Rumor of European origin sets high expectations. Not familiar with the company name so this was our first time renting with the company, and we were pleasantly surprised with the vehicle available. We are a group traveling to flagstaff and back. This ford 12 passenger van (transit 350?)was a looker for sure. Seemed somewhat new ,2014 or 2015. However, the seats were individually sectioned (rather than benched), which can be bothersome when driving for hours. Not enough cup holders and windows don't open when it gets hot. Do not recommend this company. They put a hold on our card for double the amount of the rental without mentioning that they were going to do it before swiping the card. We were then told that even if we canceled, it would take seven days for the hold to come off anyway, so we were stuck. They kept lying to us by saying that this was "standard business practice" for car rental companies, but when I pointed out that Enterprise, Avis and Hertz never did this to us, the conversation was pretty much over. They then brought us the car, which they left in the garage away from the kiosk instead of driving it up like they did for the customers before us. The attendant scurried away quickly, and we soon found out why. The car was dirty inside and out. The a/c had a moldy smell. This was the Ocean Drive location in Santa Monica. read more

I had the best experience with SIXT on my recent trip to Phoenix. I have used many other car rental companies at the airport in Phoenix and this was by far the best experience ever. The young woman who greeted us at desk was so friendly and helpful as was her manager that stopped by to engage in conversation. (It's really nice to be greeted with people who actually smile and whose goal it is to find you what you need.) She suggested an upgrade after carefully listening to us (no pushy sales pitch) and offered us a beautiful Volvo which was clean, new and so comfortable to drive for a very fair price. The whole process from start to finish was so pleasant and surprising. I hadn't heard about this company and have to admit I was skeptical. Highly recommend. read more

I rented from Sixt in Europe and decided to give them a try here in the US. I had an excellent experience at their Phoenix Airport office from start to finish. I was only sorry that I learned too late that they have a new location in Scottsdale (could've saved a few bucks not renting at the airport). Car was in excellent shape, counter was fast and easy (not to mention the best pricing compared with the local competitors). I used my Visa card insurance benefit as my insurance and was able to keep the total cost down. If their prices stay competitive I will use them again. read more

I exhausted my search for a car, originally wanting an AWD vehicle and found the Sixt site. Having no luck finding what I wanted at a reasonable price, I liked that Sixt offered premium cars at what seemed much lower rates that the other rental companies. Read reviews both positive and very negative and decided to take my chances and go with it. Overall a good experience. I reserved a Mercedes GLA and since I really wanted to give that exact car a try, I emailed the company asking that if it was truly available, could they note to be sure I could get it. I received a reply but it was a fairly stock answer, saying they'd try but could not guarentee. When I arrived, my chosen vehicle or any in that class was not available and I ended up being upgraded to a BMW X5, which would have cost 3x the money elsewhere. Yes, it was pretty nice, but honestly I would have preferred the smaller versions, but I realize others would have jumped at this. The cons are: 1. I pre-registered all our details in order to quicken the check-in process. It seemed to make zero difference, so I am unsure why anyone should bother. However at 8:30 pm on a Fri night, there was no line, so the check-in was pretty quick. 2. The employee was nice, however, tried first to up-sell us to the next higher class level for an additional $250 and offered us the very same BMW X5 we ended up with, pretending he had no clue what we reserved. It was pretty obvious, he was not a great actor. After I pointed out I already reserved the Mercedes GLA, he shuffled around and then said, well it seems we don't have that class available so you're in luck and being upgraded (!). I did not appreciate him trying to get us to pay almost double when they did not even have our chosen vehicle in stock. 3. Given the cost of a BMW X5, I was surprised it did not have USB ports or Sirius radio. Not that it would be a deal-breaker, but I find them available on fair less expensive vehicles at other agencies. Having said this, all else was a good experience, drop off was super quick and easy and I'd rent again. Just don't let them talk you into spending 2x as much! read more

