I've never had Skyline Chili before and my friend and I were passing through Columbus on our way back to Michigan, so we decided to stop and try it out. Skyline Chili is originally from Cincinnati I believe, but they do have a few locations around the Columbus metro area, so it worked out perfectly for us. There is a drive through, but what's odd is that there is also a proper sit-down restaurant on the inside too. It's not even your normal fast food experience of ordering at the counter and then waiting for your food and sitting down to eat. No, it's actual waiters and a dining room where they seat you and come to you to take your order and bring your food. I've heard a ton about both the Skyline spaghetti and chili dog, so naturally I got both to try! The chili definitely tastes unlike any chili I've ever had. Very cinnamon-y, but pleasant! The hot dog was fine, the spaghetti was also fine. Nothing remarkable, but it was just something I had wanted to check off my list...and now I have! There are a ton of different sizing options for whatever you might want to get. If you like the acquired taste of this chili, then I'm sure you'd enjoy coming here frequently. Clean, convenient off the freeway, friendly service! Stopped in for my friend to try skyline chili for the first time! Had to go with the 4 way and a cheese coney. Classics, and looked good. Me, on the other hand, had a bit of a drive ahead and I recall skyline chili not always sitting well in my tummy, so I tried other menu options for the first time. I went with the classic chicken wrap (lettuce, tomato, cheese, chicken, ranch) and a side of fries. The wrap (cold) was a good size, and not bad, a bit basic. Did the job! I'm a big fan of Skyline Chili and this is my usual "go to" location. My previous rating was 4 stars but after tonight's visit, I'm downgrading them to 3-stars. Still good BUT: 1. the service was a little off tonight - our server (Curry) was good but I think the restaurant was understaffed this evening. 2. the restaurant was freezing. It was 77 degrees outside and was about 67 degrees inside. I was actually shivering while I ate. My wife was smart enough to have brought a sweater with her. 3. granted it was 7:30 (late dinner) but the restaurant really needed attention - tables needed to be bussed and wiped down. 4. the prices seem to have inched upward. First time here and Skyline Chili isn't just food--it's an experience. I went all in with a chili dog and the spaghetti, both absolutely loaded with shredded cheese. Never thought I'd eat chili with pasta but here I was, digging into a 4-way with onions. The chili was not bad but nothing I'd go out of my way for and I wished the cheese was melted but ultimately I can't complain because it was such an experience being served heaps of shredded cheese. I LOVE Skyline so I was really excited there was a location five minutes from our hotel. While the food is typical Skyline (I happen to think it's great but I know lots don't). So everything came out fresh and tasty. The issue was with service. Our server seemed bothered that we were here. When she returned with our ordered drinks she had forgotten one and instead of saying "sorry I'll grab that now" she rudely said "you must not have said it loud or clear enough" When I asked for a menu (we only eat at a location like once a year) she said "it's just skyline, there's not much to it" The restaurant itself is also kind of a hot mess. Dirty, unbiased tables and the carpet definitely hasn't been vacuumed in ages. Overall, food was great, restaurant and service needs work. A wise person once told me "Carla, looks aren't everything." Let's be real here, when it comes to food and people, looks help. People like pretty things. I like my food to look just as good as it tastes, with the exception of Skyline Chili. My better half had a hankering for chili and because I didn't feel like putting up a fight, because I get to choose where we are going for dinner, I let him have Skyline (and let him get me some). Wife of the year. He got the order to go. I asked for two chili cheese sammies, no mustard or onion. When I opened the box there were three. He said "Well, if you don't eat the third, I will." Looks aren't everything, because If they were I probably wouldn't have eaten these. They didn't look awful, but they also didn't look great. Prior to eating them, I thought, "Nope, I'm only going to eat one and a half, maybe two, but definitely not three." I bit into the first sandwich, then proceeded to eat all three. The aroma of cinnamon, chili, garlic, flew through the air. The chili was rich, topped with a ton of shredded cheese. Skyline Chili is a Greek recipe, and you can tell that by the notes of cinnamon in their recipe. It was pretty reminiscent of the chili I grew up eating. I didn't leave an extra sammie for my husband. Oops. Apparently my pep talks are worthless. It appeared to be busy at the time, but that does not excuse the behavior from higher ups that I observed. The manager openly disrespected hard working servers, which was disheartening to see. Ok, here's the thing. I LIVE in Cincinnati. You can't drunk wobble 10 feet in this town without running into the cinnamon slurry of our Greek ancestors. That being said, I had to give this particular location some made props. We stopped in while driving back from a socially distanced New Year's with my husband's parents. To be perfectly honest, we needed a bathroom break. It is also a pandemic, so we were looking for a non gas station pit stop that would 1) be open and 2) possibly