In my line of work I travel extensively so to state that I am an avid renter is an understatement. My experience with Sixt started of with getting down to the garage and being handed over a set of keys to the car I was about to have for a few days. One would think that they go over the cars before handing them over to the next customer, this is not at all the case. The car I was handed had been in an accident and had a huge dent under the back door on the passenger side. One would have to be blind not to see this, had I not noticed this and driven out I would have been responsible for this claim, I'm sure of that! I was handed over another car after much delays and waits but finally I was good to go, so far this story is good. Upon my return I was in a hurry to catch my plane and walked away leaving my brand new sports coat in the back-seat. Before checking in I went online and filled in a missing report and expected them to send it home to me as the other major rental car companies offer. Yet Sixt has a different customer policy, their policy is to keep what ever is left behind and what is even more annoying is their lack of customer service. I never got a call back informing me that they never found my coat etc... After 3 weeks I call and follow up where the let me know that there was never a missing report filed, this is very strange as I still have a screen shot from my phone saved confirming that it was done. They apologize and file a new missing claim where they state that I should hear from them withing 24-48 hours. Two weeks pass and that's when I finally get a call from someone in Phoenix that states the obvious, we are sorry but we were not able to locate any sports coat!!! Duuuh I already figured that out... This company is dishonest and not trust worthy in addition they do not even care to follow up on your request, for that reason it is my strong recommendation to rent your car at one of the major chains; simply because things work with them and they have honest people working for them.... ***(Reply to The Pathetic Respond) After have waited for 5 weeks before you concluded that no sports coat had been found you now are suggesting that I may have lost it during I rented the car?? I must ask, did you read the review??? Immediately after leaving the car I knew it was in the car I was siting on the bus on my way to the airport from the rental car center and filing a lost and found report on my phone!!! It's also quite interesting to see that it takes you 5 weeks to call me back and let me know that your honest staff has not been able to retrieve anything yet it takes less than 3 days for you to respond to my review when I decided to share my horrific experience with the rest of the world. That alone says a lot about the integrity that your company stands for. Worst Car Rental Agency and Customer Service Ever-- Never again will I rent from Sixt. We rented a Cadillac SUV and the A/C went out 4 hours away from from Sky Harbor International. When we called customer service on this issue we were disconnected 5-6 times. The only message we heard each time before we were put on hold and the disconnected was we had to return the vehicle to Sky Harbor International to exchange the vehicle because it was the only location in Arizona. As a result we lost a day of our trip returning the vehicle to the airport. Considering we had to drive all the way back to Sky Harbor 4 1/2 hours from our location we did not fill up the tank before we returned it. I advised the attendant of this and he said don't worry about they will take care of it. Great right! They did the right thing. When I went up to the registration desk I expressed all of my frustration, the driving back in no A/C, the disconnected phone conversations, the loss of a day of my vacation, and the exchange for a downgraded vehicle since they did not have the same vehicle available and he said this issue was escalated to management and some remuneration will be forthcoming when I return my vehicle. Upon the return of the vehicle the registration desk was closed. We tried calling (the 24/7 line) it too said they were closed. When we got the final invoice it was more than the quoted price on Orbitz. It has now been 2 weeks since we returned home from PHX. After around 3 stern emails (which received automatic triggered responses saying thanks for the email), 4 calls to their customer service department where very little attention to detail or follow-through occurs, I was told a 30% discount was applied to my bill. It was explained they ended up charging for the gas (around $69.30 to fill a quarter tank at $8/gallon) because the Cadillac was not full on my return and the 30% was not off the entire bill but only on the rental charges of the vehicle. The last email I received in response to my frustration and the lack of response was to give them time to review the matter. It's not that complicated of an issue, but apparently it is for Sixt--which only further evidences their incompetence. After all the calls I was able to get the gas removed from the bill and they only reduced the 30% from the vehicle rental charges. A very big hassle and still upset as I feel the loss of a day of vacation and needing to drive back to Sky Harbor without A/C on May 2 in 90-105 degree heat along with all of the other mishaps deserved a much bigger discount if you want to have customer satisfaction. read more

