Very satisfied in every respect with our first Sixt rental. Online rental and airport service in Phoenix went very well; fast, friendly, uncomplicated. The car models are interesting, and the higher end vehicles are very competitively priced. We chose a compact and enjoyed the little yellow Spark. Much easier to find in a parking lot than our usual rental cars. The second driver fee was the only area that I felt could be improved upon; I hope that Sixt will consider waiving that fee for frequent renters or reducing it for a weekly rental, or some other modification. It's definitely not a deal breaker, but it is an up-front disincentive. We will check first for Sixt for our rentals from now on. read more

We just checked our car out! We had really great service at the counter and our rental car was ready to go when we got to the car area. We were supposed to get an Acadia but were upgraded for free to a Cadillac! It's our first time using Sixt and I'd definitely do it again. Oh and the car is brand new! Had a great experience! Made a reservation a few weeks back for a Mercedes CLA 250. Reading the reviews was not expecting it to be available upon arrival. I got the Sixt app, which allowed me to check what car I got. 30 ministers before the pickup it said I was assigned a Volvo. All I had to do was press the switch cars button, which allowed me to switch to a Mercedes cla 250 for no extra charge (or I could upgrade for a fee). Upon arriving to the Sixt station There was only one person ahead of me. The agent did not push any insurance on me or anything like that once I told him I will be using my regular car insurance. The process took less than 5 minutes. A few minutes later I was in a 2018 Mercedes. Rented the car one-way for 10 days and dropped it off in LA and only paid $240 total, what a steal! I would not rent from Sixt! We rented a car from Sixt in May 2019. We had an early flight and returned the car before their office was open. There was a Sixt employee at the airport who walked around our car and stated everything was good. We handed him the keys and left. We received an invoice a week later for damages to the windshield of the car. There was zero damage to the car when we returned it. When we disputed the charge, basically Sixt stated that since we did not take out their car rental Insurance, we are responsible for any damage weather we caused it or not. There are several reviews with other customers stating the exact same thing happened when they rented from Sixt. read more

Very easy to book online. Unfortunately I had to cancel my trip due to a death and a major medical emergency. I paid ahead of time to get a lower rate. My credit card was charged, but now I am out for a $170 cancellation fee. They told me if I rebooked the money I paid would go towards a credit, but I will also have to pay a higher rental rate! WTF! I have sent emails, but not getting any response. I even told them I would provide the medical documentation, but they will not even respond. So far I am out for over $300. Also actually speaking to a person is almost impossible. read more

DO NOT RENT from this company. You cannot, for the life of you, get someone on the phone to help you. They force you to email any changes. I wanted to upgrade, they quote me a price, I say I'll take it, they write me back and tell me they need my DOB, I give it, 2 hours later, they write back and say..oh now the price has gone up over $100. REALLY!? They can see the price right in the email they gave, and you can't talk to anyone on the phone to book..so you are forced to email, and then they try to make you pay more. We have 18 kids going, all will need cars for their families...and had they had ANY sort of customer service or been willing to honor the prices they give, they would have had 18 people renting from them. Now I am forced to stick with them cause I prepaid and apparently if you prepay you can't cancel. NEVER AGAIN SIXT, never again! read more

This was my first experience renting from Sixt and I would highly recommend them to anyone who travels and needs a rental car. You can't beat their prices. I think their rates change often and it looks like this depends on what is available. I read the negative reviews and didn't have any of these problems. My car was clean; I even got a free upgrade. I got a receipt when I checked in and when I returned the car as well. They walked around the car when I picked it up and when I returned it and there was no hassle at any time. I can see why someone might think picking up the car could be confusing, I think that is because you can pick up your car without going to the traditional check-in window but they still offer the traditional check-in window which I used and I thought the staff was very helpful and nice. read more

We flew into Phoenix to go house hunting. I booked a Camry or equivalent for the 8 days. I am not sure why they didn't have that vehicle or equivalent available. The young lady said she was going to upgrade me free of charge to a small SUV. I believe it was a Chevy Traverse. I am 6'5 and it had adequate leg room. But, I still would have rather had the better gas mileage in what I had booked since I was house hunting and running all over. But, it was still a nice little vehicle. The acceleration was horrible though. The young lady at the desk was very attentive and engaging for conversation and seemed to show genuine interest in my visit. The rental process took about 6 minutes. We went down and picked the vehicle up downstairs, that took another 3 minutes. The vehicle was just cleaned. It only had about 3,500 miles on it so extremely new overall. The return was super easy and I was very thankful they were open at 6:00 AM. A couple seconds after arriving the guy looked the Chevy over, said I was all set and have a nice day. I do recommend filling up a couple exits before the airport as I didn't see any gas stations once I arrived in the actual airport area. They emailed me a final invoice which was exactly for what I had signed for the first day. I would certainly rent from them again. But, I would probably call ahead to make sure I was going to get the vehicle I booked and not something I didn't book. read more