provide some nosh. This place exceeded expectation. We were greeting warmly upon entry by a bevy of employees all masked up and cheerful. When I mentioned that we needed the restroom, the lovely server (He was currently in training) showed us where they were located and asked if we would be needing anything else. It was such a small gesture, but he was beyond kind and didn't even seem to mind if we were there just to use the facilities. We got some food to go, but they were open for dining and while we waited for our meals, we watched them clean several different times. It was really an exceptional time. We went out to our car and ate and while out there, we watched two different employees-one male, one female-exit and head to their cars while another employee watched to be sure they made it safely there before heading back inside. Skyline Chili is a place people either love to hate or simply love. I'm one of the latter. Yes they do use WAY too much cheese. Yes their chili isn't really traditional chili and tastes somewhat like cinammon and, in some cases, chocolately, but I'll be doggone if it doesn't all work quite well as a whole. I was never really a huge fan of getting Skyline chili but would eat it occasionally if the occasion presented itself but my girlfriend really likes it so we've gotten it a bit more since I got together with her a few years ago and let me tell you that Skyline will really grow on you. This particular location is where we always go to get large orders for carryout and they have never,ever (knock on wood) screwed up an order. While I tend to favor the actual spaghetti my girlfriend loves their hot dogs so we usually get a mixture. One item on the menu I never forget to order is the chilito with sour cream. Yes it's small and a bit overpriced but wow, it's got some awesome taste and texture to it. I'd highly recommend it. Also, don't forget to try their spicy cheese if you like spicy food. Unlike most fast food it's actually a bit hot which makes it a nice change of pace. And don't be afraid to pull some cheese off the hot dog or spaghetti if it really makes your arteries clog just looking at it. I don't but please don't tell that to my doctor or I'll hear the lecture about cholesterol yet one more time! read more

Since my first Skyline Chili encounter a decade ago, not only am I still a huge 5-Way Chili & Spaghetti fan (order it "inverted"), I've come to really like their Greek Salad. Not only are the ingredients fresh and tasty, the dressing is absolutely killer! When I'm feeling disobedient to my diet, I love to scarf on some of their Cheese Coneys - smaller hot dogs served on steamed buns loaded with chili, cheese and onions. Yum-Yum! I typically can't stop there. I love any of their burritos - chili, bean or vegetarian. None of their fare would be adequate without applying their secret ingredient - their patented hot sauce which is available at every table. I love it so much that I even apply it to the soup crackers that come with every chili meal. If you want a break from the fast food jungle, Skyline is one of the best alternatives around. Let me start by saying I am not a super fan of Skyline Chili and I usually have to be held hostage by my husband, kids and grandkids to eat there. I am reviewing this location in hopes that someone reads this and cleans the place. We went here on a Sunday morning to meet up with my husband's brother, wife and niece. We had a party of 14 and we got there right after they had opened. We were the only customers in the place and it is big, so it should not have been a problem. We asked if we could push some tables together and the girl just pointed to another area with bigger tables. She gave us a look, like "seriously". I would have thought a huge party would have been a giant tip opportunity. We sat at 2 tables side by side. After a few minutes, she came over and said "do you need menus" with an attitude. I know a lot of people know what they are ordering before they walk through the door, but really. I was starting to think I had walked into Bizzaro world. We ordered food and watched it sit behind the counter for a long time. I don't know why she didn't just bring stuff out as it was made instead of having it all sit there getting cold. It was like we were an inconvenience. We were served crackers in dirty bowls, got no silverware, and had to track her down for refills. The bathrooms were filthy and we were the first customers of the day. I know it is tough hiring help these days, but a smile goes a long way. We have eaten at Skyline for decades and this is the absolute worst experience we have ever had. If you want Skyline, go to the Westerville location and avoid this sad, dirty place. read more

Me and my kids come in here quit often . I was debating on going to the one in 23 in powell Ohio and I wish we did . My serve took my drink order twice . Had someone else bring it and it was still wrong . He disappeared. The place is trashed they say sit wherever and not a clean table in site. I'm not sure what's going on with the management but this store never ran this way until here recently. It's sad because I live closer to here vs. powell. But this will be my last time here no one knows what there doing food is always cold . Now that we have our food my kids Mac and cheese in hot warm my food is room temp . I asked our server for two bigger plates to put our 3 ways on and he brings back the size plate so I say no bigger and then he brings one. No cracker refills what so ever. Trying to find a good staple food for Columbus