Drinks were expensive, we ordered 2 sodas at the cost of 4 bucks each. The place reminds me of Buffalo Billiards at Dupont Circle in Washington DC. They had a dance floor with some folks dancing. Decent place to have friends stop by and chill. As an event coordinator, this place has a lot more potential than it gives themselves. Renting out a pool table or ping pong table is way overpriced and ridiculous. Drinks are someone priced alright, but as an establishment that can give you the bar/lounge/club scene, they need to let off on the pricing. I've held events here before and as a previous promoter, it's been a hit and miss at this place. Even for my own bday event, I had difficulty bringing in some friends, even as I was promoting at the same time. Again, would love to give his place more stars but Slate is definitely ripping your wallet in half by the rate of renting tables and so forth. Dined here on a weeknight and was surprised by how big the place was. Good for large groups. Great hip-hop music played in the background (groups of girls were singing along to Killing Me Softly). Tasty, reasonably priced food and friendly service. The main floor is a bar/lounge. Downstairs is equally as spacious and full of billiard tables. It was pretty slow when we came on a Thurs. night, but I heard it's busier on weekends and some people dance on the main floor. -Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad ($15): Large serving and tasty. I went there for an event recently. It is a nice atmosphere and the staff I spoke to were nice as well. However I felt I did not get my money's worth in terms of food or drink. The drinks are so watered down! I had 3 margaritas in less than 2 hours, and barely felt anything. They didn't have any well tequila (which I didn't find out until my second drink, after I ordered) so I was given a higher priced liquor. I was charged the well price for the first one but have to pay full for the others. Then I ordered the fried chicken nuggets with a sauce, which I assumed would be on the side. When I got it, the nuggets were covered with sauce and I was not given a fork to eat with, so I have to eat them with my fingers. I am not against eating that way but as I said, they were covered in sauce, so my fingers were gross by the time I was done. And, as I expected, my bill was larger than what I would like. When you first walk into Slate, there is a huge bar to your right with 4 huge, and I mean HUGE TV screens. On the left is some nice seating with tables to eat and drink, along with 4 more HUGE TV screens. In the back is a separate lounge with leather seating and another HUGE TV and a DJ. Downstairs has another bar with lots of pool tables, ping pong tables, more leather seating and tables to eat and drink. I didn't notice any huge TV screens, but there is a separate, large private room with glass doors that includes 2 pool tables, 2 ping pong tables, leather seating, etc. I was very impressed with the layout of the space. But I'm giving this place 3 out of 5 stars because: I was disappointed with the menu. It mostly contained finger foods, salads, pizza and burgers - something I did not expect at such a nice looking place that includes the word "restaurant" in its name - unless there is another menu I don't know about. And the staff/service was a little slow, and kinda confused. I had the Mandrin Mule from the bar and it was pretty good. So my suggestion is to have a nice, filling meal somewhere else before you go to Slate. This place is great only for the bar and the billiards; to host short parties and events. Awful place. I felt incredibly disrespected. I would elaborate, but I was turned away and not given an explanation for my treatment; so really, I cannot even say more. I advise all to stay away. Really disappointed with the scheduling/ planning coordinators for this place. My friend reserved this place weeks in advance to celebrate her birthday with a group of ~20 people. However, when we got to the place at the designated time 8pm on a Saturday night, the security guards would not let us in because there was a private event going on until 10pm. They told us to come back and we may possibly be able to get in then... honestly, if there was going to be a private event at the time, the least they could've done was let us know and not set the reservation or give us a call beforehand. Whoever is managing the scheduling/ planning of this place needs to step up their game. i read that this place has a dress code and all for weekend and I thougt I won't be allowed in because me and my friends were just done from class and we were wearing T shirts, sneakers, and bagpacks, but apparently they didn't even question it and let us in after checking our IDs they have a place to leave coat and bags for $5 (cash only). there's a bar and dance floor upstairs, and everything else is downstairs. you can go down by stairs or by slides. the slide was pretty fun i think you should all give it a go. downstairs there are table tennis, basketball machines, table soccer, karaoke room, mini bowling (with endless line), arcades machines, jenga, bar and sofas and so on. i like how the place is pretty chill. most machine cost only $1/play and you can pay with card. it was pretty fun and they play great music. we ordered margaritas and food too. the margarita didn't taste strong at all. food tasted better than i expected. overall we had quite a great night read more

