I went to Skin Spirit with a friend and we discovered that Skin Spirit delegates the practice of medicine to unlicensed individuals, there is no doctor on site while important cosmetic procedures are performed by nurses who are not educated or qualified to take over a medical "spa" and work on patience. After a consultation by the nurses and feeling pressured to let them perform procedures we did not need we found a highly respected plastic surgeon who warned us about the dangers of "medi-spas" where there is no doctor supervision on site. You are taking a chance by going there, find a board certified doctor who cares enough to show up and perform his own work. The absence and delegation of duties by Dr. Michael Vistnes (who owns a chain of Skin Spirits) shows a poor code of ethics. read more

Andrea got me on an awesome regimen (sunscreen, triple lipid moisturizer, retinol, and TNS) and did an amazing job with my Voluma filler. This review is for the amazing customer service SkinSpirit and their manager/owner (I'm sorry I can't recall her name). I made a facial appt for a Sunday - I picked SkinSpirit because I've been to the SF location and liked it and it was one of the few places that accommodated a last minute booking. Morning of my appointment I got a message saying the practitioner was sick and couldn't make my appt and they didn't have anyone else to cover for her. I voiced my frustrations - not because the person was sick but because if I had cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment I would have been penalized and it felt unequal if they could cancel the appointment without any compensation or ability to have someone else do the service. Anyway, after hearing my complaints the manager called me back and said she would be happy to comp my next facial with them (I think a $200 value). That was much more generous than I would have expected and they even allowed me to get the service in their SF office (more convenient for me than Mill Valley). Thank you so much turning around a poor experience! SkinSpirit is now my goto for both Botox and high grade facials. read more

Skin Spirit has been open about a year and a half, I think. To me, it's the best new business in Marin in the past couple years. And the best business of its kind in Marin, ever. And I say that having patronized almost all of them. (blush) That's probably all I need to say, but I'll add that I've seen Kate Ratto for a treatment and follow ups and Tierney for a peel/facial type things. I am always more than pleased with my results. Thrilled, actually. I don't know who does the hiring at Skin Spirit, but that person should be congratulated for finding such intelligent, professional, talented and gracious people. Skin Spirit's services are reasonably priced, if you compare them to other clinics in the Bay Area. But I assure you that you get more quality for the same dollar spent at Skin Spirit. EDITED TO ADD 12/21/12: You know, yesterday I looked in the mirror and realized that I really owe it to Kate and to Skin Spirit to update this review. In the review above, I was a little shy to say specifically what procedure I had - mostly because people who *really* know me might find the review. But you know, I'd probably tell anyone who asked anyway. I did the Ulthera. Before doing Ulthera, I was getting "jowly" around the jawline and my nasal-labial folds were becoming nasal-chin folds as the smile lines began to extend down past my lips. In short, I was starting to experience serious sagging. I don't think even a filler would have helped. Over a year after the Ulthera, the results are still making me very, very happy. I could probably benefit from some filler, but do I *need* it? No. Not only is the extended fold gone, my normal nasal-labial folds are firmer. The jowliness is non-existent. The skin is firmed up from my neck to my hairline. Do I look 20 years younger? No. Do people seem slightly surprised to hear my age? Yes. But best of all, do I still look in the mirror and feel totally depressed that I can't afford a full face and neck lift? No, never. The procedure is not comfortable, but Kate is so soothing and professional, it still feels like a spa experience. The recovery is a breeze - just some very, very, very slight bruising/swelling. I'm so grateful for my results. I never take it for granted, privately. When I realized yesterday that it had been over a year and again felt that gratitude, I that it was time to publicly thank Kate and Skin Spirit. EDITED TO ADD 11/1/13 Once again, this 56 year old has to thank Skin Spirit for the fact that people are a little surprised to hear my age. It's been a week since my visit to SkinSpirit for fillers and Dysport. There are funny ways we women gauge our results. In the past, I've always joked that my face woke up two hours after the rest of my body. I laughed, but it was true. You become a certain age, and you don't wake up looking "refreshed", you wake up looking your most haggard. This morning when I woke up, I looked in the mirror and to my surprise I thought to myself that I could leave the house without even putting on makeup and not be self-conscious. It's