a large cheese pizza in a box

I've been meaning to try this local place for quite some time. Finally went for it and found it to be average. The marinara sauce was very chunky, was weird to try to dip the cheese-sticks into. There were an excessive amount of onions on one of the pizzas and the pizzas were fairly greasy. The bacon cheeseburger was decent, we added black olives. With all the pizza places in the area, it won't be at the top of my list.

Look.... idk what happened to this place in the last year but their breadsticks aren't the same. Pizza is still good, but Lansing, Michigan's sir pizza in Old Town has always been way better in quality. This does not compare whatsoever. I've eaten here at least 15 times in the past year but every time it's just not as good as what I grew up with. Take it from a foodie.

Great pizza and friendly service. Great inspection rating on the wall of 96!

However, the food was incredibly delicious, and the service was very good. We ordered pizza, a calzone, a meatball sandwich, salad and two different gnocchi dishes. The shrimp in mine was perfectly cooked and worked beautifully with the tender gnocchi and amazing sauce. Everyone else enjoyed their choices. My recommendation; definitely go out of your way, as we did, but eat it elsewhere. It's well worth it.

Like, it's good enough that you *will* contemplate eating your order in your car before heading home. It's well worth the drive and it will live up to everything you've heard/read. It will. You absolutely need to patronize it. TdG had been on my radar for a minute but I'm not often in Hermitage* and I couldn't justify driving out of town for food when I have other options closer by. BUT I had to find out if the food was *just* that good. I'd read rave after rave. It's just pasta. Can it be that great? So, on a chilly late fall Saturday night I decided I needed to find out. I'd done my research so I knew the place was small. I knew I might need to play human tetris in the waiting area on a cold day. I knew what to order. But I also 'knew' that the 'say Yelp' phrase would offer a discount. The phrase was uttered but no discount came my way (which is the reason for the four stars instead of five). Lack of discount aside, everyone with whom I interacted was very polite and welcoming even despite the place being a madhouse of activity and orders. My food was ready in an appropriate amount of time and the bag had adequate weight/heft. The pleasant aroma filled the cold air as I walked to my car and surrounded me all the way home. I came home, poured a glass of wine, plated my food and... wow. This was/is phenomenal. I ordered the 4 cheese gnocchi and, without a doubt, one of the best gnocchi dishes I have had in life (and I used to be paid to eat**). I think I uttered the word 'perfect' between forkfuls. Each 'perfect' pillowy dumpling was lathered in a combo of mozzarella, asiago, gorgonzola, and pecorino. That alone would have been delicious but woven into the dish were ribbons of crispy prosciutto. Other.Worldy. It's getting cold. Sweater weather is here. Bathing suit season is months away. You're free to eat heaping plates of some of the best pasta you've ever had. *I came before they had a second location. **Among other things.

Their specialty is craft beer and pizza, and they I typically go for both of those when here. On a recent visit for a quick dinner, I wanted something a bit lighter because I had to go play bowling after and tried a menu item that's always intrigued me: the blueberry chicken sandwich on their house made panuozzo bread. I expected this would be like a chicken salad but the waitress said it came hot and melty, and I was in the mood for a risk. And man did the risk pay off, this sandwich was one of my favorite things I've eaten all month! It comes hot and melty with a house made pesto, blueberry compote, fontina, and thin pieces of chicken, perfectly cooked. The panuozzo bread is almost as if you made naan out of pizza dough, and it keeps everything nicely contained without making the sandwich too bready. The flavors are unexpected but work so, SO well together - truly a work of genius. I paired it with their shake shake fries, which have an awesome seasoning (not spicy, just adds flavor) and a Diet Coke. Service was so kind and helpful, even on a busy Wednesday night. I was able to get in and out within 40 minutes, which was a win for the time crunch I was in but I still felt relaxed to eat my sandwich at my leisure. I love it the level of consistency in quality and service here after so many years - I truly always know I'm guaranteed to have a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere with helpful servers every time I come. Nice dedicated parking lot in back is just an added bonus to the overall experience here!

Everything was clean and well maintained, which added to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The food was very good. My wife ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce, and the portion was so generous that I took half of it home. I ordered the Sicilian pepperoni pizza, which was a large portion and tasted very good, although it appeared to have been sitting in the case for much of the day. We'll definitely return when we're in the mood for pizza or another plate of spaghetti. Overall, I'd give this restaurant 4.5 out of 5 stars and would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a cozy, reliable place to eat.

We also got the dessert trio to take home. I'll start with my entree. I liked it quite well. I will say the marinara here is on the sweet side. Not saying it is bad just informative. I added some red pepper flakes to spice it up a bit and you don't put Parmesan on seafood so I didn't have that to offset the sweet. I will try the spaghetti and meat sauce next time. My wife's chicken piccata was not really to her liking but I did think it was good. It's not overpowering with lemon and the sauce was a little thin. She also had the small Greek salad and I missed the picture but it was anything but small and the dressing was excellent. The star was the garlic knots. OMG and I used it to dip in the leftover marinara. As for the restaurant overall it's something I would expect in a neighborhood in Chicago or New York. We saw several pizzas coming out and want to try that as well.

But, speaking to that, it had a couple of intersting aspects. One, they would literally give you 10-20% more if you ordered that dish to go because their to-go containers when filled were noticeably larger than the dishes your entrees came on. And, two, their "spaghetti" was actually linguine and is 100% the reason linguine is my favorite noodle when it comes to traditional rope pasta. I told you that to tell you this, Fayzano's "linguine" is definitely fettuccine. Those noodles were super wide. Not that that's a huge deal, but much like getting linguine when you're expecting spaghetti, the mouth feel for fettuccine is not the same as the mouth feel for linguine. It holds the sauce different, it retains the clams different, and the proportion of sauce to pasta is super different. I mean--it was good. Clams in red sauce will always be my preferred go-to order, but I still would've rather had the skinnier flat noodles of a linguine than a super wide fettuccine noodle. It's just more satisfying to me. The service here was good. They got our food quickly and with minimum banter. And then they got out of the way, checking in maybe every five to ten minutes, which is the perfect amount. The ambiance was good. It's a good neighborhood pizza and pasta joint like Carmine's. It's not very big but it has a lot of spacing between the tables as not to feel cramped up in there. It's also deceptively laid out to feel fuller than it is, which is nice. It gives the whole place a nice energy. I still wish thru had real linguine, but if that's my chief complaint then you know this place is doing something right.
