Six Ping appears to be a local Chinese bakery chain in the Bellaire district of Houston. There is an excellent variety of really large fresh looking buns, both sweet & savory, in the $2-3 range. They are perfectly balanced in a very Chinese way, without being overly sweet or rich, but still are quite filling. This is not the place to come for really upscale or "extra" tasting dough, it's more simple yet satisfying. I thought the buns were all delicious. I recommend getting anything with custard filling. Keep in mind there's a $10 minimum if you want to pay with card, otherwise just bring cash. read more

One of the better and more Innovative bakeries in Chinatown Houston with all kinds of delights. Sometimes they sell homemade Mochi sweets which are so chewy and delicious and drive me crazy. They have massive size macarons which I don't like very much. But they have a lot of other good stuff here and you should check them out. Their custard tart is probably my favorite item. I've been to two locations many times - one is in Dynasty Plaza next to Mala and the other one is over in dunhuang which is newer I think. Small shop with a great assortment of asian baked goods. The japanese cheesecake is only a couple bucks and fluffy, properly portioned, and delectable. Gather up a few rolls, and present them at the counter to pay. Parking is limited directly in front of the establishment, but the shopping area is pretty large even has a parking garage attached so you won't have too much trouble finding a spot as long as you're willing to walk a few minutes. read more

The Six Ping empire strikes again. They have multiple locations, and are consistent for each location. The pineapple tarts are the best goods you can get from Six Ping. Most of the breads are nothing special, the pineapple buns leave something to be desired, and the egg tarts are okay. The macarons make great souvenirs, but just look good. I really like this bakery they have a great selection of both sweet and savory bread. Some of the bread have super cute shapes with great flavors, the bear chocolate mousse is delicious! in the other hand the blackberry felt short, I think it depends on your personal taste. I've actually never ordered cake here before, but I really like this location more than the other one! For some reason the breads and the cakes are baked better. We called in a cake order on Thursday night for an afternoon Saturday pickup, and it was already done when we got there. The process to get a cake is super quick and I like it! We bought this cake for my mom's birthday and she loved this cake with a passion. I would definitely come back and order more birthday cakes! What we ordered: Pandan Cake w Durian and Egg Pudding Filling - 5/5 Usually people don't like durian. It's a taste that you have to be comfortable with. If you do like it, this place makes the best durian cakes. It's not totally overbearing and the egg pudding compliments it amazingly. I have been coming here for years for some of the best baked goods, cakes, and desserts but realized I've never written a review that is well deserved. I dropped in on Saturday to pick up a birthday cake and saw the durian tart that I had to try. The vanilla cake with fruit and pudding filling and almond coating was fluffy, light, and perfect. I don't like overly sweet cakes such as those with fondant. This cake is exactly to my liking. I bought it for a group of five. The birthday girl finished it the next day with her two children! I was confused by the durian tart because I really couldn't smell the pungent smell like all durians have. That was until I cut into the tart. It was filled with the durian fruit and rested on a thin, soft cake layer. The outside dome is a vanilla mouse with a hint of durian flavoring. The crispy tart at the bottom outside is crumbly like a pie crust. This is my new favorite durian dessert in Chinatown Houston! I highly recommend for those that like durian. A friend told me this was the best bakery they had in Houston so I decided to try them out! I'm usually a Korean bakery girl and this was more Chinese style bakery with pork floss, sugary cookies and also offered to go coffees. I tried their Japanese cheesecake mini which was the best one I had so far! It was more on the wetter side? But it was so moist and so fluffy! I also had their custard bun and I have to say it was so good! Not cheap vanilla custard, but it was Harty and not too sweet! I also got some almond cookies and... the chocolate one straight up tasted like chalk lol... like the cheap cookie in the tin your grandma has in the house that nobody really eats? Their other almond cookie with a sugar coating was a lot better! They also have animal shape bread that was super cute and pastries with the hotdog. Very good cakes. I got the mango cake for a birthday party and everyone loved it. Very well decorated also. I also got the tiramisu cake but its not the normal tiramisu you would expect..it was mixed on people liking it or not. Both cakes were beautiful. I would highly recommend the mango though! These two cakes were the small size and they said would feed 8 people each but it actually was larger than expected and feeds alot more than that. read more

