I rented a Camry for the weekend of 7/17 to 7/19. No line when I arrived to the airport at 8:50pm and the gentleman behind the desk shook my hand and was very professional - that was outstanding. Unfortunately they didn't have a Camry so I upgraded to a BMW 5 series and I purchased the full protection plan. They explained the terms I signed And paid and then proceeded to grab my car. I went to the 3rd floor and they showed me how to navigate the vehicle, where the charging ports were, how to pair my iPhone with the car and where the gas tank was. This was Phenomenal service. As soon as I left I got on the freeway and the car drove like a dream. The car had a moonroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel and arial camera and backup camera for parking. This is the place I like to rent my car from because you really are getting amazing service without the long wait and with quality employees. read more

If zero stars were possible, that is what this review would be. This review is about Sixt Rent A Car as a company. The rental itself went smoothly, and the vehicle was returned on time and inspected by an employee who confirmed everything was fine at check-in. There were no issues raised at the time of return. 7 Weeks later long after I had returned the car I received a damage claim alleging that there was damage to the vehicle along with administrative fees, and additional charges in the amount of over $1500. The funny part is that the inspection that was performed 7 week after I had returned the vehicle and 800 miles away from my return location. This has to be the biggest scam ever, think about how many customers they do this to. Sure they offer low rental fees but now I see why, as a customer, this is extremely concerning. Once I returned the car and it was inspected and accepted at return, I reasonably expect the transaction to be finished. Receiving a significant bill 7 weeks later, is just unacceptable. I strongly recommend that anyone renting from Sixth rental car, also if you do rent, make sure to document the vehicle carefully at pickup and return and make sure they sign that there was no damages to the vehicle., also take photos and video, and keep all records even after the rental is closed. I bet you did not know that Sixt is the oldest car rental company in the world and was started in Germany. I have used them in Europe before and this was my first time using them in the USA. My first 15 minutes had me certain this was going to be a 1 star review. They had overbooked and said I had to wait till a car showed up... whaaat? It became a 5-star rating because of the people. Everyone I interacted with was just super nice, apologetic, and friendly. I wish I had taken down all their names, I just remember Fazil. Finally, I got a BMW X7 after a 30 minute wait which was not too bad. Nice job Sixt management, you have a great team in place but please update your processes to avoid overbooking. read more

Initially, I rented my car from a third-party website. (Highly recommend NOT doing this because making changes to a rental becomes impossible) When I went to go check in at the airport, my car wasn't available (they were all booked out) I then had to pay for an upgrade to get a similar car. Everything started off as a nightmare because the car we had picked up and paid extra for, broke down on me within the first hour of me leaving the airport. I went back to the agency and luckily a gentleman by the name of Izzi was there to take over my case at this point and put me into the vehicle of my dreams! A beautiful new Volvo! Thank goodness for this because My dream vacation was starting to look like it was turning into a nightmare. Izzi was able to turn everything around And turn what was starting to look like a nightmare into a dream vacation. They will do anything to steal money from you. I bought a protection plan online, but when I got there, they made me buy additional protection. That was already frustrating, but the worst part came two days later when I received an email claiming there was a "rear passenger-side door scratch, 2-4 inches (down to primer)," and that I needed to pay for it. The car already had many scratches all over it. I even called over one of the staff members to look at them, and he said that if I scanned the barcode, I could see all the existing damage. When I reviewed their page, I found many scratches and damages that I couldn't even identify myself. I asked for another car, but he refused to change it. When I returned the car, I was told after the inspection that everything was fine. The fact that they sent me that email despite all the existing scratches on the car makes me believe they use this tactic to charge people more money. I will never use them again. This place uses misleading tactics to make you believe their insurance is mandatory when renting a car. The sales representative was pushy and sneaky, aggressively upselling insurance I neither wanted nor needed, clearly just to earn a commission. She even pressured me to give her a 5-star rating on the post-rental survey. What was advertised as a $75 one-day rental ended up costing $145 after adding their hidden junk fees and the unwanted insurance. Our flight was 14 hours behind and we were completely exhausted after landing with our 8 month old at seconds before closing time. They offered to help us book a car last minute since we were past our time, they guided us with setting up the car seat, and they sent us an irreplaceable item we lost in the seat. From the beginning of the experience, starting at pick up, I felt well taken care of. I asked if there were any small SUV's I could be upgraded to, the agent let me know it is an extra $50 a day, I politely declined and decided to remain in the car I reserved. A few moments later, he said he could upgrade me to a bigger sedan that is electric and I quickly agreed and thanked him for his assistance. We go to pick up, we were quickly greeted by staff, swiftly provided keys to the car and we were on our way. The car was clean, interior and exterior and was a great car to be able to rent for the weekend. We ended up dropping our car the night before the return window and once again we were greeted by staff who opened my door, helped me out as I returned the keys and he did a walk through, gave my final invoice, and we were on our way. Extremely disappointed with Sixt at San Jose airport. From beginning to end it was horrible. I experienced Trey/ and upstairs I experienced THE TREVOR who told me not to worry assuring me