Their customer service is awful. The lines are super long and takes forever to get through. Their representative proceeds to distract you and talk about nonsense stuff and makes you believe that the "Loss Damage Waiver" is required. I was impatient as I had a 2 year old anxiously wanting to run around and initialed on the receipt to just move forward the process. Little did I know they charged me an extra $144. When I realized this when I looked at my credit card statement that night I contacted them ASAP and asked to cancel the remaining 4 days of this stupid coverage. They stated that you can't cancel. Dumbest thing I ever heard. If you're paying per day, you should be allowed to cancel the remaining days. Such a scam! Not to mention that in every email correspondence they assumed I was male and proceeded to address me by "Mr" each time. Can we not? I will never book with them ever again. read more

Best rate. Rented a brand new Mercedes for same price of a basic car with other rental car companies. Smooth transaction. It was recommended not to pre-pay online so I just reserved the car. They actually upgraded me from C class to E class. Return was quick and they didn't find any damage on car we needed to dispute. I would rent from them again. 4 stars instead of 5 because that free upgrade was added to the receipt I got emailed for $10/day. I responded to that email with a basic statement saying it shouldn't be on there and they responded in a timely fashion saying it would be removed. I was pleased with the service I got when I initially called before renting and then with the issue post-rental. I would rent from them again. read more

Very disappointed in Sixt, I had to cancel my reservation, giving them a six week notice, and was charged over hundred dollars. I felt that was plenty of notice, I emailed the company with my complaint and I got no response, they asked for the cancellation number and I gave it to them, then nothing. I was very skeptical of renting from Sixt after reading these reviews, but ultimately took the plunge as their pricing for a week as nearly $200 less than their competitors. I am so glad i did! We arrived at the kiosk, and the gal behind the counter was very friendly and accommodating. We were in and out in a matter of minutes. Picking up the car was a breeze. We were off on our adventure for the week. When it came time to drop the car off, before we even had our luggage out of the car the attendant was over to help us. So, let me start by stating that I have rented from Sixt in the past and have had good experiences, however, this time was extremely different. I felt the staff were arrogant. I requested a Range Rover Velar and of course it was not available when I arrived. The initial counter person told me to call around 9am to see if the car is available. I call, get a very rude person who tells me he is busy and cannot check now, and if that is what I want to do I should just come over there. I drive there, and of course they did not have the car. I say ok, let me add my husband to the contract as a driver. They add him. We go to walk away and I notice my bill is different. They did not tell me it is $13 per day for your spouse to drive. In the past, here at Phoenix and in Amsterdam I did not pay this fee. I tell them I don't want to pay this fee. I obtain a car from Budget and they don't even need to see my spouses license. As we go back to Sixt, now they want to waive the fee. Their loss, I took my $500 that I was paying them and paid budget $350! read more

I rented a Mercedes from here on June 10th. The car was amazing but when I checked in they screwed up all of my reservation stuff. We were told we would get a call on Monday from a manager to fix the reservation but never got a call. We were also informed the car came with navigation and the nav sd card was not there. The cars are amazing and the prices are amazing but just review your paperwork before you leave and check your statement when you leave because I was charged an extra 130$ and lost a day on my rental due to the people at the counter not properly doing the reservation. May rent again but will pay close attention to everything next time. read more

I prepaid for a luxury car, a few days in advance. Upon arriving I was told they didn't have the car anymore, that it had been sold. I was puzzled, but the guy said, don't worry I'll find you a good deal. A few minutes later he had a car, said it would be $180. total for the duration of my trip. I said, wow, thank you !! Well, after I left and arrived at my destination I was looking over my receipt. He had added another $180 to my prepaid amount !! I immediately called in to let them know I did not want the car for that price and that I would return it. I was told not to worry about it, that they didn't want to ruin my trip. Also, when I returned the car to let the manager know what had happened, and they would adjust it. Long story short, when I called I was transferred to a recording. Then I was giving an email . So I called again. I was told someone would contact me the following day. Nothing. Then I received an email to explain what had happened, again. Next day another email. They apologized and said they couldn't refund the extra $180. I won't be using them again. Prior to this I had been billed twice, but they took care of that one . I had names of the people I had spoken to, nothing mattered. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! To add fuel to my disappointment in SIXT, last night I was checking my bank statement.. they charged me an extra $320. I rented a car with Sixt for two weeks and i wanted to share my opinion with the experience i faced. Arriving after a long flight from Germany - having a long car ride ahead of me, i was exhausted and not really in a good mood. However, this all changed by stepping up to the sixt counter at the Rental Station in Phoenix, Arizona. Myself, working in hospitality management with experience internationally - including "the world's most luxurious Hotel" the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, has rarely experienced any customer service like this! I was greeted by Mike (at around 5:30pm on the 13th of April), his kindness and professional appearance was a nice "treat" after an long, exhausting trip. I know working in customer service is exhausting and sometimes it can be very annoying, however i felt welcomed and it seemed that Sixt - and especially Mike apprecitated me being with Sixt. I got a Volvo - nice car to be traveling with. Only had around 9000 miles on it. I had to wait around 10 minutes to get the keys for it since they were still washing the car. NO BIG DEAL. I do not understand the negative reviews on here. Everything went great. Arrived to return my car at 5.30 in the morning and was even greeted by my name. So they pretty much pay attention to the details. Go and book with Sixt, you wont regret it. If i could, i would give them 10 Stars, 5 would go to Mike. read more

