Randomly stumbled on this place and was pleasantly surprised. The food is awesome and flavorful. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the lamb coconut curry, both were delicious and some of the best I've had, and I've tried a lot of Indian restaurants in Utah. Their coffee is also very delicious and comes in your own little pot enough for 3 cups. Indian food -- and good Indian food at that -- has often been a little pricey for its value in Utah. My guess is because it's a niche cuisine for the predominant culture. Sitara dances past the common belly-undulating schtick and goes right for delectable, authentic-tasting Indian food at a terrific price. The real deal here is the buffet, where there are always new and fresh dishes every day, it seems, depending on the season. For $8 or so you will get largely vegetarian dishes, but a couple chicken or lamb masalas or curries from which you can also choose. Wrap it all up in na'an bread served fresh and hot to your table. There's a menu, too, from which you can order, whether for your full meal or for extras not on the buffet -- like a potato or meat stuffed bread paratha, samosa dumplings, or a mango lassi to drink. (That said, the buffet is well rounded, delicious, filling, and tremendous quality for the price.) Location could be a bit better, and it's not uncommon for lunch to be very busy. (It's an amazing choice for a Sunday lunch.) That said, it is WONDERFUL to see a restaurant is this area of Ogden that seems to be staying busy and doing well. I have ordered food there for more than four years. One day fairly recently I placed an order for delivery and once I Opened it to eat it, I realized that the order was wrong and was not at all appealing. I called them back to complain and they came back to refund my money but would not replace my order. So, I decide to give them another shot and placed an order for carry-out. When I arrived I said I was there to pick up my order and paid for it. A woman walked out with my food, saw who I was and refused service to me. She approached me and said "we will not serve you" but did not elaborate - I was kinda stunned and confused and had to ask for my money back. Aminute later I re-entered the restaurant with my camera rolling to get some sort of record of what had just happened and was forcefully pushed out the door (before I had even opened it completely) by a man who said "we don't serve Arabs" - I asked him to keep his hands off of me but he kept at it (this is all on camera, by the way, which was shown to the police later on when this story gets much worse) I leave to go back to work and after work return home. I am having a few friends over for a relaxing night smoking some hookah. Next thing we know this car pulls up in our driveway and six or so guys get out of a car (including the son of the owner of Sitara) and began a fight with me. They smashes the hookah (which was brand new, by the way) and began attacking us by throwing beer bottles, etc. This chaos caused my dog to run away, for the record. We found him eventually, but still.. So my roommate goes out looks for the dog and apparently one of these guys has stayed behind and hidden in my backyard, once my roommate was gone he came out from the backyard and threw a retaining wall stone at me. Naturally I had to get the police involved, with CSI photographing the damage done to my property and all of my injuries. I also noticed that my wallet, watch and cell phone was missing after they had left. Roughly 10 minutes after the police left my house, that same group of people (plus an extra couple of people) showed up AGAIN - I walked outside and told them I had already called the police again and that they were on their way back at which point they hopped in their car and took off. The police are actively working the case and say they will put a detective on it. I will be seeking retribution from Sitara through all legal means possible. So in closing, I could not recommend Sitara strongly enough if your goal is be physically assaulted and followed back home to have your property destroyed, make your dog run away, and leave you terrified in your own home, all because you wanted to get some lunch. read more

Oh, this was painful. I mean actual pain. My gut was extremely displeased shortly after eating here. Unfortunately, I decided to give the buffet a shot so that I could try several of their dishes. Everything was terribly overcooked, some things that should have had a crunchy breading were mushier than snow cones on a hot summer's day. The naan was fairly decent at least and the prices were pretty good. But my stomach forbids me to ever visit this place again. This place is great. Every Christmas eve we bring this home for an authentic Indian feast. The portions are also incredible because the whole family gets 2 or 3 meals from an order of 60ish bucks. The food is delicious, the dining room is cramped and dismal, and the service and wait times for food are appalling. Lunch buffet is hit-and-miss. After too many bad dine-in experiences, this is strictly a carry out place for me. But--be prepared to wait a while for that too--plan accordingly. I do not dole out five-star reviews lightly. Weekend lunch buffet for six bucks?! The service is fast and friendly, the lamb korma is to die for, and the chicken tikka masala dosa is fantastic. I wish I had taken a picture of my Dosa before I destroyed it, although it's fair to say we destroyed each other. Unlike every other curry place I've been to in Utah, when you order it "hot," they assume you mean it. They don't use that word lightly, either. They will season to your order, though. Default on the buffet is medium. I find any excuse to visit Sitara. Go therefore and do thou likewise. read more

