Was searching for some seafood by a black owned business. It wasn't featured in Yelp nor advertised for black history month as a black owned business. Enough of the complaints about my favorite app. Skillet2Plate Soul Bistro is a find. We stumble on this resturant when we google black own resturant it came up. I wondered if Yelp featured them. It didn't. But they had a nondescript feature. On a whim, We had 2 plates of the Fried Whiting would have taken a pic....but it didn't last that long....delish! The sides we had was wild rice, Mac & Cheese , Cabbage and Candied Yams...OMG well seasoned and slap your mother good. Andre was friendly...and the business owner delivered the food...How many soul food restaurants deliver? THEY DO! And it was hot when you got it! The owner wore a mask and kept social distance and very professional! He even came with an invite to a comedy show at the resturant. Excellent. DID I SAY....THEY DELIVER!!!..... We took a road trip to York and I wanted to grab a bite of something different, that we don't have in DC, so I stopped at a different restaurant and got a cheesesteak, and my wife opted to go to Skillet2Plate Soul Bistro. After sampling her food, I finished it for her. She got the Turkey Leg with rice, gravy and greens, not my favorite meal but it was still delicious and I would order it again. They gave a nice portion of food, which is why I was able to get some after my wife ate. If they can make that taste good, I know they can cook some chicken, fish and shrimp and grits. My husband and I came here on our way back to Baltimore. We ordered the shrimp and grits w/ two sides. I had the mac n cheese and seafood salad, he had the Mac n cheese with the cornbread muffin. Over all great portion sizes for everything. FYI MUST SHAKE the sauce that comes with the shrimp/grits (it's not just oil) and request two sauces. The muffin was perfect( lightly sweetened with cookie crunch edges. Seafood salad was on point with real crab meat and a few big pieces of shrimp ( I believe we had five shrimp). We also had the peach tea (not really impressed, it wasn't bad, I was just expecting it to taste like peaches. I was disappointed to find one canned piece of peach in my tea. I think if you're going to add a garnish it should be fresh. Over all the food made up for my little disappointment. We would definitely return. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by on a whim today, 1st time customers. We were greeted by a very friendly young man who sat us right away. They clearly are practicing social distancing guidelines, as all the other customers were seated appropriately. My boyfriend and I were narrowing down our choices (we are mainly pescatarians , but will occasionally have meat) so I asked the host about the specials. He said they just put a salmon cheesesteak on the menu. Salmon cheesesteak? You mean like a Philly, but with salmon? He confirms, and says it comes with fries. He went on to say it's so good he's been eating it for the last three days. Hmmmm... I also ask for some coffee, to which he replied they don't have any, says that people like their coffee all sorts of different ways, so they stay away from that. I said well people like their food all sorts of different ways, but you don't stay away from that! He laughed a bit, knowing I was just messing with him. I am a big coffee lover but I can get over it not being offered. Especially since their food is... well... worth every calorie and red cent! I realized I had forgotten to take my insulin and I left it at home (something I NEVER do), so I knew I had to be careful with my choices. I asked our server if they can make the salmon Philly without the bread, he gave me a look but once I explained why, he understood. He asked the management, who was sympathetic to my forgetful mistake, and said they can do it without the bread. So I ordered that with a side of greens instead of fries, and my boyfriend ordered the fried whiting with cabbage and seafood salad. The food came out in a timely manner, and the server brought us all the necessary condiments and water refills. I had a HUGE helping of salmon, broccoli, peppers, onions, provolone, and their special sauce on my plate. The boyfriend had several pieces of whiting in front of him. He tried the seafood salad, which he said was good but a bit salty for him. But he then tried the cabbage and said it was delicious! I tried his cabbage and LOVED it! Perfectly peppered! He tried his fish and started nodding. He then sat back and said he may have to stop making his own fried whiting at home. Now if you only knew how frugal this man is... for him to say he might as well stop making something at home and just get it from a restaurant?!??? Stop. Call the press! Well anyway, once I started eating my salmon Philly without the bread, I could not stop! Those two young men really sold me on it, and they were not lying! The boyfriend tried it and he nearly lost his mind! He asked the server where we can find someone to smack, it was that good. Needless to say, there was none left to take home. And the greens? Perfectly seasoned! Got a lil Turkey in them, but I didn't mind! Delicious! We will definitely be returning, I've got my eye on some of their soups and he wants that Turkey wing. I have eaten here several times and recommend to all my friends. I think it is important to support new local, family owned businesses. Trust me, you will not meet a nicer family than this one. I have tried most items on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Some times the wait is a little longer but since the food is all prepared FRESH this should be expected.
