A friend recommended Sir Michael's for a Memorial I was hosting. I needed 75 chairs and a reception table. I asked him to come early to set up. Not only did he arrive early but he beat me there by an hour. Then he went over and above setting up he helped me arrange the best angle based on the direction of the sun. Sir Michael's was supposed to bartend my parents' 80th birthday/50th anniversary party. They never showed up that day and we had to scramble to have some of the guests stand in as bartenders. Sir Michael's ended up arriving at the event 24 hours late - that's 24 hours after the end of the party. Then they have the audacity to call back a few days later and ask for partial payment. Despite my mom being a pillar of the community and having previously promoted this local business to other community members, the owner never called to issue an apology. I had my wedding a few weeks ago and went to Sir Michael's because he's good friends with a family friend of mine, I thought they'd treat me well... I thought... The first few phone calls were great, he was real responsive and was tossing ideas my way on what we could do and also gave me some catering suggestions, he sent over an estimate for my wife and I to review... from the moment we wanted to make changes, the headache began. The office admin clearly has no attention to detail skills, it took her 3 times to change the quantity of something and add/remove some items, each change taking over a day, but once we approved she was calling once every hour hounding for payment. The biggest upset was when the items were delivered. When I was setting up the chairs I noticed my hands were turning black from the dirt that was on the white chairs, and many of the pads on the chairs had food residue or were sticky from something being spilled on them. As if I did not have enough to do to finalize our wedding, my father, father-in-law, and myself spent then next two hours cleaning every chair so that my guests wouldn't have their clothes ruined. I'd like to mention that at least 10 chairs had torn pads (see picture). I also asked for some serving utensils for pasta, I got an over sized spoon, not the one with the teeth used to serve pasta, the desert tray was a large tin serving tray, and the tongs to serve other food were grimier than the ones that are at my condo's common area BBQ. I've been to gatherings with this man and his family, I've been to his house to fix his computer and once helped one of his sons with some math homework - this is how I was treated. We gave him a chance to correct this and he promised to call me back to settle this and has not. I would avoid this business at all costs in the future. read more

This company was referred to us by staff at a venue who said they were very reliable. That is not the case! We paid for a bartender who never showed up so our guests pitched in to serve drinks. We have been trying to contact them for a week for a refund, but no return calls or email. Also they promised that the tables and chairs drop off would take 30 minutes, but they only sent 1 guy and it took him 90 minutes which cut into our prep time. He tried to leave before fully unloading or even assembling the tables! Find another vendor if you want your event to run smoothly. read more

If there was the ability to give a negative star rating, Sir Michael's would be the first and probably the only company in that category. No client should ever have to go thru the stress that we went through for our wedding because of the multitude of problems we had with Sir Michaels: 1. Broken promises - We stood there with the owner in his office a few months prior to our wedding as he explained to us that if we purchased globe lights, he would set them up. When the crew came to deliver the Thursday before the wedding, they refused, and Michael seemed to have a case of temporary amnesia as he couldn't recall ever making that promise. 2. They delivered a dance floor with missing parts. They were supposed to set it up the Friday before the wedding. They didn't actually get there until the DAY of the wedding to set up the dance floor. 3. They delivered DIRTY chairs and BROKEN chairs. What kind of event company does that?? 4. They delivered broken glassware. 5. They delivered the wrong color napkins the DAY OF our wedding. 6. With the problems mounting, Michael suddenly became unreachable. I have tried numerous times, leaving several messages, to get in contact with Sir Michaels to get updates on deliveries, on corrections, on the status of equipment ---- No response! After being confronted, all Michael offered was apathetic excuse after excuse after excuse on his gross mismanagement of his company and our wedding. From a company whose primary business is to provide equipment for events, they can't even do that right. If your event is dearly important to you (like a WEDDING), it is not worth the stress, frustration, inconvenience, lack of concern, lack of immediacy, lack of communication, lack of quality, broken promises, and lack of service, you will certainly get from Sir Michaels. Pay attention to the negative reviews on this site. If you are already dealing with him, pull out and save yourself the headaches that are sure to come! If you have not dealt with him, it would behoove you to heed this warning, spend a little more and use a company that can actually do the job they were hired to do! read more

You can't miss the broken hodgepodge they supply for the weekly Eagle Rock Farmers Market. And last year for my cousin's wedding, even my legally-blind aunt described the condition of their rentals as "a scene from Texas Chainsaw Massacre." If you want your next big event to look like a swap meet or murder investigation, I suppose this place should be considered. Otherwise avoid Sir Michael's at all costs. read more