Ive been visiting this bakery since I was a kid, so it saddens me to update this review to a 1 star. Wtf happened? Prices are noticeably higher (understandable) but the quality has gone down. I took a chance on this pudding bread that I can't believe they sell. Have they ever taste tested it? It's just a pudding island surrounded by tasteless and dry bread. The two textures were completely incompatible. It was clearly stale and not baked fresh that day. Same issue with the pork floss green onion bread. There's also a food safety concern because they keep the breads sitting at room temp, and many of them contain custard and cream fillings. It's warm in Houston even in the winter time, y'all. I know this is common practice for Chinese bakeries, but presumably they're not storing them for over 12 hours without refrigeration? I'm switching to kamalan from now on. I believe their policy is to never ever sell old bread. read more

This is my go-to bakery! It you are ever in the area you should certainly stop by and grab a treat. Not everything is super sweet, they have so savory breads as well but no matter what I have tried from this Six Ping, it has always been great. I wish I had the words to describe how amazing the Mango cake is but there are really no words that can sum it up, it literally had me speechless. I typically will buy a package or two of almond cookies - which are thin, crispy, light, and delicious - along with an assortment of sweet buns, which I will often have for breakfast for the next few days. Taiwanese bakeries might not be in abundance anywhere in the US, but it's nice to know there is an option in HTown. The space might not be big enough to fit a bed but the baked goods are quality enough to where there is a crowd here at all hours of the day. Given the endless variety, reasonable prices, quality service, and addicting bakery aroma, Six Ping gets no less than five stars. One thing that stands out is their customized cakes. From Hello Kitty to traditional fruit cakes, they work perfectly in the clutch for special occasions. From what I've been able to sample, the mango delight lives up to the hype and the coffee flavored cakes are worthy for a repeat. They do customizations on the spot and will attempt to create a cake design if you give them 48 hours notice and a picture. Shout out to whoever created the totoro face cake. Really impressive (and dare I say cute) decorations. A visit to Six Ping isn't complete without a mini bun run. This includes everything from their crab pastries (in the shape of a crab) to the pineapple and filled buns. It might not be the best I've ever had, but big kudos to the fact they have Taiwanese egg tarts. Flakey, not too sweet, plenty of bite, and best when fresh out of the oven. This lot in particular is for some reason super busy all the time. Might be best to drop someone else off to do the shopping or risk having to circle the rows in hopes of finding a place to park. Super cute and clean Chinese bakery. It draws you in as you sit and eat at Don's cafe. After a good banh mi I headed to Six Ping. We found friendly staff in a tiny bakery. The place looks quite new and everything was laid out on shelves crammed in every corner of the store. There were even some refrigerated items. My husband LOVES his thin sliver like almond cookies. He even got the last bag that day! We got a few other items and everything was good. I was especially impressed at how friendly the staff were to my extremely difficult mother. My white mom was raised in rural Minnesota, and you'd think after marrying a Japanese man that anything Asian wouldn't seem like a novelty but it still does. She had to totally harass the bakery staff, but they smiled through the whole thing. My mom being the pushy American that she is even cut in line (sorry ladies who were there, we tried to stop her, but she's often an unstoppable force). Good baked goods and dealing with difficult customers with grace and a smile was wonderful. 4 stars to them! read more

