Best Indian restaurant in Ogden! Great service! Delicious foods! Wish it is located in downtown Ogden.

Pre-Covid I thought it was great, now it's seems watered down. Normally get several different dishes and all seem the same, watered down.

I waited 40 minutes for take-out recently after being told it would be 20 minutes. Had I been advised it could take that long, I would have opted for the buffet, which I have before. My lunch hour was over when I got back to my office - i had to put it in the fridge, stay hungry and have it for dinner. I wasn't even offered a water as I sat and waited for 40 minutes, I received no updates from the wait staff, and I would have cancelled my order prior to that time had I not already paid. It was expensive and unremarkable, especially compared to the exceptional Kadia Paneer from Bombay Bites I enjoyed over that weekend in Riverdale. Subsequently, I have enjoyed the buffet at Bombay Bites, which is less expensive, has much more flavor and spice and very attentive, friendly staff. Sitara India didn't have the courtesy to even to respond to a kindly worded email explaining my dissatisfaction that day since I had no time left to do so by the time I received my food that day. I will never go back here again. Being Indian and knowing what Indian food tastes like, this place was horrible. The tadka was so overwhelming with masalas that it did not have the balance of spices. It was just garam masala. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

Best Indian food in Ogden, no question! We've ordered out a ton & love how fast and yummy the food is. I've also got to the buffet with friends & was happily surprised when they refilled the dishes that were clearly our favorite and constantly brought fresh naan. But, it was just a fair spread. Thumbs up for: being super affordable. I got the chicken tikka masala for half price at what I have paid at other places in the area. And definitely no compromise of taste! You have to pay $1 extra for rice, but it came with plain naan. My criticisms: Usually I don't get my feathers ruffled over less-than-ideal service, but our server made no effort with us whatsoever. The first thing she said to us was, "what do you want?" in a short tone. This is the best Indian food place in Ogden, in my opinion. The staff is very friendly and the food is great. We usually get the food to go, but that's just because we like to watch a movie and eat at home. But the few times we have stayed to eat it's been a great experience. Once when it was slow and we couldn't decide what to get for an appetizer the server gave us some stuff to try on the house! It was really cool. My parents and I are visiting from Texas and stopped in for dinner. The place got packed in a matter of 30 minutes. We waited a good deal before getting served our food but you could tell the employees were working hard - and the food was well worth the wait! It was DELICIOUS and very reasonable. 2 chai teas, a chicken Tikka masala, veggie masala, veggie korma and spinach and onion pakora appetizer for $40 + tip. We all loved our dishes. This place is hit or miss. I hate this about it. Some times it is great and others it is floating in oil and has huge chunks of onions. WARNING: This place has been on Weber County's health department's list for weeks. I use to work right across the street, and we would frequent many local restaurants for lunch. This was by far my favorite place. The lunch buffet was cheap as dirt, but tasted amazing. I took my wife there once for dinner. She hates all foreign food. She will eat nothing but bland boring food. She was so embarrassed to tell me she loved the food and wanted to go back, she waited almost a week to tell me. I had the coconut curry mild. I would highly recommend it. We visited Sitara with our friends on Saturday, 6/9/18. After a very exciting trip to the Dinosaur Park, the kids and adults were exhausted and hungry. We got into the restaurant right at 12:30 pm (opening time). Even though they mentioned "grand buffet" in their website during weekends, they didn't have a buffet. Hence, we ordered from the menu. We ordered Puri-Chana, Tandoori Roti, Daal and Rice. Kids were welcomed by the owner with a free glass of Mango Lassi (very courteous!). However, we had to wait for our food to come for a very long time. It was worth the wait since the food was authentic and very tasty. Chana Masala had the right medley of spices and the tadka daal smelled of fresh curry leaves (so delicious that we ordered a second one). The waitress forgot our rice order and we had to remind her again. More customers started coming but there was only one waitress, who answered the phone, took orders, refilled water, served food, cleaned the table, handled the billing etc. Obviously, the service was very slow-which is why I took away one star (by the way, there was no apology offered to any customer for the slow service either). I am fairly new on the Indian Cuisine scene and I have only eating a handful of different Indian restaurants as Ogden only boasts 3. For me the best by far is Sitara India! I always start with Gobi Manchurian a spicy super flavorful fried cauliflower dish that reminds me of general Tso chicken at a Chinese restaurant. They offer beer, wine and a few cocktails, but what I love is that the beers are so cheap! You can order a yummy microbrew such as Hop Rising for $2.50 each; this is crazy to me as most restaurants usually up charge their alcohol by 3-4 x. I love that they play Indian MTv on the TV, it gives you a glance at Indian Pop Culture and makes it feel authentic without being boring. The food always superb! I do suggest that you skip the buffet and go for dinner it's really not that much more as far as cost but the quality of the food is far better for dinner. read more