My husband and I took our son to see a movie the day people started quarantining themselves (back when it took a minute to realize how serious this COVID business was) and the restaurant was almost empty. The staff was friendly and so kind about us having a slightly impatient 3 year old. Because we were starting to feel uncertain about being out and about and were considering leaving, the waitress/hostess kindly brought my son a free mango coconut drink and told us we could take our time and they would keep everything extra sanitary. We were so impressed with her. The food itself was alright (I got a Chicken Vindaloo, and my husband something similar) but it's the kind of Indian I think I could make at home. There is usually a chicken curry dish, white rice, lemon rice, a couple of veggie dishes, and naan. The flavors are dot on, if you want some spice added you can request some hot sauce. Generally, the food is OK. It's fresh, tasty and somewhat authentic, however the lassis are less than authentic. My sweet lassi today was nothing more than milk blended with a little bit of yogurt and sugar to yield a frothy drink. Not a real lassi. Orders online which was convenient. I do wish they offered a larger heat scale. Most of the menu items seemed only to come in medium and spicy. It would be really nice if there was a mild option. The basic flavors are there, but the flavor profile is rather shallow. I ordered an entree for each of my party of three to go and am quite disappointed that upon arrive ing to our hotel we found that the rice was placed into two go boxes, one single serving size and one large go box with two servings. This review pretty much comes right down to service and location presentation. The buffet trays were practically empty with a good portion of the food spilled on the counter and floor the entire hour we spent in the restaurant. They didn't seem to tend the area often enough. Now for the good stuff: The food ordered off of the menu tasted great and there was plenty of it. The wait times were fine and beverages were refilled quickly. They offer several levels of spice and when they say very hot/spicy they mean it. I love a good food sweat! All meals are very reasonably priced. I'd recommend this place for a quick easy meal ordered off of the menu. read more

The food was okay, adequately seasoned, not terrible, which might get 4 stars, but the buffet was the stingiest I've ever seen. Really restricted to just a couple entrees, some tandoori chicken, vegetable, naan. I've never seen a smaller buffet in an Indian restaurant. When we walked in they told us to go get plates and then after we sat down tossed some paper napkins in the middle of the table. At least the silverware wasn't plastic. I really do love the food here they have reasonable prices. The paneer is delicious for vegetarian options. I always love to order the Indian chai which will give you energy for days. The samosas are the bomb.com and always gotta order some naan specifically the garlic naan. Although I like the buffet, my only gripe is they struggle to keep a steady hot temperature which makes me nervous about food safety. I drive by this place nearly every day and recently I decided to give it a try. Oh man, I am glad I did! This was my first experience with Indian food and I was a little apprehensive. I got a chicken tikka salad and it was okay. The chicken was delicious, but the salad was just okay. "Give it another try" I thought. I ordered the chicken tikka masala but tonight's was somehow a totally different recipe that was bright orange with no flavor. And the chicken didn't even seem like chicken - just some really tendon-y nightmare. And for whatever reason, they have re-hired that super loud, aggressive, lazy blonde lady. This place has some pretty darn good Indian food. They just recently raised their prices, which is lame, but the curry is worth it. Thumbs to the up. And the curry "temperatures" (AKA - Mild, Medium, Hot) actually are true gauges of the spiciness of the food. And I like integrity. If you are ordering take out, make sure to call it in. Otherwise you'll be waiting 20-30 min for your food. The mood lighting in the place is low, so it's a nice place to go for a good meal and a nice conversation in your regular clothes, or a good place to go on a casual date, especially a blind date if you just want to feel the other person out in a classy, but not so formal setting. Just recently went here with my fiance on his midtour leave from Afghanistan and the waitress brought us delicious homemade ice cream in the pistachio and mango flavors. And it was good. I almost couldn't walk out of the place because I was so stuffed, and the owner is awesome. He helps cook the food and 90% of the time will come out and ask you how you like the food. I definitely frequent this place. We went in well before 1pm... and had to scrape what we could from the limited vegetarian options. Waited for the staff to refill the buffet but that never happened. Even asked the lady coming out of the kitchen "will there be anymore coming out?" And she replied with a nod of yes.... after waiting and watching the family behind us get served individual dishes but the buffet ignored, we were a bit confused. Trying to get water refilled doesn't happen. So we just brought in our own bottled water, but nobody noticed as they're too busy informing customers the buffet closes soon(an hour before its stated to close). No thanks Sitara. read more

It is always exciting to be surprised on a culinary level in Ogden. Sitara India did not disappoint. This place offers northern and southern India food. They offer a lunch buffet seven days a week for $7.99. The just opened this August. Located in a depressing-ass strip mall at Harrison and 36th, Sitara India is clean and offers fresh, delicious food. Service is very friendly. If you go on Sundays, Richard will be your super nice waiter. The naan is amazing and I recommend the meal-in-itself green peas pulav and the sweet and delicious navratan khorma! I LOVE this place. I wish I could go here every day. The buffet is the absolute best. It's $6.99 on weekdays and $4.99 on Sundays. The food is delicious. The service is great. The atmosphere isn't the best, but the food is so good and so well priced that I don't even care. It's so good. Great options for vegetarians. Sitara got it all wrong when they reopened this location. If you are a fan of being told to hold on while your server answers the phone during the middle of your order, or having the same person answer his cell phone while you are trying to pay, then you might be able to overlook the poor service and appreciate the food. But, don't order the food spicy because you aren't going to have your water refilled at all during your hour spent at Sitara. My wife and I were very excited that they had reopened this location because it's much closer to our home than their Layton location. However, we'll probably drive out of our way to go to the Layton location after our recent experience. This is assuming that we don't decide to stop in at one of the competing Indian food establishments along the way. read more
