And I think I've finally made a stop in all the Skyline parlors in Cbus now and it goes without saying that I love Cincy Style Chili and the System they have to serve it up here. This location South of the intersection of Polaris and Orion and just East of I-71 can be tricky to get in and out of if you aren't familiar with the area. The 2 entrances to their parking lot are directly across the street from a Mc D's and often blocked by traffic waiting for the light. Once in the doors you'll find plenty of choices to pick your own seating from booths to tables to counter stools in the large, clean dining room. Service here is fast, attentive and friendly and for those looking for quick tasty eats with table service it can't be beat. You won't have to wait very long for meal prep times and this location makes me understand why I've never had a bad meal @ a Skyline parlor. Cincy Chili should never be confused with Tex-Mex, it's a Mediterranean-spiced meat sauce but they do offer a nice selection alternatives with Wraps, Burritos and Salads. An Ohio tradition! Ah Skyline it's from Cincinnati.. I use to go when we lived in Cbus about four years ago and before I was real active in yelp. It's a large bright place, you seat yourself. Menus on the table you can have the chili by itself or on a burrito, on hot dogs even fries. This is Chili is basically a Greek meat sauce no beans, you know it's got a hint of cinnamon and allspice a hit of tomato paste with the seriously ground beef. You can also get your Skyline 3,4,5 ways. It's put on a bed of spaghetti than chili, onion and or beans and a mound of cheddar cheese. The food is pretty straight forward it's a chain, the drinks are the usual suspects of soda and iced teas and when you sit down they give each person a bowl of oyster crackers. We both had the 4 Way, spaghetti, chili, onions and the cheese it was tasty, filling and just right. This location is pretty busy.. I wished they were a little quicker on cleaning off tables considering they were not short handed. Our server was very nice and even offered us to go cups of fresh drinks to go a nice touch. It's Skyline time. You either love this place or hate it. I love it. This is a great location. The service is consistent and super fast. Cathy always does a great job. My favorites are: extreme cheese coney, Greek salad, chilito and the 3 way. I load everything up with their awesome hot sauce. When I feel like going big I ask them to cover the chilito with extra chili and cheese. So good! My kids like sitting at the bar and they even have arts and crafts every Wednesday. If you've ever lived in or visited Cincinnati, you know they do chili all wrong compared to the rest of the country. But in Cincinnati, soupy, finely ground chili with a dash of cinnamon and chocolate is king and Skyline is the favorite. I grew up a Navy brat and lived pretty much everywhere but my dad was originally from Northern Kentucky and would crave this stuff. He'd have my grandparents and aunts ship it to him no matter where we lived. I never was a super big fan of it, but after so much exposure, and working in one of the Skyline restaurants in Dayton, it really grew on me and I find myself having bizarre urges to drive until I find a Skyline and chow down. That all being said, this location did not disappoint me when last that unquenchable desire struck. Our waiter was great - super attentive, on top of his game. Our drinks never ran dry (very big plus in my book), our food was on our table almost the second the kitchen was done preparing it, we had our bill delivered without having to ask, he brought us a box when he saw we were struggling to finish. I was anxious to try Skyline since I have never had the opportunity and I know they have a cult like following with some folks. I must say that I wasn't really impressed. The chili just wasn't what I thought it would be. It was very flat and I couldn't understand what all the hype was about. They definitely don't skimp on the cheese and that is a good thing. The hot dog was ok with a crisp casing and the bread was fresh. As a whole, I don't think I will be back. I went to this Skyline on August 15th with my wife. It's a good example of what a Skyline restaurant should look like, but there were a couple small negatives that kept me from rating it 5 stars. The good: friendly service, clean, fresh oyster crackers (opposed to stale ones), offered a drink to go, offered bibs, food was of expected quality. The bad: my wife and I went at night, and there was no overhead lighting in the parking lot or surrounding area. It made it very difficult to see. Also, I took my Skyline ambassador card, which lets me eat from a cool blue plate, which wasn't brought out. I know that's a petty thing to complain about, but it was my first time using the card and I was excited to eat from the blue plate. This Skyline Chili is in the Polaris area in north Columbus. As I cannot get Skyline Chili in Alabama, I take every opportunity when I'm in Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, Clearwater or Columbus to get a Five-Way and a Cheese Coney. They now have the Extreme Habanero Cheese full-time which is a bit tastier than the standard Cheddar (but Cheddar is great too). I have not tried the Burrito or other menu items because I cannot get away from the Five-Way. This location is very convenient and easy to get in and out via a lighted intersection. read more

