Solid sushi. I order from here with doordash and the food here is always fresh. I ordered the poke roll and pork baos. The pork buns were flavorful and buns were pillowy soft. We have been here a few times since the original review. The food has been consistently very good, we have enjoyed everything we have tried here. The new thing we tried most recently (last night) was the "Lovely roll" - another winner. Unfortunately last night there was a pretty bad service failure. When we came in around 7 it was still pretty busy but there was a couple of open tables and we sat down right away. We got drinks pretty quickly (they serve wine and beer now) and then it was about 10 minutes before our server came by again to take our order. We ordered seaweed salad, fried calamari, and the Lovely roll - and we mentioned we might want to order more and asked the server to leave a menu. The salad and the roll came out pretty quickly and the calamari took some time - when it came out we had just about finished the roll. No biggie, we just pretended it was another main instead of an appetizer, that was fine. As we were finishing the calamari, we thought about ordering a bit more food. But our server seemed to have vanished and the one other person working in the dining room had zero interest in our table, even when we started looking around trying to make eye contact. And by now most of the tables were empty. This went on for 20-30 minutes during which time we lost interest in more food. Finally I called out to her "can we have our check please" and we paid and left. Maybe it was a mistake or miscommunication but in a quiet dining room, a table should NOT be ignored for 30 minutes. We had the opportunity to have dinner in the Carlsbad area tonight and must say that this sushi spot is amazing quality, great service, and the fresh wasabi we ordered with our nigiri was the best we've ever had. So much so the horseradish-ness of it, being strong, still made me want to finish every little bit even when my sushi was all gone. The ambiance was appropriately decorated and the food came out quickly, piping hot, and great portioned. We will be back! Saw signs up recently for Sky Sushi and thought it was new to the area. Upon arriving it looks like the signs were for their 1 year anniversary! Oops. Anyhow, this place is in the strip mall at the Southwest corner of the 78 and Melrose, just north of the Courthouse. Good option if you're called for jury duty and get a long enough break to go enjoy some sushi. Good parking options right out front. The inside is clean and nice but a little cold (lots of tile). They do have a lot of plants to soften it up which is appreciated. Cute little flower arrangements on each table too. Prices were pretty fair, we just weren't wowed by the food. Nothing was terrible, but nothing really knocked it out of the park either. Everything was cut just a little too big for me - lemons on the lemon roll were a little thick. I also didn't care for the spicy mayo on the spicy lemon roll (that's on me, I chose that roll). We always get a protein style roll and the cucumber wrapper was kind of a disaster (RIP Sushi Station, you had the BEST chefs for cucumber wrappers). I think the standout item I'd definitely get again if I happen to go back was the little bao-style taco, I think we got pork belly. Those were great, better than the sushi for me. read more

The Tarzan roll had a rotten taste. Both my boyfriend and I had to embarrassingly spit out the roll into our napkin. It was inedible. The shrimp tempura inside the roll was undercooked, it was translucent still. The thick piece of eel on top looked appealing but it was rotten. We eat sushi all the time and something was severely off. The waitress took the roll to the chef, came back with the roll all picked apart and told us it was cooked and next time to ask for the shrimp to be "well done"... ummmmm sorry that is not how it works. The rainbow roll was put together sloppily with more rice than anything. The color of the albacore looked old as if it was pre-sliced? You are better off getting grocery store sushi. I honestly do not understand all of the great reviews. Maybe it was a bad slice of eel, but I 100% will not be back. BTW dinnerware is all mix-matched with cheap tacky designs. Age dashi tofu was ok. Called in order for take-out; spicy scallop HR, spicy tuna HR, twinkle roll, spam musubi, pork bao. The dish I liked most was the spicy tuna HR. The tuna was spicy and flavorful. They balanced the tuna-rice ratio well. Not too much of either ingredient and nothing overpowering. I'd keep ordering this. Everything else was OK. The spam in the musubi could have been seared longer in a pan. The scallops had a texture that was not the most pleasant. It chewed like it had been boiled. The twinkle roll was supposed to have salmon and tuna on the inside, but it only had tuna. The pork bao was heavy on the sauce and the pork was a sliver of a piece (it was nicely cooked, just wish there was more of it). I'm happy there's a sushi joint nearby, but I hope things get better. I know they're new to the block so there's a learning curve. I'll give them some time and try again another day. read more

This has become a neighborhood favorite for our family. The menu has a nice variety of Japanese and Korean dishes, so there's always something to satisfy our cravings. It's so cute inside too, and we noticed the owner regularly change their floral arrangements because there are different fresh flowers every time we go. The family who own this spot are just the nicest people, and are always quick to take care of us. This is one of the only places we can take our young son, since their udon is one of the few food items he'll eat. He loves their ice cream too! To celebrate a good week at school, we shared 3 different ice creams- matcha tempura, strawberry macaron, and mango mochi. So far we've tried different varieties of sushi, sashimi, ramen, udon, appetizers and bento and we've loved them all. The food here was good and the service was great. They were very friendly and attentive. Quality of the fish was excellent and it tasted wonderful. We tried several rolls as well as the kid's teriyaki, which was phenomenal. My *only* complaint is that the rolls are rather small compared to a lot of other places in north county, but cost about the same. Normally I can only eat 1 roll but I was easily able to eat 2 premium rolls and was still hungry. Sushi here is fresh and tasty! I was fortunate enough to grow up with an uncle who is a sushi chef, but the unfortunate thing is that I cannot eat low quality sushi - if it is old, I can taste it. I got this sushi to go so I don't have much to say about the ambiance but it seems to be geared towards to go food vs dine in. We were quoted 25 minutes after placing our order online and I showed up about three minutes early and the food was ready. The mixed tempura was still hot and crispy when I got home. So often it gets a little soggy when I get it to go, so it was really good. We ordered the dynamite roll, not the best I've had but good. The Spanish roll was great as was the seaweed salad.
