This is one of my favorite seafood places to go to! I love the fact that their daily fish changes. And the daily fish is not just some ordinary fish, you can range from barracuda to hoki. It was absolutely tasted good. For the main course, I got the ultimate fish taco which was huge! For the type of fish, I got the Waldo which was a fatty kind of fish. But it tasted so good as well. Slapfish was one of my go to's for the last few years. They recently were bought out by their corporate office and made big changes. You can definitely see their influence from choices of food now available to their marketing. I personally don't find any of the changes good for the consumers. They cut out a few of the foods I like as well. What they have is still good, but not as good! We have been going to Slap Fish since they opened. We use to love it here. Over the last couple of years, the quality of the food has declined. They serve you a giant bowl of rice and veggies and strips of fish? I would rather pay an 21$ dollars for a bowl, and actually get a 4oz piece of salmon at least. Chowder fries?!? Friggin' ingenious!! I'm salivating just thinking of them. The fries were an easy choice. The rest was difficult to narrow down, big we finally decided on and the lobster taquitos, clobster grilled cheese (with add on green chiles), and the poke bowl. All excellent! I was really overwhelmed (in a good way) with all the side and condiment options every dish had to choose from. As a self proclaimed condiment queen, I was in heaven. The first time I came here like a year ago it was great. I enjoyed the rotating selection of fish and fresh hot fries that came with each meal. Something changed in the past few months. I don't know if they got bought or what, but the menu is completely different now, the fish selection is minimal and never changing, and the overall quality of the servings and the food has dropped dramatically. I thought maybe once it was just a fluke, but I've been back a couple more times and it's been the same. This location also seems to be consistently understaffed on top of everything else. Love the healthy options available at Slap Fish when you're in a hurry on lunch from work. I usually get the Grilled Fish bowl with brown rice. This location on Holly Dr. is far better that the other one on Louisiana. Although we've seen gradual price increases with pandemic and supply chain shortages, this location doesn't nickel and dime you like the Louisiana location. We've been here many times and have always had great service and food. Tonight was a huge exception. Got to the counter. Two patrons had finished ordering and we were "up". First thing out of the counter person's mouth was "Were not taking orders for 10 minutes because the kitchen is behind." What the heck does that have to do with taking my order?! Put the order in and let them catch up is what I'd say. Maybe I'm wrong, but this caused us to walk right out. Had the Epic Shrimp Burrito today! It was a delicious wrapped culinary "present" with layers of delectable flavor!! The size was enormous! And every single layer of crunch, sauce, texture, flavor... was so deliciously satisfying for my taste buds. The shrimp was delicately & intentionally cooked by a well experienced chef who obviously was not rushed, and I'm almost certain he must have been reciting poetry to my shrimp as he prepared it because each plump, tender, juicy, sweet shrimp was so deliciously perfect! The service is fantastic, and they are ready to help walk you through the menu and give you the run down of all the deets that make their dishes snap crackle pop. Never had fried salmon before, but they let you mix and match if you get the two-piece fish and my husband was feeling adventurous. When I first saw it, I was disappointed at how much lobster was in it. But once I took a bite, I realized there was a lot more lobster inside! A lot of places cheap out by overdoing the mayo and butter to pretend there is more lobster. Not Slapfish! Here they put a TON of fresh, delicious lobster with just enough mayo and butter to flavor it. The bread and pickle on the side were also delicious! We've lived here for three weeks and I've been here three times. I love it! The seafood is fresh, atmosphere is clean and casual, staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The bowl is hearty and delish, the fish and chips are generous (don't get two pieces of fish unless you are really hungry) and the lobster taquitos are a perfect light meal! I'm hooked! I'll be entirely honest, I really don't get the hype about this place. The food is okay, and in my opinion pretty pricey. My absolute favorite part of this place is the soda! The soda is absolutely delicious! I give the soda 5 stars!! It's almost $4 a glass, but it is refillable so it is totally worth it! The cherry cream and coconut mixed are absolutely amazing!!! The fish is okay. I ordered flounder, and it was just okay. Not bad, but I wouldn't say it is my favorite. My mom got cod fish and that was better than the flounder. The fish from the fish and chips dish was probably my favorite from bunch. The salads are really pretty, but I haven't eaten mine yet. I will say it has a nice assortment of veggies, and it's nice that it is not just all lettuce. The fried Oreos were okay. They appear to use the same breading that they use on the fried fish so the texture is similar. They are definitely not like a traditional fried Oreo. They also drizzle a salted caramel sauce on top, which is not bad, but different from the powdered sugar. Overall, I would say the food is decent, but for three people we paid almost $70. The ambiance is similar to a fast food joint so I guess that's why I felt so torn about spending almost $70. In terms of the staff, they are okay. They get the job done. I know it is probably pretty costly to get fish down to New Mexico, but due to the prices, a visit here would be something that would be just an occasional treat. read more

