Sitar is amazing! We came here as a group of 3 for lunch. They have a great lunch deal which they say is served in "lunch portions" but I thought was still a good amount of food. For all their food, they ask for a spice level (I believe the options are mild, medium, and spicy). We started off with the Achari Gobi which we got as medium (I believe) and it was quite spicy! We all loved it. Each of us got a curry - Saag, tikka masala, and vindaloo. They were all great and the spice levels we requested (one mild and 2 spicy) were all very appropriate and delicious. Their naan was also delicious. Perfect mix of crispy edge and soft inside. I can't wait to go back again for lunch!

We've driven past Sitar for years and finally decided it was time to check them out! I don't know what the restaurant looked like previously inside, but I know they just renovated and it's really nice! We were adventurous and tried goat for the first time, and we thought it was delicious! The malai chicken kebab was flavorful and not dry at all. Friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely come back here!

One of my go-to Indian restaurants in New Haven! The first thing they gave us when we sat down were a few flavorful crackers with sauces as a snack and it was already off to a great start. We got my go-to orders of Bhindi Masala (a staple Indian dish made with okra, whole and ground spices, herbs, onions & tomatoes) and Saag Paneer (a popular Indian vegetarian dish made of spinach and other leafy greens (called saag) and paneer (Indian cottage cheese)) and we were very satisfied. It all came with a large side of rice. It didn't look like a lot when the food arrived, but it turned out to be a lot more than we expected. I think both dishes could have used some more spices + flavor which is why I give this place 4/5 stars, but it was still great. The two of us shared both and we even had a decent amount of leftovers to take home and enjoy later! Because of that, I found it was reasonably priced. The interior was home-y and next door, there was a even a family party going on (looked like a birthday celebration?) Would definitely come again in the future. (This place also has a lot of allergy-free options which is perfect for my other friend who is allergic to a lot, including sesame.)

This was our first time eating at the restaurant and got the lunch special. We got some vegetable samosas that we sweet & savory. My wife got the lamb vindaloo, basmati with garlic naan. She enjoyed. I got the chicken tiki masala, basmati rice and garlic naan. The chicken was tender and the sauce was good.

Amazing people who work here, I really wanted butter chicken/makhni and despite it not being on the menu I ordered from they made it for me 10/10 taste and people the food was sooo good

I have a friend that has an allergy to Canola oil and it led us to this gem of a place. Parking, like most places in New Haven, kinda stinks buuuuut there are several garages right near by. The food was great, best garlic naan I have had, the baingan bharta was extremely good as well. Staff was exceptionally friendly. 100% plan on going back!

Stopped in for lunch. The chicken korma and naan bread was fantastic. The lunch portion was good and so was the price. The service was speedy too. The restaurant was clean and relaxing. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in the area.

4.5 stars. Came here after touring Yale with my family and it was definitely worth it. We ordered off the lunch special menu, you can pick a sauce, a protein, and a bread (Naan, Garlic Naan, Tandoori Roti). For me, I chose the saag with paneer and garlic naan. The saag paneer was super flavorful and eating it with the garlic naan was so good. The lunch special also comes with rice and the quantity of rice you get was plenty. The vegetable samosas were also really good. Perfectly crispy on the outside, and inside is nice and fluffy and very well seasoned. They also come with three sauces, and I really enjoyed the tamarind sauce. However I do feel that the samosas were a bit expensive, $6 for 2, but the lunch special was around $13 which I think was really good value for the quality and quantity of food you get. The service was also really good; the waitress consistently checked up on us and even switched out our plates after we finished the samosas. I really appreciate how attentive our server was. Overall I would highly recommend giving this place a shot if you are ever around the area.

Good Indian buffet with ok service... We were roaming in Yale University and looking for an Indian restaurant. we saw this and had their buffet. They had a good option in appetizer and main course as well. We had salad-soup-chicken appetizers and curry. But seems staffs were not interested in the buffet. We kept asking for bread and we got it so late. Ignoring that, it was good buffet

My only regret and disappointment is that it's been open for seven years and this is the first time I've discovered this wonderful find in the heart of New Haven. I have been looking to come to this place for sometime, but you do need to do reservations for a Saturday night. I didn't want two weeks earlier through Resy. Full disclosure, I get a credit from American Express as part of their partnership with Resy and this is one of the locations that you can obtain that benefit from. We arrived shortly before our reservation time and waited in line as two other groups were turned away as they were all booked up for dinner until much later in the evening. Once inside, I understood as it is not a large dining area. The motive is very Indian forward with images of transportation themes from India, including bicycles on the ceiling above the tables. To start with, the drinks were some of the most flavorful options I have had in some time all with a very traditional Indian twist. I am not big on coconut or tequila, but my wife loved her coconut tequila drink. I thought the Manhattan was a big hit as the date balanced out the flavors perfectly. Even the cold drink, my daughter got reminded me of getting the same back in India. I personally was not a big fan of the mango lassi. My son got but he loved it. It was a bit thick for my taste. With regards to the food options, this reminded me of being in Manak Chok in India. For those that don't know, that is an area in western India known for its street foods and late night dining. The smells and tastes of the food would fit right in there. We started with the Dahi puri. This was a big hit for the entire family. You get six items in the order and this is a great place to start, especially if you like the balance of the street food. The Chaat Dog was also a big hit. We got the option with Lamb covered in chaat. The role was toasted perfectly and the balance of the flavors really hit well. The entire family enjoyed the chicken stuffed naan with the side of the sauce. I will admit it had a bit of a kick, so be careful for those who are not looking for spice forward foods. I have always been a big fan of Chole Bhature (chick peas and puffed whole wheat fried bread). The one here was nearly perfect as served. I was saying to my wife, that it could only be made better with a little bit of raw onion on top. As luck would have it, the waitress overheard my comment and next thing you know, we had a side of chopped onions and lime, the perfect topping for this dish. With regards to the biryani, it was flavorful, though it has never been my favorite thing. It comes with a side of raita as well. Again, that is not something I really enjoy. However, all three of my family enjoyed this immensely, and the serving was so generous, we had a decent amount of leftovers after our meal. We finished the night with some mango kulfi. It was too large scoops as you can see by the picture. This was the perfect sharing dessert for the four of us to conclude our meal. As noted above, our waitress was super attentive and very quick to bring out the dishes and drinks throughout our dinner. I will note that the price point is also great for New Haven restaurants as the complete meal with drinks for all and a dessert came out to $120 before tax and tip. This is definitely a place I would strongly recommend for any in the area. If you're not close by, book a reservation before you come down so it's not to miss out on this amazing experience. It is definitely worth a try if you want a traditional Indian street food experience. They do also have options like more traditional Punjabi style restaurants on the menu, but we focused more so on the street food options during our first visit. I will update further as I experience this place again which I expect to happen in the very near future.