A wierd little company. I would have given them three stars as they really are no better or worse than other low budget rental companies. The car was fine. The reason I dinged them two stars is because: 1) They "misrepresent" their location on their website. They are NOT located in the Phoenix airport. Rather, they are located in that remote car rental annex you have to take the airport shuttle to. I haven't flown into Phoenix in many years and wanted to avoid having to take a shuttle to get to my car rental. I went with them as an unknown company because I thought they would be more convienient. However, they "misrepresent" on their website about being located in the Phoenix terminal. 2) The price they attempted to charge me was $150 higher than what I reserved the car for online. The reason for this is because they assumed I was going to return my car after 11:00 am on the last day of my vacation there. Of course I corrected them and they removed the charge, but I've never had this problem reserving a car online from budget or enterprise (thank goodness I had the printed receipt with me from home as the staff seemed ready to debate me rather than correct their mistake). For some reason their computer changed my return time to 12:30 pm all on its own. So, Sixt is generally ok to go wtih, if you're ready to put up with a little "misrepresentation" and having to double check your reservations/fees/etc (if that is truly how you want to spend your vacation). Personally, I'm going to go with Budget or Enterprise as they don't misrepresent where they are located and don't independently change my reservations. As I said, I would have given them an average 3 stars if they wouldn't have spent my benefit of the doubt. I did not ding them for the 15 minute wait I had because one of thier agents was busy texting. I did not ding them for the fact that they are located the farthest from the entrance from the rental center. I did not ding them because all of their return parking spaces for return were filled. If you want a hassle free vacation, don't give these guys a try. Stick with a company that has treated you right in the past. read more

During my rental with Sixt at Phoenix, AZ Airport (7/16 to 7/22), I encountered a pre-existing issue with a patched tire leaking air. Despite following Sixt's guidance, I was unfairly charged for a tire replacement and unrelated damages I did not cause. On day one, I refilled the tire to monitor the situation and reported it on day two. Sixt offered two options: drive 5 hours to exchange the car or visit a local tire shop. Due to time constraints, I chose the latter, where it was confirmed, the tire had been previously patched. I informed Sixt and asked if they needed the shop's details but was told no further action was needed beyond notifying the rental location upon return. A month later, I emailed claims management with a summary and had a call with customer service, where no mention of further damages was made. However, five months later, Flese, Sixt's claims company, informed me I was responsible for the tire replacement and unrelated scratches. Upon contacting Sixt, they confirmed the scratch charges would be removed (pending confirmation). Still, they maintained I was liable for the tire because I reported the issue two days after pickup instead of immediately. Sixt also stated I would have been reimbursed if I had repaired the tire, effectively penalizing me. This experience has been frustrating as I tried to act responsibly. Sixt's lack of transparency, miscommunication, and unclear policies erode trust, placing renters under undue liability for pre-existing issues. Sixt admitted that they do not inspect tires during rental checks, meaning such problems often go undetected. This places an unfair burden on customers to identify and report issues that should have been addressed beforehand. While Sixt initially seemed supportive, their handling of this matter has been disappointing. I urge future renters to proceed cautiously, as even if they try to do the right thing, they may be penalized. read more

I had never used (or heard of) Sixt until this most recent time that I traveled to Phoenix. I reserved and paid online directly through Sixt. My experience was fantastic from beginning to end. I walked right past the Fox Rental line, which must have had over 20 people in it waiting for car rentals (seriously). Breezed up to a way shorter line with Sixt. I waited less than 2 minutes before someone was able to help me. Service was fast, the rep was very nice. I'd never rented with them before so they offered a few upgrade options (they may do this all the time). I didn't need a BMW or Mercedes, so declined. But they still upgraded my car for free to a Volvo station wagon CX60. Car drove great and it was nice to drive a Volvo for a week. Paid the exact same price as what I planned to pay originally for a sedan. The price for a week was around $60 - $100 less than several other well known car rental companies I've used before. When you rent the car, you go downstairs and just pick up the car directly from the parking space. So you do have to check the car out by yourself in case you notice any issues. I had no problems and car was fine. You don't have the person walking around with you and pressuring you into insurance extras. They do ask upstairs while completing, but I just declined and had no issues. There is a guy at a desk there downstairs who can help you, but he's running around taking cars back in too, so isn't always at the desk. But you have your keys when you go downstairs, so I figured out I could just go get it after I was waiting for him at the desk and he let me know that. Car return was very simple and fast. I had no unexpected problems, no extra charges. Good service, good car, good price. I will definitely use them again and look for Sixt at other airports when traveling. read more