not that the changes aren't subtle - but it's excellent subtlety. I have to add that the biggest surprise to me was the change that some filler around my nose made. Wow. I was starting to get "crone nose". A little bit of filler, and my nose has about the same shape it did 20 years ago. I didn't know that was possible and I don't know if it would work for everyone, but it's my favorite effect from this visit to SkinSpirit. Kate has a big fan club and it's clear that the esteem and fondness we all have for her is well-deserved. She's a medical professional first, but with an artist's touch. Seriously. I also got to meet the rep for Dysport and the fillers, Deb. She's wonderful, too, and it was fascinating to her her talk about all the different products. She's very knowledgeable and so generous with that knowledge. Based on the information she gave, there's definitely some Sculptra in my future. Morgan is my girl! I've been coming to SkinSpirit for the last six months now for regular facials and microdermabrasion and my skin has never looked better. What I love about this spa is that it's a med spa, backed by a board-certified and well recognized plastic surgeon. I feel confident in all the staff and am impressed by their vast menu of services, for all age ranges and skin concerns. I feel like I get actual advice from my esthetician and a game plan for my next series of visits targeted for my specific skin goals. Let me just begin by saying that Skin Spirit is the BEST medical skin spa you can ever go it. It seriously takes the spa experience to a whole new level. I am a confessed beauty junkie and I am not easily satisfied ever since the first time I steeped into the Mill Valley office, conveniently located in the Strawberry mall (tons of boutiques and right next to La Boulange - easy parking too) I was hooked. The facility itself is beautiful and the stuff is extremely knowledgeable about the latest medical skin procedures and treatments. Sheila Miller, the manager at the Mill Valley office is simply amazing. She is beyond helpful and did go out of her way to accommodate my requests and answer all the questions I had regarding different processes. Sheila is truly the best spa manager I have ever dealt with. She sat down with me and even offered to give me gift certificates for my clients moving to Marin and the Peninsula (I own a relocation company) Besides being talented, intelligent and extremely kind, Sheila has a great sense of business and I would not hesitate to recommend Skin Spirit to anyone. I am not easy to please since I can get really picky but the staff at Skin Spirit never fails to exceed my expectations. Thina Holman is also amazing. He did Ulthera on my last september and I can't be happier with the results. She is very knowledgeable about the procedure and makes you feel like you are in the best possible hands. I have really bad skin with acne, scars, redness and large pores. I had been getting monthly facial from a spa for years but it was not very helpful. I did not see significant improvement with my skin. I did some search online and I came across this place. I had read all the reviews here and decided to give it a try. I booked an appointment today. Even though the price is very expensive comparing to other regular facials, I like the result. I got the upgraded facial with microdermabrasion and light peel. The service was great. I also got 15% discount as a new customer. After the appointment, I got myself a package for 6 facial sessions at a discount price. They also offer many types of skin treatments at the clinic. My new facial go-to spot! I've gotten two facials from Morgan and Heidi- both were so amazing! I tried derma-planing, which is when they use a blade to go over your skins surface and exfoliate the top layer of the skin, all the way removing any sort of facial hair/fuzz you have! It makes your skin feel SO SMOOTH. I traveled to Los Angeles the next day and my skin was the glowing the entire weekend. Makeup was more fun to put on too ;p The entire process was really peaceful and just the way a facial appointment should go both times. I just finished a series of laser hair removal in Mill Valley with Kate. The results are beyond my wildest expectations. For the amount of time and money you spend on shaving or waving - laser hair removal is a bargain! For someone with course dark hair like me this has been a major life improvement. I live and work in San Francisco and getting to the Mill Valley location took me on average 20 minutes- even during commute hours. Happy with my experience here when it comes to organization, presentation and reception. They are very organized, beautiful environment and friendly staff. Receptionists are on it & Sheila (a manager I think) is simply amazing. Although, I won't get into specifics on what I had "done" wink wink. I am a little bummed about having to go back for a touch up and pay again to have it done right, and it still isn't right. I've had this service done elsewhere and had a much better result with lower cost touch ups. Maybe I will try a different practitioner next time because I really like the space.