WORST. CAR. RENTAL. EXPERIENCE. EVER!! Should you ever see the sign Sixt....RUN! I should have listened to my gut when we got off the plane in Phoenix, and walked into Sixt to find NO LINES. Walked right up to the counter. Dollar & Payless Rentals were packed with long lines. Nothing in Sixt. Next, we were greeted by an unctuous & ingratiating rep, which proceeded to disingenuously chat us up. She was more interested in "upgrading" us in order to spend more money. Just give me the car I ordered and be done with it, please. Once she realized she wasn't going to get us for every dime we had, she turned into Nurse Ratched. At the end, I asked for a GPS. "We don't have any." Really?!? I would think that would be an ample staple you would NEVER run out of at a car rental establishment. I then asked for a map. "We don't have any!" Seriously, people?? We walked out of there not knowing where the heck we were going. Thanks, Sixt!! The Final Insult: she took $690.00 off my credit card for a $290.00 tab. RUN! DON'T. LOOK. BACK!!! read more

If it was possible to give a zero I would. Beware that they may not (probably will not) have a vehicle as promised if you rent the premium vehicles (BMW 5 Series or Mercedes) as was the case when I was turned away. Wanted a nice vehicle for a wedding and they had nothing, told me to call back tomorrow morning at which time a vehicle would be available. When I called back in the morning as instructed there was nothing..... Come on Sixt, you can do better than that can't you???? Suffice it to say, after going round and round with this excuse for a company, I rented a beautiful vehicle from another rental company. Remember folks, you really do get what you pay for! Sixt had the best price by far of the rental companies at Phoenix airport. The reservation agent (Ian) was courteous and professional but not pushy in the least. I inquired about available upgrades and decided on the Mercedes GLE (rebranded M-class) SUV. Ian checked on different discount programs so I got an excellent rate. Car was almost new and spotless -- an incredible vehicle. Only blip was the agent in the garage was not at the counter so I had to wait a few minutes. When returning the vehicle, the process was quick and the rep was friendly. Overall, a very good experience -- at least on par or better than the other rental companies I've used at Phoenix airport -- and at a much better rate. Definitely will check them out next time I'm on a trip where Sixt has a location. read more

Had an excellent experience with this company when I rented from 1/18-1/25/17. Price was better than at any other rental car company in Phoenix. And I got a new Chrysler Pacifica minivan at a lesser price than for a sedan at other companies. The staff I encountered were friendly and answered all my questions. At first, I was hesitant to rent from a company I knew nothing about. But for the price, I took the chance instead of renting from National which I normally use. From now on, I will check out Sixt whenever I rent a car which is usually 4-5 times a year. I always check the final price at the rental counter to make sure it agrees with the quote I received from whomever I rented it from. This time it was Travelocity and what they charged is what was quoted in my reservation. No problems or hassles at all. I decline all insurance since my State Farm policy on my own car applies to any rental car. That saves a lot of dollars. read more

I prepaid for my rental online. The day of when I checked in, they added an additional $280 charge on my card without telling me. The charges on my credit card and the amount on my receipt are completely different. Every sentence they utter at the counter is an attempt to discreetly add another charge to your rental without your knowledge. No rental car company is innocent by any means, but this one is especially awful. read more

