My dog, Roman Lee, who is a mixed American Bully and Pit Bull, and I made the move from Colorado to Nevada three months ago. Since then, Roman has had some trouble adapting and has become a little aggressive. I reached out to Sit Means Sit, where Roman was trained in Colorado, and Mike was extremely helpful. He made an appointment to come to our home and give an assessment of Roman Lee. It was amazing to see how quickly Roman Lee responded to him. I quickly realized it wasn't Roman who needed to be reset--it was me. Now we are working on classes, and Mike is going to do a reassessment in a week. Flashback 6 months ago: I tried all sorts of collars, vests, harnesses, leashes-nothing stopped my dog from going rouge on the leash. I hated to walk her. Plus, she was a fraidy cat. Cried when we left her even for a minute and coward around other dogs. Oh, and when I called her, you could just tell she was thinking "you talking to me?" Now? She walks next to me in 'heel' position, sits on command, and we can leave her home for a few hours. She plays with other dogs, even the big ones! And yes she comes when called! It is great having a happy pet and a companion that enjoys going for walks and to play in the park. D'Awna has been a great trainer, for me and my dog! We had a couple private lessons and now attend the group lessons. Although I did not sign up for the 'board and train', I see fast results during group class with those pups. We rescued a dog during the quarantine who we came to find out she was people and dog aggressive and a big puller on the leash. All professional training was shut down. I did as much as I could on my own, but I knew my pup needed professional help. Finally we were able to get a consult and training dates and all I can say is WOW!!! Tammi and Richard are amazing! They love dogs and love training and it shows. My dog is a new dog. She has work to do still, but Tammi and Richard laid the foundation for us. She walks at a perfect heel. No more pulling. She obeys commands and listens. This was the best thing we could have done for our dog and for us. We will be taking her to the group classes to keep our new skills up to par. I now feel more comfortable taking my dog on walks in public and we are now more free to take her with us to do all the activities we love to do. I signed up for a 3 lesson package and being the holiday time got a 4th session free. Don came to the house twice for 1 hour sessions, which were about 30 minutes each. The last time Don text and asked to do a lesson that day I said I couldn't but could the next day. That was the last I heard from him. First off- dog behavioral problems can not be fixed in 5 or less sessions. It's been almost 2 years since my female pittie boarded for 2 weeks with Rachel and Dan. Since then I have been attending their on-site, in park classes in Summerlin as well as their classes at the corporate office. Rachel, Dan(who my dog adores) and the entire Sit Means Sit staff have been nothing but educating, supportive and knowledgable while my pittie and I both learned to change our habits. In the past, my dog was unable to be in the same room as a strange dog and now she sits there with her full attention on me, completely ok with the other dogs. They have done a great job at catering the activities in classes to my pittbull and the other dogs' specific problem and creating situations which help them work through these problems. In the process, if your dog is the most problematic in class she/he will not be treated like a pariah. The Sit Means Sit staff and clients are very tolerant and understanding when it comes to problem behavior. New dogs come in weekly and with work improve and change so drastically that everyone knows its only a matter of time before that problem dog is changed too. For this reason, the corporate and on location group classes give you plenty of opportunities for your dog to work on whatever issues it may have. It also can be useful as just plain teaching your dog some off leash commands. The collar is definitely not a shock collar and has been a vital tool in teaching my dog to pay attention. The trainers will work with you and help you tailor your training to what works for you. I wish I would have done this when I first adopted my pittie. When you sign up don't expect an instant miracle. If you have major issues such as aggression it will take work and persistence in class as well as out of class. I was told about Sit Means Sit from a friend who signed up for the Beginner Class. I had been looking for some training for my young bully mix (who thinks its funny to run away from me into on-coming traffic -true story) for a while. However, I had given up hope looking because most training was out of my price range. I'd just like to share my experience from today. I had my first in-home consultation with a girl D'Awna. I am shocked by the other reviews. I guess they don't mind being treated horribly. I have never had a worse experience with a trainer. D'Awna was extremely rude and condescending. She did not listen when I voiced my concerns. She rushed me along when I told her the issues I'd been having and had short snappy responses to my concerns. When she worked with my dog, she pointed out how my dogs issues were my fault. Not what you're wanting to hear as a caring owner possibly spending thousands to get my dog trained here. I'm reaching out to a trainer to LEARN how to best work with my dog, not be berated in my own home. I