I will not rent from Sir Michael's again. I'm giving them two stars rather than one since the tables & chairs we rented did eventually come, their prices are low & most of the people I interacted with from their shop were friendly (when I could get in touch with them). We rented 7 tables & 70 chairs from Sir Michael's for our wedding this past Saturday, to be delivered Friday. I was told that "97% of the time, they deliver by 2pm at the VERY latest", which was great because we had a dozen or so people helping us set up and we just had to leave for our rehearsal dinner at 5pm. When 2:30pm rolled around & the rentals still weren't there, I called Sir Michael's & the call went to voicemail... repeatedly... for more than an hour. When we finally got in touch with them, they had me repeat my entire order, give them the address, my name, what we'd ordered & then they told us the driver was on his way. Fine. He should have been there before we needed to leave for dinner. But not exactly. The driver rolled up right as we gave up & were leaving for the rehearsal dinner. Then he asked us to help unload everything, while we were wearing our dinner clothes. My mom, our officiant and our friend who was running the sound for our wedding had to help unload everything. He grumbled throughout the unloading process & only helped bring the tables & chairs to the edge of the truck & had us actually move them off the truck & set them away to the side. Getting in touch with them again to see when they'd pick up the tables & chairs was a process as well. I left a voicemail on Sunday asking about pickup, but finally they just came & picked them up on Monday without ever calling me back. Renting from this place was just more stress than I needed surrounding my wedding. I would not recommend this business to anyone holding an event or a wedding where they want someone reliable, easy to get in contact with and on time. read more

I recently got married (a few days ago) and used Sir Michael's for all my wedding rental needs, including service staff. The process was fairly easy and the prices were definitely better than other rental companies I researched. Sir Michael's was also closest to the wedding location, so it was the perfect match. What I was most impressed by was the service staff. I have to give a shout out to Julio, who was the captain. He took care of all of my guests including myself. He mad sure I had a plate of all of my passed hor dourves and champagne/wine. Even though I didn't eat much or get to taste anything else, he always made sure I was taken care of. I don't think anyone went without and overall, the service staff helped things flow perfectly. I highly recommend Sir Michaels. Their prices are great, their service staff is amazing and although communication prior to your event may be a little slow - shit gets done and you are golden. read more

My family rented 4 round tables, 30 chairs, vinyl table clothes, and 3 games (ring toss, can toss, etc) for thanksgiving dinner. Basically a total rip off. Paid a total of about $400. First- they did not arrive on time. The window was from 10-12, they arrived at 2:30pm in Alhambra. Please give notice! Second- when we opened the vinyl table cloths, they DISINTEGRATED and basically fell apart. Needless to say, they were unusable. Third- The tables and chairs were beyond filthy! They literally had dirt and gunk that my aunt spent about an hour scraping off. When you are paying so much money for a service, you expect a level of professionalism and cleanliness to be met. UPDATE 7/12/18 I'm still leaving this place with a one star. After serving Michael with papers, the day before the court date he contacted us and agreed to finally give us back $400, which was what we originally had requested before having to sue him because he completely looked us over. Glad we got what we wanted back, but it shouldn't have taken this long or have to take to small claims to get our refund. Steer away from here. If you're looking for a reliable place to make sure your event runs smoothly and you get everything you actually paid for then DO NOT go with this place. We had a wedding and this place just dropped the ball in every way. The tent wasn't even built correctly so my grandfather had to take it down and build it correctly, had mold and mildew all over it and it wasn't the tent we were promised. One side was shorter so there was a hole on one side. Cups weren't all the same, the little dishes were all different types, broken and chipped cups. Forgot to give us forks, so we had to go out and buy some. The silverware we chose was not what was delivered to us. Utensils were missing and a table cloth was missing. One of the tables was the wrong size. The arch was unstable because it was broken and it was filthy, so we had to clean it as best as possible. The table legs had duct tape on them which was so tacky. It was all a mess. We contacted Michael to tell him about everything that was wrong the day before the wedding and he blatantly didn't care, he didn't try to correct the mistake in any way. The chairs were supposed to be delivered and set up by them on the wedding day in the morning. At around 1 pm, two hours before the wedding the bride was at a hotel getting her hair and make up done and a family member at the site mentioned the chairs weren't there yet. The last thing a bride should be worrying about is why a simple task like delivering and setting up chairs at a certain time is so difficult. Chairs ended up getting there, but they didn't set them up so the guests had to help. It's not the guests job to do this when you paid for it to be done. The white cushions to the seats were all dirty and there was gum at the bottom of almost all the chairs. We tried to reach out to Michael to try to mediate some type of refund after having paid $900 for a service that wasn't delivered 100%. We explained that if we didn't hear from him regarding trying to fix this situation that we would take him to small claims court and that's exactly what's happening. If you've been ripped off by this "company" then you should consider doing the same, it's the principle of the fact. I've been using Sir Michael's for years and have never really been thrilled about the service or attitude Ive dealt with doing business with them. Still, they are close by, so I continued....but not anymore. I can take mediocre service but I cannot tolerate liars. I called them for a slideshow screen and was given a size that all the suddenly didn't exist when I went to pick it up the very next day. I figured they probably rented it out before I got there. I tried to give them my credit card to hold the item in the first place, but Stacy told me it was not necessary. Besides that, their rentals are really beginning to get rusty and old and definitely not worth the prices. If you don't mind bad customer service and dirty, old and rusted rentals, then I recommend this place, but I'm taking my business elsewhere from now on! read more