First time I have used this company.. Overall good experience during trip. Drove from Phoenix to Flagstaff. The Volvo was nice and clean. The auto was parked in a private home garage for 4 days while in Flagstaff. Drove back to airport and easy check in. I was the only driver and there was no contact with anything during the trip. I just opened an envelope and they claim there was a crack in a wheel rim. If there was a crack, it was not caused by anything in my trip. I am a 63 year old man and have never left a negative review in my life but this is TOTAL BS! Use this company at your own risk! I was skeptical with the price being so low, but my experience was great! The Malibu I was given was new, nice and loaded with features, and the service was friendly and fast. Do realize there are a lot of extra fees added on, so add about $20 per day to their posted rates for your actual bottom dollar price without any insurance or additional services, but that was still considerably cheaper than most others when I was renting. Their counter in the car rental center was tight and crammed in the corner, but I was helped immediately and there was never more than 2 people in line while I was checking in, so it wasn't a big deal. read more

Having never heard of Sixt, I checked here prior to renting. It looks like they didn't have a great reputation at one point but appear to be turning around. I figured we'd give it a chance! Glad we did - super nice people working the desk, personable and friendly! We walked away with a nice upgrade, no issues with the car, return was so simple. Pulled in, gave up keys and made our way to the shuttle for the airport. Fees suck but can't fault them, it's the problem with renting at an airport and dealing with hospitality in general - lots of taxes. In the end, I'd definitely use them again. read more

I rented a car in April, and the front desk person was awesome! Damage to the windshield and door were noted on agreement, so we did not photograph that damage. Returned it in same condition, and the agent in the return area made no mention of anything. About 3 weeks later, we get an invoice for damage to the windshield with photos of the windshield. We send the invoice back with the notation regarding existing damage prior to rental. We then received an invoice for $25. About a month later, we received an invoice for Administrative Fees and Loss of Use for $60. I have tried calling their claims department, their accounting department, and any other number, but no one answers or the line disconnects. I have sent several e-mails and messages on their website. I have included my phone number on the correspondence, in order to be contacted by the company, and I have not received a call. My advice--do not rent from SIXT. If you have no other option, be sure to photograph every square inch of the vehicle. read more

We've rented from this Sixt locations several times over the past couple of years, and I have two upcoming vehicles scheduled. My husband fell and hurt his shoulder which will require surgery. I tried to change the dates of my upcoming rental, which was pre-paid or put the funds towards a future rental and they declined to assist. I see from the recent reviews that Valerie A. received a 100% refund. I guess some customers are more important than others. I have one more pre-paid vehicle scheduled in August in SFO, but that will be my last rental with Sixt. I am paying $400+ for a 3-day use of a vehicle (starting this Wednesday), where I could have purchased it through Costco today for half the price. Costco will have my loyalty in the future, because of their great return policy. read more

