1949 and some Greek dude in Cincinnati starts Skyline Chili. I hadn't realized that the Greeks are chili makers, they like lemons too much and this stuff has spaghetti noodles inside. I heard about the noodles but I didn't see it working in the chili, so I scratched at my head and wondered a bit then I went to check it out. Then It Couldn't Happen Here (Sinclair Lewis) happened, it was in my clutches and I couldn't put it down so I sent a minion to pick it up and he's asking me "how many ways"? and I've no friggin clue what he's asking me about. It's akin to the Waffle House sounding options of One Way All the way up to Five Ways, it's about adding onions or beans and cheese and such. but more on that later. I lived just over the Ohio River in Kentucky (Covington), they had a weird smokey spaghetti chili, it was because "it's the South" but it's actually not, it's the Midwest, a Southern Living Classic they said, "scuttlebutt" I say. Mustard on watermelon, potato salad in gumbo, those cowpokes do some weird combinations I tell ya - but to each his own. For me, I didn't enjoy the concoction of textures, the chili gravy was very wet and had no foothold to hang on to the sauce/gravy of the chili. I'm not a huge traditionalist, but ground meat, beans, celery, garlic and spices are the basics and I'm not adversity slipping a wildcard or two into the mix but the spaghetti just doesn't fit for me. The shredded cheese was waxy to me and didn't (or couldn't) melt at all, but this was a takeout order so no penalty. Oyster crackers on the side didn't make sense because they're quite dry, sorta like the cheese, but once I to the sauce/gravy they become mush. read more

Came in on a Saturday afternoon I expected more of a fast casual experience, but got seated with a server, ok fine. Server was excellent, no complaints there The food is incredibly mediocre and extremely expensive for what you get. I took my wife and mother in-law to eat lunch. We got 6 hot dogs (had to order more because they are super small dogs, only a couple inches at most), a chili 4 ways, 3 sodas and a dessert and after tipping I paid like $62. I will not be back. The cheesy coney dogs are definitely the way to go. These are so delicious and very messy. I wish they gave them to me on a real plate not a cup saucer plate. Seems like most of the overflowing cheese fell around the plate as you bite into the dog. On this occasion, the chili, which is so good, was barely on our hot dogs. I mean that's why you drive extra to get the chili and then they are skimpy. We have been here many times and never had such a limited experience. The fries are good too with the chili. The service was good. Sweet high school girls working hard to keep the place clean, the drinks filled, the orders taken, the food delivered, all with a smile. There is table service, but you need to come patient for there is no bussing or clean up person, All is done by the 2 servers. There was an additional person handling drive-thru, which had quiet a line. I think this spot can use more help, but most places are struggling on that issue. The food is worth the wait. Home away from home! As an Ohioan skyline has a Home hearty feel to it. I took my date to have her try a cheese Coney for the first time last week. If you've never been to a skyline chili, be prepared! It's not the same chili you get from Wendy's. You will never have a bowl of just their chili, that is a Deathwish! You will have a sweet, saucy taste added to either a hotdog and or pasta, all of this is loaded with cheese, and it is quite the experience! This crew was amazing! 9.8! Food is always a 10! Prices are stupid high and essentially it tastes like Hormel canned chili. Food was bad and spent like $60.