We have used Sir Michaels for years and always been pleased. This year after reading the reviews I was a bit concerned, but thought that they had earned our trust so contacted them. Isabella helped me on the phone and I could tell she cared and was paying attention. She wrote down our order and said she would call me back with the estimate. She promptly did and was very friendly, professional and easy to work with. They delivered everything when promised without a problem. Quickly and efficiently set up as requested. Isabella even called a few days prior to double check our order and verified everything. She even questioned the fact that we had 40 chair and 5 round tables, but only asked for 8 place setting of silverware, and no round table clothes so she made sure it wasn't an oversite. She was on top of each detail. The evening went well and everything looked beautiful. The pick up came when they told us they would and again were very professional, hard working and polite. I was very disappointed from my experience with Sir Michaels. We spent $400 on tents, tables, chairs, table clothes, and wine glasses. The tents were set up but never anchored into the grass, which I thought was odd. The tents and chairs were so filthy, it was obvious to me that these items are rarely cleaned. The table clothes were faded and 3 out of the 4 had a hole in them. Two of our table clothes were the wrong size for the tables we ordered. Out of 40 wine glasses we were able to use 25 of them. The rest were either chipped or had old wine residue in the bottom of the glass. This was my first time working with this company and my last. Also the driver showed up 1/2 hour early to pick up our rentals, which made our guests uncomfortable. read more

Michael was really a blessing to our wedding. He knows the Eagle Rock area so well and has serviced events at our venue in the past (Center for the Arts Eagle Rock) so we felt at ease with his knowledge. He was one of the first vendors we talked to when we began planning the event and he even gave us recommendations to just about everything else we needed on our list. He even personally called the food caterer and wedding cake baker to let them know we were interested in consulting with them; his network is just amazing and everything he recommended turned out to be a great success (we decided to choose his food/cake recommendations and it was BOMB). Michael really went out of his way to ensure our day was awesome and beautiful and everything was ready and set up by the time we got to the venue. The wait staff he provided was also very helpful; they were dressed professionally and were attentive to us and our guests when we needed help with anything (cake serving, dropped forks, etc). SIR Michael's event planning and rental recommendations were spot on for my 2009 Christmas Eve Party. The weekend before my party, I visited their storefront location and met the owner. He was very pleasant and patient. He listened, and offered his suggestions. I did a bit of price negotiation, and he accepted and was more than fair. On the day of my party the delivery man showed up with all the correct # of reserved tables, plateware, stemware, flatware, and linens, with extras thrown in at no additional charge! My only peeve is they didn't call me 1 day ahead with a specific time to expect the drop-off. However, everything worked out fine. And the pick-up the day after went smoothly too. I would highly recommend this business, and plan to use them again for future dinner parties. Their rentals were clean, unbroken, and affordable. I am surprised to read the bad reviews....I had a pretty good experience with Sir Michaels....the only reason for not getting a 5 star is due to the fact that they didn't respond to any emails and some of the younger staff inside aren't as well versed in your event as the owners (couldn't find the rental slip when I was there etc). However, I learned quickly and always made sure to speak with one of the owners and ask specific questions and therefore had no major issues! On to the good....I had to order plates, flatware, stemware and bar/water glasses for a 75 person wedding. I received a quote from Classic Party Rentals and after hearing 1500 dollars, I began to look elsewhere. I came across Sir Michaels as they are right in our Eagle Rock neighborhood. The quote I received from them was almost 1,000 less. I don't know what fees other Yelpers are upset about, but I felt Sir Michaels were completely within reason. Classic Party was going to charge for gas plus huge fees for both drop off and delivery. Sir Michaels only had one delivery fee plus a small after hours fee (as they were picking up at midnight). On the day of...they were not just on time, but early with the delivery. The plates and such were fine. No issues. Catering set everything up to their specifications and Sir Michaels were back to pick up when they said. Couldn't have been happier and I saved 1,000 dollars! read more

