We returned tonight and had excellent service. We were instantly greeted, and Roxanne was on it! She also made sure to let us know how sorry they were about our previous experience. Let me start by saying that I am a Buckeye, and I miss Cincinnati style chili. It's not your typical Hoosier chili, but I recommend that you try Skyline with an open mind, and you will have a new favorite chili. I am a vegetarian, and the vegetarian burrito is simple awesome! I have several different veggie chili recipes of my own that I prepare, but none are as good as Skyline. I would recommend that everyone try the veggie burrito, even carnivores are pleasantly surprised. So tasty that you will never miss the meat! The rest of my family are carnivores, and they vouch for the regular version. See if you can guess the secret ingredient! Service is very friendly and lightning-quick. The fact that it's cheap is just another point in Skyline's favor. And the restaurant is always very clean. Skyline chili is like the hidden gem of all hidden gems. If you haven't discovered this place yet you are missing out. I am very disappointed in myself that I hadn't reviewed it yet. Seriously the only "chili" I will eat. I love it. Great food, great taste, great quality and great price. My husband grew up eating this food, so he thought it was great. I have only eaten it once before and was not impressed. So when he stopped here again, I thought I would try something other than the 3 way type chili. The waitress said their salads were good, so I tried the buffalo chicken salad. This is "their" kind of place: The little guys rule here. In this establishment you will find the much desirable 2/3-size chill--- dogs. This is the way "they" like them. Stacked high with about two inches of mild cheese. Very easily covering any sharp flavors. Also it is easier for "them" to finish "their" plates. Allowing the parents to praise them in public. Also leaving room to try things like a few French fries. When I was there, a grandpa was playing a "tough love" stance with a little guy. He didn't have room to finish his food. But the minute desert was mentioned the little guy got hungry and kind of started fussing. Something about he had room for peppermint ice cream (like grandpa was going to have), but not enough for his food. Since he couldn't finish eating he wouldn't get any. (It was a very supportive environment for a grandpa to win). Skyline also has older people who come in. Read one of the many newspapers lying around, with a cup of coffee. Worst service that I have had in a very long time. Waited forever for my food to be served COLD. Asked for refills on crackers and coffee. Had finished my meal by the time crackers arrived. Coffee arrived even later and again COLD. Had included a carryout item and had asked for the cheese be left on the side so I could reheat later. That wasn't done either. As a Cincinnati native, I am so glad to have a few Skyline locations in Indy! Yes, it's true. The chili does contain cocoa and cinnamon. And yes, it's AMAZING! This is definitely one of those places where you'll either hate it or love it. Cheese coneys are a classic choice. They come standard with mustard and onions, so be sure to ask if you don't want those. I also usually order a 3-way (Spaghetti, chili, and cheese). The cheese will be piled sky high on your plate! The service here was pretty good, although that's not saying much when there were only 3 groups in the whole place. I love Chili so I'd been eyeing this place for a while. Finally stopped in a few weeks ago. I didn't realize this was a chain, but oh well. I had a Coney dog and an order of chili cheese fries. I have to say, everything was good - but the chili is weird. I know people love Skyline chili, not me. I had the 3 way baked potato with sour cream. The potato was cooked well and there was a ton of cheese but the chili was not what I expected. There was a strong flavor of allspice and cloves. The chili was also very soupy, my husband had chili cheese fries and there was so much liquid in the bottom of the bowl it made the fries soggy. He sent them back. I do love experimenting with different flavors in my chili but the allspice and clothes were very overwhelming. Will not be going back. read more

The Cincinnati based Skyline Chili is a household name, especially since you can buy their chili in a can at Walmart. This location is one of 4 in the Indy area and always impresses me with their speed of service. I've never had to ask for a refill, which is impressive because I drink soda like a fish. The cheese coney's are why I grace their doorstep on a regular basis. The dogs themselves are only about 4 inches long so, you've got to order at least 2. I get three. I need more to wash down all the Pepsi I inhale. Be ready to be covered with cheese, too. Their shredded cheese has a little spice to it (not hot) and they pile it to the ceiling. The bread is a little thick compared to the dog but you probably need the whole of it not to have the tower collapse on your sticky-free fingers. Fun story: Today I came for lunch and there was a party going on. The place was packed full of people celebrating the retirement of a man who, for 25+ years, frequented Skyline every single Friday. What a crazy amount of commitment! He didn't even work there but was their most dedicated customer! That's love I like to see by a local restaurant, especially one thats part of a chain. OMG, I love having 5-ways with you Skyline. 5-way chili that is: spaghetti, chili, red beans, cheese, onions, mmmmm. Why aren't you in my hometown. I guess I have to wait until next year when I make the annual Christmas family visit to get some more of your goodness. Cincinnati style chili rocks and I believe the secret is cinnamon. I ate Skyline growing up and every Thursday in High School for 4 years. I moved away 12 years ago and have missed the chili since. Yeah there are the cans and the spice mixes but it's never the same as when they slop the stuff right in front of you. Welp, 6 years ago when I went vegetarian I thought my Skyline days were over, but wait, there's a "vegetarian way"!! It was pretty yummy and I came back a few times while in Indy for work. When I saw this was near my hotel, I HAD to try it. A month or two later I was back and ate there again. the Chili hit me the same way so I can say it is consistent. First thing I noticed what the huge amount of cheese. Hey, I'm from Wisconsin and this was more than even I would have put on mine! Now to the "meat" of the matter. My friends and i were a but dubious about the prospect of eating the food upon hearing this, but we figured we'd give it a try. Big mistake.
