Great spot in a small strip in Trumbull. Lots of indoor seating and a huge bar area. There is a nice patio area to eat outside and it's dog friendly :) Food is priced great and was delicious. So, you know how you go to a restaurant, like it, but the second time is not as good as the first? That is definitely NOT the case here! We returned, and just to double check, I ordered the same meal as the last time. Equally as good, and the service is as superlative as the first time. Our server apologized in advance in case her service was not excellent (which it was) as it was her first week there. Well, you would never have known that. Her service was as good as the food, which both were first-rate. Went a third time on Labor Day weekend, and the place just gets better and better. You might think that service and food suffer on holidays, as it does at some establishments, but you would be wrong. Sitting Duck goes from strength to strength, and the manager must be cloned, because he seemingly is everywhere, making sure everything is excellent. We plan to return often. read more

We are fans of Sitting Duck and usually have good experiences. My family has been to the restaurant numerous times and we have supported the Trumbull location as one of our local businesses throughout these challenging times these past few months. Tonight we ordered 7 meals to go for my daughter's birthday. 2 of the salads did not come with dressing so I had to go back and pick it up. I understand, accidents happen. But since I had to leave I couldn't eat with my family for my daughter's birthday and my food was cold when I returned. Also, my and my son's burgers were charred around the edges. The food was OK and the server was great so don't get me wrong; however, my major complaint is the seating situation. We called to make a reservation for thirteen people and were told we would be seated outside -- OK, fine, that's not a problem. When we get there... the staff arranged three tables for us ON THE SIDEWALK. This wouldn't have been an issue if the restaurant was completely inundated with customers, but this wasn't even close to the case. The restaurant's designated, gated patio space was COMPLETELY empty. So instead of seating us within the bounds of the physical restaurant... our entire party was seated outside on a sidewalk decidedly separate from the rest of the restaurant on a peninsula poking out into the parking lot. While there were heaters placed on the designated patio, we sat away from the venue in the cold 61 degree weather in the drizzling rain. Thankfully they gave us umbrellas, though. I'm honestly just so confused about the seating arrangement and why this even happened. We're very fond of the Oxford location and have never had an issue, but the whole experience at this place was weird and certainly off-putting for our party. read more

I've been going to the Sitting Duck since it opened and have always enjoyed the food and service. My all time favorite are the pretzel bites. Just forewarning people, I ate there recently and was really disappointed when my order came and the portion size was half of what it used to be. There we're only 4 pieces on the plate, and the price was not adjusted to reflect the smaller portion. I spoke to the staff about it and was told, "the decision came down from Corporate to cut the number of pieces in half and price is the same". Really, why? Everyone I know loves the pretzels and now all of a sudden, Corporate decides let's charge the same but give them less food. Is there a shortage on the ingredients? and don't blame COVID for this change. I think it's called greed. read more

My wife and I have been to Sitting Duck Restaurants in Oxford and Trumbull on a number of occasions and have always had excellent meals and service. The owner of the Sitting Duck is a good man and he has set high standards for his restaurants. Unfortunately, those standards were not met in any way when we recently had dinner at the Sitting Duck Restaurant in Trumbull on a Tuesday night. The server was a nice young woman, but her performance left a lot to be desired. The restaurant was not busy, but still the service was extremely slow. I ordered a draft beer and was disappointed when it arrived with no head and not completely filled. That's one of my pet peeves. The remnants of the head were visible, which means that the draft sat on the bar for a while, and that is the server's fault. Strike one. The Simple Salads my wife and I ordered were very good, but I asked for extra dressing when we placed the orders, which I did not get, and when I asked for more when the salad was delivered, it took forever to get it. Of course, that resulted in our entrees coming about 30 seconds after I got the additional dressing. I hate it when courses are piled on top of each other. Strike two. But the worst was yet to come. My wife's entree was acceptable, but not great. Mine was a disaster. I ordered the fish and chips. The Sitting Duck used to give you two large pieces of fish, but the size of them has shrunk considerably. That is no doubt a product of Bidenflation, but disappointing nonetheless. The batter of the fish was soggy, not crisp like it should be, which means either that the fish was not left in the oil long enough or that the oil was not hot enough. The fish was good quality, so I did not send it back. On the other hand the sweet potato fries were a total disaster. They were dark, soggy and limp, and absolutely disgusting in the way they looked. That is on the kitchen, for cooking and plating them that way, but also on the server, as it was totally obvious from the presentation that they were unacceptable. They were either cooked earlier and then reheated, or the oil was not hot enough. I immediately sent them back. They were replaced a few minutes later by fries that were crisp, but most of them were burnt. That means that either the oil was now too hot or they were left in the oil too long. I ate a few and left the rest. Strike 3. The manager who was on duty appeared glued to the platform where the food is placed by the kitchen staff and picked up by the servers, which means he saw what was being served and let it be served. He also never came over despite the fact that we had communicated several complaints to the server. Strike 4 - oh wait - there is no Strike 4, they already struck out! In closing, it may be that since Monday and Tuesday nights are typically slow, the Sitting Duck may have had the B team working. That is no excuse, of course, and any line cook should be able to cook fried food properly and any server should be able to provide good service, at the bare minimum. Hopefully, what we experienced was an aberration, but it will not return to the Sitting Duck unless and until we are convinced that something like this will not happen again. read more