BEWARE! Deceptive rental tactics! Made my reservation online. Was quoted $195.84 for 5 days. But ended up paying $539.00! Upon arrival, the young salesman recommended we upgrade since we were going to Sedona. He said "only $20.00 more you can get a sedan". I wasn't aware it was $20.00/day x 5! Also, when I was asked about insurance, I said "Oh, I already have car insurance so I'll WAIVE that". Instead, I was charged the "Loss Damage Waiver" another additional $24.99 x 5/day! So, my major mistake was not reading the fine print of all these charges and signing my contract. I was exhausted from traveling and just wanted to get going on my vacation. Never again will I ever trust the salesman and leave in haste. My complaint is the way the salesman used DECEPTIVE words and did not take the time to CLARIFY my additional charges. I feel he took advantage of "the typical tired and distracted tourist". When I called Customer Service once I looked at my Credit Card charges, they were not sympathetic or understanding at all. Their attitude was, "Next time, read the contract". I wasn't expecting any kind of refund, because I take full responsibility of signing the contract, I was hoping this company would at least express some concern over the way this was handled and assure me that this type of "selling" would be addressed. read more

A pleasant surprise. I had read reviews of Six, not always complementary. I had avoided them. i was placed with them after a Priceline offer. I went in paranoid, and much to my surprise, i was greeted quickly, with a smile. When they were out of my level of car, they simply upgraded me at no charge. Was waiting for the argument, as I rejected all "upgrades". No sweat. When I returned the car, the gas gauge showed less than full. I said is has ti be the gauge. They charged me for 3 gallons, and when they couldn't add any more later that day, the credited me. I had help with luggage. What more can I say. I just rented a Mercedes or Jaguar again, at a special rate they emailed me. And at less money that any other rental site or deal even for a midsize Ford or Malibu. I will see the same employees and can't imagine not having the same service. Looking forward to it. read more

Car rental doesn't get any worse than Sixt at Tampa airport. I had a reservation for a compact car and arrived about half hour after the scheduled arrival time. Would have been earlier if it weren't for waiting more than half hour for their shuttle as the flight was early. Frantz told me I was more than two hours late and that my reservation was cancelled. When I told him that was false he said he was going to do me a big favor and upgrade me to mini van. I told him that it wasn't an upgrade and had no need for a van. he went on and on trying to convince how wonderful this vehicle would be since it held 8 passengers. When I said that I would really like what I reserved he said he was now canceling my reservation and looking on Priceline to find me something better. Two and a half hours later I was taken to a third place and had to pay almost double the rate I had originally booked. When I asked for the Sixt owner or manager I was told that there was no one above him that I could talk to as he was the manager. he was dishonest, rude and completely inconsiderate. He seemed intent on trying to assure me that other car rental companies had to adhere to their reservations and yet felt no obligation to put me in one of the many cars on his lot. It was really all about not wanting to honor their reservation. Their office location was dirty and had these tacky orange lights everywhere. Frantz wore this orange coat and tie that was equally tacky. I have been renting cars for over 40 years and it doesn't get any worse than this! What a horrible way to start a trip. read more

I kept seeing Sixt cars like Mercedes, BMW,and Audi for cheaper than standard Chevy and Ford cars, so we thought why not try it out. We rented a fun, sporty little Mercedes for a few days while attending spring training. It was awesome! It's fun to roll like a boss for a few days, and trust me, Valets treat you nicer, and women love a nice car! The line at the rental desk moved faster than others nearby, and we were on our way very quickly. Upon return, the attendant took a look at the fuel level, the windshield, and a quick look at the inside and outside, said it looked great, emailed my receipt to my phone, and I was on my way, again while others were still in line waiting. I travel to Phoenix at least once a month and always pass by Sixt counter never stop by because I thought they are a SUB car rental agency Where they rent you an older model cars but this time I needed a car and the rates where so high because of the spring training so I used Hot Wire looking for the best deal and they selected SIXT. I didn't like that but it was almost $120.00 cheaper than the agency that I do business with so I went for it. When I got there I was treated very well and the agent hand me a key to Mercedes E350 much better car than what I ordered. So I went downstairs thinking of a high mile older car I was shocked to find a band new car with 4000 miles fully loaded. I pick up the car and used it . The return was very fast all their personal handled me with TLC checked out the car e-mailed me my rec'd and I was on my way. I left my car charger in the car and the agent came after me and gave it to me. This is service. Every one was nice a courteous and friendly. I recommend every one try it. I am also hoping that this is not one of "first time experience " and that they will treat me like this always. Otherwise YELP will get another write up. read more

