Great little hidden gem in Deale. Narrow road to get to it and parking is limited but there is an extra lot at the marina a block away. Great indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar with seating and full menu at the end of the pier. The oysters were amazing. Definitely a local hot spot but people and servers were all very nice. I wish there were a few fresher options on the appetizer menu but all in all great place with a great view. Love the vibe. A friend's co-workers suggested trying this location. Since I had to do some things in Bowie, MD that morning I figured why not try out this place. It was a hike to get there. I had never even heard of Deale, MD. This place was pretty good. We ordered Chesapeake crab dip and Honey Chesapeake wings for the appetizer. 2 - Taste of the Bay Trios, and fried chicken with gravy and for dessert - wild beignets. The rockfish and all the chicken definitely needed more seasoning. The crabcake with dipping sauce, and the corn salsa was great! Good staff. Living in DC, it's sometimes fun to take an adventure out to the bay to see the sights and get some really good seafood. One Saturday afternoon, we had an idea in our minds of taking a road trip like that and found our way to skippers pier. It's in the small town is Deale and is right on the water. There are lots of boats around in the harbor and if you sit by the windows you will get a great view of it all. And best of all, they serve their full menu all day. We stopped at a place before specially for seafood but they were only serving their brunch menu with no seafood (even though the website didn't mention that). We ordered the roasted oysters as a starter. I can't remember their name but it was their award winning ones. They were certainly worth the award. They were salty, briney, cheesy, and bacony. Everything you want in an oyster. I would highly recommend ordering them. My husband and I don't love oysters so we were a little leery. But loved them. I ordered the scallops with farro and my husband ordered the crab cake. Both were really good, although I thought mine was better! The scallops were big and the bed of farro had a delicious sauce and was super filling. Sometimes I don't order scallops because I think it won't be enough food, but this dish was very filling (and I was hungry!). We didn't ordered desserts but they had a really tantalizing selection. There is also a fun bar on the dock. It has a rooftop area that would be amazing in the summer. The atmosphere was really nice too. It's decorated pretty trendy and is really clean. Service was pretty good. All in all, this is a great place to go to, especially if you want to get out of the city or have some amazing seafood. Called for takeout and was told to order online. The online menu is missing several items that are on the regular menu. We wanted the scallop ramen but were not able to order it. Upon arrival for pickup the hostess was too preoccupied talking to her colleagues to offer a polite greeting. We got a cod bahn mi and a shrimp po boy. The bahn mi was lacking in flavor. The shrimp in the po boy smelled off and did not have any remoulade or pickles. Sadly the cucumber salad was the highlight of the meal. The prices are criminal for such poor quality. read more

I first tried Skippers Pier on Mother's day this year for brunch. We had finally gotten one sunny day after many many rainy days so my family and I sat on the patio. The brunch was pretty good with plenty of options and very reasonably priced, but I was itchin' to get back to try the regular menu. Well my guy has been wanting to try Skippers Pier too and after one failed attempt to get here we finally made it last Sunday for lunch. Thankful that we beat the crowd we chose an outside table mostly in the shade to enjoy the serene waterway and watch the boats go by. We started with a couple of cocktails and I really enjoyed the mimosa with oj so fresh I swear they must've picked the orange that morning! When we asked our wonderful server Alex for her opinion crab dip vs crab bruschetta...hands down she said go with the bruschetta. Perfect! Baguette bread with lump crab, cheese, balsamic drizzle and tomatoes. It didn't take long for us to clean that plate. Next were our entrees - I chose a blackened crab cake w/ slow cooked collard greens and chesapeake fries (Marylanders know that means Old Bay seasoning). The crab cake was very good - a nice sized lump and backfin mix, no filler, and blackened nicely with just the right amount of seasoning. The greens were close in taste to my grandma's - that good ol' southern cooking :) My only complaint is that they were a little cold. And as a carboholic the fries hit the spot too. We didn't indulge on the dessert menu this time as we were good and stuffed. Overall recommend but definitely not low budget. Got lump crab/cheese broiled oysters appetizer for $16. Lots of crab but the oyster itself was very small which didn't help to make the oyster stand out. The crab and cheese overwhelmed any taste of oyster of course. I wouldn't get again because I would like the focus to be more on the oyster. The rockfish with corn salsa and fried green tomatoes was good at $26. The rockfish tacos were also good with a variety of coleslaw and salsa flavors going on. The food was good for a 1st try but not so good where I would go back and only eat those dishes. I'll see what else they have on the menu, next time I go. So for the price point I would see if I could find something just as good but at a lower price. read more