I'm a crazy whip cream lover therefore I love this place for their cakes like no other!!! I have purchased many cakes now from this place and OMG, I'm in love. I used to get my cakes from jungle cafe when they were good and stationed at their original spot in Diho center but since their move and cocky- ness, they've gone sour. Six Ping definitely puts the Ding (light) in my day. Their cake designs are so adorable, you don't even want to eat it or you really really do want to eat it all up. With various cake selections and fruit stuffing, you really can't go wrong. It's fluffy, light, and not too airy. They put a thick layer of light whip cream but I could just eat the whip cream alone. :P You can order a cake in advance but they highly request you pay in advance and CASH only!! remember is is located in the midst of Chinatown bellaire. I have gone by to grab a cake right off the shelf as a last minute idea so there is always something in stock. All the cakes I've shared, the guests just "ooh" and " ahh" over. The bear is a favorite, the blue cat is a shocker, and the hello kitty is just to adore over...and ALL delicious to devour. The cakes can cost about $30 even. They do have other freshly baked pastries in fun shapes such as crabs and bears. A nice place to do a quick stop for a snack. There are plenty of goodies in this bakery including cakes, buns, bread, pastries, and coffee! The place is clean and welcoming and has a nice aroma. The price is not bad either for their goods. The buns are quite enormous although some seem to have small filling to bun ratio. The coffee cream cookies were to die for but at $3 a bag, they are just a little steep for me. The pandan sponge cake was just the way it should be and enjoyable. I did not see any flaky crust egg tarts and only cookie crust, so I did not bother. I'm hoping they will have flaky crust ones sometime. They also post a schedule of when specific buns are made and the times they are available. Pretty neat bakery to grab some goods to go! read more

This is truly a good find. Ever since I got to Houston we've tried a few barriers from 85 degrees and la patisserie none has been better than six ping in quality, service and over selection and taste. On my birthday we always have gotten the same thing which is the mango cake with mango mousse and custard. These are fresh mangoes which they only buy in season throughout the summer. On other occasions I would buy various flavors like taro, durian, even vanilla custard and they are all good. The frosty is always light and airy and doesn't feel like you've eaten a brick like at American bakeries. They're other treats and buns are also good and usually have sales at the end of the day to rid of their stock because they don't sell day old products. Asian bakeries are the best - the buttery bread, the unique toppings, the combination of sweet and savory, the low prices, and the freshness and right out of the oven steam that fills the bread packaging. You got to go in and experience the Asian moms piling on bread onto a tray like an apocalypse is about to happen. Except they come on a weekly / daily basis because their families legitimately finish that much bread. As a result, you should come here before 2 PM (11 AM for the best selection) in order to beat the Asian moms. I'm a big fan of the bread here and tend to prefer the salty breads. Here are some items I would get: -Green Onion with Pork Sung Roll (my favorite) -Cheesy Garlic Bread -Football Shaped Sweet Bread -Ham/Corn/Pork Sung/Green Onion Bread But really everything here is pretty good so just take a look and see what you like. I always loved going to these bakeries with my mother when I was a kid. There are a few things I love about Chinese bakeries. The sweets are not overly sugary, bean and taro paste galore, and the of aroma fresh bread. Everything looked appealing to the eyes and teased the nose. Each item is nestled in a plastic sleeve. After much deliberating, I left with three items. I had a difficult time choosing. The green sponge cake was light and surprisingly moist. The green onion topped savory bread was buttery and fragrant, and the taro filled crab-shaped bread was too adorable to pass up. It was kind of a zoo when I went, and the inside can be a bit cramped with so many people reaching past each other for their favorites. The cakes in the freezer also looked fantastic. They speak mostly Chinese and for someone who has the Chinese face but is 3rd generation and can't speak anything but English, I usually avoid these places or just let my friends order. However, I did come here with some friends and did enjoy a few of the items we got. Here are my fav dishes in English (of course): Salted sticky rice with egg- sticky rice in a plastic bag surrounding the dried shredded pork bits and egg. Simple and delicious! Don't let the presentation fool you! Rice with ground pork. It's not really ground - but more minced pork belly. It can be a bit fatty but it's delicious. Comes with a hard boiled egg and some bok choy. More of a lunch dish. I also got the mushroom braised pork sticky rice. I wasn't too impressed. A lot of rice and not a whole lot of anything else. I'd skip getting this next time. They also have Xiao long bao or soup dumplings but they were definitely not very soupy, but the pork inside was good. Overall, just okay. read more

I really had high hopes for this bakery. I saw all of the amazing reviews and the great pictures so I gave this bakery a visit. There wasn't a lot of variety when I went in, just a lot of the same thing. All of the breads I bought were very dry and flavorless, and the puff pastries were so dry and crumbly that I couldn't even eat them. The large macarons were also awful; they were dry and hard and super crumbly. Even the tiramisu was horrible- all I could taste was shaving cream.