I rented a Hyundai from this company, it only had 5 miles on it. The counter people were pleasant and offer you the same BS upgrade all the companies do, nothing special ( a little advice Sixt, try offering free upgrades, don't try to charge 10 dollars for a bigger Hyundai, possible 3 in longer car with less gas mileage is not worth it, plus I believe people might be more comfortable with a choice like Camrys that you have advertised). The guy out in the lot was most energetic (he went as far as to tell me the history of the company) as well as the car rental return lady. Their prices were great, although not true to what I agreed to. They offer you two price selection, with an alternate lock in your price option, which is what I have a little problem with. What I agree to paid and what my credit card was charged was about almost 20 something dollar difference which was steal cheaper than the competition, I will have to look over the agreement again when I get some time. I had never heard of this company and to research and read the reviews in Europe, they were horrible, but I still decided to take the chance because it was short notice and on a budget as well as the reviews in the United States were favorable.The lot guy and myself discussed this as well. I was ready to go over this car with a fine tooth comb after reading previous reviews from Europe, but the attendant help me relax when he told me this car only had 5 miles on it, but the return lady, I felt the need to walk around the car with her, making sure she didn't mistake mud for scratches, but I understand she was just doing her job. read more

I was a bit worried about using Sixt due to some the really brutal reviews here on yelp, but I have to say it was an excellent experience. I came into Phoenix late on a Wednesday night, and saw that the line was pretty long at the three small rental car places that share a booth. As I walked up though, the lines were for the other two places, not Sixt. I walked up and was out the door in my car in about 10 minutes. The price was fair, about the same as all the other rental agencies. Where Sixt really wins is that they have some very fun cars for rent. For the same price as a Chevy Malibu at one of the other rental places, I was able to have my choice of a Mercedes CLA, or an Audi A3. I picked the CLA, and had a shiny black Mercedes with sunroof, for a long weekend. The car had about 2,000 miles on it and still had that new car smell. Dropping off was easy, the whole experience could not have gone better, I will use them again. read more

It is not often that I take time out of my busy life to take the time to post a review, but when service is above and beyond I must post a review.I have rented cars all over the world on a regular basis. I read some negative reviews about renting a car from Sixt in Italy,so I was apprehensive about a reservation I had already made. Their rates were the best so I decided to take a chance on my two week rental starting in Pisa Italy. When I arrived at their rental office at the Pisa airport I was cordially greeted by an agent (Marta) who pulled up my reservation and went through all the details with me. She suggested I take a Fiat diesel which would be a lot better on fuel, which I did. When the paper work was completed She escorted my wife and I to the vehicle and went over all the details of the vehicle(amazing service). My wife and I drove around Italy and Croatia for the next two weeks. Near the end of our trip I received an email from Sixt giving me the exact location of their rental return at the Rome airport where we were dropping off the car. On arrival at their return office at the Rome airport we were greeted by a friendly agent who gave us our receipt for the rental and he gave us directions as to where we needed to go. With such great service and attention to every detail I strongly suggest that anyone renting a car in Europe put this company as a first choice. I really thought I had a new rental opportunity for my frequent trips to Phoenix. NOT. It was 114 degrees on the day I rented a car from them, and after parking it on a lot for 6 hours, I could see a small crack starting in the corner of the windshield. No chip, just a fine line. Stupid me, I called it to their attention when I returned the car, thinking they would want a record of it. The person who received it reassured me after I carefully showed him where it was that it was heat related and that I would not be liable. That was a month ago. Today I received an invoice for over 600 dollars. Of course, based upon their assurances, I made no attempt to notify my own insurance company at the time...which would have covered it. I also highly doubt that the windshield would have been "replaced" for the little hairline crack in the corner. Feels like a scam. read more

