I usually order #13: Cơm tấm sườn, bì, tàu hũ kỳ. The meat is perfectly marinated and the fried shrimp roll is soooo crispy! My only tiny critique is that the shredded pork skin can be a hit or miss depending on the day since it is occasionally a little underseasoned, but the rest of the plate definitely makes up for it. Great quality & value imo, and if you stop by during lunch, they also give you a complementary bowl of soup! Com Tam Saigon's pork chop is really good and is a great alternative if you want to dine alone, something quick and a bit cheaper as well. I really liked how big the plate was. It justified the price of the plate. The flavor of the grilled pork chops was tasty and was tender as well. The tofu wrapped shrimp was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Heard about this place from a friend and I'm so glad to have been able to try it! Com Tam Sai Gon is tucked within the food court inside the mall with typical food court set up/ambiance - order at the counter, find a seat, pick up food when they call your number, overall no frills service. We went around lunch time and they had already sold out of a lot of items, including #81 and all the similar vermicelli items, which I was bummed about. However, we ended up getting two broken rice plates to share and they were also super satisfying! The bbq pork chop was really flavorful and tender, and I loved the fried shrimp cake that came with it as well. I would def come back to try the vermicelli plate and would 100% get a broken rice plate again too! read more

This place has amazing broken rice plates, probably the best I've had so far in the Bay Area. It's located in the food court in the mall. The meats were very juicy and I love the variety in the different sets. The fish sauce was also unique because it had a little bit of chili which gave it a kick. They usually don't have the best reputation, but I have heard through the grapevine that this place is quite good. Food: Bánh Hỏi Thịt Nướng, Chả Giò, Chạo Tôm (BBQ Pork w/ Rice Vermicelli, Egg roll, Grilled Shrimp on Sugarcane) **Allergy warning: Contains PEANUTS as a garnish** : 4.3/5 This plate has all the items you would find on a typical cơm tấm dish, but they provide bánh hỏi (woven rice vermicelli) instead. Definitely not the typical combination that I eat, because bánh hỏi is better known to be eaten with something like heo quay (crispy roasted pork belly). Quite satisfactory though. The portion size is smaller/less than what I'm used to, but it's a big enough portion to be eaten by two people or divided into multiple meals. The vermicelli was a good texture for me - it was just slightly over al dente. Protein wise hmmm, I will leave it up to your discretion, but what's provided is about ¾ cup of BBQ pork, 1 eggroll, and 2 grilled shrimp on sugarcane pieces. A question I asked was if they accepted card/apple pay. The answer was "yes", but the person who typically works that system stepped out and was said to be back within x minutes. My SIL found this place. We originally thought it was in Vietnam Town, but it turned out, it was in the Grand Century plaza as a to-go stall type place. No worries. They have giant screens behind the counter showing photos of the items. They have communal picnic style tables, in front of all the food court type places, where we sat and enjoyed our food. If it wasn't clear from the name, they basically serve broken rice dishes. Though my SIL got a Banh Hoi dish, which is the woven vermicelli noodles, served with veggies/herbs and a protein. She got the grilled pork and added an egg cake. I think you eat it like a wrap. I got a grilled pork broken rice dish with the fried shrimp cake. I originally wanted the salted egg cake but they had run out. I had never seen a salted egg cake anywhere previously. Oh well. My pork was really tasty. It also came with a salad, picked carrots & daikon and a bowl of soup. It looked like a lot of food but I was really hungry and devoured it up. My hubby got the grilled beef with fried shrimp cake and shredded pork. I got to try the beef and it was also pretty darn tasty. He thought it was the tastiest Vietnamese beef, he'd ever had. So that's a nice compliment. My SIL enjoyed it so much, she went back and picked us up some takeout from this place a couple days later. I think we all ended up getting the grilled beef though.