Traveled with my 81 year old father and his wife. Booked a car with my flight through Expedia. We were delayed at Toronto airport for forty minutes (no big deal) then at Amsterdam airport (Netherlands) we were brought to another Gate because of airport renovations (happens) witch held us up another 45 (approx) minutes. From the tarmac bused to actual gate (added to another delay). The reason I'm explaining all this is because when I went to pick up our rental car from SIXT they told me I was late to pick up the rental car and they gave it away! If the car was prepaid how could you give it away! Due to no fault of our own we were delayed at the airports plus baggage wait time and the seven people ahead of us at the SIXT counter. Oh! but wait, lucky me, they have another car an upgrade we can have for 460.00 Euro more. They took a 800.00 dollar deposit that they would deduct the upgrade from. Easter Sunday no other choice but to take it or ruin my fathers bucket list vacation. When dealing with SIXT calling the head office while there my father was getting upset because I was (the last thing I wanted for him) . I took the car! I had no choice, and they knew that (hence the arrogance from my call to SIXT head office. I spoke with a John Farnish I think that was his name). I am surprised a good company like Expedia (that I like very much) would deal with SIXT. Expedia should look at SIXT customer reviews, NOT GOOD. Since I paid Expedia for the rental they are now looking into the matter for me. I did receive an e-mail from Expedia within 48 hours to tell me they are awaiting a response from Sixt. read more

We had a great experience with Sixt! There was only one car remaining in the class of vehicle we reserved, which ended up having a safety recall. We were promptly upgraded and sent on our way. I was a bit taken aback when we were handed the keys and told to let them know if there were any concerns, but on a brand new vehicle there were none. We were respectful with the car, cleaned it up a little before returning it with a full tank of gas, and were charged exactly the amount quoted on the reservation. We declined their insurance as I was double-covered with my own auto policy plus coverage through the cc i used. I would definitely recommend. read more

Do not trust they will let you rent a car. Slightest issue and they will refuse your reservation. No manager available for discussion or review of course. I had a reservation made months in advance. When I got there because they could not scan my license they refused but "conveniently" referred my premium reservation to their Fox rental agency right next to them for a downgrade in car for a higher price. Ok, so initially we had Terrible customer service. A guy with the dreadlocks was flirting with a potential customer for twenty or so minutes and then shooed like 15 people downstairs to his hardworking coworker, a young woman who was super competent. The cars were amazing and competitively priced. Unfortunately sixth does not have a fast pickups for folks with reservations (like Hertz), so if you run into an off task employee like the dude upstairs, sixt loses its potential to knock your socks off. The car I rented wasn't available so they offered me a free upgrade with DOUBLE the hold, okay no problem. I was shown the ranger rover velar or Volvo XC90 by Mike. When I went downstairss, the line was horrendous because people were having issuess. I waited 45 minutes before even being seen! Turns out the car I waS offered was not what was on the contracted printed at the counter. They lied. I told the girl and she didn't want to deal with it and literally just walked away! The guy came and started helping the people in line behind me! After 5 people getting their cars, I finally said, "am I just going to be ignored all night or is someone going to help me?!" After waiting for almost an HOUR with a cranky toddler, I just took the car that was given to me. Then I tried to get out of the lot and had to get out and go back to the counter because the moron never put the sticker on my contract to end able me to get out of the lot! The car had coffee stain in the cup holder and popcorn in the backseat! Not cleaned- disgusting!!! Also, there is no one there to inspect it at pickup or return- unsettling..Long lines, long wait, HORRIBLE lying customer service. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere. All of the employees were rude and miserable! Can't say enough horrible things about this place! NIGHTMARE! The rude, uninterested, poor demeanor, and lack of care of the workers is a shame. read more

If I could give this review ZERO stars I would. I travel and rent cars multiple times monthly and thought I would treat myself to a luxury rental this time around. I had never heard of SIXT, but they had a great price for a luxury car and I was excited to book them. I took to yelp to see what others had to say and a lot of people had concerns regarding shady extra charges. Most had to do with them charging you for insurance when you had verbally declined it at the counter. Regardless of these MULTIPLE warnings, I decided it would be safe to rent from them as long as I took precaution in regards to the paperwork at the counter. I can say that there was no attempt to sneak in additional charges at the counter and was extremely happy with the customer service I received. The car I rented was extremely clean and I had a fantastic vacation. HOWEVER. On the morning of my departure, I gassed up the car (unfortunately using cash) approximately 10 miles away from the airport and proceeded to head to the return center. Upon return of the car, whereas most rental companies give you a copy of your estimated invoice amount, SIXT only tells you that they will email an approximate invoice shortly and only ask you to confirm your email address. I would be lying if I said that at this moment I wasn't weary of their reputation of shady business practices. However, I decided to have faith, verify with caution and proceed to the airport. This was apparently a mistake as 2 days later I received an invoice with a $200 fueling charge on it!!!!!!!!!!!! As I said, I fueled up the car immediately prior to my return to the rental center AND the individual who checked the car in NEVER said anything in regards to the fuel level. I sent an email to customer service and they asked me to produce the receipt from the gas station!!! I did not keep this receipt because I never in my right mind thought I would need it. For right now, they are claiming they are investigation the situation. Should it be resolved, I will alter my review. However, should it not, I plan to update the situation with ANOTHER review. read more

