I don't know who is training the folks here or managing the folks here but there is a culture of passive aggressiveness here that's is so deep. The way the folks speak to customers is mind blowing. There is atone and attitude like we are all children. It's not just one person it's everyone. It's like this tone of voice has invaded the culture here and it's ok. This is a pure management issue. Given how many bad ratings this place has it also seems as though Sixt doesn't read these reviews. If you are reading this I would suggest finding another place to rent a car unless you like to be talked down to. Then this is your place. I would also add that Sixt is pretty scammy. I rented a 5 series and was told that was guaranteed in my rental when arrived I was told I was "upgraded" to a 4 series. Additionally as a platinum member I am due a second driver for free and was changed anyway. When I mentioned this to the person behind the counter he said there was nothing he could do about it. Cheap Rental, But Absolutely NOT Worth the Headache -- Stay Away from Sixt I strongly regret renting from Sixt. I had seen the negative reviews before booking, but I decided to give them a chance because in 30+ years, I had never had a bad experience with any rental car company before in the US. I should have listened to the reviews. Our nightmare started the second day after we picked up the car. The car suddenly wouldn't start, leaving us stranded in a remote location. We had to wait THREE HOURS for Sixt to send AAA. Three hours of our vacation were completely wasted because Sixt gave us a car that couldn't even reliably start. But the worst part came afterward. Because the car was in such poor condition, we decided to return it two days early. Before returning the car, we contacted both Sixt and Expedia and specifically asked whether we would receive a refund for the two unused days. We were told yes. After we returned the car, the story completely changed. Sixt told us to contact Expedia. Expedia contacted Sixt while I was on the phone and the representative even sent Sixt the email request they asked for. Then the next day Sixt told Expedia that I needed to contact Sixt to process the refund. When I contacted Sixt, they claimed they had never received Expedia's email and told me that I had paid Expedia, not Sixt so I had to go back talking to Expedia. Back and forth. Again and again. Finally, Expedia arranged a three-way call with Sixt. Only then did a Sixt representative--who refused to give me his name--finally tell me that Sixt would NOT refund the two unused days because the rental had been prepaid. Excuse me? If prepaid rentals are non-refundable, why didn't Sixt tell us that when we called BEFORE returning the car and specifically asked about the refund? Instead, we were told that we would get a refund, only to be told afterward that there would be no refund. Whether this was incompetence, poor communication, or simply an attempt to avoid paying the refund, the result was the same: we lost money and wasted hours dealing with Sixt and Expedia. A rental car company should provide a safe, reliable vehicle and stand behind what its employees tell customers. Sixt failed us on both counts. My advice: Don't be tempted by Sixt's low prices. The money you save isn't worth the risk, inconvenience, and frustration. This is the 2nd time we've used SIXT, so we are a returning customer. The first time was a pleasant experience and the original quote was exactly matching the final invoice, with no hidden surprises. I cannot say the same for the 2nd experience. I got a quote online for a 3 day rental in Orlando picked up a MCO airport ($332). The in-person sales rep Nelmia straight off the bat tried to upsell us on an upgrade, and made it sound like it was free. It wasn't until we noticed that the final price was greater than our online quote, we had her back out the upgrade. We just wanted the BMW we reserved online, but she switched it to a Volvo (just because we casually mentioned it was the car we drove at home).. Again, we had to get her to revert the order to the BMW. She made further attempts to sell us a pre-paid ez-pass for tolls, but we declined, stating that we wouldn't be travelling anywhere far in Orlando. We declined all protection, but she managed to sneak in protection costing an additional $200, which masqueraded as a security deposit. It wasn't until we received our final invoice (after the trip) that we found out that the extra $200+ was the protection that Nelmia added (without our explicit permission). Why does it have to be this difficult ? Just give me the car I got quoted online, and don't be sneaky about it. She also had the nerve to ask for us to give her a five star review. After hours on chat trying to resolve the additional protection we didn't ask for, customer support said the best they could do is a 50% refund on the protection, leaving us to eat the remainder $100+. Won't be using SIXT ever again after this experience. I gave them 3 or 4 times to make me whole, but got the same 50% refund offer (even after escalating to 2nd level support). read more

Buckle up for this wild ride - literally. We used Sixt at the end of July while in Toronto, but upon reading other reviews it seems that this company is horrible everywhere. We experienced problem after problem with no resolutions. We found Sixt online & ordered the car. Upon arriving to the address, we were faced with a building that had no signs for anything and zero personnel to help us find where to go. It wasn't until we rode the elevator up and down and went through what seemed like the backrooms that we finally found a lovely custodian who wasn't even sure where to send us but sent us off anyway in what turned out to be the right direction. We finally reach the desk (30 minutes late) which was tucked away in the corner of the least busy part of whatever this building was (a mall, offices, liminal space, who knows). I gave my name and my documents only to be told that we can't actually rent this vehicle because it was a 7 seater and I was not of the age to rent a car. They said if we had rented a 5 seater