One of my friends asked me tonight which moving company I used last summer which reminded me that I never wrote a review. I used Skybox Movers on August 1, 2013 to move from Center City to the Plymouth Meeting area. My appointment was for 1:00 p.m. They called me and said they would be 20 minutes late. Then they called again and said they would be another 30 minutes late. After several more phone calls, they showed up at 4:40 p.m......over 3.5 hours late. They gave two reasons for being late.....first they said that they were moving someone's belongings into a storage unit and there was a mix up with the storage unit number when they got there. They they said there were having truck problems and had to get a new truck before coming to my place. I was on the verge of tears as my new apartment building requires all move-ins to occur by 5:00 p.m. so obviously there was no way I was going to make it. I had to get special permission to move in later that night which the property manager was not happy about. She wanted to reschedule the move-in for the next day, which would have required me paying Skybox extra money to store my belongings in their truck overnight. Luckily I was able to move in that night and avoid an extra charge from the property manager as she felt sorry for me and understood it was the moving company's lateness. I will say that the two moving guys were extremely nice and polite and worked very hard. I had a lot of boxes and Rubbermaid containers and they were able to pack the truck very efficiently. When we finally left Center City, I was feeling better and less stressed, excited about moving into my new place. We left Center City at the exact same time, however, when I got to the new apartment building, the movers were nowhere to be found. When I called their cell phone, it went right to voicemail. They showed up 45 minutes after me, again further delaying the move in. The property manager was furious. When they finally showed up, they told me that their cell phone had died and they had to stop to buy a phone charger. They assured me that I wouldn't have to pay for the 45 minutes of extra time. Despite the stress of the situation, they continued to be pleasant and friendly. I could tell they were exhausted and it was taking them longer to load the stuff into my apartment as they were slowing down physically. They said they had been working from 5:30 a.m. that day and they finished my move-in at 11:30 p.m. I had pizza delivered at my new place as we were all hungry. I paid for the pizza and I also tipped them $100 as I thought they deserved it. I was still disappointed about the 4:40 p.m. arrival and the extra 45 minutes it took them to get to my new place, but they did work hard and never once complained about the long day. Due to the lack of natural light at 11:30 p.m. and no overhead lighting in my new bedroom when I moved in, it was several days before I realized there were several scratches on my bedroom furniture. The main reason I hired a moving company was to protect my $3,000 bedroom set, which was in perfect condition. I don't know if they either didn't wrap the furniture on the truck or if the damage happened while they were carrying the pieces. My nightstand in particular has four L-shaped scratches on the top which I cannot fix. There are also minor scratches on my bed frame, bureau and armoire. I'm giving two stars because I felt the movers were nice, pleasant and hard working. I also felt the price was fair compared to other moving companies I researched. However, I'm taking off three stars due to the lateness and damage to my furniture. read more

Moving is the worst! Ive moved my wife and children 3 times in the last 4 years, for business reasons. Our most recent move involved moving from a three bedroom home in Maple Shade, New Jersey to a four bedroom home in Far Northeast Philadelphia. After a few emails back and forth with the owner Matt, we settled on our date, time, truck size, fees and number of movers. Many of the other moving companies i chose to look into did not own their own trucks, which i found ammusing. We agreed that 4 movers were to arrive at my home in Maple Shade at 8:00 AM on January 16th. The vibe I picked up from Matt was very satisfying. Any question me or my wife had it was answered quick and straight to the point. On moving day, I received a call at 7:30AM from one of the movers, Scott, letting me know that they were on their way. They pulled up in a 24 foot truck, were parked up and ready to work by 7:55AM (5 minutes early). Àll 4 gentlemen respectfully introduced themselves to my wife, myself, and my 2 children. They did not waste time at all. They dove right into the work. I had a few heavy dressers located on the third floor, the moving company (who shall remain nameless), that moved me into my Maple Shade home, had many problems getting these dressers up to this floor. Joe, Scott, John, and Derek made the previous movers look like rookies. I was extremely impressed. My 6 year old son even complimented the guys efficient work. Ontop of the heavy dressers, I also have a deep freezer that was located in the basement. My basement steps are very narrow, these guys once again could not have done better. I had a hardwood kitchen table,a king size bed, two twin beds, a 3 piece entertainment center, a dresser that needed a mirror detached, and my office desk all needed to come apart. The truck was packed tight and neatly. The whole load up took a little under 3 and a half hours, and was estimated at 4. The ride to our new residence took roughly a half hour. And the unload which was done quickly and efficiently, took about 2 hours give or take. Everything from the boxes/bags to every piece of furniture (big and small) was put in place exactly where and how we wanted it. Derek and Joe even set up my daughters whole room from the play area to the bedroom set. This is a room that is limited on space. They did a wonderful job. Every piece that was taken apart was put back together in a careful manner and was again placed where need be. I did not see these guys take one break the whole 6 and a half hours this job took. This job could have easily went 8 hours, which is the estimate that I received from Matt. For this reason alone I tipped all 4 guys generously. All four guys were extremely professional. After the job, I got to share a quick conversation with them. Two of them were family men, with one of them expecting. All stand up guys in my book. I recently just referred them to my sister in law. Who has just booked her move from Philadelphia to Virginia in March. I highly recommend Skybox Movers to anyone moving. They are very easy to do business with and the worker are phenominal. 5 stars to Matt and his team. I am not planning on moving anytime soon, but if I do, I know who I'm calling! read more