I needed to go to Phoenix for the holiday weekend but found that my usual rental car companies rates were astronomical. I therefore decided to rent from Sixt despite the spate of negative reviews. I can only state that my experience was perfectly fine. They had the car that I requested. The service was prompt and courteous, the car was an excellent value and I received an electronic acknowledgement that the car had been returned in good condition immediately. That being said, Sixt is co-located with other smaller (and lower tier?) rental companies and has very sparse staffing. In addition, the employees appear to work for a third party staffing (IE, temp) agency, not directly for Sixt. This may explain the variable experience other reviewers have had. read more

This was my first experience with Sixt and I was very impressed. I had reserved a standard SUV for 11 days. The price quoted was less than what the major rental companies would charge - with discounts - for what they called a standard sized car but what I would call an intermediate. When I arrived at the airport counter I was greeted with a pleasant smile from the agent. He said I have some good news and some bad news for you. He said the bad news was the SUV I was expecting was not available but the good news was that he was upgrading me. He told me I was in for a surprise. When I asked for a map he said it would not be necessary since the car had a navigation system. He then handed me the keys and I saw it was for a Mercedes Benz SUV! I went down to pick up the car and since I had never driven such a car it took some time to get familiar with its instruments. An agent came over without being asked and showed me all that I needed to know. I was off and the time spent renting a car was far less than what I was accustomed. The car was immaculate and in good running order. The return was effortless and a receipt was e-mailed to me by the time I got to the gate. The individual handling the return took our suitcases out of the back and inspected the interior to be sure we left nothing behind. For me this rental company has a great business plan. Provide quality rental cars, at competitive prices, and great customer service. read more

This was our first time renting from Sixt and it was great! We made our reservation with Sixt because they had the best price for a minivan during spring training. We waited in line less than 10 minutes and the customer service representative was friendly, courteous, and efficient, and there was no pressure to upgrade or take extras that we didn't need, including additional insurance. Once downstairs, another friendly Sixt employee showed us to our car, which was a clean, new minivan. All in all, a great experience renting from Sixt--we'll definitely use them again. read more

We had no troubles with our SUV rental with Sixt. We were upgraded for no additional charge. We took pictures of several scratches on the car prior to leaving the rental area. One employee said it would be no problem to pay with a different card but when the time came to pay the person behind the counter said I would then have to pay in cash. Overall a very positive experience. And the least expensive rental I could find (barring the off brands that I generally have little confidence in). There was no line when we arrived, we were checked in and on our way in less than 5 minutes, and there was no attempt to upsell me at the counter. The agent offered me an upgrade from a mid-size Buick to a BMW 328i at no extra cost. I took it, of course. Car was great, no issues there. On the return, also quick and painless. The agent confirmed the tank was full, no damage to the vehicle, and told me the total cost would be what I was quoted, and that Sixt would send an invoice via email within the hour. It was there by the time we reached the terminal, and was exactly what I was quoted. I will definitely rent again. read more

I was very frustrated and disappointed with my experience renting a car from Sixt. Sixt does not have reliable roadside assistance and does not honor their word to their customers. My car had a flat tire and I need to get to a training. When I called the roadside assistance/customer service phone number I was told that "eventually" someone would bring me a replacement car. The agent recommended I take a taxi to the class and said that Sixt would reimburse me the cost of the taxi and bring a replacement car to me in the afternoon. When my training class was over the car was not there. I called the phone number and no one answered the phone. I continued to call back several times and no one answered the telephone. After an hour, I was going to get a ride to another rental car company and a man arrived with a tow truck carrying a replacement car for me. When I returned the car to the airport on Feb. 12 at 12 pm the counter employee said it was my choice to take a taxi and the company would not reimburse me for the taxi. I requested that she call her manager and explained that Michelle at customer service told me the company would reimburse the taxi. She said the manager was doing interviews off site and was not available to talk to me. I told her that Sixt company was not answering the phone. And I asked her to contact customer service for me. She called the number from 2 different phones and no one picked up the phone. She told me that she had to wait very long periods for the customer service/roadside assistance phone to be answered "all the time". About 30 minutes after I returned the car no one had picked up the phone. Luckily I was not trying to call roadside assistance from the side of a busy highway with a broken down car. I would expect that this company's practice of not answering the telephone will cause many problems, and lead to unnecessary safety concerns, for customers. It certainly is a safety concern for me. read more