Booked through Hotwire and saved over 50% compared to other agencies. Had never used Sixt before and was a little concerned after reading the reviews. Check in was easy; zero pressure to upgrade or purchase anything extra. Extra driver was $10 per day, which is the only downfall as I'm used to spouse being free. The Cadillac ATS that we decided on only had 6K miles on it and was in pristine condition. Return was easy. They do a thorough check of the car (which would be expected when renting a luxury class vehicle). In under 5 minutes we were on our way. Will rent from them again. read more

I recently rented a car from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Sixt company for the 4rh time. And just like the first three, I experienced zero negative issues. First and maybe most important, the price was as low or lower than any of the other rental companies. When arriving at the Sixt counter (on a Wednesday morning) there were three employees with two engaged with customers which left a very nice and personable young man ready to assist me. (Seeing I was from outside of Chicago, he talked Cubs and Bears with me while he processed me.) The whole process didn't take any more than 10 minutes and I was on my way down the elevator to the garage. I want to stress that there was absolutely no pressure to buy extra insurance, pre-paid gas or any add-ons that I have experienced with other companies. Downstairs - again, no line as I gave my paperwork to the person in charge. She told me my car was ready and where it was parked. Had a short walk to the car and I was on my way. The car was exactly what I had picked out - pretty much brand new, clean, full of gas and ready to go. It ran perfect the entire six days of the rental. Taking the car back was just as efficient. A young may checked the gas, gave it a walk around, then showed me the hand held device showing I had no extra charges. I got my receipt via email within the hour. As long as the pricing remains competitive, Sixt will remain my Phoenix car rental choice read more

Great find at PHX airport. I prepaid for my rental, so that may have made a difference, but check in was simple. Took about five minutes and had only 2 people in line ahead of me. Got a Volvo crossover with 800 miles on it for the same price that Enterprise was renting the Yaris/Altima level. Return was also simple. I did not check my credit card but I understand that they put a hold of double the rental price on the car for the first few days. And yes, with any rental you should fill the car with gas before your return or they charge you a lot ($9/gallon is what the check in employee reminded me). We drove a lot on this trip so I'm so thankful that we found Sixt! read more

If I could give this group no stars I would. I haven't been able to make this post for a while, but now I have time. Please let my experience help save you time and stress. We saw that sixt had slightly better prices online so we paid for a car online prior to our trip. We traveled by train to see family, and when we got to the phoenix area had to make an extra trip to the airport to get our rental car. This was planned so although it was inconvenient we were OK with it. This is where the problems began........... we (my wife and two car seat bound children) within 30 miles of the airport a warning on the dash panel came on. The indicator was stating that the stabilitrack needed servicing and was shut off. We pulled over and the owners maual said to shut the vehicle down and it would clear if there was not a real problem. this was done and once again came on as we were getting to our families house. At this point we called sixt who informed us, after being on the phone with multiple people for approximately one hour, that if we were willing to drive the vehicle again they would be ok with that. We went to dinner with some other family and sure enough went off again but this time with an ABS light. So now my wife is getting mad because each time this has occurred the vehicle drives a little rougher. So this time she calls the roadside number where the sixt employee asked her if we could drive it back to the airport, and he was told no we were worried about our safety with the abs light being part of it. He then stated that we would be charged a towing fee unless we wanted to use our personal vehicle insurance (and we had paid extra for the sixt vehicle insurance). My hung up when he would not acknowledge that the vehicle needed to be swapped out at the expense of sixt. Upon calling back and being on the phone for another hour, we were finally happy to hear that the vehicle would be replaced as a first priority the next day. Well this changed our plans the next day because we were informed that the towing company would call when they were on their way. However with our VERY POOR customer service the day before we had little trust in sixt at this point. This meant we canceled the days plans to be close to the house. At approximately 1400 we started making phone calls again to find out the vehicle had never been sent and would be on its way soon. We decided to go to a local store to get something, and thank God we stayed close because when we returned there was the tow truck with NO phone call. This sadly enough was our most pleasant experience, of this rental, and the tow truck driver made it painless and even made my sons day letting him stay close as he exchanged vehicles. So now we wondered what would come next, but were hopeful with a vehicle that now drove well. Next day we got online to find that a fee had been applied to our account in the area of 200 dollars. When we called to figure out what was going on we were told that it was a returnable fee that should have been charged up front. Well based on our experiences to this point you could understand our concern. At this point we requested that we were refunded the day that we were unable to do anything while waiting to switch vehicles, and this was granted. Upon returning the vehicle we were given an invoice that was correct with reduction. This whole experience wasted almost two days of a five day trip and with a company that didn't even attempt to make it right (until refund was requested by us), we tell everyone we can to RUN FROM sixt. Don't let them ruin your trip like they did ours. read more