I loved their service. We rented a basic convertible and since they did not have it they gave us a free upgrade. They were super fast and had 3 staff persons taking customers in the busy hour. It was easy to reserve online and pay on-site. The car return process was simple too. They offer rates better than other car rental companies and the vehicle they provided me was up to date. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE RENTING WITH SIXT! I rented with Sixt nearly 40 times in the past 18 months, mostly for business purposes and do not let their low prices for luxury cars fool you. Customer loyalty means​ absolutely​ nothing to this company. I rented from them per usual for a monthly business trip in Phoenix, got a decent car for the price, filled the car up before I turned the car in, dropped the car off, the ​guy said I was good to go. Nothing unusual until I got an updated bill where they charged me $47.68 over what I was supposed to pay. With a little research and a calculator,​ I realized they were charging me for gas, some type of gas fee, and then taxed it to add insult to injury. I thought, this isn't possible - I filled up before I dropped off, I have a receipt to prove it. So I called their customer service and the girl that answered the call did not care​ at all about how much business I've given them, how loyal I've been, ...nothing. And refused to reverse the charge. So I called my credit card company to dispute the $47.68 and my credit card company reversed​ the charge. A couple weeks go by and I received the first bill from Sixt saying I now owe $62.68, I think I'll let it go - I figured they can send me all the bills they want, I don't owe this. A couple more weeks go by and I receive a FINAL REMINDER that is now $77.68 that says if I do not pay they will send me to collections. I call immediately in hopes to explain this situation to a reasonable​ person on the phone and when I get to the extension of the department that would handle this I get a recording that hangs up on me. Ultimately, this isn't the first time I've had a bad experience but this was the straw that broke the camels back for me. PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. If you want a luxury car at a discounted price, go to Silvercar. They are consistent across the country, always nice, and you know what you're getting before you even get there. UPDATE: They told me to email them with my reservation information and they have revoked my access to their website. First of all, the car rentals are all about 10 miles from Sky Harbor Airport and requires getting a shuttle to get there. When I arrived to pick up my car, there was no one at the counter. I found a girl working on the computer and asked. She said someone would help me. After waiting several minutes, still no one at the counter. Finally, a young man came in from outside. He handed me a booklet with a bar code on it and pointed in the general directions of my car. When I got to the gate to exit, there was no one there. I finally figured out that I was suppose to scan the bar code even though there were no directions to do so on the sign that said "Stop Here". I decided to return the car the day before my 5 am flight on Thursday. I had some friends follow my to the car rental place which was very difficult to find. When we got in, I got no receipt, and we had major difficulty getting out of the rental place. Not a good experience. I'm still waiting on my refund. The Elantra I rented was fine, but I thought their service was terrible. read more

I cannot recommend renting from Sixt in West Palm Beach. too many issues, of which the worse was leaving my $700 brand new prescription sunglasses in a van. I can't believe the driver didn't check the seats, as he had no return customers. I called within hours to file a claim and the call back- no glasses found, sorry. our luggage was put on a van by the driver and he took off without us. at airport inside van was dark, no lights came on, or I would have seen them. it is my fault, but come on. no honest people there! read more

Thank you to Sixt for the reply. Indeed some of the charges I complained about were in the contract. The problem is that the pricing is quoted at a lower price so that comparison shopping is invalidated. Then charges that sound official or like government fees are added, which is intended to deceive the customer. Sixt offers good vehicles and good service, but they have pushed the pricing deception to a new level. I don't want to be unfairly punitive so I have raised my rating from 1-star to 3-stars. read more

I have now rented from Sixt on two occasions and at two different airports, and at neither time was there an opportunity to go over the vehicle to look for preexisting damage to the car before I left the facility. There are no staff members present as you leave, and you pick up the car in a dark parking garage so there isn't really a way to see if there is damage, either. On this most recent occasion at Phoenix I found numerous small (cosmetic) areas of damage to the car as soon as I pulled out of the garage, so I immediately drove back into the pick-up area and finally found one employee who reluctantly came over to inspect the car with me. He was able to pull up the information on the vehicle and confirm that the damage had previously been noted. After I left the facility I noted that this car had not been cleaned properly (same with the first car I rented). The windows inside were completely dirty/hazy from lack of cleaning, and as I did on the first rental occasion I had to buy my own window cleaner and paper towels to clean the interior windows so it was safe to drive. Finally (and the worst), I had this car for a 6-day rental period. On day 5, when I was 200 miles from the rental facility I realized the rear tires were completely bald. Not simply worn, but bald - they literally looked like racing slicks. I was parked in the sun at an angle where the tires were in direct sunlight or I very likely wouldn't have noticed, although in retrospect I realized the peculiar hum at times while on the highway was very likely related to this issue. Also, the maintenance minder in the car alerted me every time it was started that maintenance was overdue. When I returned the car I made sure I pointed the tire issue out to the return associate (who was suddenly available to go over the car with a fine tooth comb to look for additional damage), and his response to the tire issue was to simply shrug his shoulders. I tried again to let him know the potential danger of letting a car go leave their facility with bald tires, but he truly appeared disinterested. I would possibly consider renting from Sixt again (I like that they have luxury cars available), but running bald tires on a Mercedes, not doing appropriate maintenance, and having the potential to be charged for preexisting damage because of no chance to examine the vehicle with staff while taking possession of the vehicle is a cause of concern. Now that I know Sixt's standard operating procedure I would make sure to find an associate to go over the car in detail (including tires), plan on cleaning my own windows, and then make a video of my findings/car overview before leaving with the car. On a positive note, the check-in process was quick, and one day later I was emailed the receipt and there were no additional charges other than the agreed upon rate. read more

