The place is pretty small with roughly 10 tables to sit from. I don't recommend going with a party of more than 5 as the spacing between tables isn't as good. Banh Bot Loc(10/10): I like the chewy texture, but I felt like it lacked flavor. Bun Mam(4/10): I was very curious about this dish so I got it. Personally, I don't think it's for me. The Banh Beo here is incredible. Soft, fluffy, and topped with pork rinds that add the perfect savory crunch to the sweet nuoc mam. The jalapeño is extremely spicy, so be careful. This dish is an absolute must order. I rarely find Banh Beo made this well anywhere else. The Banh Bot Loc was alright. It was not my favorite from this spot, and I think there are better versions elsewhere, but it was still decent. The Bun Bo Hue leans sweeter than usual, but once I added lime and shrimp paste it balanced out really well. The portion of meat is not the most generous, but I appreciate that they give you a larger bowl so you can easily add all the veggies. The Bun Bo Duoi Bo only had one small piece of oxtail in it. The broth was just ok. The Bun Tom Thit Nuong Cha Gio was one of the worst we ever had. The grilled pork was kinda on the tough side and it wasn't charred enough. It was lack of flavor as well. There are some many other Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose that serve better food. My daughter insisted that we try out this restaurant that's serving "Huế" dishes. We came to check it out and it did not disappoint. Besides Bún Bò (or bún bò), we ordered bánh bèo, bánh ít ram, and bánh xèo. The bánh xèo was crunchy, the bánh ít ram was soft and chewy with the bonus crunch at the end, and the bánh bèo was right on with the right amount of crushed shrimp on each plate. I absolutely loved it because I now have options when craving Central Vietnamese dishes. I forgot to mention the Bún Bò: the broth was fragrant with lemongrass, and the spices were perfectly blended in with the broth. It wasn't that spicy; however, after adding in the extra chili, it was perfect. The restaurant is clean and the service is spot on. The parking for this restaurant can be tricky on the weekend, so plan accordingly. I definitely will be back the next time I am craving Huế dishes. read more