so I felt comfortable enough. They all assured me I would have no problems upon returning the car!!! Boy was I in for the shock of my life! They rented me a premium car that had many scratches, dings in the windshield etc. Before I left I took photos, and could not enjoy the rental for fear of something happening, for the most part we took the bus. Upon returning our rental, two of their own representatives walked around the vehicle with us and confirmed there was no damage. We even took video and photos to protect ourselves. Days later, we received a false damage claim--a complete fabrication. I'm in complete shock! They scan in your drivers license so they have your personal information. I've already contacted my insurance company and attorney, and I will not hesitate to escalate this. As a public servant, I take consumer protection seriously and will be raising concerns about Sixt's unethical practices. In my opinion. They ruined my trip. This experience has been stressful, dishonest, and frankly feels like a scam targeting customers after the fact. Put simply, don't rent from SIXT. I never will again, that's for sure. This isn't pertaining to any particular branch, because my pickup and rental experience was fine. Note that this was in Italy so I don't know if it applies globally, but you can draw your own conclusions. After my rental was over and I returned the vehicle, they sent me a bill for damaging a wheel. I provided photos and videos (thank goodness I took lots of them) showing pre-existing damage. They then sent another damage invoice for a scratch on the door, which I had photos of as well. Apparently, they use cameras and an AI algorithm to scan the car after you return it, but if the previous AI missed the damage, then you're left holding the bag, even if you have evidence. At any rate, they then attempted to charge my card for the damage. Fortunately, Capital One didn't recognize the charge, and I was able to refuse it. However, the next day, they pushed a charge again and this time Capital One took it. I filed a dispute with Capital One and provided them the information and they issued me a temporary credit. Upon further inspection of the damage invoice Sixt sent me, it showed that both the door and the wheel damage were there during pickup. I sent both Sixt and Capital One that information (which Sixt had provided to me in the first place) and asked that they drop the issue. Capital One said that they had resolved the issue in my favor. Excellent. However, a few days later, I started receiving calls and emails from a collection agency in Europe. I'm still trying to work through the issue with Capital One as a mediator. Bottom line: Don't rent from Sixt unless you buy their extremely expensive, $0 deductible insurance or unless you enjoy being harassed by European debt collectors. P.S. I'm always skeptical renting from new locations after reading reviews. I have to remember that some people post reviews to vent their frustration. I decided to give this location a try after seeing their rates much cheaper than other rental companies. I was able to score a great deal reserving an extraordinary suv which Sixt states is a BMW X5 or equivalent. Showed up a little earlier than expected and had to wait, but they were able to get me into a 2024 BMW X6. What a beautiful suv. Did I mention cheaper than a standard suv at other rental companies. We made a reservation and paid for a compact car and when we arrived at 8am from our flight they said they only had a 7 seat suv available for us even though we had already paid and confirmed the compact car. They said if we wanted to change the car for the only sedan left which was a BMW we had to pay an additional fee. They said that's all they could do and that they couldn't let us know when another compact car or similar vehicle would be available. They had poor customer service and did not take any accountability for the fact that they had already charged us weeks before our flight. We are currently waiting to get our money back. The sales rep tried to put us in a different car , 3 times higher that what we paid . And at the end the sales reps said that he cannot help and told us to leave. I returned my car with a coat in the front seat, that is worth over $1,000 dollars. I realized it after 15 minutes, when my brother arrived to look for it, 5 minutes after, it was magically "gone" and they couldn't find it anymore. I had a really disappointing experience with SIXT and will never rent from them again. After returning the car in perfect condition, I received a notice claiming there was "damage" to the vehicle. They listed seven tiny scratches--all of which were clearly there before my rental. These marks were barely visible and would have required a magnifying glass and perfect lighting to even notice. It feels like a predatory tactic--targeting customers with pre-existing wear and tear and calling it new damage. This is not just bad service, it's dishonest and greedy business practice. I've rented from many companies over the years, and this is by far the worst experience I've had. Rented a car here through Priceline and it has been the worst experience I've had with a Rent-A-Car company. First off I wasn't able to add another driver unless it's was my wife. Renting a car from SIXT June 2025 for 4 days and 5 hours was a terrible experience! I was quoted $339.43, upon returning the vehicle I was charged $1027.43! The hidden fees were exorbitant and when I called customer service, I was hung up on! I called back and was put on hold for well over an hour, since my daughter was the primary daughter on the rental, they wouldn't discuss anything with me even though I was the one that booked the car, paid the deposit and the invoice was sent to my email! The first time renting from them they let me wait on the lobby saying there's some issue with my booking, they weren't be able to match my name with my reservation number even though I showed them my confirmation email. I used to have nothing but good things to say about this location & service. But now, I'd like to warn people of a potential scam here. The scam is a damage alert they give you after you've returned your rental. It's happened 3 times. I usually drop off my rental before they open due to early flights. Anyways, the first time I had to pay due to damage that occurred and was unaware of. I bought 3rd party insurance which covered the costs. Thought it was a one time thing. A few rentals later, I got another alert stating there was damage. Mind you this