vehicle then I could drive that car and when I asked about a young renters fee, they said they couldn't do that because of the type of vehicle. I asked if we could change the name on the booking (we had another person with us who was over the age of 25) and we were told no because the reservation window has passed. I explained that there were zero signs pointing in the direction of the desk and even staff of the building had no idea where to send us and we couldn't find the location. At this point I asked for our money back to which we were again told no because the reservation window has passed and they didn't have access to it anymore. I was told that if I called Sixt corporate and got permission from them that it was okay that the man helping us at the desk could change the name. So I sit on hold for another 10 minutes, finally reaching a lovely lady who was very helpful. I told her the situation, she said that they can't change the name because the reservation window has passed, so immediately I'm feeling frustrated because of the contradicting information. She mentions the young renter fee to which I explain what I was told and then she says that I should be able to rent if a pay that fee no matter the car - again, more contradicting information. I ended up handing my phone to the man behind the desk who spoke with her. This ended up being another almost 10 minutes of them conversing about the policy. They come back and tell me that there's nothing they can do, but then the man who has my phone at this point says "That's a great idea, I didn't even think of that, let's try that." He hangs up, tells me that they can add another driver, make that person the main driver and make me an additional driver to keep my name on the invoice so there are no problems with the payment. Now it's almost an 1.5 hrs past our original booking window. They were able to do what they said, charging us another $200 deposit for the vehicle that we were told would be returned to us. I asked if there was any way we could extend the rental to compensate time to which we were told we could return it before 8am the next day (spoiler alert: we returned the vehicle at like 3am). We picked up the vehicle, went about our day, no issues. Fast forward to a little over 3 weeks from the trip, we're back in the States and the deposit has not yet been returned to us as promised. We call Sixt. 3 times. Phone call #1: We get through, I explain the situation, then silence from the other end. I hear "Hello?" I say "Hello?" Then boom, I'm hung up on. Phone call #2: We get through, I give my name as the additional driver. "I need to speak with the main driver." I tell them that the main driver does not speak much English and is not present at the moment. I'm told that the main driver needs to be the one to call. I said my name is on the booking to avoid issues like this. Again, I'm told they cannot speak to me. I ask for a supervisor to which I'm told "The supervisor is going to say the same thing so I'm not going to transfer you." I hung up on the person. Phone call #3: I call back with the name of the main driver, get through to a lovely lady who was able to help us (notice that all the women I have spoken to were the most helpful). I explain the problem to which she breaks down the invoice for me and says that we were charged an extra fee for not returning the vehicle with a full tank of gas (we were not told that we must do this, nor did I see this in any email upon booking the car.) In reviewing everything including bank statements and the invoice, it looks like were charged correctly, but it took 3 phone calls to figure this out. However, I did a deeper dive in their website to which it states that a person under 25 years of age can rent any vehicle if they pay the young renter fee. So this all could have been avoided if the company knew about their own policies. This company is a scam!!! read more

I attempted to subscribe to a vehicle through SIXT for over a month. Their system repeatedly failed to process my booking, despite dozens of emails and multiple phone calls. I was initially told my credit was denied, only for SIXT to later admit the real issue was a system error on their side involving my city name ("New York"). By the time the issue was fixed, the price had increased by roughly 50%. Rather than honor the original price, SIXT repeatedly changed its explanation and denied facts that were documented in extensive email correspondence. After more than 40 emails and countless hours spent helping diagnose their system problem, I was left paying substantially more for the same service. Mistakes happen. I used to LOVE Sixt. Their team in Atlanta is phenomenal, and the cars are really nice. That is their one star. I won't ever do business with them again. First, they charged me $580 fee to drop off at another location. Then they held my deposit and never refunded it back to me although they keep telling me they did. They requested I send a copy of my bank statement showing that I never received my deposit (which I did) and again, never received a response. When I did call to follow up, they sent me a copy of my payments, but nothing that showed my deposit being released. I spoke with my bank, and nothing shows the release. Sixt was the only rental company I used. But this past rental experience made me never want to return after being a loyal customer for years, renting their highest vehicles 5-6 times a year. Received a $9 toll fee and they added an extra $90 administrative fee. They refused to refund the administrative fee. I booked enterprise for Christmas, which lost them $1200 over a $90 issue. I also received a parking ticket, which I planned on paying the state directly. They paid the ticket without notice and charged ANOTHER $40 administrative fee on a $115 parking ticket. If you need to coordinate with a local sixt location on your car rental, and you call the sixth telephone number, they will not give you the local locations phone number. So, impossible to coordinate. This would have been useful when the power outage at Norfolk international airport made it impossible for me to rent a car