will go someplace where I feel respected and understood, not talked down to like I was today. She only pointed out problems I already knew of(the reason I'm looking for a dog trainer), without any plans for solutions (even when I asked specifically). Then at the end, she coldly showed me the list of prices and says "so which option do you want". I am a military spouse and will be sure to also share this experience on our spouse page to NOT TO GO HERE. Sadly my experience with Sit Means Sit was not a positive one. Rachel and D'Awna came out to my house and did a demonstration and I was very impressed with how well behaved Rachel's dog was but I was very concerned about using a "Shock Collar" on my dog. I specifically asked them if it was a shock collar and they insisted that it wasn't but that it "was just going to deliver a very mild massaging type" feeling to my dog. Rachel had me place it against my finger and she used the device on the lowest setting possible. Seemed reasonable to me at that time but after further research I realized how wrong I was. I feel horrible that I ever subjected my dog to this type of training as I discovered the following things after researching them. There is not a vibration, it is a painful jolt It is inhumane to subject a dog to this kind of pain Can cause burns to the dogs skin and fur Causes increased stress in the dog Dogs live in a constant state of fear anticipating the next shock When a dog associates people with the feeling of pain they can become more aggressive towards people. Dogs learn to mistrust their owners Shock collars should only be used as a last resort and not in day to day training Studies have shown that training with a shock collar is no more effective than without a collar so why subject your dog this kind of treatment? Thankfully after learning all of this and also consulting my vet regarding these collars I stopped going after a few training sessions but the corporate office has refused to refund my money. I emailed them repeatedly regarding what went on at some of the classes with D'Awana and they still wouldn't return my money. I had an issue in my class where I felt that my dog was in danger because there was an out of control pitt bull in one class who seemed hell bent in going after my dog in particular. He tracked her movements the entire class at one point lunging at her while her owner had little to no control over her own dog. When I asked D'wana what I should do she said "I can't tell you what your'e supposed to do" Really? Aren't you the trainer in charge of this class? If she doesn't know what to do then who does? Clearly this was without question one of the biggest mistakes I have made and a costly one as well. Run, don't walk as far away from this company and these dog trainers as you possibly can. Save your time and money and find a reputable dog trainer who doesn't resort to using a shock collar. read more

I can't say enough about how awesome D'Awna has been! I have a very rambunctious husky that has been a bit of a challenge for me but with D'Awnas help both me and my dog are much more relaxed and have made so much progress. The changes in my dogs behavior are amazing he has come so far and is only getting better. She is so nice and patient with the dogs, really addressing each dogs individual needs. Rachael and Dan are really as good as it gets! My dog was always friendly to other dogs, but once she got attacked by two big dogs, she changed. She started snapping at other dogs at the dog park, she started barking and lunging at them while on a walk. I was heartbroken and I felt devastated thinking that she might always be this way. I will admit that the idea of using an e-collar scared me. I thought it was mean. I was completely wrong. It's never used as a punishment, it is only used as an extension of your voice. It made complete sense. When she is in "freak out" mode when seeing another dog, she can't hear a word I'm saying. She is way too intense to hear me, even when I'm screaming. With Sit Means Sit, they teach you how to communicate with your dog even when they are in an intense state. The results I saw even on the first day were amazing. The first class I went to, Pepper had to wear a muzzle and tried to attack EVERY dog in class. I kept at it, and after several classes, and a board and train session with Rachael and Dan, I'm seeing that Pepper can be who she really is, a friendly outgoing dog even with other dogs. When I was on vacation, Rachael sent me a video of Pepper playing and having fun with other dogs! It made me tear up, it was so great to see her being a dog again. Just the other day one of my kids let Pepper out of the house. My neighbor was on a walk with his greyhound. Before I could grab her, Pepper approached the greyhound respectfully and they met each other normally, with no incidents! I was so thrilled and relieved! I have nothing but positive things to say about Sit means sit, and D'Awna, my dog trainer. This is simply the best investment for you and your dogs!!! I have two Puggles. The truth is, as much as I love them and treat them like my children, they had a lot of problems that I allowed to go on for years. I enrolled them in immersion training. D'Awna took my boy home for ten days, and when he returned I simply could not believe the difference. My family joked that she spray painted a well behaved dog to look like mine and swapped him out. He has been doing amazing since coming back home. He listens...truly