THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE O'HARE AIRPORT MMF location for Sixt which I cannot find on YELP.
I rented a BMW 5 series sedan and picked up on 5-25-2022 through 5-28. I was given a different vehicle. I made this rental to use while I was at my second home in Chicago (I live in Arizona) until I picked up a new vehicle I was driving back to AZ with my wife on Saturday 5-28.
Upon arrival at the MMF at O'Hare. The Sixt counter staff offered me an alternative car, what they described a brand new BMW X5 SUV. I agreed to change from the 5 series sedan. I prepaid for fuel at the counter and then picked up the car in the packing deck. The vehicle I was given was a hybrid model. Sixt staff in the parking deck told me this car had just arrived. Several minutes were needed to find the car as your staff didn't know where it was parked. While the car was exceptionally fun to drive I had nothing but issues with during the rental period. Upon arrive at my 2nd home that night the vehicle indicated it needed to be charged with only 20% remaining. I thought this was odd since I only drove the vehicle roughly 30 miles and in sport mode and didn't use the hybrid features. I plugged in the BMW charger located in the storage compartment of the vehicle and left it to charge in my garage. The charger indicated a fault and no charge condition when I checked it later that night. I tried different outlets, checked the owners manual and could not get the charger to work. By Friday the 27th, the car would not start at all. The car displayed the charge was low and to charge immediately and all modes were locked out leaving the car dead. I contacted roadside assistance and reservations. Your roadside assistance contract was unable to provide service as they thought this was a manufacturer problem and not a "roadside" problem.
I wasted an over hour going in circles on your useless phone tree trying to find anyone else to talk to. Finally, I was able to connect with someone in reservations. I advised the car was unable to move and would need to be picked up before I left Illinois on Saturday if it didn't charge. Your reservations rep was helpful, took my info and created what she called a ticket to be sent to the O'hare location . She said she marked the request urgent for someone to call me back, but could be up to 24hours under normal circumstances. She also gave me this email address for support. The car still reported it needed to be charged immediately and the BMW charger itself continued to show a fault error light. I tried different outlets all with the same result. Charge fault flashing LED. On the morning 5-28 ( car was due to return by noon that day) I checked and found the charger still showing a fault. However, this time the vehicle now said it had an 80% charge and started. I was able to return the car to O'Hare by noon. I was unable to speak with someone at the customer counter as the check in lines were extremely long with the holiday weekend renters and I didn't have time to wait.
Please be aware NO ONE from SIXT or Roadside ever contacted me as promised by your reservations rep.
I paid a premium price for a premium car. I was unable to use the car for the entire length of rental period. Your customer service was non-existent other than the reservation rep who tried her best to help. This is unacceptable for a NEW and high end car to not be properly charged as a hybrid and or charging equipment to be checked out prior to the vehicle being placed in the fleet for rental. I am expecting a full refund. If I do not hear from someone at Sixt I will post this as a negative review on Google, Yelp and other review sites AND I will open a complaint with the better business bureau. In addition I will dispute the charge with Amex.
I will never rent from this company again. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. read more