Do not rent from this RIPOFF company. First off all we pre-paid online a MONTH in advance and requested a specific vehicle, both online and by calling a week prior to our trip. The car we requested was not available when we went to pick it up. Secondly, they charged a "security deposit" of $1,000 on our credit car when we have car insurance with million dollar coverage. This place sucks, I would walk 100 miles Before I would rent a car from them again. They are thieves, they lie, and they don't care about you, they care about how much money they make that's it, I tried to rent a car from them, I even pre-paid in advance and when I got to the airport I need to put down another $220 deposit that they did not tell me about and it had to be on a credit card they wouldn't take my debit card so now I'm left with no car $320 stuck on my credit card and I can't rent a car anywhere else,Now I am stuck. I asked for a refund she said that they would refund my money it's been four days and I still have not received my money and I still cannot rent a car these people are rude and ruthless I tried calling customer service yesterday it was on terminal hold nobody answered the phone so I proceeded to go on the Internet and leave a message and got no response back whatsoever so now today I called again and I'm going through the prompts and it's telling me if I want to talk to a sales person to press one if I want to talk to customer service to press 2 to so I pressed 2 and what happens they have nobody to take my call and hang up on me dicks ha ha they have somebody there if they're going to collect money but if they've already collected it they just hang up on him. Beware if yourent a car from them I would steer clear yeah maybe they have some nice cars and what not but they don't have any nice people. read more

Made a reservation on line. Changed the credit card used and got charged rebooking fee. Spoke to customer service and was told there was nothing they could do because that's what the rental agreement fine print stated. Unacceptable customer service . Charging a rebooking fee for changing the credit card is petty. I won't rent from Sixt again. read more

I had a similar experience in October 2019 to another reviewer regarding their billing practices. The lady at the counter upsold us hard on the luxury SUV, then asked if we wanted to add my wife as a driver. We were not told or explained that it would be an additional per day charge (we have never seen this practice from any other rental companies). When we went to get a receipt after returning the car (thank God we did), we noticed the charge of over $100. When I protested, the gentleman at the counter pointed out my wife's initials on the upgrade (there were no initials on the next line for the extra driver charges). He said "is that your initials?" as if to say "tough s$%^". I got terse with him and he responded with some rudeness. My wife stepped in and got him to reverse the charge. I'm just hoping and praying that they don't try to bill us for damage that we didn't cause, like so many other reviewers have said here. I'll submit another review if that happens. read more

Update: The Branch Manager did reduce the charges by changing my rental from 3 to 2 days. Something is better than nothing. So I will in turn change my review from 1 to 2 stars. Similar to what happened to Alex R. below, I was charged an additional $125 for my 3 day rental for insurance and road side assistance that I did not want. I initially made the reservation through Priceline on May 9th( Sixt Reservation number 9850825105) for $118 and that's all I should have been charged. I declined insurance and any additional services during that time. However when I picked up the car it appears I was unknowingly sold the additional insurance. When I think back at the interaction, the representative at the counter only gave me two options when asked about insurance, the full coverage or the minimal. So I said minimal thinking it was the one that I would not incur any additional charges on. It was never verbally communicated to me on how much that would be. While the contract does show that now that I thoroughly reviewed it, I did not know this is what I was signing. I was in a rush and thought I was initialing next to the amount the car was to rent per day. This is partly my fault for not reading the contract, but it has never happened to me before with other car rental companies so I overlooked it. Had the rep. given me a no insurance option or if she would have verbally said the additional amount it was, I would have declined it. I disputed the charge through Sixt customer service but they just declined it! This is terrible customer service. Sure I made a mistake by not thoroughly reading what I was signing. But again, if the Rep would have done a better job of giving me ALL the options, and how much each was then it wouldn't have been an issue. In the end, there was a miscommunication and I made an honest mistake but they haven't been able to help me with a refund. I emailed the branch manager in hopes that he would understand. Hopefully he's a little more reasonable than Customer Service. read more
