Our dishwasher stopped working last week, and our landlord had ABS come out today to take a look…read more Mini-background, our building has an issue with the kitchen sinks in the ground floor units backing up every so often, and when this happens, our dishwasher also gets water backed up into it. Usually it will drain itself out when it gets turned on, but last week it stopped working. I called ABS to set up a time this morning, and not only were they able to come out the same day I called, but they were actually on time within the 1-hour window I was given. The technician, Manny V, was super nice and friendly. He quickly deduced that the water back-ups likely were not the culprit and that the problem was probably electrical. He opened up the baseboard under the unit and found the problem- the dishwasher had originally be installed poorly (before we even moved in), and some wiring was in contact with the metal frame, which meant that it had been overheating the wires every time we ran the dishwasher. Eventually, this caused a big short, which just happened to coincide with the latest drain back-up. He took the time to show me exactly what he was looking at, explain exactly what caused it, and what he was going to do to fix it. Once he fixed it, he ran the unit for a bit, and while that was going, he took the time to not only show me how to get the unit to just drain (without running a full cycle), but also explained why we get water in the bottom of the dishwasher when the drains back up. In conclusion- on time, super friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Would highly recommend for any appliance repairs in the Chicago area!

Curtis and his team came over and installed the AC unit fairly quickly. They were very professional and courteous. Fast forward to a few days ago, my kid decided to throw pieces of chalk down the pipes. I called Herchenbach Mechanical to schedule a time and date that works for me. They will email and text you to confirm your appointment. On the day of your appointment, they will also send you a photo of the technician that will be over. Adam, the technician, was very friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and on time. I told him what happened and he explained what he would need to do to get the chalk out from the pipes. I also scheduled them to clean my AC as well. After Adam finished using the hose from the backyard, everything was neatly put back the way it was. He didn't leave anything out or left a mess. When he was inside the house, he would immediately put on those disposable shoe covers without me having to ask. Herchenbach Mechanical has always provided great, friendly service when I needed them. I came home from out of town and my old freezer was leaking all over the kitchen floor. I called my old repairman but his phone was disconnected. So, I read the great reviews here and gave Joel a call after looking at a few others who could not get here for about four days. Joel answered his own phone and said he'd be here in a few hours. He arrived with his son and actually helped me get food out of the freezer and then diagnosed the problem as a broken heater and said that my refrigerator was too old to have the part but he would put in a new part. He explained everything and I was surprised at how reasonable the charge was. That night I was cleaning the freezer and I got water on the underneath portions (my fault and it shorted and turned off). I called Joel and he picked up at 7:30 pm and said not to worry--he would be there the next day (Saturday). I thought it was the end of the refrigerator. He came the next day as promised and fixed it quicky, refusing to take any money even after much arguing (because it was my fault). Very old school with integrity and knows his business. read more

Adams has been helping me for a couple of years now with a fridge that just will not stay functioning the way it should - a true lemon. Mr. Adam has always been friendly, professional, and more than fair with his prices - all reasons why I always call him and refer him to others whenever I have an issue. A few weeks back I had a new issue with my lemon and was unable to contact Adam because he was out of town for a week. Sadly, I couldn't wait so I was forced to call someone else. Long story short, the "fix" the other guy did, did not fix the problem AND was overpriced for what he did do. I ended up calling Adams and he came, heard my story, remembered his multiple dealings with my lemon, fixed my problem in no time (changed a faulty switch) and told me this one was on the house! I have a GE refrigerator that needed service. I was about to use the GE Authorized Service and decided to research Yelp. While I have had issues with Yelp and the way they validate reviews, it worked out this time. I called and spoke with Joel the owner. My plan was to set an appointment a week later on my next days off. He was able to come the same day and fixed the problem. Turns out that GE uses an inferior method of heating the drain on the defroster. He installed an extra heating element wiring it into the defrosting system. I am a total tech geek and understood exactly what he did. Had I used the GE service they would have cleared the drain and left the problem in a state to reoccur. The cost was just $40 dollars over the trip charge the manufacturer wanted to charge before any repairs. I would totally use him again! read more