1 Star -- Document Everything Before Renting From SIXT I recently rented a vehicle from SIXT in Phoenix, and unfortunately my experience after returning the vehicle has been extremely frustrating. When I picked up the vehicle, it was dirty, and the parking garage was undergoing construction, which made it difficult to thoroughly inspect the vehicle under ideal conditions. I specifically mentioned my concerns about the vehicle's condition to the SIXT representative at pickup and was told not to worry about it. After returning the vehicle, I was subsequently notified of a damage claim. What concerns me most is the process. I do not believe I caused the alleged damage, and I am now left waiting for SIXT to provide the charges and supporting documentation so that I can formally dispute the claim. After researching other customer experiences, I was also troubled to find numerous complaints from renters describing disputes involving damage they say they did not cause. I understand every case is different, but seeing similar complaints certainly added to my concern about how my situation is being handled. My advice to anyone considering SIXT: take extensive photos and video of every inch of the vehicle before leaving the lot and again when returning it. Photograph the wheels, windshield, roof, bumpers, interior, and every existing scratch or mark. Do not rely solely on a verbal conversation with an employee--get everything documented. I will update this review once SIXT provides the actual damage documentation, photographs, repair estimate/invoice, and evidence supporting its claim. At this point, based on my experience, I cannot recommend SIXT. read more

We rented a car from Sixt at sky harbor phoenix for 11 days, with previously pre-paying for it using Sixt telephone hotline service. We are used to sixt as a large company in Europe and we rented a few cars from them before. In contrast, Sixt is small in the US and the Phoenix location has a relatively small fleet of cars available. Thus in retrospect, we were not surprised when we were told that our reserved car (at a better price than other companies') was not available in a non-smoking version. However, the employees of sixt were quick to respond to this problem and they offered us a very good deal for a ford mustang convertible. In the end we didn't take that car, due to lack of space in the trunk and we had to go back the next day to pick up a larger SUV, a new Hyundai Santa Fe at no extra cost than what we reserved originally (small SUV). In addition we got further reductions as during the booking on the telephone hotline we were not told about the various insurance options and about the 350 USD of self-payment in case of an accident for the insurance scheme we chose. Thus, overall we were very satisfied with the service sixt offered. Their location in Phoenix is small and new, but they're trying hard to improve their already good customer-service. Especially 2 sixt employees were very kind and understanding, Sara and Antonia, as well as the manager of the location called Brian. I had a wonderful experience, probably one of my best ever rental car experiences with this company, I never heard of Sixt before this rental in Phoenix. I fortunately found out about it when I booked my rental on hotwire and they had great deals compared to everyone else. When I arrived and I step foot inside the airports rental area all I saw were hundreds of people standing in line and at first my gut fell to the floor. I began looking around for Sixt And that took about 2 seconds because of their amazing modern and bright orange design they stood out like one rose in a field of grass. To my pleasure compared to everyone else they only had two people in line I was greeted by Scott who explained the background of this company and how they don't let customers over book so that way they usually never have lines which I loved. To me that was a great first impression, he also explained how they are the oldest rental car company in the world and I've never heard of it!! He must have been having a hard day before greeting us because you could see how my family's friendly demeanor and interest lit up his eyes especially when I gave him a box of local Hawaiian chocolates, he was very pleased in fact so that our little full-size car he gave us a brand new SUV. That's the power of niceness and this company will always have my business and that employee deserves greatness if you ever see this we want to say thank you?! read more

I always use Enterprise for my rentals but this last vacation I took , I decided to try " Sixt " rental company after a lot of research and reading of their terms & conditions . I pre-paid my full week for a luxury class 3 months in advance and overall it saved me about 40 dollars for the week . However, once I got to the airport and checked in , I was told they don't accept " debit credit cards " , even though they accepted it for the full week I pre-paid ! Then , they said they need a $ 2000 dollar deposit to rent all luxury class cars with no exceptions !!!! Nowhere anywhere did I see either of those rules !!! They were rude & when I asked about a refund , they said it will take a week to get credited back & she would initiate the refund for me asap ! I walked over to Enterprise & told them the story & not only did I get the same vehicle I wanted , they gave me a 15% discount for my trouble at " Sixt" !!! Wow , now that's customer service at its finest & what was I thinking going somewhere else for my rental needs ?? Enterprise is my only option now & every time !! So it's been over 10 days since I have been back from vacation and still no refund from Sixt !!!! I might have to escalate the situation to get it !! This has been & still is the worst experience I've had with a rental car company!!! read more