I had a 4 day conference in Tucson and decided to give Sixt a try regardless of the 3 star review here. I am happy that I have made the right decision. I received great service and a great car with a great price. The service was professional and fast. The line was short and there were two agents behind the counter. The agent explained clearly everything I needed to know. My original reservation, through Priceline.com, for a mid-size car was just $27/day then I was offered at the counter an upgrade to an almost brand new Cadillac XST for an additional $15/day. I was really happy that I had the upgrade. For insurance, I only purchased the LDW for $99. The pickup and the return were easy and fast. I will give Sixt another try next time. read more

I think rental car experiences are hit or miss at all locations but figured I'd provide feedback in case others find value in this review. We reserved a midsize sedan on Priceline for a trip in April of this year. We arrived to the rental counter and there was no line. The person working at the desk helped us right away. Our flight was about 45 minutes early but we had decided to see if our car was ready anyway. He initially told us our car was not ready but he could upgrade us to a BMW. We politely declined and said we would wait the 45 minutes for our reserved car. He called down to the garage right away and said they had a car ready for us. People get so fired up when rental agencies try to up-sell like this.... it's just the nature of the business and they all do it. Just say no thanks and it's not a big deal... try to relax. We waited a few minutes while our car was being washed and then got a Hyundai Elantra (or something) which was new and clean.... zero issues. Drop off was easy as well. The garage was well marked for returns, the guy looked at our car for a minute and we were on our way. We received our email receipt before we even made it up the escalator in the garage. So far I've had good luck with all my rental car experiences and everything went smoothly for us at Sixt. read more

Fueled up rental car the exit before the rental return. Returned with a full tank. The return rep walked the car and said everything was good, took my email to send receipt. A few days later was billed almost $38 for fuel surcharge. Called their customer service she said it was 4 gallons I was charged which was just over the courtesy waiving limit. So she had to email the branch for a possible refund if an error. I can tell you now the tank was filled less than 5 miles from the rental return. It is not possible 4 gallons short of a full tank that would be nearly 1/4 tank low. BEWARE OF THIS SAVE ALL RECEIPTS FOR FUELING AND TAKE EXTENSIVE PHOTOS OF PRE-EXISTING DAMAGES AND OF FUEL NEEDLE SHOWING FULL AT DROP OFF! Not to mention they had the incorrect mileage listed at drop off and return. Will never rent from them again will stick with larger brands that don't try to nickel and dime customers! read more