I am in TOTAL amazement with Joel. I noticed at 10pm my refrigerator was down and almost had a nervous breakdown thinking where I was going to get the money for a new one, when thru my tears I went on Yelp and read nothing but fantastic things about Joel. I called him and he was at my house in 10 minutes on a Friday night! He quickly assessed the situation, replaced the fan, told me to relax, and within 30 minutes my refrigerator was up and working again all for a nominal price! This guy is an ANGEL in disguise! My wife and I woke up yesterday morning to a pool of water on our kitchen floor. We soon realized the refrigerator had stopped working at some point in the evening. Not knowing any repair companies, we searched on Yelp and found Adams repair had a lot of great reviews. We called, Joel answered and he and his son came right over to take a look. He diagnosed the problem-control panel needed to be replaced. Charged a fair rate. We were most happy that he actually had the spare part with him so he could complete the repair. My Amana fridge wasn't cooling so I called Adams and he got the work done. I had tried to get other people to do the work but no one was available therefore I searched the net, read the reviews and called. Good thing he has extended hours at no extra charge. He is very kind man. He came in at 7:15 and he was out by eight, I had called him at ten am if he could go after I got home from work at 4:30pm. He provided two options and gave me advice on what to do because my fridge was able to last another nine years. The job has one year warranty which is great. He cleaned the fridge with the duster and left the floor very neat. I called ADAMS in the late afternoon. The man on the phone was polite, spoke clear to me and took down my details He said he could come as early as 9pm tonight or the next day. I chose 9pm. He called at about 7 and told me he would be here a bit earlier and arrived at 8pm. By 9pm my fridge was fixed, he was polite the entire time and the total cost for a replacement fan and compressor starter was extremely reasonable. Considering i didn't know if my fridge was going to be worth repairing, the $44 yelp service call price is a great low risk way to diagnose any troubles you're having. So basically, I agree with all the good review that led me to call ADAMS in the first place (and the $44 service charge was the icing on the cake). read more

Resounding recommendation for this outfit! Joel came to our place on a Sunday during Fourth of July weekend, and promptly diagnosed and repaired our fridge and freezer ... even brought the appropriate part to replace the defective component causing the problem - and this before he had even laid eyes on the non-functioning appliance. Knew exactly what he was doing .. only took about forty-five minutes from the time he arrived till the time my fridge was working like new again. I needed help after my Electrolux fridge started blowing warm air and malfunctioning. I found Joel online after doing a search for a local refrigerator repairman and was blown away by his service. I spoke to him on the phone and I couldn't help but admire his "CAN DO ATTITUDE". He said, I can be by in 30 minutes and sure enough, he was waiting for me at my house in 30. I have never done a YELP review but I was so pleased with the service that I received from Joel that I felt compelled to yell(P) it from the rooftop. Speedy response, got there before he said he would (what? that NEVER happens!!) Courteous, professional, knowledgeable, honest and nice. When I found Adams Refrigeration at yelp I couldn't believe that pretty much everyone gave him five stars. It was a Saturday evening and I was panicking because my food for Easter brunch was about to spoil, I called Joel and within the promised two hours he was at my doorstep with a polite and reassuring attitude. My husband called Joe in the morning since our GE s/s was not cooling ( temp was 50 ) to schedule an appointment after dinner for the same day. He said he'd be here within the hour and he was! He diagnosed the problem, replaced the part that he had in his truck and used his blow torch to deice the coils inside --- all within 1 hour. He is reliable, offers great service and is professional. I helped out my aunt who lives in the suburbs because she had a pretty new refrigerator that was acting up. These folks were really helpful and nice on the phone. They stayed on the phone with me without rushing me for a while before I made an appointment for my aunt to have them come out to her house and take a look. I selected Adams Refrigeration based on the number of great reviews and this one will be no different. I called them two days ago and they were able to come out that evening. They were on time and prepared with a couple of parts to address the issue. After ten minutes the problem was solved with a very thorough explanation. I was pleasantly surprised by their reasonable service fee($44) and total costs for parts and labor all came to under $150. I would absolutely use Adams in the future. read more

