The price was very reasonable, and I was originally quite impressed with your customer service when I called in to modify my rental timing. However, a serious concern arose on our way back. I noticed a dashboard alert indicating that the rear driver-side tire was about 7 PSI lower than the others. I pulled over at the nearest gas station to inspect it for puncture damage. While I didn't see any fresh punctures, I did notice an old patch located near the sidewall. My brother, who is a mechanic, informed me that patching a tire near the sidewall is unsafe and makes the vehicle hazardous to drive. When I returned the car this morning, I pointed out the patch to the representative, raised my safety concerns, and recommended that the tire be replaced before the vehicle is rented to the next customer. Instead of acknowledging the safety issue, he immediately asked me to fill out a report and claimed the car did not have a patch on it when it was rented to me. This was incredibly frustrating, as the patch blended in so well that he wouldn't have even noticed it if I hadn't pointed it out. I mentioned to him that since I purchased the insurance package, liability wasn't my concern; I was bringing this up purely out of a dispute for the safety of your future customers. Fortunately, I spoke with a manager before leaving. She assured me that she would pull the car into the shop immediately to have the tire replaced due to the sidewall damage. My frustration with the staff stems from their unnecessary accusations and complete lack of accountability. I have video and photos taken prior to the trip. I pointed out a major safety flaw, only to end up being treated like the wrongdoer. While the insurance I purchased covers the tires, being blamed for damage I did not cause is entirely wrong. Thankfully my only issue with my rental was I had to wait about 30+ minutes to get my car and there were only 6 or 7 people ahead of me. I was supposed to get a midsize SUV but they didn't have any so I was upgraded to a full size Jeep Wrangler Sahara. No major issues with the car but there were scratches on the outside and some stains on the inside that looked like they were from people taking it off-roading (not Fox's fault). Fox car rental has been bad. They have been the leading rental company that has never had a good day. They're comparable to when spirit airlines started scamming people over a bag. I walked through their doors at 12pm and it was the longest line. I wait 45 minutes to get through this line. I get to the counter and they tell me ifs another 40 minutes wait, what the actual fuck. My reservation was at 10 am. We have a wedding to get to. Paying literally 10 dollar more for a more reputable company is worth it. Plan better, as a business just plan better. I just arrived for a 3 day trip to Santa Cruz. I showed up at 4 pm for my reservation and I'm being told that they don't have a car ready for me but they do have an SUV if I want to pay for an upgrade. I say "yes if it's the same price I was quoted and booked."They tell me no it will be an additional charge and I have to wait 30 minutes if I want my original booking. This place is a scam!!!! I rented a car through a 3rd party website. Went to pick up car and they requested a $500 deposit for a 2 day rental. The website never mentioned this and I could not cancel my reservation. I ended up having to take the car , which the first car had wet seats , dents , broken frame around tires and smelled like smoke. I requested a different car and within 20 minutes of having the car , I stopped at a location around the corner to eat and the small back window was smashed in and they tried to see if there was stuff in my truck. As I was returning the car to get a new one I overheard the customer service rep low balling insurance coverage to another person. He was trying to sell it to me for twice the amount. I have coverage but my deductible is $500 and now I received their invoice which is $400. Interesting that's it's below the $500 deposit and deductible . Which this would prevent me from using my insurance or having a insurance claim record on their vehicle . It's also interesting the price is more than $200 for a small window on a Toyota Versa. My car was in the shop longer than expected and I had to rent a car quick cuz my previous rental was ending, and I still needed transportation for work etc. Fox was the cheapest option I could find online. Didn't expect much, the line was horrendous at the airport rental facility, waited at least 30 minutes in that line just to get to the front counter... but everything else went smoothly, they had my car ready, and actually I liked the vehicle a lot, a Hyundai with new safety features I was unfamiliar with, dependable and comfortable. Didn't run into any problems. Had to rent a car here a 2nd time within the same month due to ongoing issues with the car repair shop who was working on my vehicle. Unlike the first time with the super long line, this time it was after the holiday season, only one customer in front of me, no line but that one took long too (thankfully not 30 minutes long)... customers ahead of me just always seem to have problems, but not me, my time at the front counter was quick and easy (both times I rented a car here). So maybe I just got lucky... or maybe I'm just more prepared and take care of everything beforehand (I used Priceline to book in advance both times, and it has proven reliable). I opted to try a compact car for the first rental, then an economy car for the second rental because I wanted to compare the difference, and both cars were Hyundais in excellent condition and allowed for a smooth ride. The return process was easy in the airport car rental garage, staff took a look at the vehicle and emailed out the final receipts, no extra charges. I see all the negative reviews but I had a pleasant experience. Edward was really kind and helpful. I booked through a 3rd party and he saw I was not happy with the car so he offered me a midsize upgrade at a reasonable price. You just need to read and ask questions about what you're paying for, and decide whether all the add ons are necessary for your trip. Look up if you'll actually need the toll pass, make sure you fill the tank up before turning it back in & if you have your own car insurance ask if you can use that to cover it. Overall my experience was great, car was efficient especially on gas and the unlimited miles are so worth it! I was all over the Bay Area! I'll be using them again. read more