I'm starting to become a regular here for dinner. The flavor on the chicken tikka masala dosa is wonderful. The vegetable pakora with the chutneys is also very delicious. Everything I've ordered here as at a minimum been good and some items are so full of flavor that it's hard to break the habit of only ordering them. The service, on the other hand, is a bit odd. I have yet to have everyone at the tables food arrive at the same time. The entrees can be anywhere from a couple minutes to 10 apart. Also, I once had a server serve a very flat, watered down, rum and Coke. The explanation was that they were having problems with the Coke coming out carbonated. I'm not sure why this wasn't mentioned when I ordered the drink. I haven't tried the lunch buffet. I'm not a fan of the buffet, so I doubt I'd try it. But, for dinner the offerings are good even if the service can be off. read more

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the Hill Air Force Base area. Nada, our server was so nice, attentive, and pleasant. My daughter and I ordered the tandoori paneer, which was amazingly flavorful and a good portion. We also ordered the chicken tikka masala (one of my staple favorites of Indian food), the spring dosa (incredible tasting), and the rasmalai, which was ok. There was a little too much cardamom in it and it was served warm ( I am used to this desert served cold). I would love to try the buffet, but when we went yesterday, we missed it and decided to return today (no buffet on the weekends). We will definitely be back when I visit Utah again. The owner even came out to see how the service was. I have been looking for a place to by paneer in The Hill Air Force Base area, but there are none. The owner stated that he would be happy to sell is some paneer only to take home This is definitely a 5 star experience! read more

This is the BEST INDIAN restaurant in Northern Utah. DELICIOUS food. The flavors are mouthwatering and I always leave satisfied. My father has traveled all over the Middle East and this is also one of his favorite places. He was so surprised they had Biryani. Being a vegetarian and married to an omnivore, it's a great place for our dates. Their onion kulcha is amazing, their appetizers and my husband always gets the lamb. It never disappoints. The prices are VERY reasonable too. They work hard and get slammed but are always welcoming to new customers!! One night, I ordered take out around 8pm, not knowing they were slammed, and it wasn't ready till after closing. They stayed 15 minutes later than closing to give us our take out order. I felt terrible.. But they did it with a smile and they deserved every tip. Come here with your business! You won't be disappointed. It's authentic and worth it! Thanks Sitara India! I arrived with my two small children (aged 2 and 4) and asked if they had dosas. They did not have the batter on hand, so they gave my kids each a strawberry lassi for free! Looks can be deceiving. We were headed to Weber State for a performance and were looking for a place to eat close by that wasn't a fast food chain. The reviews of Sitara made it seem worth a try. Upon entering, my expectations were pretty low. The place is a bit grubby, tables hadn't been cleared, and the one waiter seemed very harried. It was also clear that people had been waiting for a while to get their food because more than one table asked for to-go containers as soon as their food arrived. We were also in a bit of a hurry and this made me nervous, but we went ahead and ordered. I've eaten at Indian restaurants in London and New York and was with a friend from Pakistan, so we were not afraid to go beyond the recommended chicken tikka masala. We ordered yellow dal, lamb saag, and bhindi masala, in addition to the chicken. Truthfully, the chicken tikka masala was my least favorite. The other three were delicious! My pet peeve at Indian restaurants is when every dish tastes as if it was cooked in the same sauce. This was not the case at all at Sitara. The bhindi masala is okra with tomatoes, green peppers, onion, and herbs. I was concerned that it would be frozen okra that was slimy and mushy. Instead it was fresh and green, a bit crunchy, with a tasty sauce that was mostly herbs and spices, and minimal tomato. The lamb saag was also a pleasant surprise. Often saag dishes are swimming in cream, instead this dish was mostly spinach and tender lamb, so the flavors really stood out. The yellow dal was also excellent, not thin and watery or bland, rather full of rich flavor, thick and full of herbs and spices. I would return to Sitara Indian, but only if I'm not in a hurry. read more

We came for the buffet and we weren't disappointed. I would say you get a great selection for $9.99 on a Saturday. The only Indian restaurant I can compare it to is Bombay in SLC (the only other that I've had and they are excellent) but I still am surprised at how good this was for the price. First off, we were told curbside would be one hour and a half, but we thought, ok. Then I arrived one hour and forty minutes later and waited for another 15 mins before being told they were STILL making the naan and it would be another 10-12 minutes, so I just asked to have the naan removed from the order, then when I got home I discovered they forgot to add 3 other items of my order! My daughter and I have eaten here about a dozen times. I take one of her friends here also for their vegetarian offerings. Also, I have eaten here several times by myself. I LOVE IT!!! My personal favorites are the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Korma. Always clean, fast & friendly service and above all excellent food at reasonable prices. Service has been notoriously slow but much improved over the last 6 months. **** UPDATE 2/18 ***** Busy as it was a Friday evening. Prompt service for water, drinks, and taking our order. She wasn't upselling anything like a side of rice or garlic naan since was she was in a rush, but we asked for those anyway. Food was prompt. Both dishes were amazing in taste but also both were measurably hotter than we'd expected here. We knew going into it that a 'medium' is not always a 'medium' but this seemed to be well on the hot side of our expected tolerance. It didn't render it inedible but my wife didn't enjoy hers much because of it. Overall - service is improving greatly. Variance in spiciness of the food is a known issue. Quality and flavor are usually right on, but Monday's "hot" may not be any hotter than Tuesday's "medium". read more