This restaurant is an absolute gem in the quaint town of Deale, MD. The restaurant is at the end of a street in a very quiet and lovely beach community where folks in their yards wave to you as you pass them by. The restaurant...it's very casual and the staff are friendly and accommodating. There is outdoor seating (picnic tables) with umbrellas. It's a perfect location for enjoying good seafood on a nice, sunny day, afternoon or evening. The drinks....on point. I ordered a dirty banana and my beaufriend ordered a piña colada. They were perfectly blended with just the right amount of alcohol. The food....absolutely fabulous! We ordered two appetizers 1) the pups and biscuits that were too yummy for words and 2) the crab balls that were amazing (and fried) with no filler. YUMMY!! I ordered the Alaskan King Crab steamer that includes red potatoes and white corn soaking in a scrumptious garlicky butter concoction (melted in my mouth!!) The King Crabs were amazing! Very sweet and fresh! The corn and potatoes were fresh and delicious too! The meal also came with tasty garlic bread. There was NO way I could finish all of that food, so I took what WE couldn't eat, home. My beaufriend ordered the blackened crabcake sandwich that was seasoned to perfection! The sandwich was accompanied by perfectly seasoned fries! Delicious! We will DEFINITIVELY return to order more off of the extensive menu to include crabs. Statting with the positives.The location was nice and secluded on the water. Beautiful view and lots of spots to dock If you want to bring you're boat. It wasn't crowded at all and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. As for the service and food. Even with little to no guest in or outside it took forever to get served. The menu was in the smallest font. So we had to pull them up on our phone to read. We Started with the crab dip. Very small portion but was decent if you eat without the burnt baguette. If you have more than 2 people definitely get more than one. For the entrees we had salmon and shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos also were okay. But the salmon was very small, cold and very dry. This place is ducked off in the woods of a mini neighborhood. The parking was limited I observed people walking down the street to park in another lot. Once I got inside the ambiance was family style. I was a little annoyed at first due to the lack of communication when you call versus coming in person. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated, I was finally seated outside. The service was slow due to it being a holiday but the food was amazing all of it. The appetizer oysters were so good. Let's just say I will be coming back for the food it was tasty despite the negative reviews. I'm only giving his place 4 stars because of the wait and slow service. Came back on 7/7/2018 to bring a friend and we sat outside only to get our table skipped. I'm not saying race was the issue but clearly something was up. The waitress acknowledged every group before and after us and never came to our table. When we went back inside to inquire about a table inside, we were told to wait additional 30 mins. Now this is where it gets tricky a couple of 2 came in and were immediately seated and again we were told 30 minus and that we have to go on a list. This is terrible service no one deserves poor service. Busy or not management should be mindful of hiring incompetent and unprofessional people that can't give basic answers and simple service. My wife and I came here with some friends September 2nd 2020. It was a hot and very humid day by the water so we opted to eat inside. We were immediately seated Social distancing was definitely implemented and followed by staff and customers. The facility was clean. Service: Our server was very attentive and friendly. Our drinks came out promptly and we never had to ask for anything. The staff all worked well together as a team. Food: The food is AMAZING! Everyone ordered something different and so we shared plates so that everyone could get to try multiple meals. We had the Crab Nachos, Shrimp and Grits, the Ramen noodles, wings, fried shrimp basket and a few other things that I can't remember. EVERYTHING was a hit. NO complaints whatsoever. We just had dinner at Skippers Pier and while some of us loved our food, some weren't that impressed. The rockfish with a fried green tomato under it was the absolute star for sure. It was wonderfully seasoned and it was a perfect balance of all the elements to make a really delicious dish. The Sea Salted Salmon was a beautiful dish and my nephews girlfriend said it was great. I got a 1/2 pound of steam spiced shrimp that unfortunately were pitifully spiced and about 6 of the shrimp were ridiculously hard to get out of the shell and then they tasted funny. Like a really nasty iodine/fishy flavor, so that was disappointing. My daughter got the Snow crab steam pot and I've never seen her completely finish her entire meal and she did this time!! 3 of my family members got the Bayside Scampi and they said it was okay but nothing special.. The strawberry benigets were delicious and perfectly cooked. So why the lower rating? Our server really dropped the ball on the experience. She started out just fine, but as our meal