First time renting a vechicle from SIXT, prices weren't that bad but upon check in the agent was rude and told me my total was $411.00 for 6 days, same price I got from the email confirmation, instead he charged me double for 8 hundred and something, I was furious when I left and saw the charge, called and spoke to a customer service agent, told her about my first experience at check in and mentioned the charge, she explained to me the charge was doubled if I needed to rent the car longer then 6 days and will be refunded once I return the car, told her I understood and would've been fine with the double charge if I was informed of this during my check in, she offered to give me a discount for my next rental due too poor service, told her she did not need to waste that discount on me because I was not going to rent from them again. On the day of the return the guy that checked the car was great, told me it was better for me to refill the car with gas and return it so I wasn't being charge 180 something, he let me go refill and changed my return time so I wasn't charged extra for being late. Overall, poor service. If it wasn't for the check in experince I had I would've been a happy and returning customer. Will not be renting from them again! read more

I read reviews before booking, and Sixt was in the same price range as Payless and Fox. When we first walked up, we saw a huge line. Then we realized it was for Fox, and Sixt had no line. And I got a free upgrade as they were out of economy cars and spent the week cruising around in a 2017 red Camaro convertible! Check out and check in were both a breeze. Two thumbs up!!! read more

After writing my review I was contacted by Sixt inquiring about my experience. Although they never addressed the tire warning on my vehicle, they did resolve the miscommunication regarding the overcharge. They credited back my card for this and I am happy camper. Their resolution of my complaint was resolved very quickly and would use Sixt again. Getting their premium SUV for the price of non-premium is big a perk. read more

This is the first and also the last time I rented a car from Sixt. I refused to take a first car because I found some unrecorded damages. They gave a second car which had a small crack in the windshield but it is too dark to see in the covered parking garage. However, a few minutes after I drove out off garage, I noticed the crack and immediately called Sixt to report it. A man from Sixt told me that he would add the windshield crack into the system and I would not be responsible for it. To make sure, I drove back to Sixt rental facility and talked to the man who gave me the car. He also confirmed that windshield crack was recorded in the system. A month after I returned the car, Sixt Claimmanagement-USA email me a bill for repairing the windshield + a day of rental. I replied to the email and told them what had happened. They insisted that the damage was not in the record so it is my responsibility. So, please beware when you rent a car from Sixt. read more

Where do I start, I was planning a trip to Phoenix & decided to rent a car from Sixt, reserved a Mercedes, When I got there they tried to put me in an Audi, said that they didn't have any Mercedes left, after about a few minutes I was going to cancel the reservation, lo & behold they came up with a Mercedes, but there was going to be an additional charge, my original quote was around $270 with tax included, by the time I left I was out of pocket around $570, the worst part of this whole thing is that because I received a minor traffic citation( which I paid to the city of Phoenix) I received another bill from this company for $40 saying it was an administration fee for processing the ticket, words cannot describe how disappointing this endeavor with this company turned out, I don't appreciate being lied to, when I called the company they transferred me to some department that said it was in the contract that I signed when I picked up the car, I have that contract, read it, & don't see it, then I asked to speak to a supervisor, was told two different lies, wasn't available due to a meeting, then was told that they weren't there, was told to send an email to the supervisor , I am done wasting my time with them, a sad excuse for a service company with really bad customer service. read more

Before renting the car online I called SIXT and was very surprised to get a representative that spoke slowly and clearly, with no heavy accent, so I did not need to have her repeat the information. I do not recommend this car rental company. I would highly recommend using a car rental brand that you recognize or has been around for years like Budget or Enterprise. I booked Sixt rental car during the Christmas holidays 2016 (busiest time of the year). Most SUVs were all rented out. During this busy time of year, it's almost expected that flight delays would occur- well it did with ours. Our flight was delayed a couple hours and we didn't get to the counter to claim our rental SUV until 3 hours from the time I was to pick it up. We then find out, they gave away our car booking. Would NEVER recommend this company. Rented a vehicle, returned with no issues. Received a letter claiming damage that occurred during the rental period. Nothing noted when it was check out OR when it was returned. According to them a chip in the windshield. Interesting charges for a chip... $61 loss of use, $35 repairs, $15 administrative fees.