I was told by a Cincinnati native co-worker that I have to get the chili spaghetti, I was also told by a friend back at home that I have to get a chili spaghetti as well. Well, I better get on it, the suggestion from my Co-workers was to go to skyline chili and get the 5-ways to experience the taste of Cincinnati and Columbus. Upon arriving to my destination the set up is similar to a Diner/Denny's. I arrived on a slow point of the day as most of the workers were just hanging out and conversating. I took a seat at the front bar (Why did i choose the most awkward place to sit?!) I ordered the regular sized 5-ways and watched as the cooks make my meal and having the rest of the staff staring at me as I snap a picture when it arrived in front of me. Food review: I'm glad I tried it, would i be coming back anytime soon? most likely not. The cinnamon really overpowered the flavor of the chili and even the mountain of cheese they stack on top. The meat looks like the Jack in the Box soy-meat they put in their $0.99 tacos. By the time I ate half of my meal i could see a pool of the watery sauce pooling at the bottom. it wasn't my thing and I'm sure if I had a home-cooked style of this Cincinnati favorite I'd enjoy it more but, this didn't cut it for me (not saying no one else would love it, just wasn't for me) with the over powering of the cinnamon flavor that ran though out the dish that hid the flavor of all the other ingredients with the watery spaghetti noodles that diluted the flavor even further it just didn't wow me. End of food review. The establishment is clean and when a fly flew into one of the chili they were really quick to react and dispose of the chili and replaced it with a new batch. The establishment was clean and my server was really great and attentive. But, since it was slow and they seemed over staffed during the time I came with majority of them just standing around and complaining about wages and hours it didn't really leave a great dining experience for me as I could overheard every complain as I was sitting right up front. read more

This was a very interesting experience. On a trip here to visit my sister, my brother-in-law recommended it. He grew up in the area, and said that it's a staple. So, my wife was somewhere (I don't remember), but I figured I'd try it since it's probably not her cup of tea. So, let's start with the fact that it's weird. Literally never have seen chili served on spaghetti. I wasn't starving, but I wanted to try their full wares, so I settled on the smallest portion of 3-Way (spaghetti, chili, cheese), and a Cheese Coney. First off, I think I ate about a block of cheese with those two items. Seriously, they must keep some dairy distributor VERY happy with the amount of cheese they put on their food. That being said, it was really good. I was pleasantly surprised by the odd combo of the chili/cheese/spaghetti. Not something I would've EVER come up with on my own (and I experiment; I once ate an entire loaf of fresh french bread with a jar of Tostito's Salsa con Queso). The thing that really got me about it was the chili; it has this sweetness and other flavor to it (I think it might be cinnamon or nutmeg or something), and it just somehow works with the cheddar and other flavors. The Cheese Coney was also good, and really worth a try; nothing amazing, but just good. Really, at minimum, it's worth the experience, especially if you're not from around this area. And I think I've finally made a stop in all the Skyline parlors in Cbus now and it goes without saying that I love Cincy Style Chili and the System they have to serve it up here. This location South of the intersection of Polaris and Orion and just East of I-71 can be tricky to get in and out of if you aren't familiar with the area. The 2 entrances to their parking lot are directly across the street from a Mc D's and often blocked by traffic waiting for the light. Once in the doors you'll find plenty of choices to pick your own seating from booths to tables to counter stools in the large, clean dining room. Service here is fast, attentive and friendly and for those looking for quick tasty eats with table service it can't be beat. You won't have to wait very long for meal prep times and this location makes me understand why I've never had a bad meal @ a Skyline parlor. Cincy Chili should never be confused with Tex-Mex, it's a Mediterranean-spiced meat sauce but they do offer a nice selection alternatives with Wraps, Burritos and Salads. An Ohio tradition! Ah Skyline it's from Cincinnati.. I use to go when we lived in Cbus about four years ago and before I was real active in yelp. It's a large bright place, you seat yourself. Menus on the table you can have the chili by itself or on a burrito, on hot dogs even fries. This is Chili is basically a Greek meat sauce no beans, you know it's got a hint of cinnamon and allspice a hit of tomato paste with the seriously ground beef. You can also get your Skyline 3,4,5 ways. It's put on a bed of spaghetti than chili, onion and or beans and a mound of cheddar cheese. The food is pretty straight forward it's a chain, the drinks are the usual suspects of soda and iced teas and when you sit down they give each person a bowl of oyster crackers. We both had the 4 Way, spaghetti, chili, onions and the cheese it was tasty, filling and just right. This location is pretty busy.. I wished they were a little quicker on cleaning off tables considering they were not short handed. Our server was very nice and even offered us to go cups of fresh drinks to go a nice touch.
