I like that Molly's always has some tasty filling in the core of the cupcake. It's their signature and it works really well. The cupcakes themselves are a good balance of fluffy and sweetness. I don't love their frosting though. I've had a number of flavors and the frostings are always way too sweet or way too buttery. Went in Saturday Afternoon and I was surprised to see this place empty. Service was quick and friendly and we were back out and walking around in a matter of minutes with our cupcakes. I ordered the S'mores (taste was pretty good but the toasted marshmallow did not survive the walk home) and the Ron Bennington (which was so soft it completely fell apart but the taste was good). My sister ordered the Blueberry Cheesecake and Red Velvet and she really enjoyed hers. I would love to try a couple more flavors so I will be back. The vibes here are very cool and the swings at the bar are very fun. Unfortunately the Flourless Gluten Free Cupcake while available, had signs saying that there was definitely cross contamination - I appreciated the transparent note! I've been going to Molly's in Lincoln Park for over a year. The cupcakes are always very fresh and there are lots of great flavors to pick from. The Samoa is my fav. It's a very cute shop decorated with inspiration from an elementary school. The staff is also always great. They are super attentive as soon as I walk in and quickly take orders. The OG Molly's location is always the best! Since they've expanded, most of the cupcakes are usually made out of the Clark Steet location. The service is amazing at this location and has always been since it's opening. The atmosphere inside is always inviting and people always dining in and hanging out. They still have the board games to play if you want to just chill. They always have the water station and the plate bins to return your plates and utensils once you've finished using them. read more

I called to discuss what I wanted and they directed me to email my request to the manager, well I got no no response so I proceeded to reach out 5 times by calling and each time someone on the phone said that they could do what I wanted but needed the manager to reply for a quote, and said they would text them. I never heard back. So I proceeded to get plain vanilla cupcakes and decorate them myself and my ONLY request was for half to have silver wrapping and half to have gold -- no one reached out to let me know they couldn't do this and today they arrived without them. As a fairly avid fan of cupcake wars, I was really excited to see a Molly's Cupcakes storefront while taking a stroll down Clark St. After looking at the wide variety of flavors, my friend and I ordered the passionfruit and salted caramel butterscotch to go. Both cupcakes were not overly sweet or decadent, which I appreciated. The cake itself definitely tasted fresh and the frosting texture was quite whipped and light. The part I was a bit disappointed by were the flavors themselves. I had hoped that the flavor might be infused in the actual cake batter to help distinguish, but it seems like it was mainly found in the filling and/or frosting. The salted caramel butterscotch cupcake had a creamy butterscotch filling, but I think I would have liked a stronger flavor for both the frosting and filling. The passionfruit cupcake confused me a bit as it was topped with a blackberry and had a blackberry filling. Because the passionfruit flavor was rather light for the frosting, I found the blackberry jelly inside to be a bit overpowering. Perhaps that's in part because cupcakes aren't really my thing (other these homemade ones I make that are amazing).