I booked an X5 and despite i was told at the desk by Sixt staff that the GPS charge I optioned in the booking system (it was not clear if it was already included) could have been refunded since it was obviously already present in the package, they said it was not possible to do it. Rented a Mercedes CLA with only 8000 miles on it.I had my doubts if we would get it. Thats one of the problem with sixt you cant really choose the exact car you want only the catogory.But you can always call them before pick up and ask them to put a side note with the exact car you want (it worked for us however maybe just luck). Another thing i did not like was that we could only visit the 4 neighboring states of Arizona not Colorado.We had no spare tire with us whats up with that...(not that we had any problems but still). Things we liked: - No waiting in any lines fast and easy check in with no hassle. (The other rental company counters had a line you wont believe maybe an hour wait for sure + half an hour at pick up downstairs) -Total was only 480 dollars for 12 days with an awsome car. - The security deposit might be a bit high (double the rent) but its only an aproval so you want actually get charged for it. -Unlimited mileage and we where insured for everything. -Returning the car was no problem we where ready to go in like 5 min. Walkaround - test drive - receipt done. -You will always get a awsome car instead of there cheap competitors rides. Tips: Dont pay online for some reason it costs more... Never pay extra for navigation because they are standard in all cars. Check your credit card perks for rental car benifits like insurance etc. (Ps): The service there might seem to go be a bit fast with limitedcourtesy/manners. But hey i dont need a cherry on top if i dont have to wait long for things to happen. read more

I had a horrible experience with Sixt in San Francisco last week I had initially booked a car for pickup at SFO, then when I realized they had a place in the city near my office I switched the booking to that location. So I get to the SF location on Fishermans Wharf. I am the only one in the place except for three customer service reps sitting at 3 separate desks: 1 is on the office phone talking to a customer with a problem. 1 is texting on her cellphone and 1 is sitting there staring kind of blankly. Finally the 1 staring blankly looks at me and says "you here to pick up?" Relieved I said yes. Then she points to the one on the phone and says "she can help you" Ok. So I wait another 3 minutes for phone lady. She promptly tells me my compact isn't available because my reservation was for 6pm and it was 5pm This even though at 3pm Sixt texted me and said "see you soon" So I grudgingly took a full size for 14 bucks more per day Chevy Malibu. Not a bad ride. Next unpleasant experience was getting my final bill which if you read some previous comments had hidden charges like a "rebooking fee" for when I switched to the city pickup. I travel 100k air miles a year Will not use them again read more

I booked for a Mercedes for April 10-13. Knew I'd be in the car 12 hrs a day looking at homes in Tucson. Then I read all the bad reviews. I nervously approached the counter signed out a brand new Volvo. I asked the at the counter about the bad reviews and issues people had. He was cool and reassuring. Did tell me that Arizona states that if I wreck the car I have to keep paying rent till it's back in service unless I buy their insurance. I declined. Have to look that statute up. My fiancé and I went on a Sedona getaway for our anniversary and rented our car through Sixt. We were greeted by Tabbatha who not only gave us great advice on things to do in/around the area, she also upgraded our standard car to a luxury SUV after finding out we were celebrating our anniversary. The SUV had all the bells and whistles I've always wanted in a car, it was such a nice treat to experience while driving in AZ! I was a bit hesitant to book through this company after reading the reviews but for us, everything went as expected. Word of advice, when renting a car from any company, be sure to keep copies of everything and take before/after pictures of the vehicle. Happy travels! read more

I booked a car with this company and selected the pay now option... a week later I noticed my flight itinerary would put me in to pick up the car a day later, I thought I landed at 730 pm, my flight lands at 11:30pm, I'd pick up the car actually the next day because it would be after midnight. Instead of picking up Aug 20th it would be the 21st. The price difference was about 60$. They said they had free cancellation when I made the booking but I guess that does not apply to the pay in advance option, which I was unaware of. I went online to cancel, and I could not because I needed a security number. I called them and got the security number. The agent never mentioned a cancelation fee. When I went back to the website to cancel they said I would be charged a fee, but did not state how much. Keep in mind they had said FREE cancellation. I called the company back and they said I would be charged three days of my rental. I had the reservation for four days so they wanted to charge me three of the four days when I wouldn't even have used a car from them! When I asked her if I was able to change my reservation because I noticed the date change, she said I would be charged a 28$ fee. What a scam! Watch out people! Don't book at all and if you do DO NOT SELECT PAY NOW OPTION! Their online service is also a hassle, back and forth not easy to use, because you can't access the info without a security code and you have to call and be on hold. What a waste of time! read more