I had a great experience with Sixt, and am so surprised to read the other less complimentary reviews. I'm from Boston, and had never heard of this company, so was pretty wary when Sixt turned out to be my best price on Hotwire. I flew to Phoenix to visit a sick relative, and had to drive to Tuscon. I came 14 hours earlier than expected, because my relative had taken a turn for the worse, was in the hospital, and was on her way to the hospice unit. The Sixt representative was the only agent on duty at 7 in the morning in the entire car rental building (I never believed their saying that they're open 24/7, but they are) and she could not have been nicer and more efficient. She asked all the right questions, was sympathetic and flexible on the changes necessary, and did not penalize me financially. Amazing! She could have taken advantage of my situation very easily. My car was clean and gave me no problems, and it was easy to check out and in. I chalked it up to "The Germans just know how to run a company." I'm a senior citizen and don't generally use social media, but I wanted to write about this good company. Maybe this review will change some minds. I hope Sixt expands to the East Coast. Hotwire and Sixt collusion - rotten partnership to the core. I think it's very unfair to allow customers to book through Kayak to supposedly secure a special rate (which was comparable to other providers and $100 more than it was 12 hours earlier), and not allow customers to cancel. I booked this and tried to cancel 4 hours later (and prior to pickup) and when I called to cancel they said I couldn't. I'm sorry that's not your policy, but it's my policy to not pay for services that I never received and where no financial damage was done to HotWire/Sixt. HotWire/Sixt's business model is clearly deceptive, and your 'no cancellation policy' is at the expense of your customers. It's hard to imagine that HotWire/Sixt isn't inundated with complaints from customers about this truly horrific policy, which exploits the customer. HotWire/Sixt or the rental agency isn't out any money when customer's cancel, and in fact most likely have rented out the same car to someone else or it sits there are no one rents it out. You have not provided any service and therefore have not delivered your end of the deal. Truly a terrible business practice and company, they've lost my business and my respect. read more

Sixt has got a customer for life. Me and my boyfriend were stuck in Phoenix due to the originally company we booked our rental car in advance had been overbooked and ran out of cars. We were told we would have to wait at least 30 minutes to get a car (even though there were at least 40 other people waiting). On a whim, I saw the booth for Sixt, which I have never used before but they had great reviews so I thought I would try to see if they had a car available since we needed to get on the road as soon as possible. The gentleman at the desk, Adam, was more than accommodating while providing us with excellent customer service. I explained our situation and he went out of his way to figure something out for me and my boyfriend. Since I have worked with many car rental companies in the past due to working with travel bookings for clients, I have never had a more helpful or simple experience as this one. Instead of having to wait for over an hour at the other car rental, Adam was able to get us in a car right then for the same price as the other business. I am so thankful for this company and for Adam's service. I will definitely be recommending this company to everyone I know. read more

Unfortunately, car damage can happen to even the safest driver. A deer hit the side of the SUV rented from Sixt in Phoenix, AZ during my September 2015 rental, my insurance company covered the ENTIRE repair. Sixt then billed me for an additional $897.00 for lost revenue for 22 days; this is excessive since I am sure the vehicle would not have been in use that entire time. While I completely disagree with this charge it is legal in a court of law. Where things went COMPLETELY off track was an additional charge for $780.00 for diminishing the value of the vehicle … this is totally a bogus charge!!! The vehicle was already completely repaired by my insurance company; when and if this vehicle is sold the value will have been completely depreciated. Prior to an accident where there was CLEARLY NOTHING I could have done to prevent it, I would have rated Sixt rentals very high. This company has an opportunity to turn this issue around by dropping the additional unwarranted charges … to date nothing has been done. If Sixt truly cares about their reputation they would drop these ridiculous and excessive charges. read more