went on and on her visits to our table became less frequent to pretty much non existent by the end of our meal. She didn't bring any napkins to the table until we had to ask halfway through dinner, for people eating crab legs and peel and eat shrimp. No refills on any drinks. She never once removed a single dirty plate from our table. We still had appetizer dishes on the table when we were done with dessert. The dining room we were in, we were her only table. There was no one outside because it was raining, and she may have had tables in the bar, I'm not sure. But to pretty much ignore us because she was already getting a $72 tip from our table (because they add a 20% gratuity to larger parties) isn't cool. I am a server, so I appreciate servers to the max!! I even stacked up all the dishes so they were easy to remove and no one still grabbed them. One of my family members spilled a glass of water while we were waiting for the check and a sweet little girl from another table had to bring us napkins! I mean come on, no teamwork with the staff? Plenty of people that weren't our server walked by our table and none of them offered any help either. I don't understand that. I definitely would've given extra gratuity for our server if the service hadn't sucked so bad...hopefully she will read this and do better next time. Haven't been here in many years, but not have any success with any of the restaurants in north beach or chesapeake beach thought we would try this place and wow what a shock, all the food we had was amazing! The drinks (orange crush) needs improvement, I had to order an extra shot of orange vodka and a small glass of orange juice to mix in and make a better drink as theirs was all sprite or club soda. My daughter got the steam shrimp with hush puppies, she said very good, my son in law got the chicken and gravy also said he liked very much, I got the rock hold rockfish, with crab and it was amazing, very good and would recommend. Visited here tonight. The doors to the back bar kept blowing open and our table was being blasted with freezing cold strong breeze. After asking many time was there anything that could be done, the just simply said no they can't do anything the doors would remain open from the wind and when staff and patrons went through the door. My dad go so upset he demanded to be seated away from the door, at which time the waiter was heard complaining steps away. They agreed to move us. Next we get our meals. I've been here 3 times before so I was used to quality. But this meal. And out sloppy looking. Like it was thrown on the plate. I got the rockfish meal. And usually it's stacked nice, and drizzled with sauce. It was thrown all about the plate. All the flavors were off, something wasn't right. As I ate the meal the crab pieces were ice cold, the rockfish was super fishy tasting, very off, it's usually really fresh. I kept taking bites thinking this is not good. I tore off the breading to the fried green tomatoes and they were bruised and old. They were not tart and sour with flavor. I smelled them and they smelt like rotting trash. I told the waiter, nothing happened, comps were made. My mom got the same meal and was just as sloppy. I'm so upset I talked this place up to be a good place to eat, it was really bad. So disappointed. And on top of it, my stomach began immediately hurting, and I continue to feel uneasy. Not quality food like I've had in the past. We left as soon as we could. And because I was with guests and family I held back my speech. I plan to call tomorrow. But this was terrible. read more

My husband and I had a poor experience last night, although we have been to Skipper's multiple times previously and had good food and decent service those times. I'll chalk it up to the restaurant being very busy yesterday. My husband ordered the Mrs. Maryland Club and the crab cake portion of the sandwich was cold and very tiny. There were barely any shrimp on it either. His fries were also cold. He's ordered it before and it was much better. I ordered the Candy Cane Beet and Tuna Salad. I specified rare seared ahi tuna for my salad but was given a hunk of medium well cooked tuna steak. The pieces of beet in my salad were so tiny that I got no beet flavor from the salad. The highlights of the meal were the hush puppies w honey sauce (delicious) and the crab dip. Crab dip didn't have any jumbo lump and it was mostly cream cheese, but had good flavor. Showed the server my overcooked tuna, which I didn't eat, and she took $2 off the $19 salad when the bill came. When I reiterated that the tuna was inedible to me and that I had only eaten a few bites of the salad, she took it off the bill entirely. We dined outside today (4/7) and the view was spectacular just like the weather and the food was great! Our server, Jimmy, and his assistant, Lexie, were two of the nicest people one could ever meet. Jimmy is a natural for serving and Lexie is a natural for greeting and seating and assisting Jimmy. Everyone there is exceptional, but since we had Jimmy and Lexie serving us, I wanted to Really say how great they are! Super pricey but amazingly yummy! If you're looking for an awesome outdoorsy seafood place with a great view and entertainment then this is the place. We've been craving seafood and hey what do you know after a day at the the beach this was a perfect place! I recommend this place to whoever is in the area.