I LOVE Skyline but have been disappointed the last 2 visits. They were closed recently for 2 weeks, so I'm assuming COVID. We went there on Saturday around 3:00 and were welcomed as usual. We sat down & it took about 10 minutes before our Server came over. He was very nice & took our order & brought it to us. He never came back to check on us and the Manager & Cook were busy with carry out orders. 4 employees were standing around just looking at their phones, oblivious to the few customers. The Manager didn't seem to notice either. So , very poor Service & something is different with the chili sauce. It tastes different "off" and is very thick now. It needs to be saucy. This is the same complaint I had about the previous visit also before the 2 week shutdown. I'm hoping they get things back to normal as the available tables were clean, but many dirty tables & the carpet was strewn with crackers & such. When they first opened up during the Pandemic, everything was clean and looked like someplace you would feel comfortable eating in. I will give them a third chance & hope things will be better all the way around. I would hate to see them close permanently, but this location really needs to get back to basics. read more

Sometimes I go months without going there due to closer locations but when I go back they remember me. They usually remember my order (3-Way with Hab and Diet Doc). I had never been to a Skyline, let alone heard of one until my second visit to Columbus. A Cinci favorite, Skyline prides itself on their Coneys and Chili. Topped high with cheese, this or the 3 way is definitely the way to go. I liked the chili in particular because it doesn't contain beans but has added chocolate sauce when it's made. I did drive-through and got a Coney Bowl. It was super-fast, and still hot after a 10 minute drive. The cheese portion is very generous, and it was bagged into two portions separately from the chili so as to better survive a to-go commute. They included a package of oyster crackers and several hot sauce packets. I tried the hot sauce on one bite, however I personally do not like hot sauces that have a strong vinegar taste. I would put my own Cholula or something on it, but honestly it did not need any extra kick, it is a slow building heat and I would only have added a bit of Chipolte Cholula if I'd had some just for the extra flavor. The coney dogs (three of them) are a bit on the small side, like the smaller dogs you get in a 10 pack instead of 8 pack. The skin was a little tough on them, something I only started noticing when we noticed our toddler disliking tough-skinned hot dogs, so I can't help noticing this now. The dogs themselves were nothing special, somewhat bland, and hard to cut into bites with only the included plastic fork. They added chunk and went well with the chili, which is where all the flavor comes from anyway. The chili reminds me of something I had while travelling to Detroit? where my host raved about it having chocolate as an ingredient. It's not chocolate, more of a licorice-like fennel or anise aroma. It's certainly different than Texas / cumin chili, and while the flavor and odor is certainly different, it is good. The chili is super-thin when it is hot. A few minutes after I stirred in the crackers and all the cheese and it cooled down a little, the crackers soaked up some liquid and the cheese helped make it thicker the more it cooled, to the point when it was just "warm" I could cut it into bites, thus why they serve it with a fork not a spoon? The prices are not listed on the main franchise website, so I don't know if prices vary too much. My grand total at this location for a Coney Bowl was just over $5, which is reasonable for a good sized portion of no-bean chili and 3 hot dogs with a ton more cheese than I'd normally put on it myself at home. This particular Skyline Chili will forever be close to my heart, not just because of the food but also because of the honesty and kindness of the staff. Our famished family stopped to eat there on our long Christmas vacation drive from Missouri back home to NY. We were excited to try the local dish, Cincinnati chili. The restaurant was clean. Service was fast and friendly. The chili had a unique blend of spices I couldn't quite place. They also had bean free chili which pleased my 5 year old (you can add beans if you like). We ordered our chili served on top of spaghetti with cheese and onions. It was tasty, satisfying, filling and comforting. Three days after our stop at Skyline we were at home in NY. It dawned on me that I hadn't seen my purse (packed with Christmas gift cash btw) in a few days. I assumed it was in our cramped car beneath all of the stuff we accumulated on our trip, however, upon unpacking, it was not in the car. I frantically began calling every place we stopped on our drive. When I called Skyline Chili in Columbus they told me they indeed did have my purse and would ship it to me ASAP. Several days later it arrived undisturbed with ALL of my belongings and cash in tact. Thank you to the staff and any customers who may have discovered my purse, kept it safe, didn't take anything and sent it back to me. You have saved me a lot of worry, hassle and regret. I am a huge fan of local specialties. So, my first time to Ohio, I had to try the Cincinnati chili; as seen on TV. Sadly, i do not think it's that great. This stuff needs to be craved, like a White Castle (or better, White Mana). You know you will not be doing exercise or even going out after eating white castle but you still need to eat it.
