Would give zero stars if it were an option. Bought $175 skates for my daughter. Was told they were leather and would loosen up. My daughter literally wore them for 4 minutes after falling face first because they were so stiff. We found out that they were actually vinyl, not leather, so we went to exchange them and they wouldn't return or exchange them. So they lied to me about the material and then wouldn't do anything after I called them on their lie and attempted to return or exchange them. Will never shop here again. Just another example of a local company that will now lose a sale to online sellers and then they'll complain about the internet ruining their business. Mirror time. read more

This place is amazing and I will be back for more skate gear as I progress. Not gonna lie, I was kinda anxious about going to a skate shop. I'm a total beginner and just was interested in picking up the basics to get started, but was a little not looking forward to people maybe being mean to me because I don't know anything about skating. But you won't find that here! Everyone at the shop is super kind and the woman that helped me pick out a beginner skateboard, safety pads, and a helmet was so amazingly nice! I really appreciated her kindness to me when I wasn't super comfortable and out of my element in picking up a new hobby. What a fun experience! Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff, great selection, great prices. And sooooo nice! I am a newbie to roller skating after a 30yr hiatus. I'm still trying to determine if the skates I have are the right fit, and I was encouraged to try on a bunch of roller skates (even though I didn't plan on buying a new pair just yet). I got new Atom Pulse outdoor wheels and new Reds bearings. I learned a lot! Thank you! Tuesday was beautiful so I decided to go skating on west cliff for the first time in a hot minute. I went to put on my skates and realized I never changed my wheels from outdoor to indoor. I thought my day was ruined until I remembered skate works. Pulled up, and it took less than 10 minutes for skate works employee "Kevin" to change out my wheels. Absolutely fantastic, saved my day. Sweet skate shop in Santa Cruz. The two guys working the store were helpful. It's not intimidating at all so this is the place to check our if you're getting into skateboarding or rollerskating. I was pretty surprised they had a good selection of quality Suregrip rollerskates in stock. They also have a wide range of protective knee/elbow/wrist pads. Ample amount of skateboards to also choose from whether you're into skating at the park, street, long boarding, or cruising. I ended up getting some Moxi Fundae rollerskate wheels and bearings. I could've installed them onto my rollerskates myself at home but they said they could do the installations for no additional cost. Within a couple minutes my skates were ready to roll. read more

Could not be the NICEST people ever. I know nothing about skateboards or the parts required but I was the errand runner for the day. Ten minutes of FaceTime and questions my SO got the parts he needed for his long board and usual skateboard. Additionally I walked away with some SUPER SWEET rollerskate wheels that glow in the dark and are smooth like walking on clouds. The guy helped me with my wheels and totally explained all of the things. Not only did I get the parts, for the SOs skateboards, but I learned a lot in the process. Again- SUPER PATIENT and did not get visibly annoyed with my million questions etc. Small and mighty store with a ton of things ceiling to floor. The sizing on the websites for moxi-Riedell are confusing and he had me come down and to try on some sizes he had in stock. Bill was awesome. He knew what I wanted the minute I said hi! He opened at 11 and had people already in the store and lined up wanting his attention. He helped everyone with a smile and friendly conversation. He only had a few "trendy" roller skates left and I was a lucky girl when the size 10 red suede Jacksons fit like a glove. I really wanted the blue wheels and was hesitant to ask because he was so busy but........ guess what?? The reason I'm writing this review is the customer service. From the moment I walked in until I left, amazing service. I wish I remembered the person's name who helped me, if you see this post, message me so I can shout you out. I'm a semi regular skater (skate everyday but not very well) but I've never gotten a big 10" 80s style board and came in to get one. Their selection isn't huge, but it's all really good stuff. Finally picked an amazing deck and then the employee was able to help and recommend the trucks, wheels, and even rail placement. They offered to set it up for me and I couldn't wait to ride it so I said yes! They set it up perfectly and this set up is my new favorite. Other than the customer service that I could keep going on about... the deck selection was good, sizes included 10"-7.5ish" and also some kid sized boards (completes), and a good selection of cruisers/longboards. They also sell some of their own skate works boards that look awesome. Good selection of clothing, got my kids some sweatshirts. Really cool skate works t shirts. Awesome selection of pads, they have them all. All of the good trucks, wheels, hardware etc, they have it. And they had my daughter eyeing some really cool vintage style roller skates. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I need some skate supplies. read more

Me and my friend were on vacation in Santa Cruz and don't know the area very well, and we we're checking out the skate shops in the area and skate works by far is the coolest. We got some sick stickers and some really helpful info on what parks nearby to hit for transition skating, we ended up going to the Scotts valley skate park they had recommended and it was great. With the help of the two people working *i can't remember names lol* their amazing and very kind attitudes and there awesome recommendations and knowledge made our experience in santa cruz 10x better!!! I've been to Santa Cruz twice and have stopped in at Skateworks both times. My first time, I was set up with a pretty cool deck and some hardware by one of their knowledgeable staff members. The second time, I just stopped in to buy a t-shirt. Dropping by Skateworks is always a treat. The chill vibe sets my mood for the day. First off, go Skate Works!! Now then, I visited the store with a beautiful lady friend 1.5 months ago. We walked in and Bill greeted us right away. He carried on with what he was doing and let us explore the store. It was my first time buying a longboard so I needed extra time on my own; he checked in saw that and gave us more time. Finally I made up my mind on a longboard and proceeded to the build. Bill is loaded with information and detail, good insight overall. I bought a Comet longboard for cruising and so far I am very satisfied! A month later I visit the store with my longboarding mate. He buys a board with the same satisfaction I have.