Environment: - This place is located in a strip mall type of building. The interior was clean and comfortable. The seating space is very small however so on busy nights there is a wait. The overall ambiance is ok, there are authentic decorations here and there. It looks a little on the cheap side but like I said before it is clean and neat which is more important to me than decorations. Drinks: - They had a beer, wine and your regular beverage choices for a reasonable price Food: - Not a fan on Indian food usually, however this place won me over. I ordered an Indian crepe filled with potatoes and veggies and some side sauce. It was HUGE!!! literally the size of my forearm. The food was very flavorful and bold in flavor, the sauce gave it the extra spicy kick the the meal was missing on its own. Service: -this is the only complaint I have about this place and the reason it only got 3 stars. The menu is pretty much in Indian with some dishes that have explanations and some that don't. Our waitress was completely not helpful and had a pretty blatant attitude when I was asking about the dishes and what they were. She did not come and check on our table until we were ready to check out. The whole time she was serving us she was rather abrupt and rude. Price: - So for the forearm size crepe I only paid $6.00 dollars, this place is awesome when it comes to the amount and quality of food that you get for the price. For those of you who posted bad reviews about this place, if you had the buffet, perhaps you should have checked out the buffet before you even ordered because you can do that you know. That being said I did go in and have the buffet, yes I checked it out first, around 2:30 in the afternoon. There was absolutely no customers in the entire restaurant but the buffet was stocked -no, it wasn't overflowing - but there was plenty and the food was hot and very tasty. I like spicier food so I could understand where a few people might be upset about the amount of heat in the buffet, but I found it under spicy and just perfect for mild Indian food. So why only three stars? While there is a TV there it was off - not that I need a television to eat, but it was like eating in a tomb, too quiet - so music or something would have been nice. I was not really greeted I asked if the buffet was open and the young man said, "Yes, help yourself." But he was also playing on his phone the entire time. No one came up and asked if I needed anything & I had to ask for napkins as there were none at the buffet and none on the tables. I did have water and I didn't need to have it filled, so I cannot speak to that. I can say that the place is a bit depressing and needs a little bit of a facelift, there are cleaning supplies showing, bucket, mops and such. Boxes of assorted "stuff" thrown on top of the soda machine and things like that -it's just weary and doesn't look like anyone has a passion for this business at all. Adding all that together with as quiet & uncaring as it was was, I would suggest Sitara India for take-out, that way you could go through the buffet, get what you want, then go eat in a location that is more pleasant. I usually tip 20% but I left no tip this time as I served myself, sat myself, and I walked myself up to the counter to pay for my bill so they are missing a bet there as I am sure I'm not the only one that does not tip them when they are so "absent." read more

I really wish I could leave a positive review for this restaurant. I really liked the old Sitara, and the dining experience a few years ago was consistently good. Friday (11-06-2015), was my first time back to Sitara since they reopened their Ogden location. I called and placed a take out order and I asked some basic questions about the menu, but the employee told me she had only ever tried one one thing from the menu (chicken tikka masala) and that she didn't know much about any of the other dishes. I ended up ordering the chicken lahori tikka and chicken tikka masala. I was told the order would be ready in 30 to 40 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant 50 minutes later and was told that my order wasn't ready yet. Five minutes later the waiter came and told me that they couldn't make what I had ordered so he was going to give me something else that was "very good" and that I would like it. After waiting another 10 minutes my order was finally ready. I quickly paid for my order without checking it first and headed home. Check out the pic, but to say the least I was disappointed. The "very good" alternative dish was burnt, dried out tandoori chicken. On a bit of a positive note though, the chicken tikka masala was decent albeit forgettable. I hope my experience was a fluke, but it'll be hard to take a chance on this place again. read more

This place used to be my go-to Indian restaurant, especially for the lunch buffet. However, the last few times I've been here, the selections were few, and many pans were empty. Service is terrible; no one greeted me; no one seated me. In fact at the noon rush there were no staff in the dining room! I waited 10 minutes before someone brought me water - and he was on his phone. Did not take my order! Empty pans stayed empty. What was left was a sad, burnt tandoori chicken leg. This will be my last time here. Don't waste your time or money. read more