So when me and my wife were moving from Philly to Jenkintown we were debating between renting a truck and having a couple of buddies helping us move. The move was on a weekday so asking for help was out. Using a rental truck before, we realized the hassle of reserving a truck, picking the truck up, parallel parking on the street, returning it with enough fuel, etc... so we decided on using a mover, the options out there are endless. Although we could have found a fly-by-night mover on craigslist for less, we wanted someone who was upfront with the estimate (ours came out to less then expected after all was said and done), we especially wanted someone insured and professional. Most people don't think about strangers hurting themselves on your property. So after deciding on Skybox really by chance, I called Matt to schedule our move, he sent over the estimate via email with the details in plain black and white. Move day comes, the crew (Derrick and Mike) show up 5 minutes early ready to go I sign the estimate signed by email to confirm they showed up on time. I showed them what needed to go and they came up with a packing plan. I went back to doing my thing, after they were packed, they knocked and we confirmed the address and off we went to the new spot. When I pulled up they already talked with my wife and were unpacking the truck. After everything was moved and approved by us, Derrick pulled out the credit card machine and I paid with my credit card. The total was less than I expected, including the tip for the guys! Can't beat that. It's clear there are a lot of moving options out there, but we picked these guys and it definitely worked out for us, made our move so much easier. I would highly recommend them to friends and family. If you're looking for a no B.S. moving option that is upfront and gets the job done, call these guys (at least get an estimate). read more

These guys are a great moving company! Booking was very easy and they got back to me via email very punctually. Although they were about 30 minutes late due to a "truck mixup" they had 3 guys work on the move even though I only reserved and paid for a 2 man job. The guys were very efficient and professional but also friendly and put me at ease during the move, a time that can be very stressful. For the move-in portion they made sure all the boxes and furniture ended up in the room they were supposed to get to. I have a giant TV center that wouldn't fit through the front door and they moved it through a narrow alley, hoisted it over the 6 foot wall in the backyard, and brought it through the back door, all without a scratch! They also put up with me while I asked them to move it to a different spot in the living room (3 times). All in all these guys were really great, I would definitely hire them again. I had THE BEST experience with skybox movers. Derrick, Mike, Tony, and Nicholas were punctual, friendly, and professional. I will never move myself again! We moved out of a two bedroom, three and four floor walk-up apartment. The front entrance to our apartment is in a very narrow alley. They were pros at maneuvering the truck close to the door and quick at carrying all of our stuff downstairs and loading the truck. We had eleven friends help us move into this apartment and these four guys moved us out in half the time it took our friends. The total move took about three hours and cost us a little over $300. We had a big flat screen tv and no box for it, I made a make shift box and they moved really carefully. Nothing was damaged in our move. I would highly recommend them. All I have to say is that skybox movers are great. They are the least expensive and very professional. I had to move my two bedroom apartment and I had a ton of stuff but the crew that was sent didn't have a problem. They took care of all of my things like they were their own. It was a very solid move and they finished way before my estimatated time. The best part about it was the way everything was done last min. I had to reschedule last min but Matt called me back an took care of everything and said it was no problem. I'm so glad I hired Skybox movers! I arranged everything about 6 weeks over the phone with Matt. I was using ABF U-pack, and needed someone to load all of my boxes/furniture (3 bedroom apartment) into the trailer. Matt sent over 3 gentlemen (really...they were polite, friendly, and professional). They arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and clearly knew what they were doing. In 3 hours, everything was loaded in the trailer and packed tightly so that things wouldn't move around. Skybox was cheaper than other profesional moving companies, and did a spectacular job. If I every move again in the Philadelphia area, I am DEFINITELY using Skybox. read more

These guys were fantastic. Not a single scratch or dent on any furniture. Quick, efficient, professional. Gave us an third guy for no extra charge, 24' truck, two hour move, no fuel charge, and loads of blankets, for a large 1BR apt move, all for under $250. From the start this was a great experience. Matt, who I spoke to on the phone was professional and helpful. He added me in for a last minute move that I didn't think was going to happen. Derek and Rob showed up at my apartment and got the truck loaded quickly and we were on our way. They moved a loveseat and a king sized bed up to the third floor in some narrow hallways but were determined to make it work! I had to move my mother in law from Bucks County to Center City Philadelphia. I first thought of doing this job myself but my problem was that I worried a little bit how I would maneuver the narrow Philly streets. So I decided to hire movers. I found SkyBox movers on the Craiglist. I must say that it was good decision. They showed up on time, worked steadily and rightly priced. Overall very good experience. They gave us a good price and worked hard. My new building didn't have an elevator, so they carried everything up five flights of stairs, no damage, no complaints. They handled all the furniture respectfully, packed it well and didn't scratch or break anything, and they were done in under three hours, less time than they thought it would take.