Staff lies to upsell insurance. I was in there this morning, and the team said that I wasn't able to meet Florida minimum with my own coverage. I already have liability coverage. They said it doesn't meet the floor to minimum. The Florida minimum is required to be covered by law by the rental company of $10,000 included in the cost of rental. How is it that I don't meet Florida minimums when it's there duty? Literally are trying to charge me $200 for extra coverage I already have. Not only did the car had crusty seats, I asked the agent if they had other cars available and they told me it was just downgrades. He told me it would save me $20 a day so I just went with it and added FastTrak. They snuck it in as an upgrade and didn't charge me until after I returned the car so I wouldn't notice. Look, I get it. We all have bad days. It's ok. But what's not ok is speaking rudely to and treating your customers like crap and then lying to them. My wife and I went to the desk only to have their employee, Adrian S., "help" us. My wife explained that we had already paid for a car and were here to pick it up. The agent stated he needed her ID and credit card. My wife asked why he needed the credit card as the car had already been paid for. Instead of just explaining why (and yes, there's a legitimate reason for it), he got a very sarcastic tone and replied "because I need it". I stepped in at this point and told him that he needed to provide a more specific reason before we just hand over our credit card. At that point, the conversation escalated. He rolled his eyes and became extremely rude throughout the entire transition. At one point when I told him he was rude, he stated that he was being rude because we didn't smile at him and we had a "negative energy". When we asked to speak to his supervisor, he refused to call him. We asked him again, he refused again stating the supervisor was busy. When we asked the agent for his name, as we were going to file a complaint, he lied to us and told us his name was "Pedro". Before we left, we spoke to a man who claimed to be the supervisor and he inform us that there was no Pedro and what the agent's real name was. After telling him that I wanted to file a complaint, HE wrote down an email address for us; the email address didn't exist. Luckily however, I saw a sign with a legit address on it. After reading reviews of other's experiences at this location, I'm sure there will be no follow-up regarding how they treat their customers. That's a shame. One last concern; they failed to do a walk around the car when releasing it to us, so we were unable to check for any damages. Most good/ honest car rental places will do this with you. I am supposed to drop off my car in a few days; let's see what they try to charge me for when I return it. Bottom line: if you care, even a little, about customer service, go somewhere else. My partner and I were both pretty shocked at how rude, sexist, and bizarre our check-in experience was (the employee was named Edward). He tried to upsell us on the vehicle, the insurance (liability is covered by our credit card), and everything else imaginable. I kept telling him "no thank you" and he told me to stop interrupting his conversation with my male partner: "I'm just trying to rent him a car." Unfortunately I have to give a star. I got there early in the morning and was friendly. Talking about CA in general and how expensive things are and I went with them because they were reasonably priced. Supposed to be about $280 for the week to rent. After talking, purposefully declining all extra charges, the guy behind the counter intentionally lied to me and said it is California law that I need to buy the daily liability coverage and I didn't have a choice. What I also didn't realize is he also tacked on a daily coverage option that I also specifically asked not to have. I did not realize this til after.... But the price jumped up to over $550 just like that. I was astonished but told I had no choice. I have full coverage on my own and did not want theirs. Let's get to the car... I believe a Toyota Corolla or similar. It was not great. Terrible driving, whole thing was scratched up and looks like they got it from an impound lot, and also apple car play and plug in did not work. I got to my hotel, did research that I in fact did not need it as I had my own coverage, and was able to review charges and attempted to call back (within an hour of getting the car) to get it taken off. I was told It is an open rental and then I would have to get it taken off after returning the car because they couldn't do it while I had the car. After returning the car, I was told to contact customer service. I sent a message and heard back a few days later essentially just saying, well you signed the sheet so nothing we can do. I would NEVER use them again. I'll tell anyone, might as well spend the extra money elsewhere... but don't give your money to this shady, terrible company. read more

After I wrote the last review, I almost expected no response. By the way, I had prepaid for a large SUV through Expedia. The reason why the agent at the counter at Fox was because it was a 3rd party involved. I had spoken to Expedia, who informed me that, Fox was closed and no one was there, at 6pm, and they could not access my account because they had closed it. 48 hours later, Expedia emailed me that Fox would not refund the money. The money that I paid Expedia, and Expedia had paid Fox, for the large SUV. Fox would not refund for the car, when they had no car for me to rent. The management's response to please be in contact with customer service at Fox is laughable. Fox car rental has a business model of renting cars to customers when they DO NOT have cars to rent!!!!!! No, I am not writing to your customer service. When your business model is rent out cars when you have no cars, I do not trust a single thing you have to offer. I wish I can zero score or negative. 1) NEVER NEVER use FOX Rent 2) If you have to, read the contract you are asked to sign very carefully because these people lie and cheat all the time! When I rented the car from FOX SJC location, I told the front desk affirmatively I that I didn't want Rental Liability Insurance. The front desk confirmed and then proceeded to ask me sign the RLI on the screens. I trusted his words and didn't check the contract copy. When I phoned the customer service twice, I got an answer that there was no refund because I signed the contract. Great way to cheat and steal money.
