WILL PUT YOUR FINANCIAL INFORMATION AT RISK!! After placing a telephone order with this company my package was shipped out with my name, address, complete credit card number and CCV code written out on the receipt. When I called the store to complain the person I spoke to (claimed to be the store manager) did not apologize or give any assurance that this dangerous practice would cease. They offer cheap sewing classes (60 dollars for 6 weeks of 2 hour courses) that are paced to your ability (Nancy is a wonder!), in addition to offering reasonable repairs on classic machines. This is really a great business. I bought my machine there a long time ago and have been very happy with the purchase. I like the way the service guy offered advice when I was re-wiring the estate sale treasure that Her Majesty came home with. She likes their honesty. She took her fancy w/ lots-a buttons electronic machine for service. It's a top-o-the-line machine & one of her few splurges. I know the company makes great chain saws & would expect the sewing machined to be top notch. They charged her for a relay instead of the whole board (how would we even know??). This place is amazing, but it is tricky to find on the Internet unless you type in the full correct address. Otherwise the HARLEM address keeps popping up. The only name in the North Shore Directory is GUNTHER. Because of that I did not know this place existed. The power pedal on my Featherweight malfunctioned even though it was serviced in full by GUNTHER about two years ago for an exorbitant price and unfriendly service (there is no store address; they come to the housel). When I was looking to get into sewing I didn't realize how much I lucked out by finding Singer Factory Distributor! The staff is so nice and accommodating, they truly do care that you understand the machines you purchase from them, and are always helpful on the phone. Elida has taught me so much over this past year about sewing and serging, and she is wonderful to work with. I also had the pleasure of taking classes from Nancy and Arizona, there at the store, and it is all well worth it. Mike is a true gem, and so knowledgeable about the equipment and very personable. They have everything you want to cover for your sewing and serging needs, and even if you are a beginner like I was, they are so nice and their pricing is very fair.
