This place has amazing broken rice plates, probably the best I've had so far in the Bay Area. It's located in the food court in the mall. The meats were very juicy and I love the variety in the different sets. The fish sauce was also unique because it had a little bit of chili which gave it a kick. Some of the rice plate came with the savory soup, which complemented everything. While eating, I found what appeared to be a piece of bandage inside the egg ham. I had already taken a bite before noticing it. This was very disturbing and raised serious food safety concerns. Definitely not the typical combination that I eat, because bánh hỏi is better known to be eaten with something like heo quay (crispy roasted pork belly). Quite satisfactory though. The portion size is smaller/less than what I'm used to, but it's a big enough portion to be eaten by two people or divided into multiple meals. The vermicelli was a good texture for me - it was just slightly over al dente. Protein wise hmmm, I will leave it up to your discretion, but what's provided is about ¾ cup of BBQ pork, 1 eggroll, and 2 grilled shrimp on sugarcane pieces. If y'all compare this to a fairly popular and well-known place like Cơm Tấm Thiên Hương, there's a significant and quite noticeable difference. Flavor wise - optimal. If you have a preference for a dryer rice grain, you'll probably enjoy the rice made here. This texture of the rice is just ever so slightly more on the dry side. BBQ pork was very tender, but had some bite/chew to it. Flavor was good - nicely seasoned. Portion sizes hmm given that only 2 pieces are provided, the pieces are quite small compared to other places. The fried shrimp cake has a nice crunch to it. Fish sauce was quite good. The color was nice/deep and consistency was good. There was just the right balance of fish sauce, sugar, lemon juice, and chili for me - chefs kiss. My SIL found this place. We originally thought it was in Vietnam Town, but it turned out, it was in the Grand Century plaza as a to-go stall type place. No worries. We arrived later in the evening so it was pretty empty. But we perused their menu, which looked like it had a lot of options, but it was really just different combinations of like 5-6 items. They have giant screens behind the counter showing photos of the items. They have communal picnic style tables, in front of all the food court type places, where we sat and enjoyed our food. If it wasn't clear from the name, they basically serve broken rice dishes. Though my SIL got a Banh Hoi dish, which is the woven vermicelli noodles, served with veggies/herbs and a protein. She got the grilled pork and added an egg cake. I think you eat it like a wrap. I got a grilled pork broken rice dish with the fried shrimp cake. I originally wanted the salted egg cake but they had run out. I had never seen a salted egg cake anywhere previously. Oh well. My pork was really tasty. It also came with a salad, picked carrots & daikon and a bowl of soup. It looked like a lot of food but I was really hungry and devoured it up. My hubby got the grilled beef with fried shrimp cake and shredded pork. I got to try the beef and it was also pretty darn tasty. He thought it was the tastiest Vietnamese beef, he'd ever had. So that's a nice compliment. My SIL enjoyed it so much, she went back and picked us up some takeout from this place a couple days later. I think we all ended up getting the grilled beef though.