Last week we had a snafu with chairs for our baby shower but it all got worked out. I recently used Sir Michael's for my wedding, and very much regret my decision to do so. One quarter of the plates we ordered were delivered dirty. Not just poorly washed - actually used. Embarrassing. They were also two different sizes, though that's a minor detail compared to the dried food that was caked on them. Nobody was in the office and we were not given any emergency contact information. Our caterers (not hired from them) were kind enough to wash them on the spot, but dinner was delayed and the servers weren't able to do the other things they were supposed to do). A half-hearted apology and an offer to refund us the price of the dirty plates doesn't really make up for the HUGE inconvenience, frustration, and stress this caused us on our wedding day. Even if it costs a little more money, go elsewhere if you're planning an event that matters. read more

My mother and I ordered some chairs from here for an event we were hosting. My mom called early Saturday morning (the day of the event) and they told her to come by at 2:30, for that's when they were closing. When we arrived at 1:40, they were already closed. Horrible, horrible. Ruined my Thanksgiving. I ordered all the chairs, utensils, goblets, etc. from them for my Thanksgiving dinner, at least a week in advance. Well, listen up folks. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP. I started calling them Wednesday night to find out where they were-NO ANSWER. I tried calling Thanksgiving morning to find out where my stuff was-NO ANSWER. I had to use paper cups and plastic forks, with odd chairs I could find around my house for my Thanksgiving event. I called them the next day and they said oh, it was just a mis-communication, sorry. I hired Sir Michael for my wedding-- combination ceremony & reception. So we're talking tables, chairs, linens, plates, glasses, flatware, etc etc.- for 115 people. This was a good sized order & a good chunk of money. Let's start with the good: their prices were definitely at the low end of what I found when shopping around. And, broadly speaking, they did deliver what we'd agreed upon. (Though not 100%, and not without challenges- see below.) So they didn't screw up anything huge or anything. And they were recommended by the venue we were using, which is a big part of why we chose them. But the big negative, and the reason I could not recommend them: their customer service is spotty at best, and downright bad at worst. It's the luck of the draw who you wind up working with-- who answers the phone. Some of the staff seem both knowledgeable (ie, they CAN answer your questions) and responsive (ie, they CARE about answering your questions). But it's rare that you get both, and you sometimes even get dismissive, condescending, and not-even-paying-attention. Emails to them often go ignored. Their follow-up was unimpressive, and it took me way too much time to figure out who the helpful people there are (I think she knows who she is). After settling on a price, that's when we found out about all the extra charges: delivery fee; set-up fee; pick-up fee. Make sure you find out if your quote includes ALL charges! We did have some challenges on the day of the event, when they didn't show up on time-- and we couldn't get a hold of them to find out why! They also didn't set up the room according to pre-arranged specs; didn't bring exactly the right stuff (some wrong linens); some of what they brought was damaged (torn linens, dirty plates & flatware); and some things they forgot. To be fair, they quickly sent someone out to supply the missing napkins and spoons, which was a relief. Overall, they caused more headache than I wanted for my wedding, and I wish I'd spent the extra money to get a more professional provider. read more