The ones provided seem to be the ones that are steamed in little bowls or pre-peeled because they didn't have the leaves present and was just in the little dish. Meat was nicely seasoned and there was this nice layer of oil brushed on top and garnished with green onions and the fried pork fat (tép mỡ). It is exactly what it sounds like. Not the best for the arteries, but amazing for the soul. Super crispy and adds a nice texture component. Bánh Nậm: 4.2/5 This item was inside of the banana leaf today and what it is is a flat dough with minced meat and protein inside. Flavor profile is similar to bánh bèo. The dough has more of the bite here and the finish is an opaque dough versus a translucent one. Gỏi Cuốn Tôm: 4.0/5 This dish was also quite average for me. The shrimps were pretty plump, which is nice. What made this dish was the dipping sauce. Their peanut sauce is quite good. Something I like is the consistency of it. Very thick and very peanuty. Leans on being almost too peanuty for me actually. I would have liked more of the hoisin sauce, but that is a personal preference. Bánh Bèo: 4.0/5 There's really nothing too special about this dish. It's essentially steamed dough. The dough also doesn't have much chew to it either. This one cut really easily. I think what makes this dish is the fish sauce. Super simple, but quite the good appetizer. I appreciate the hefty amount of the finely minced shrimps for that umami flavor. This one is also topped off with the fried pork fat for that texture component. That combined with the fish sauce is really nice. Bì Cuốn: 3.8/5 This was my least favorite of the flight. Something about just the bì standing alone as the protein for this dish seemed really off. Seems to be just a preference thing for me. The sauce is really what tried to save it, but it still wasn't my favorite for today. Filling, veggies, and vermicelli are all added into this roll. The size is a fair size too, so at least that's satisfying. --------- Quality: Fair Their vegetables inside of the rolls appeared nice and green. Love the crunch from the lettuce inside. The rice paper was still nice and hydrated, so they seem to be made to order, which I appreciate. Other items are probably steamed and made in advance and then just reheated. Makes sense since these may take a while. The food came out quickly though, so I don't imagine that being the case. Price: Average perhaps For the items that we got today, I believe the price is quite average. I say average because their rolls do seem slightly smaller than what I have gotten from other restaurants. They appear longer, but significantly skinnier. Perhaps I prefer this though because the ratio is better. For appetizers, the range is within $6 to $8. Entrees will currently range from $16 to $19. Service: Sweet They were very nice. Nothing too significant to note. Took our order, brought out the foods, and then we paid at the front at the end. It seems like ownership or chef has changed. The restaurant is clean and isn't cramp. I found the wait staff to be attentive especially for a Vietnamese restaurant. I find their quantity of meat and noodles to be the same as Hue. Their BBH tasted different from what I remembered and it has more shrimp paste (mam ruoc), giving it a more seafood flavor. Wandered in on Saturday for lunch because it was one of the least crowded restaurants in the plaza. Turned out to be one of the best decisions because it was actually a great meal. BÁNH BÈO: Served in a set of 6 small dishes with one pork chicharron and plenty of dried minced shrimp. Texture was chewy, not the best i've had? but not terrible! BÁNH RAM ÍT: 3 pillowy glutinous rice dumplings filled with pork and shrimp on top of a crispy deep fried mochi with a bit of filling also, which was so pleasant. I would order this appetizer again! MÌ QUÃNG: The star of the show! It is served with plenty of sliced pork, two large shrimp, sliced green onions, regular onions, in a light tomato based sauce (not soup)! It was not tomato-forward at all and had it not been for the few small pieces of tomato, i wouldn't have even guessed. It came with a piece of sesame rice cracker - not really crispy, more on the stale side unfortunately. But i feel like the cracker was negligible anyway. Returning for this whenever i'm craving it. Large portion as well! The table has a container of chili, lemongrass paste that is soo good. It's not a sate or chili oil. It has a thicker consistency with just the right amount of spice and a little citrus flavor to it. Really enhances the mì quãng noodle dish. The service was better than many restaurants and I did notice that the server/waitress would put on gloves to clean dirty tables and then remove them in the back when she finished cleaning. I even went back to Hue Restaurant and agree it's good, but something about Huynh Dining's BBH soup just tastes cleaner and lighter without compromising on the flavor. I've introduced this spot to some friends and their families and they agree that the quality of their food here is so much better. My bf loves their Shaken Beef. The beef cubes are tender, lean and not super fatty, well seasoned and cooked very well. Each plate came with a fluffy chicharron. 4/5* BANH RAM IT (3) $6.75 -steamed sticky rice atop fried sticky rice dumpling with fish sauce. Inside there was pork and tiny shrimp. The fried dumpling was crispy and not oily. 4/5* MI QUANG $15.95 -turmeric yellow noodle, pork, shrimp, rice cracker, vegetables and peanuts. The noodles were perfectly cooked, they had a nice bouncy chew to them. The broth was delicious, especially after squeezing lime and adding some chili sate. My husband thought it was a bit sweet but it was perfect for me. They gave a good amount of tender pork and 2 fresh shrimps. I liked how they put the veggies on the side so I could add what I liked, as much as I wanted. 5/5* BUN BO GIO HEO $16.95 -spicy noodle soup, beef shank, tendon, ham, pork and blood cubes with pork knuckle. The service was nice with friendly young workers that check on you and refill your water. The banh beo here is decent. The rice flour patties are steamed, a bit more doughy than I'm used to. The shrimp topping has a nice briney sweet and salty flavor. The fish sauce on the side is slightly sweet and just a touch of spice. The pork rind is definitely the best part because it adds that zest of fat and crunchy texture. The pork chop rice plate was perfection. Its everything you want. The pork chop is juicy with a hint of brown sugar flavor. The shredded pork is fabulous with a soft tender texture. The egg cake was sweet and flavorful with all the noodles inside. Satisfied all of my Viet food cravings! Decided to give this place a try because I was craving Bun Rieu. This place has a very similar menu from the restaurant right across called Hue, which I usually go to. Lots of the same appetizers and main dishes. It was pretty small and way less busy than across the street but the food was absolutely amazing. To start off, I ordered the Banh Nam and Banh Beo as our appetizers. Both were so amazing and had such a yummy ground shrimp flavor. Both were priced at about $5 each which was such a good deal. I also had a fresh coconut which was also very refreshing and sweet. For my main I ordered the Bun Rieu which had the be the best Bun Rieu I have ever had in my life. The tomato flavor was so rich and even the crab ball was great. I never usually get to finish my soup but I ate up every bite of this. My boyfriend ordered the Bun Bo Hue which he said was okay. Tried Huynh Dining recently, and it was kind of a mixed experience us. I got the Bun Bo Tai, and my boyfriend got the Bun Bo Duoi Bo. My boyfriend's oxtail was nice and tender, but honestly, the bun bo broth itself was just okay--pretty bland overall. They have ot sa te (Vietnamese chili sauce) on the table so you can add your own spice, but even after adding a lot, it wasn't spicy at all, which was disappointing. The staff was super nice, especially to our baby. Upon being seated, our waitress was quick to bringing out a booster for our little one. The rest of the staff was nothing but smiles when she looked at them. My family of four each ordered an appetizer and main dish. They were so fast with making our food that we didn't have time to finish our bánh bèo quick enough to clear the table. We felt rushed to devour our appetizers to make space for our Bún bò Huế. We asked but they couldn't slow down making/bringing out our orders. This may be our favorite BBH spot now. read more

Food here is pretty damn good. Comparable if not possibly better than Hue for some items. Saté chili here is definitely better than Hue. I think they sell it by the jar too. Food came out pretty quick. read more

I thought the banh beo quality was really great compared to Hue's banh beo which has gone down in quality as of recently (the consistency of the tapioca dough has changed at Hue). The bun rieu here was really tasty, and they gave a large portion for the cost. I would definitely come back to try their bun bo hue! read more

The bun bo had a lot of meat and umami flavor in the soup. It had just the right amount of spice without being too overwhelming. It was a really good portion and I felt full. The bun rieu was also tasty. I wish the crab meat was a bit softer but it was still tasty. read more

1000% better than Hue across the plaza. Do not waste your time waiting at hue. Omg I'm so happy I found this place. Banh beo and banh ram not pictured but best I've ever had. And the bun bo hue is exactly what it should taste like!! The lemon grass, the spice, everything in between. The banh nam was amazing. The service was excellent! This spot is so low key and underrated! It's in the same plaza as Hue and essentially serves the same dishes. There's never a wait either. The staff is so friendly here and service was super quick. We got the bánh nậm and bánh ram ít. For entrees, we tried the bun Bo hue, com tam, and mi quang. All dishes were made very well and full of flavor. read more