I eagerly approached this new addition to the far NE Heights restaurant scene. I was looking forward to tasting their lobster roll, as I KNOW lobster rolls after a lifetime of summers and 10 years of living in Maine. Staff was very welcoming and service oriented. The side salad was crispy fresh and delicious. Unfortunately my husbands fish and chips and my lobster roll were average: not bad, just not up to coastal fresh. I can't say I'm Surprised, we are in the high desert,but I was hopeful. Please note, I am picky on seafood, as I've been a coastal gal most of my life. I won't say do not go. This restaurant is certainly worthy of a visit and if you're not picky on the delicacies of the sea, you'll likely find this a great treat in the desert city of ABQ. I walked past 4 tables that had shit all over them before finally find one clean (enough) to eat at. Meanwhile all the employees are chatting not doing anything. The cook is singing banging his cooking utensils together rocking out to the rock n roll music that was blaring inside. I would've preferred to listen to the music vs him trying to recreate the epic voices of rock legends personally but maybe others enjoy his off key singing. On whatever he's a bad singer and having fun......7:25 7:30 7:35 7:40 7:45 Seriously theres no one in here. Im obviously the only order and its taking 30 minutes to make a lobster taquito (which was 90 breading 7% goop and 3% (lobster?) and a shrimp burrito that had a store bought basic tortilla 3 french fries rice guac and salsa. We don't have a lot of choices up here in the heights so when we were told about Slapfish we decided to give it a try. First off, what's with the itsy bitsy trays? I can't think of any explanation to put good looking food on an aluminum ugly tray, even a cardboard box would be a step up. My husband ordered the fish and chips (1 piece) and fries. It looked beautiful and it was huge, and he said that he liked it except it was served on top of the fries which you could not eat until half the fish was gone and by then they were soft and mushy. I ordered the clobster grilled cheese with bacon. It was presented nice with a little parsley sprinkle and due to the tiny tray one half sandwich was on top of the other resulting in a soggy half underneath. There was no bacon and very little taste of lobster. Unlike some of the photos posted my sandwich did not have any lump lobster, just shredded. Everything was flavorless even with that red stuff they put on my cold and limp french fries. All in all our visit was disappointing. read more

First time Slapfish customers and my wife and I had a pretty darn good meal. Being first timers we really wanted to get a few tastes in so we went big! Ordered lobster taquitos, cole slaw, and New England clam Chowder fries as apps! The taquitos and Cole slaw were unremarkable, but those chowder fries are something else! Wish they would have added a bit more chowder but next time I'll request more! Our entrees, surf and turf burger and lobster grinder were pretty damn good. Although the burger part of the surf and turf could have used a little beefing up... pun intended. It had melted cheese with lobster pieces on top a burger! What a concept.. I loved it! The lobster grinder was good, spicy, but my wife and I agreed that it was above average but not what it could be... Lastly, what made the place awesome were the two employees working! We love love this place but went tonight and had an unfortunately disappointing experience. Apparently they went corporate and things have changed. The local tractor sodas are gone, the beer battered fish is gone (still have regular batter but the beer batter was SO good!!) I got the power bowl for the billionth time in a row and immediately when I tasted the shrimp it tasted horrendously awful, so much that I had to spit it out. I told the cashier and she said "I know it's really bad. I've told them not to serve the shrimp but they do anyways. So...with high expectations based on so many reviews - we were not very impressed. I'm thinking we just ordered the wrong food, period. We went the "fresh" Hoki and pompano and they both had a funny aroma and aftertaste. Not sure... also, having them served up in a "bowl" with a mix of like warm rice, cold salad and buttery warm veggies...bad mistake. We should have asked more questions. I'm thinking we should have just got some fish and chips and called it a night. The chowder was also over-thought. This place LOves it's "old bay" seasoning...or whatever they call it. They put it, and a lot of it, on everything!! If we were to return, I'd stick with the fish and chips and I'd beg them to please not put that magic red powder on anything. Chowder should stand on its own, not by the toppings you cover it up with. I'd 86 the whole bowl thing too. If they're trying to compliment a higher end piece of fish, that's advertise as "fresh", I wouldn't burry it in a bowl with a bunch of oddly chosen flavorless items. The shrimp burrito is heavy. It's pretty good, but no even close to the tastiness of the lobster roll or lobster grilled cheese. The previous visits I've had have been stellar at this location. My last, far from that idyllic. The food was bland, no character. Even when the server took the food away - fish and chips- not even a question. Just picked it up as if it was normal to say my PREPAID food tasted like crap. Pretty arrogant to demand me $20 upfront, then not even care that it wasn't even half eaten. No offer of "would you like something else?" , not even a question. It was empty when I walked in, and that should've told me right there. If you're demanding payment upfront, you better deliver. Especially when you have dozens of other reviews praising the food. I don't know exactly what is up with this slap fish. Allegedly, the "good" kitchen staff was taken to the uptown location. Maybe you should focus on quality food at both locations, or you'll probably find yourself with customers like myself moving onto plenty of other restaurants in the Albuquerque area offering better and cheaper seafood. Willing to give it another go, but at $20 a person for tasteless seafood, this is an easy cut to my monthly budget. I hope my next visit is better. read more

I bookmarked this spot based on previous reviews on Yelp. Turns out, the people were spot on! The home-grown spot was everything. The food was amazing and the people that run it are equally amazing. I ordered the Lobster Grinder which comes with fries and I added a virgin cucumber salad with it. The person who took my order thought I wanted the salad in lieu of the fries so the fries didn't come out. When the manager came by and asked if we were ok, I said my fries didn't come out with the order. The manager quickly resolved it. They shrimp roll came with tons of shrimp and the side of veggies were amazing. I have to say they made everything perfect and it is definitely a spot I will visit again!