from the Sixt location there and I would like to have called later to try and find out when the power came back on. As it is, since they were unable to provide the car at the time and place appointed, I went to Expedia and requested a cancellation and they went back to Sixt and requested a refund. They refused. Rented a car from them and at pickup the agent tried multiple times to upsell me. After a few attempts we agreed on a price and premium vehicle that was about $70 more than my original reservation. I signed the new agreement and left. At the end, come to find out the she got the price to what it was by changing my reservation- even though I dropped the car off at the agreed time they charged me about $70 more than I expected and agreed to. TLDR: This is a clown show, not a car rental. Avoid. We got there on time for our rental, to be told that the car wasn't ready, and won't be for another 30 minutes -- but they could get us into an upgrade for $25. Fine. The insanely complex toll system ($20 surcharge for tolls + cost of tolls, or $6/day for a reduced surcharge of $5 + cost of tolls, or $35 but no toll cost) rubbed me the wrong way. Weird, but fine, take your unearned money. The car wasn't at full. Annoying, and starting to push over the edge. But we'll deal. Here's the part that turned this into an absolute nightmare: they didn't have an exit ticket for us, so we couldn't exit the parking garage. We flagged down parking garage staff, who initially suggested we drive in reverse 6 stories up a one way with limited visibility. They then said they couldn't open the gate under any circumstance. We spent 45 minutes flagging down a rental car person with the power to open the gate, all while a line of vehicles formed and honking took over. Tried to charge me $1800 when the check engine light came on - 2 miles from the airport staring the rental. The "proof" of the amount I owed was for body work! It was all a ridiculous ploy. Check engine light that causes body damage? No way to speak with anyone. Only via email. After three weeks of emailing telling them I wouldn't pay they said "after review we are still pursuing collection". After three more weeks of me telling them I wouldn't pay because a check engine light was due to poor maintenance and no body damage, and on the day payment was due they replied "we re-reviewed the claim and are no longer pursuing. Two to ten centimeters? That's a suspiciously wide range. That tiny scratch was on the car when we picked it up, but it was so insignificant I didn't think to document it. The rep stated clearly that a debit card with a $200 deposit and the rental fee was sufficient. Based on this assurance, we finalized everything. But when we arrived to pick up the car, the story changed completely. Suddenly, the debit card was not acceptable without a return flight--even though the entire trip was clearly explained beforehand. The staff was not only unhelpful but also refused to escalate the matter or connect me with a supervisor. The customer service was atrocious--rude, dismissive, and utterly useless. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. They offered me a 'upgraded Volvo,' from the Camry I ordered and then charged me for damages on an already tire-damaged car. The tire pressure light went on 10 minutes into my drive. I took it to a mechanic who said there were old chunks out of the back tire and it too dangerous for me to drive it back to the JFK Airport rental office. After months of contacting Sixt's customer service with no results, they fianlly reviewed the papaerwork I sent in and acknowledged it was their fault. This was in October '24. It took months to get a refund on the orignal amount with the false damage charge dropped. As of a few weeks ago, they are now emailing me a NEW Volvo damage amount to be paid that is 3 times higher than the original quote they wavied! $684.00 for a new tire!!!! On top of all of this hassle and stress, I had purchased a Loss Damage Waiver for protections against this kind of scam but even that hasn't stopped them from coming after me. Instead of Sixt commenting that their would be happy to help me, I will get a head start of that PR lie and tell them to simply fix this issue. I could write a book about what a horrible company this is. They are absolute scammers. We reserved the car through Expedia, but due to an emergency, we had to change the reservation to the next day. First, we called Sixt and asked if this would be a problem. We rented a car at MCI and the car had so much damage to it. The person showing us the car acknowledged the damage and stated we would not be held responsible. When we returned the car, we verified again with the agent that the damage was not our doing and we would not be held responsible. And, of course, they have now demanded over $900 in damages. Beware of damage claims. If you choose to rent from them, and I never will again, you better check every inch of the car when you pick it up and take a lot of pictures. I used the car for 3 hours and parked it overnight in a covered hotel parking lot. That response they posted under my review is simply false. I sent multiple emails and made several phone calls. No one responded or took action until I escalated the issue directly to the CEO. This company seems reliable until you actually run into a problem. I had rented from their Battery Park office multiple times without any issues. But the moment something went wrong, the level of negligence and unprofessionalism was shocking. Please take customer concerns seriously before forcing people to escalate to the highest level just to be heard. There's a serious legal issue at the Battery Park location: they rented me a car with an expired registration, and when I brought it up, they casually dismissed it as "just a piece of paper." They were negligent, disrespectful, and completely dismissive. They initially promised a refund, then changed their minds. They misinformed me and refused to take accountability. Everyone I dealt with at that branch was unprofessional and careless. Renting unregistered cars is not a small issue. They charged me anyway: * $81.55 for the rental * $12 for insurance * $27.53 for gas (only this part was refunded) When I returned to the office for the third time, neither the manager nor Bionny would speak to me even though they were the ones who gave the incorrect information. Instead, they sent another employee to tell me that I wouldn't be refunded, and claimed the DMV officer was wrong for rejecting the car. This isn't just about the $93.55 I lost. It's about the complete lack of respect, accountability, and integrity. I was given incorrect information, misled, ignored, and dismissed after Sixt failed to provide a legal vehicle. I had a bad experience with Sixt billing me hundreds of dollars for tiny undetectable damages. I worked with the Westin Hotel location in Boston. The rental was smooth, and the people were polite. The car was solid, nothing special. I returned the car on time after a completely uneventful trip. I had carefully photographed some minor scratches when I picked the car up, but failed to photo the car at drop-off because it looked exactly the same to me. Later I got a bill saying that there was a nick on the hubcap and another on the windshield. It ended up being really expensive, so I am here to warn others to be wary of this company. Not a good experience at all! i had reservation via Expedia with SixT at JFK for a GMC Acadia or similar (7 seats) with $460 (have to return to Boston) and did online checkin the day before the pickup. but when I got sixT at JFK before 10:15 my pickup time, they told me they don't have that car available! and the only option i have is upgrade to bigger car (Ford expedition) with almost double price! I asked if it should be free upgrade and i don't really need that big size, this guy said no, that is only car they can offer and no free upgrade! As i was in the hurry to pick up my family who were waiting at Terminal and late night without other options, i have to accept this one and i took it. But i am wondering if this should be rental car company responsibility to FREE upgrade (or change) to other car if my reserved one is not available (but why my reserved one and i did check in one day before is not available?) ? this seems to me a broken agreement from sixT. horrible scammers. no windshield wiper fluid in car / check engine light went on 2 days after/ two weeks later I receive an email that the car rear door has damage and I have to pay over 600$. Never again do not rent from these scammers. When I received the car there were multiple scratches and a dent on the back. This was a free upgrade how? Think the Better Business Bureau should get involved since I've seen the same complaint of people being charged for scratches and damage to vehicles. We rented a mid size SUV through Expedia at the Battery Park City location. When we arrived, the person behind the counter would not just get us our car. He talked and talked, charged us incorrectly, tried to give us a recalled VW, and then gave us a free upgrade (originally he said free and then the amount was more than I made for so it wasn't free) we get to the gate and the pass doesn't work to get out. This isn't even the worst part. We had the rental for less than 24 hours and drove 125 miles total. I get a bill today (it's been a few days since our rental) with a fuel charge of $250!!!! We got it at 8/8 and brought it back 6/8 (it was 12am i knew we would be charged a bit for this!) and they charged us $250 for that. they also charged more than what the car was supposed to be. i had already paid and reserved via expedia. I called customer service and she immediately said she'd credit my card without me even fully telling the story (this makes me think this happens OFTEN) I said it was fraud. it s. Customer service said it was 8 gallons at 12.99 per gallon... so that's not $250.... they were just going to try to see if i wouldn't notice and just scam me! our rental ended up being $160 and it was originally quoted at $74. This place is absolutely a scam. I can't imagine what charges we would see if we booked for more than 24 hours. read more

SIXT is committing fraud on credit cards. I rented a car last year for two days and returned it without any issues, having a receipt to prove it. Almost three months later, they sent an email claiming that I have a balance for 6K and had the car for 72 days, but I only had it for two days. My credit card company is investigating this matter, and I hope they stopped doing business with them. read more

Beware of This Company!!! I rented a car from Sixt on November 20 and picked it up at 12:43 PM at Chicago Airport. As usual, I inspected the car to ensure there were no damages like scratches. I found a few scratches on the bumper and wheels, so I took several pictures on the day of pickup to document them. When I returned the car on November 30, it was in normal condition with no new scratches or accidents. A Sixt representative took the keys and claimed there were scratches on the car, blaming me for the damage. I explained the situation and showed the pictures I took on the pickup date, which clearly showed the scratches were already there. However, the representative insisted that I caused the damage. I went to the front desk to explain everything, and the manager, Christina, reviewed her records. She confirmed that the scratches were documented before I rented the car and assured me that I was not at fault. She told me everything was fine and that there was no issue. Despite this, on December 7, I received a bill from Sixt's damage department for $1,933.75. I contacted customer service to report the issue, and they asked me to provide proof with the pictures. I sent them the pictures with the timestamps, and after reviewing them, they finally dismissed the claim and acknowledged I was not at fault. This entire experience was extremely frustrating and a waste of my time. As a customer, it's unreasonable to have to deal with such unnecessary stress when the evidence was clear from the beginning. This company is unprofessional and provides poor service. I do not recommend Sixt to anyone and will never use their services again. STAY AWAY !!!! read more