Had Rylee as the server and she was outstanding. First time here so it was great to get someone knowledgable, friendly and helpful. The chili has a distinct taste from a secret recipe. Have a friend who is originally from Ohio and he suggested it to us and we went and tried it out and we have to say it was pretty good. We had a couple of hot dogs & spaghetti with the cheese and believe me the cheese is piled on just like the pictures you will see on yelp. Wait staff were very friendly and helpful. We've been wanting to try this place and had high hopes but were disappointed. We carried out and our order was correct. Major plus these days. We all had the Ways chilli. We enjoyed the spaghetti, onions and very generous portion of cheese. Unfortunately, from the moment I opened the lid to my dish, I didn't like the smell. As I began eating, there was a strong taste that I couldn't place and did not enjoy at all. My grown son and husband agreed. It was not a good taste. I think it was curry but not sure. Well I like this place. The Cokes are good. The hot dogs are good the chili is good. Prices are reasonable. I mean hey you can eat for seven or eight bucks and be full and be on your way. I like mine with extra onions by the way. ( the only small complaint is they didn't accept the coupon. Correct date but they were out of stock of a specialty jalapeno hot dog.. I have always wanted to try this regional delicacy. I was pleasantly surprised to know there was a location down South. The kitchen was wide open and the service was very appreciated. The staff member who appeared to be a manager offered free samples of the chili to try. I had a 3-way (Around $5). It was spaghetti with their chili and a load of shredded cheddar cheese. It was alright. The chili was too sweet for me. The sauce was too thin as well. I also tried a chilito which was chili and shredded cheddar cheese in tortilla. My husband and I were way beyond hungry, as we skipped lunch and so we settled for this chili spot. Chili is hard I feel like to mess up so I thought how bad could it be... The chili was not good. Im sorry I wanted to like it but it was so bad I even gagged. The people were so nice and accommodating but the food is really gross. The chili is runny, has no flavor and the proportions are tiny! Be forewarned- this restaurant's chili is not the typical kind of spicy chili that is thick and eaten on a cold day. It's a thinner version that isn't spicy and has ingredients in it that rounds out the taste. I was expecting a more typical chili. However, the staff was gracious enough to explain it to me prior to ordering and allowed us to try a sample of the chili with cheese. I didn't care for it but plenty of other people did. What we did like was the cheese fries. We would definitely order those again. Also the staff was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was clean and felt comfortable. We ordered to go and the food came out quickly. The staff was masked and social distanced. I give them a 4 star for all those reasons. Like I said - plenty of people seemed to enjoy the chili. Counter service seems suspended for Covid, but there are booths and tables, socially distanced, and with sanitary precautions taken. Bibs are available to protect, if needed, and there's a TV to catch the current sports event. Our family considers Skyline a weekly "necessary indulgence". We love the casual atmosphere while still offering table service. We appreciate the simple menu that makes possible getting our food quickly, especially when small children are along. (Great for after church!) There are many Greek chili parlors in the Greater Cincinnati area, but Skyline tops them all!! The basic coney dogs with cheese, chili and onions are inexpensive and delicious. Their signature chili has a unique flavor and is tastes great on hot dogs. I also opted for there habanero blend of cheese. It has a good flavor with notes of heat. The service was fast and friendly. The kitchen is open and you can watch them prepare everything. This is a long standing legend in the northern states of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, and it is delicious. It's sweeter chili and this location does it right! I had chili cheese coneys, a chili cheese fry, and it was to perfection. Don't go in and complain because that it's not like your momma's chili...it's not supposed to unless momma is making Cincinnati style chili. Excellent chili at an excellent price. It's very inviting. You're allowed to seat yourself and very quickly a server will come and take your order. There are three different sizes, that are all generous helpings of chili. I always get mine with spaghetti and beans because that's how it should be. They also offer coneys and other items, but I stick to the chili every time! Everyone is very nice and polite and they always deserve a small tip for their kindness and quick service! Unfortunately, this restaurant has earned the title of our least favorite place to eat in town. We heard rave reviews about this place from lots of people. We know it has a cult following... but based on our experience we can't understand why. The service was OK but the food was just plain awful. We didn't like the taste of the chilli at all and couldn't finish anything of it. The flavor was too sweet. And my kids weren't even a fan of the plain noodles with nothing on them. It got a 0/5 from everyone in our family. For the same price- I'd rather go to chipotle. I give it two stars star bc it does have a great location and a drive thru. read more

Their literal signature topping "freshly shredded cheese" was absent from our 4-Way with Beans and 5-way with beans and onions, which I guess they didn't want to give us onions either. The chili itself is entirely too sweet. The spaghetti noodles are flavorless and lacking. The only saving grace is their hot sauce which is repackaged Texas Pete, which we had to pour 4 packets each onto our bowls. The chili cheese fries were in a vat of separating oil and soggy fries, as if they were sitting and waiting to be be given to the next unfortunate soul to come to the window. I'm giving them 1 star because they gave us milk bones at the window for our small dog, otherwise this review would qualify as 0 stars if I could rate it that low. Super, SUPER disappointed in this experience despite reading and hearing rave reviews about this place. Will not return.
