We took our 9 month old German shepherd in due to some broken cartilage in his elbow. He got caught in a dog paneled fence around 4 months. The limp would come and go. Dr. Tan was shown video's of him pouncing and barking at the ground, concrete, dirt, hardwood floor. He said our pup had a high pain tolerance. Well, after surgery we were told to keep him from using his leg, and sedated; he is 9 months old - you keep a puppy from playing. I wish they had put a Hard Cast on his leg for a better chance to heal. He still limps and still pounces. He will probably require surgery again or possibly amputation of his leg. read more

They are the only bonified orthopedic dog surgeon in town,, but at least there was one. Our dog had a simple clean break,, we're were given a range to estimate the expense,, the price came back at the max without much explanation. The paperwork was more like filling out surgery forms for a human instead of a pet,, ok I guess, it's harmless. My only real complaint was that they evidently cut her toenails. One was absolutely cut too deep,, , there was blood spatters on her fur,, it could have been from the surgery, but the blood location seemed to indicate the toe was the source. I'm pretty sure the toe will heal ok. read more

Our Aussie, Scout is about 6 months post TPLO surgery and I cant say enough good things about Sirius. I'll admit, it was rough the first 60 days and we worried if we made the right decision since she's almost 9 but now she's back to her old self and we're glad we had the surgery done. We had one minor set back when her incision opened up while we were out of town but the dr helped us find a local vet that could restitch the incision. read more

Our puppy Herb had hip surgery at Sirius a week ago. Thank you so much for identifying the problem and addressing it quickly. The staff took wonderful care of him and we appreciate how they bumped up the surgery for our little guy. My only complaints regard the policies and SOME lack of communication surrounding the day of the surgery. We received plenty of information, but we were not told that Herb might not get into surgery until 5 pm, which is the time he went in. I appreciate the texts, but I was shocked when I learned at 1pm that he wasn't even going into surgery until that evening. I dropped him off at 8 am that day and he did not get to eat until that night, roughly 24 hours after his last meal. That seems like a long time to be NPO. I don't understand why the animals do not get designated time slots. I would have been much more calm had I known that he was going in at a set time. He received excellent care overnight and I am very thankful for that because it really lessened the stress on our end when he came home. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Horstman and his staff. Not only did Dr. Horstman repair our dog Molly's ruptured cranial cruciate ligament, he also saved Molly's life! Prior to surgery, Dr. Horstman discovered a large mass on Molly's spleen that almost certainly would have killed her without surgery to remove her spleen. Upon healing from the splenectomy surgery, Dr. Horstman and his team did an outstanding job repairing Molly's ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. I would not have trusted any other veterinary surgeon to perform the complex tibial plateau leveling osteotomy surgery. Dr. Horstman's credentials are impeccable, and his skill level is unmatched. Not only that, but he and his staff are very friendly and they took excellent care of Molly. Furthermore, a veterinary technician is at the clinic all night to monitor the animals recovering from surgery, so that greatly reduces the anxiety and stress associated with leaving a beloved pet overnight. Overall, the Omaha metropolitan area is lucky to have Dr. Horstman and his staff. Needless to say, if Molly were ever to have another orthopedic injury, I would most definitely return to the Sirius Veterinary Othorpedic Center for treatment. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone else who's pet is in need of orthopedic treatment. Thank you! read more