My husband and I went for lunch on 9/19/18 at 12:45. There were customers leaving from the outside terrace and we tried to enter from the double doors in the front. Ordered takeout and everything was pretty much terrible. I won't order again. Buffalo wings tasted undercooked and had too much fat on them. The blue cheese for the wings was awful. Live music on Monday's! The service isn't the best our drinks ran dry.... The first time I went here right when it first opened and I was not that pleased. Nothing to write home about... I went back last week and it was soon much better then the time before. I don know if I didn't get the right thing but the food was so much better when I went back. Food was very good. Worst experience I have had at the Sitting Duck so far. I'll give you 2 stars because the call taker was nice. Normally I will go there to eat, but tonight I decided to take it home. Mind you I only live 1 mile away. So I called in my order and talked to a young lady that was very helpful, a little hard to hear do to the nose in the back round. She told me it would be 25 minute for my order. So I got there with 5 minutes to spare. My order was sitting on the bar waiting. So I paid and drove home. (1 mile) Opened everything up and it was all ice cold. So now onto the food. I order the the Twin Lobster rolls @ $21.99. I know lobster isn't cheap, but for the amount of meat there was, it was a rip off. So me being me and being in the culinary field, I decided to weight out the lobster meat. 6oz of Lobster meat stuffed into two hotdog rolls. You didn't even toast the roll. Your menu says the lobster is soak in butter CT style. There wasn't any butter on the sandwich or in the bag. So I had to melt my own, which was better then what I would of gotten from you. Let's move onto the Beef Tips serve with a Black Pepper Aoili @ $11.99. That's a fair price, but you sauce tasted like straight mayo. There was no spice to it, never even tasted any black pepper nor did I see any in it. Now onto the last thing we got, the Italian Parkes Parmesan wings @ $9.99 for 8. Most passes give 10 or 12 for that price. That's a little high for 8 and the favor sucked. There is no other way to say it. There was nothing Italian about those wings. You can't taste any Parmesan at all. You should of called then plain wings or lack of taste wings. This is by far my worst experience ever at the Sitting Duck. Came here on a Saturday night after hearing about this place from a family member. I ordered the Baby Wedge salad with chicken. I am picky about my food, and I eat gluten free as much as possible, and I have to say, they did an exceptional job with the salad. I like the atmosphere here. I will definitely come back. I was really excited when this place first opened because it is literally walking distance from my boyfriend's house and thought it would be a great place to go when we didn't feel like putting up with evening traffic. I've tried this place four times and haven't had a great experience at all. Very limited menu; 6-8 entrees, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Appetizers limited as well. This is a good place if you wanna stop in for happy hour drinks and food after work. Service here is spotty and minimally attentive. One time we waited 45 mins for our apps and dinner to come only to find out they came out at the same time on a table that barely fit everything. Only a bar counter, a few booths and some tables on the side here that seat two people. Each time I came here, I got a bleu cheese burger either with fries or side salad. Fries have been different (sizes and cuts) each time I have been here. Last time I tried them, they were pretty good. Burger was a nice hefty size and didn't have much bleu cheese but good, crispy bacon on top. Burger was super salty and super charred (and not in a good way) on the outside. Asked for medium (some pink inside) and it came out well done each time. Side salad that comes with it has good dressing but the greens are too big and need to be cut up to be enjoyed. Last time I came in, I used the ladies' room and the lock on the door was broken and left on the sink. The other stall was a handicapped stall. read more

Start with the bad. The FOOD. The meatloaf lacked meat. it was gross. mash and loaf without veggies or bread. I also ordered chicken BTLA . Avacado ? I didn't taste it. The chicken was dry. The only thing good about this sandwich was the bacon. the fries tasted like they were frozen . I am not a fan of shoe string fries but these were blah. The bang bang shrimp were ok. The bar tender let me test different wines before I finally decided on one! We both ordered salads- I got the goat cheese one with chicken and she got the Asian one.