was weeks after the return of the rental. I stated I had no whereabouts and the car appeared fine after return. No further communication from Sixt. After a few rentals later, the same thing happened again. The company reached out if I had any whereabouts of the damage and I said no. There was no further communication from them. A year later, I get a collections notice from them. You'd think they'd try to resolve or inquire more with me directly. I just think it's odd that they inquire about it initially. Then there's no response to my answer. Then I get a collections notice a year later. It feels like this location is scamming people to pay extra $ on damages they did not incur. Beware. Take video and pictures when you return your car especially if you return after hours. I'm giving two stars because the pickup experience was very nice, but they failed to give you the paper where you can document any damages on the car. I took pictures of the car, all around. I had to deal with Sixt Claim Management Team....and I will avoid doing business with Sixt at any cost. First, you will get an automated email with a "Damage Number" from them briefly explaining in writting the reason for their claim; "Below is a short description of what was found: Bumper, front middle scratch 5-10 cm (down to primer)" After you submit all the proof you have on hand, you need to follow up with them by email and phone calls. Important Note: The case is not consider close even after you get a final invoice from them. You must get a confirmation email from them that the case is close with not further action. "Having carefully reviewed your feedback and the details of the situation, we are pleased to inform you that there will be no further charges associated with this matter." We reserved a small SUV to move our daughter in to college in August. When we arrived to pick the car up, they didn't have what we reserved and tried to downgrade us. We insisted that we needed the bigger vehicle and they finally upgraded us to the higher level SUV. All good. Unfortunately, a week after we returned the car they sent a bill for $1800 in damage that we absolutely did not do. I've rented here at least 6 times. 1. If you are rented a broken vehicle they will ask you to unsafely drive it back to them. They have no road side assistance. I was rented a very expensive car that had all the warning lights in. When I got about 25 miles away the power steering went out. After 6 calls and an hour of waiting I got a very rude customer service rep on the phone who told me to drive the car back. I was here for 2 days on business and this would have ruined my trip. I parked the car and spent more money on Ubers because Sixt sucks. 2. They tell you that they have express pick up but the app doesn't work. You always have to go to the counter because their system just doesn't work. You can't update your credentials on the app. They will tell you they updated it at the counter for next time. When next time comes around it's the same issue. You complain but no one ever follows up. 3. Expensive. Most rental cars companies kist the price per trip when you select the dates. Not Sixt. They list the price per day. Which is often the price per trip for other agencies. This is intentional and deceptive marketing. I rent cars every week. Hundred or more per year. Sixt has terrible customer service and they don't care to follow up. Back to Avis from here on out. read more

This review is primarily for the company as a whole. The overall experience was OK. Booking on their website was easy. I opted to use the Prepaid service a few months ago. This turned out to be a 'bad' thing for me as you'll see later in my review. Our original plans changed and Sixt would simply not give us a refund. There was no option to do anything except book a different date. I would have been fine with a store credit but that wasn't an option. It was literally give them another date to book and that's that. We ended up going on a different trip and the car we booked should have been cheaper than my original booking (Luxury Class) but ended up paying an additional fee which didn't make sense. Whatever, it was better than losing my whole amount. The car was fine. A 2020 Hyundai Tucson Base. The lady at the counter didn't seem to know anything when asking her questions. The gentlemen working in the garage were great on the other hand. Very quick and responsive. Overall, the experience was not great. No doubt I'll be renting more cars in my future but Sixt didn't give me a reason to come back. They gave me reasons to look elsewhere, even if it costs more. read more

We rented a Mercedes Benz for one week while going on vacation. Spent almost $800. An hour into our trip I turned on the A/C as I kept smelling old cigarettes. Upon doing that the smell got worse. We stopped and purchased 4 car scents to try and remove the smell, when that failed. I called Sixt Rent a Car. I was transferred to second level customer service who told us they would give us an adjustment on our bill when we turn the car in due to the huge inconvenience of this odor. Upon receiving the email confirming our conversation when my husband turned the car back in they said they would get back to us. After several emails initiated by me, I just received an email 2 weeks after returning the car telling me they could give me a voucher of $100 on a future rental. This is not what we were told and agreed upon. Very dissatisfied by a a company who does not stands by their words and promises. We have rented several times from them both in California, Florida and in Europe. Rented a car from them but when we went to the counter they couldn't find the reservation. So booked again in front of the agent. He said he didn't have standard car that we booked (which he kept saying a small car). Had a mini cooper (which is big?) or a bmw (which I'd have to pay more). He said they need 24 hours to find a car. Have a reservation for today, called them to confirm that they have a car but fully expect shenanigans. I booked my vehicle via a Hotwire deal which didn't reveal the renter until after you book. I then checked the reviews here and was pretty worried after seeing all the bad reviews. However, I must say my experience with them was very positive. The price was very reasonable, pickup and dropoff was quick and easy, no additional surcharges, and vehicle was in great condition. I think a few of the bad reviews here are actually for the Sixt in San Jose, Costa Rica and not for this Sixt in San Jose, CA. read more
