We found this little place in San Diego while visiting for a vacation. It was cool. I prefer my other taco spots that I've mentioned here on Yelp so if you follow me, then you know. The service was OK. They were a little slow on getting the food out as there was only one worker. She was cool though. It was a little dated and more of a bar kind of scene but like I said, it was cool. The food was good and everybody seemed to enjoy what they got.

    Grilled Fish Tacos ARE AMAZINGGGG

Single Fin had stayed on my mind since last visiting a year ago but I was so sadly underwhelmed by it this time around. The fish in both the fried and grilled option lacked flavor; they tried to compensate with the toppings but even then, every bite was kind of just the same bleh taste. It was a Sunday afternoon when I went so it was pretty much empty. We sat at the bar and the service we received from Marcelle behind the bar was warm and friendly, efficient and attentive. The food came out fast and we were repeatedly asked if we needed anything throughout our visit.

I had really high hopes for this place as I found it on the recent Yelp Top 100 2025 restaurants in the country but it was a bust wouldn't recommend. Single Fin Surf Grill has a great beach vibe with an open patio and seats facing the main street. The staff was very friendly they have a full service bar with lots of great drinks and specials. I came in for seafood tacos especially since they were listed on Yelp Top 100. I was really disappointment. My friend got the beer battered fish tacos and said they were just fine. I got the Sriracha shrimp tacos and they were just meh. I got them with a corn tortilla and one of my tacos tortillas was on the grill long enough that it turned into a tortilla chip and it was difficult for me to eat. The shrimp was just fine nothing amazing to write home about. I was really underwhelmed. Part of me had great expectations given its listing in Yelp Top 100 but I was just left disappointed. Great staff and great place but the food was just sub-par especially in Pacific/Mission Beach where you can find better food around the corner.

This is a hangout place with an open bar and some seating. We came here for a late lunch, and I had ordered the Cobb salad with sriracha fried chicken bites. It was HUGE and tasty!! I definitely recommend this place for lunch. Parking was a bit difficult to find, but there was a lot nearby. There is a great inexpensive bike rental next door. The guy at the bar was also Taking orders. He was very helpful!

The end result of fish and chips!

The service was great and the fish and chips were really good. I loved the homemade tartar sauce! It's a very chill vibe you order at the bar and they bring to your table. My man is very picky about fish and chips and we have had alot. I don't think he liked it at all!

Our party of 6 walked in and were served immediately! The kitchen was technically closed but they still took our orders and man the food was delish! Fish tacos and burgers! So good. I had the seasonal giant grinchmas drink (that I by myself tried to finish) and it was soooo good (I was unsuccessful in my solo attempt ) Cool vibes! Would definitely recommend!

Went for there $5 breakfast/brunch, when you buy a drink and it was honestly perfect amount. Not too much or too little, just perfect. Bloody Mary also so good after a night out .

This is a cute bar along the beach. Would definitely go back for drinks. The fish tacos were very fresh and loaded. Would have loved a signature salsa to go with them for the extra kick. Very friendly staff.

All the seating options are high-tops, so that can make things difficult if you can't sit in a high seat. There are some tables outside to sit at that are sectioned off in the parking lot. The staff are very friendly and helpful with busing tables. Unfortunately, we didn't see that the poke bowl came with a sesame eel sauce, so it was overly sweet for our liking. Additionally, the coconut rice was too sweet and very mushy. Kind of disappointed in the flavor as everything was too sweet and too mushy. The only thing that we really enjoyed was the blood orange IPA, which is not too hoppy and a great beer! People seemed to enjoy the sandwiches and burgers around us, so I would recommend trying those if you check this place out.

The outdoor seating captures a breezy, beachy-paradise feel, while the cozy indoor area offers a snug retreat for anyone craving a bit more shade and shelter. Soft music and quaint decor tie the whole space together, perfectly echoing the laid-back coastal vibe of the neighborhood. Whether you lean savory or sweet, the menu has plenty to tempt you, and the service was warm and attentive throughout. My boyfriend ordered the American breakfast while I opted for the seasonal veggie omelet with an added helping of jack cheese. I'm usually a devoted meat lover, but the seasonal veggies sounded too good to pass up, and I'm so glad I took the leap. The omelet arrived fresh, fluffy, and utterly delicious, the cheese and vegetables melding together so beautifully that I never once missed the meat. The American breakfast was just as impressive, crowned with gorgeous over-easy eggs whose bright orange yolks practically glowed. The house potatoes were savory and satisfying, and the fig jam paired with warm sourdough was an absolute standout, sweet, rustic, and completely irresistible. I'm knocking off one star since the server who brought our food dropped a piece of toast and, oddly, never replaced it. That aside, the coffee cake we ordered came out piping hot and was the perfect companion to a good cup of coffee.

I also loved the mid century modern building from photos online. When we arrived, we easily found on street parking. It's pretty easy to find, especially since it's free and after 6 pm, the parking regulations relax. Our table had a sweet custom card for our anniversary. I knew I wanted to try the sourdough and the Caesar salad (the shaved parm! See photos!)- but wasn't sure about entrees. Our server came by three separate times, and I was feeling a little flustered and pressured. She walked us through how things were set up, and made suggestions since some entrees came with sides already. We got the Salisbury steak and turnips- probably didn't need the turnips since we had so much other food. But everything tasted soooooo good!!! All the details were impeccable- like our Togo boxes had a valet-style ticket; instead of consuming table space. The complementary chocolates after dinner- a fun surprise. Overall- an excellent meal and experience!

But I've eaten in too many fine restaurants to be dazzled by style over substance. We started with the jalapeño Caesar, which was actually very good, if a bit overdressed. Then things went sideways. The steak tartare was enormously disappointing. The chive-oil base, which the menu claims is a remoulade, was insipid. The beef was unseasoned and so coarsely chopped, I spent a fair bit of time masticating 1-inch chewy pieces. The tiny drop of cured egg yolk and four wafer-thin slices of pickled kohlrabi were asked to do some very heavy lifting. If you're expecting a classic tartare, you're out of luck. If you're dreaming of a novel spin on a classic, prepare to have your hopes dashed. It was an ambitious interpretation, in the sense that it interpreted tartare as something else entirely. Then came the snapper with lemon beurre blanc. The skin was crisp, as advertised, but there was perhaps two ounces of flesh to eat once the skin was gone. The lemon beurre blanc was salty but pleasant, while the vegetables were sufficiently al dente to suggest they had been latterly introduced to the pan rather than cooked in it. Our server was capable and efficient, but I had to ask several times for water from the otherwise friendly waitstaff. With a beer and tip, the meal came to nearly $200. We left hungry and sufficiently unhappy that I'll advise friends and clients to avoid Paradisea. Wish we'd done the same on my partner's birthday. Two of three dishes coming up short isn't good enough. Restaurants serving poorly executed dishes at premium prices don't merit further patronage, though I'd happily spend twice as much for a decent meal.