listens to me and is just as well mannered as can be. She currently has my girl for immersion, and I can't wait to get her back and see the results. D'Awna is very good with the dogs. She is incredibly knowledgeable and you can see she cares for you and your dogs. I have yet to take a group class, but have had several private lessons, and will eagerly attended group classes! Hands down totally satisfied with their services. We have two pit bulls that started with Summerlin Sit Means Sit back in the beginning of this year. They have come so far since starting the program. They sit when the door bell rings, they sit when people enter our house, they dont pull on walks, they are able to sit on place around other dogs without moving, they heal at our sides while on walks, among other things. We go to as many weekly classes as we are able to and no matter when we go all the staff is absolutely wonderful and helpful. I have been a client with Sit Means Sit Summerlin since April 2011. I had previously put my dog through other obedience training, agility training and had passed the Canine Good Citizen test and therapy dog test, but I wanted continued training, and that is what I get with SMSS. I liked the other trainings I had gone to before also, but they were short and expensive and if you missed a class it couldn't be made up. I like that with SMS I choose to go as often as I want to and it does not cost me anything extra and I don't lose anything if I skip classes. I believe that dogs need continued work, and going to classes on a regular basis is best for the dog and the owner. I love that SMS offers that. You pay a onetime fee and get training for the life of your dog. I love that it is flexible for my travel and time. Rachael and Dan hold classes all over the Summerlin Valley which allows for people to not always travel far for class. The parks that we have trainings are rotated as well so that dogs also have to work in new and unfamiliar places. I feel that this is a more realistic setting. The training they offer is done as a whole group but they also work on things that people request or that an individual might need practice with. My dog had dominant/aggressive issues the class allows me to practice working on these behaviors in a safe and controlled environment. I like that during class we take breaks where the dogs can play and interact, this allows my dog to interact and play with other dogs that I know have the same training as him and the dogs are under the control of their owners. This is a safe environment to teach dogs how to behave and interact appropriately. I always feel welcomed to ask questions even when not in class. Rachael and Dan are available by phone and that is a great tool. I also love that they offer boarding as well, because then I know my dog is safe when I am away. Rachael and Dan also offer other events like hiking and bbqs to continue work in real life situations with the dogs. Rachael and Dan have offered me peace of mind with my dog in public places. It is nice to know that I have a knowledgeable team that I can ask questions, share ideas and get feedback on the training and safety/health of my dog. Rachael and Dan have also brought on other trainers and I feel confident that the new trainers have the same ideas and process of working dogs. They have brought on a new trainer recently and she does the classes the same way. She is very confident in her presentation of materials and I feel confident that my dog and I are continuing to get the proper training needed to continue our growth. We have owned many pets, dogs and cats and always wanted to have our canines trained. Our schedules often precluded us from going to training, so we felt we would spend the $$ and lose out...not to mention the fuzzy wouldn't get the training. When we moved to Las Vegas and finally had the time, we decided to try SIT MEANS SIT (SMS) because our new neighbor recommended it. The trainers came to US! We later learned the trainers come to you as often as you ask for special training...which has been a total of three times thus far...the rest of the time we go to class, they offer 2-4 in the mornings and 3 in the evenings depending on the time of year. What we learn and see with other owners only makes us more pleased that we decided on SMS. All the trainers...we've met three...are terrific and more than willing to help with anything. We had some issues with our terrier mix going into her kennel (her bedroom as Trainer Dan calls it) when we wanted and asked Dhim to come and help. He was there that afternoon and Libby goes into the kennel without issue after only one afternoon! We have more expectations that we know SMS will help us achieve. SIt means sit dog training are amazing. Firstly, they are so friendly and accommodating. Rachael is wonderful when I have a question, comment or concern she is always around and calls back right away to help me out. I just got a mastiff puppy who is afraid of going outside the house! And my roommate has a yorkie who originally owned the house barking constantly and even biting before we had a few training sessions. I love the fact that they are always willing to help out and guide us through our specific dog issues. My mastiff is finally leaving the house with little issues. I think the main thing that sets these trainers apart from the rest is the fact that they take the time and effort to work on your specific dog issues and won't stop until they are all taken care of.