Joel was knowledgeable about the type of refrigerator I have and could immediately diagnose over the phone what issue caused the whistling in my freezer motor and was so fast to respond that he offered to come over in a half an hour! Overall experience was great, Danny provided full explanation on what type of equipment my condo has. He clearly understood how old my equipment was and quickly identified areas that needed attention and suggested appropriate fixes in addition to diagnosing my emergency issue - bad blower. Never once did Danny try to up-sale me on items I did not need. Even up to the very end of the appointment, after completing testing checks we found an issue with low amounts of cold air return to furnace, it was due to not many return air vents throughout the condo unit. To solve for this issue, Danny quickly opened up an additional hole to help insure the furnace continued to work at optimal performance in the future. I called Guy up this morning and was lucky to be fit into what I'm sure is a busy schedule. Guy gave me an ETA, diagnosed the problem quickly upon arrival, and was extremely thorough in making sure everything was working well. Within ten minutes, my house was back around 73 degrees from a sweltering 80 before he arrived. All fees were upfront, honest, and very reasonable. Their communication after being paid is subpar at best, but since they text me less than two minutes after leaving my house asking for a Yelp review, hopefully, this will get their attention and prompt a return call or refund my money in full. Four weeks and three appointments after this all began, my washing machine is in the exact same state as was when we started. The problem started with an error code on my washing machine indicating a temperature sensor needs to be replaced. I pass along the error code to ATAR, and we schedule a repair. The first appointment- I was told by the repairmen that the sensor was bad, and they replaced it. Within 10 minutes of the repairmen leaving, the same error code, and one other error code, both go off. I attempted to text and call their scheduling number, no response from either. I text the cell phone number the repairmen called me when they arrived at my front door, no response. Second appointment- The repairmen could not replicate the error. Without doing any diagnostic work aside from turning the machine on and running it, they tell me the machine must be fine and not to worry about the error codes that were displaying. After doing one load of laundry, the error code occurs again. Third appointment- Although my repair history clearly states that it requires two men to move the dryer on top on top of my washing machine, one repairman was sent out. I offered to help move the dryer but was told that another repairman was in the area, so they would come back together later in the afternoon to finish my repair. While leaving, he told me that I would receive a text to confirm, the techs being sent back out later in the afternoon. None was sent, so an hour and a half later (4:45) I text the scheduling confirmation number looking for confirmation, no response (they close at 6). I called their business line (same number) twice before 6, no answer and not reply to the voicemail I left. The repairman also told me that he needs to test the motherboard as when an error code appears again after the sensor is replaced, it is likely the motherboard. Ok, so when I told them that the original code, and another error code, both displayed again after the first appointment, then why did they not perform a diagnostic on the board the second time they were out? Or any form of diagnostics test on the first visit? After your repairmen left, the machine stopped working within minutes. Your repairmen also sent me a text asking for a Yelp review, also after hours, to which I promptly text notifying them of the issue. When I did not hear back, from either point of contact, I canceled the check. In hindsight, the right move considering that you now have $268 of my money, and my washing machine is in the exact same state as it was when this all started. If this is the time to make excuses as to why your company does not respond to texts and calls after hours, I would love a clear understanding of why after your repair tech yesterday left (telling me that he would be back later in the afternoon and then no-showed), you did not respond to any of my texts or calls starting at 4:45? Your excuse of had to leave the office early does not add up when your main phone line that I called/text is an iPhone. The second appointment. Turning a machine off and back on again for an hour is a pretty rudimentary "diagnostics" test. Most professionals in their given field test the internal components of the machine in some way, shape, or form. When your repairmen came out the second time I did clarify that two error codes had occurred since they replaced the sensor. Per your repairman's recommendation on the third trip, the board should have been tested if error codes occur after the sensor is replaced. That is a diagnostics test, not turning the machine off and back on again. And I never stated that I was satisfied with their resolution, I was told there is nothing else they could do, which come to find out later was not true.

Ralph quoted a fair price and he and his son Alex clearly take pride in their work. They were on time and finished faster than I expected. Flushed the line-set and installed the new evaporator coil. They even fixed a hole in the sheet metal from a previous install and checked my smart thermostat connections which I had installed the night before. I'm one of those customers who ask a lot of questions, but Ralph and Alex are patient and personable. Some advertised "family" businesses are more like "family incorporated". But I got personal service; they didn't rush the job, finished the work to my satisfaction and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.
