Once again the singing crust is phenomenal. I was passing by on a mid Saturday morning and was able to get some great desserts for later in the day. Their sugar cream pie was definitely the best period and I have been eating the wicks pies since I was a kid. The cream puff was as good as any I have had at the state fair as well. Finally another loaf of peasant bread which I'll warn you if you buy and taste this, it will be the only bread you'll want to eat.

    The best croissant!

I bought a fresh croissant today... I was going to put chocolate inside it... I never got that far it just tasted too good just as it was... These croissants remind me of some bakery somewhere in France... Or maybe Italy.... GOOD JOB!!! I just ate your sourdough bread.... yummy! I've been looking for this taste for a long time... 30 years... It reminds me of a French Viennese baguette!

    Lovely iced cinnamon roll.

Stop in to shop for all the tasty goodies! I purchased some sourdough bread to make grilled cheese sandwiches. And chocolate chip cookies $2 each for grand daughters. There are other varieties too. I chose a molasses ginger cookie for myself. The counter person was very polite with others working in the bakery. Next visit I might try a take out sandwich. I'm already thinking about the holiday gatherings and using this bakery to help me "bake".

This review is way overdue, so my apologies for tardiness…read more Mark your calendar and start the clock. If you want to dive into this bake shop, you have 6 hours on Friday's to stop in and indulge in your bread fix. The Harvest Bakery retail store is open from 9am-3pm on Fridays....only Friday. The ladies of this bakery are super sweet. While I am standing there at 9:20am of course on a Friday, a flurry of regulars come in and grab English muffins and cookies and are talking bread. I am thinking "am I too late?....are all the English muffins gone?...are they that special?" After speaking with Marta and Amelia who are working there, I come to discover that this is a family business. Harvest Bakery opened in 2008. They sell primarily to restaurants and markets in the area (this is basically what keeps them busy on the other six days of the week I suppose). The bakery itself is basically a simple storefront. It looks like an old school kitchen in the front and a commercial kitchen in the back. The ambiance is Hautian charming, but also says "buy your baked goods and leave." This is the kind of off the beaten path spots I enjoy discovering. Loaves of bread (whole wheat, white, seed), loaves of swirl bread (cinnamon raisin, mocha chip, bacon cheddar), bagels (plain, asiago, blueberry), quiche, cookies (peanut butter, chocolate chippers, thumbprint) and did I mention the sourdough. They make their own sourdough (multigrain, rye, gold N white). They have a big chalkboard showing all the goods posted in the inside of the store when you walk in. I am advised that the cinnamon roles have not yet properly risen, so of course I wait an hour and return. Worth the wait.... I walked out after the nicest conversation with Marta and Amelia with all sorts of baked goods to share with my parents. The sourdough, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon raisin bread and English muffins I am still remembering so well all these weeks later (but absolutely all items were delicious and I mean that). Those English muffins are ridiculously delicious....a bit insane and unexpected. Thick, fuffy and they toast up just perfect at home in my toaster. It certainly seems like those patrons that walked in when I arrived picking up English muffins are on to something. I am advised that you can call and order ahead of time (if they are only open one day a week, you want to make sure that they don't sell out of those English muffins, right?) Everything was also so reasonably priced. What a delight to discover Harvest Bakery. I hope to be back when visiting my folks in Terre Haute. Maybe I should make sure to always be in town to include a Friday. If they were open to the public for more than 6 hours on one day in a week, my review would have been a 5. But make no mistake, a Yelp worthy establishment to visit.

The owner was absolutely charming. The raspberry cinnamon roll my wife bought was made with raspberries picked in the owner's back yard. We also got some great asiago rolls. We will never pass through Terre Haute without checking to see if Harvest is open, and anyone reading this should do the same.

The food, service and atmosphere are all incredible. Our fave dishes are the cinnamon roll French toast and smoked salmon omelette. We get them and split them so we both get sweet and savory breakfasts! The CRFT is always cooked perfectly, never soggy and doesn't need any syrup. The smoked salmon omelette over flows with smoked salmon and creamy dill sauce, it's to die for. Stop in for breakfast or lunch, you won't be disappointed!

We split a bowl of soup and they kindly served it in separate bowls for us, which I appreciated. The soup of the day was corn chowder and wow, I was surprised how good it was, I do love soups. I'd never tried corn chowder before, but it was creamy, flavorful, and comforting. I ordered the half salad/half sandwich combo. The smoked salmon niçoise salad had a blend of interesting flavors and the dressing paired perfectly with it. For the sandwich, I chose the BLTEA, and unfortunately this was the disappointing part of the meal. The avocado on it was clearly overripe/bad, so dark, mushy, and it gave the sandwich an unpleasant taste. I removed as much as I could, but it still affected the flavor. It was a bummer because this spot usually tastes very fresh. I've had it before and the avocado was fresh, along with the orchard salad which I loved. I would say the orchard salad is my fave. They make their dressings homemade and the dressing for the orchard salad was delicious. The service was still very friendly, and since they were slammed busy, I didn't feel like making a fuss about it. Everything else we had was enjoyable. The inside is small and quaint since it's a house turned restaurant, so it has a cozy but lively ambiance when crowded. One of the best perks here is definitely the made from scratch desserts. I love checking out the dessert case because the staff will happily explain each option and answer questions. There's something oddly satisfying about watching them slice the desserts too. I took a lemon cheesecake to go and absolutely loved it. I've also tried the blackberry wine cake which is a staple and delicious. A seasonal dessert that was really good was the pumpkin pie. You really can't go wrong with home made desserts here.