I hired Sir Michael's for my wedding this past weekend, it was held at the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock. All the other vendors I hired went above and beyond and were just amazing to work with and won't hesitate to use them in the future. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about Sir Michael's. I sent them the following email but never received a response. Not that my husband and I expected a refund of any kind to be honest but we hoped for at least an apology but we received nothing of the sort. Aug 29 (3 days ago) to Sir Michaels: Hello Jen, Stacy, and Michael, I'm emailing to advise you that we had some big issues with your service for our wedding this past Saturday the 27th at the Center for the Arts. First off I provided you with a layout of the venue and where each table would be set up and paid for this service. It didn't happen, your guys showed up and left everything. My brothers, the Officiant and the coordinator ended up having to put everything out and to make it worse it pushed back the wedding all together. We ended up starting the ceremony almost an hour late because of this! I couldn't believe your crew had done this. I also paid for a bartender/Pourer and someone to assist her throughout the wedding (pick-up empty glasses, plates from tables and such) plates were not being picked up from tables the guests were doing it themselves and for some odd reason the bartender opened all the bottles and tossed out all to caps/tops (including one large wine bottle that was never served!) so there was no way to save the large amount of alcohol and wine that was left over! But it doesn't end there, before I noticed all this the girls said everything was cleaned and great, I thanked them because they were overall very nice girls but guess what the kitchen hadn't been cleaned out and they left ice bags just melting stacked in the sink which ran off onto the floor and we had to clean up the mess and mop the floor due to all the running water. Unbelievable. We forced the ONE man you sent to pick-up the tables and chairs to break it all down since no one bothered to set up in the first place. Everyone was asking "WHO DID YOU HIRE THEY WERE TERRIBLE?" and sadly its true. We lost a whole hour for our wedding and we can never get that back, its truly unfortunate and although we made the best of these failings we could never ever recommend your services to anyone or use you in the future. I'm requesting a refund for the set up fee and bartender fee due to loss in the hour that I paid for at the venue (which cost $150 an hour) and the loss in the alcohol we were not going to be able to return or use. We rented linens and a dance floor from them for our wedding. They had been to the venue and recommended a plastic dance floor (mistake #1- it should have been wood). They were supposed to set up friday, but they just dropped it off and set up saturday. Come Saturday, they were still constructing the floor while guests arrived. The edges weren't finished, and it was uneven. It was horrible. Had they set up on friday, we could have switched out for the correct floor. We managed to dance on it (as most drunks at a wedding do) but I remember trying to avoid wobbly areas of the floor during my first dance. Yes, we got a refund, but it was so easy that it makes me think that they are so used to giving refunds for bad service. Even if the dance floor wasn't a disaster, getting the right linens for the chair covers was also annoying ( I made a few useless trips when they told me they had samples, only to find that they didn't have them, and then that they did have them, but the girl didn't realize they were in the office) Come on, get it together. I lived an hour away- going there for nothing was very very annoying. I would absolutely never recommend them. read more

They really came through for us. Last Saturday was my sister's surprise bday party. It was going to be in our backyard in a tent. But it rained, and it rained, and it was wet and disgusting and I basically woke up hating life that morning as I heard the sound of the rain. Well, we then decided the hell w/it, let's move the party inside. We moved all the furniture from our friend's house to their garage. We then moved in all the furniture rental (which we got from another rental company) and set up the party. But then we noticed something that looked rather ghetto. The kitchen area was right in front of our really cool bar, and right next to our super lit up dance floor, and within clear view from our lounge themed sitting area. We called back our rental company, and asked if they could bring some curtains over. They said they got nothing. So I went on Yelp and I found Sir Michaels. I spoke to Stacey who was so helpful, efficient and sweet. I told her our issue, and she suggested renting some black curtains, which are attached to these long poles and stands, and we can close off any area we want. when my husband drove down to Sir Michaels ,he also saw these really cool velvet rope entrance poles... like they have in clubs (which went perfectly with our theme). So we rented a lot of the curtains, and the velvet rope entrance. OH MY GOODNESS. It changed the entire party, everything looked awesome and the black curtains were the perfect backdrop. I can honestly say that if Sir Michael's didn't come through last Saturday, our party would have been nowhere near how cool it was. The pricing was also incredibly reasonable. Basically curtains which will cover 10 feet are only $25. At that price, why stop at the kitchen? We also closed off the tv area, and went for a whole transformation. The best part... it all cost about a measly $100. I'll definitely be going back to them. read more

I coordinated a wedding for a friend at the LA River Center this past weekend. The LA River Center is a gorgeous venue, but you have to bring in everything, from ice cubes to silverware. Sir Michael's provided tables, chairs, linens, plates, cutlery, outdoor heaters, and serving staff. They were EXCELLENT. The event called for a lot of "scene changes," and the staff was proactive and responsive when it came to moving tables around. When little things came up -- ice running out, an outdoor heater needing adjustment, they were totally on top of it. George was the lead server and he was great. Very polite, reliable, made the event run on time. Highly recommended. read more