Even though I have had a lot of experience/rentals with Sixt in Germany, I was hesitant first to try the "new" rental car company in the US and was even "warned" by our travel agency, to better go with one of the incumbents. Fortunately I took the risk - this was THE BEST rental car experience IN YEARS! Sixt in Phoenix is extremely friendly, the employees do NOT try to talk you into purchasing insurances or the like, the car was relatively new (~8000mi), absolutely clean and working just great. When I took over the car in the parking lot, a Sixt employee accompanied me to the car and pointed out existing scratches and their reference in the rental contract and also asked me specifically to look for other existing damages - that never happened before with any other company. Returning the car was also just easy and great, the same day I already received the return protocol by email, 5 days later the paper invoice by postal mail to Germany. Did I mention that this was an Economy Car rental for just 40$/day? Sixt in Phoenix today is better than Hertz was 10 years ago, let us better not reflect on what you get there these days ... read more

Not sure what these other reviews are talking about in the past but my experience was very fulfilling. I felt valued as a customer all the way through the process. I found out about Sixt via priceline but went to their site and found even better deals. Saw the poor reviews and was very skeptical. Took a chance and ordered the Mercedes Luxury. I also called a week later i made the reservation and spoke about the issues i had read. The agent was very professional and reassuring going through all my questions. We picked the car up on 12/20. While all the other agencies had lines. I was literally in and out in five minutes. The agent even reference my follow up phone call and asked if i had any more question. Went down stairs, did a walk around and the New Mercedes EL 350? which had only 2000 miles on it. The kids loved it and so did my wife. Same price as an compact from the major companies. Try Sixt. Don't be put off by the negative whiners below. We just rented with them for 12 days during the holiday period from Sky Harbor airport. The price beat all the major car rental firms working out of the airport rental center. A temporary security deposit for the vehicle was placed on our credit card at check-in but that disappeared within a few days thereafter. Looking at the final total bill, we saved a lot and had a better vehicle-- a brand new luxury car for less than the price of a standard car at the big companies. The extra bells and whistles were appreciated as heated leather seats were needed during the worst cold spell to hit Arizona in five years! Check-in and check-out were a breeze and the staff were all friendly and courteous. As an American living in Europe for 20 years, I've rented cars from all major companies in both Europe and the States, and am pleased to find Sixt moving into the American market because of my positive experience renting with them in Europe. read more

First time I've ever written a review for anything online. My experience with Sixt was so bad, I felt that I had a responsibility to warn others about this company. The cars are fine. The staff and mysterious charges are not. From reading a number of the one-star reviews, I can tell you that they are not exaggerating. I had an extra $130 tacked onto my reservation that I had to spend almost a half hour getting corrected. I've never had this problem booking a rental online before. The staff seemed clueless on this upcharge issue, but since so many others have reported this problem here, I'm kind of suspicious of Sixt's playing dumb act. The check-in process was awkward and slow, almost missed the shuttle to get to my flight on time. If, on your vacation, you have a few extra hours and a high tollerance for aggrivation, then Sixt is the company for you. If you want to pay the same ammount without the hassle, go with anyone else. Spent 10 days in the AZ area. First booked through Budget at a bloated rate of $860 for an average car. Found SIXT and was out the door for $450 for the same "type" of car. Yes, I cancelled with Budget and paid their cancellation fee of $10. This said, we saved over $400 bucks! When we got there, they did not have the car we reserved (Camry or Charger). So they gave us an upgrade to an immaculate Volvo XC/90 at no additional cost. My brother who was also visiting the area went through the same process. He ended up with a SIXT rental after finding that they were 50% less than all the others. I've read the negative reviews on Yelp regarding SIXT and did not experience any of these stated problems. In any event, if I did have a similar complaint such as the ones stated, the savings alone would be more than enough to compensate for any inconvenience perceived. They'll get better over time as they work out their internal "bugs", or growing pains. Would I rent from them again - YES! read more

This past weekend Sixt had the longest line in the entire terminal, didn't have the car I had reserved, and the one I took I used for just 49 miles. Regardless, a few days after I returned home, my credit card was dinged for 6 gallons of gas. I initially assumed it was an error and not outright consumer fraud and contacted Sixt. The company confirmed I had put just 49 miles on the car yet insisted it took 6 gallons to fill the tank back up. Even their Customer Service rep admitted I returned the car with the tank at 8/8... full... and yet STILL charged me for 6 gallons of gas! Today I received an automatic notice saying a refund for the 6 gallons of gas would be credited back to my Diners Club card; huh... I'm not sure which Sixt employee is getting this refund because I have never owned a Diners Club card. Consumer fraud in the car rental industry is rampant. Caveat Emptor! and choose a company with a good reputation instead. read more