SHOUT OUT TO TOM THE PROMOTER FOR THE SET-UP! Clubbing in NYC can be stressful, especially when trying to get good plans going. Originally I was skeptical about helping my friend set up her birthday party at Slate, but once I started working with Tom, everything went smoothly. Unfortunately Slate's own internal management can bother some people (because of how unclear things can be with price + tax + tip etc), but because of how helpful Tom was with setting everything up for us, I can give Slate a good review here! Also, loved the 2-floor set up (upstairs = bar & dance area, downstairs = bar & games, a lot more chill)! There are also a lot of bathrooms (1 upstairs, 2 downstairs) so it breaks up with annoyance of long bathroom lines that can get common in other clubs. Venue space was great, and thankfully (due to a great promoter) the management was as well for our experience. My main suggestion to anyone wanting to come to Slate is to work with a promoter who can help you deal with the business side of the club! Otherwise once you're here, you'll love it. I was really just distressed because my iPhone had just been stolen--- did not appreciate being accused of two things that I was not. Love how they renovated the space! Downstairs is a huge game floor with pool tables, pong games, giant Jenga, giant connect-four, giant chess on the floor, and foosball machines. The giant games seem to be a theme. And from my experience, these giant games are free. There's still not enough room to dance on the first floor (will there ever be?), and it's almost impossible to walk from the entrance through the tables and to the bar, but it definitely appears more spacious, breathable and inviting. It's awesome that there's still no cover. You just pay for a coat check (per item). Dress code is pretty relaxed. I don't remember really dressing up for this place. read more

This review will be more about the establishment itself and not so much the food, though I did get Macaroni & Cheese bites to have something in my stomach before the turn-up commenced! I l loved Slate! Everything minus the New York City priced drinks was awesome. We got here around 7:00pm so it was free to come in, I'm sure there's some dumb-sized cover to get in after a certain time, but this review is about MY experience. Anyway, they have games such as Chess, Checkers, Connect 4, Scrabble, Foosball, huge Jenga and of course Pool all downstairs for you to use so you can do a lot more then just stand around while drinking. I got beat by Tiffany in... everything. Lol. Around 11:00pm the downstairs area started getting full of people so we made our way upstairs for some DANCING! My baby loves to dance. Lol. Huge Dance-floor + good music + good crowd + tons of games = Fun filled night! I discovered this Place pretty late but I am glad that I ultimately did! This Place is split up into different levels. Level 1 (basement) is a really chill bar-like place with good music. It has shuffleboard, football, pool and table tennis! It's a good hangout place for friends and couples. All of the games are paid but at a very reasonable price. There is a good seating area as well. Level 2 is where the magic happens. It has a huge dance floor with VIP tables. The crowd here falls in the hotter bracket with all ages rocking the dance-floor. The drinks are reasonable prices (around $14) and are well made. There is no cover charge. Table reservations start at $325. I have heard that the finger food at this Place is also good but I have never tried it. I take away one star because like many other NY clubs, Slate doesn't offer a table minimum option (only bottle service). Also, the lights at the dance floor are extremely bright which kind of takes away the feel of a nightclub! read more

We had our company Christmas party at this establishment. We are a group of Doctors. Pros: Food was delicious, bartenders were attentive, games were fun. Cons: at the end of our party time slot (10:00PM), we were promptly escorted to the exit like we were trespassing cattle. As our guests were waiting to retrieve their coats at the coat check, one of the bouncers (pictured below, facing foreground) referred to my wife as "throwing her hands up like she's ghetto" and proceeded to say to another of our guests "I will throw down b$&!@" .... Another bouncer (pictured facing away) physically forced my wife and myself out of the building. We asked to speak to the manager and asked the name of security manager, which we were refused. I was really disappointed with our experience for my sisters Bachelorette party. We pre booked bottle service. Our party was 16 and our area had 1 couch that sat maybe 5 if we squished. That was definitely not the set up I was expecting for that price. We had no actual area and spent most of the time getting bumped and pushed by others in our space. We were told we could leave our coats in our area and someone stole my sisters coat, with her passport. Also, our bottles didn't even get to us until almost 30 minutes after we ordered them. And there were hardly anything to mix them with. We had to flag down another worker to get seltzer and more juice. When we needed refills, it took WAY too long. I was expecting much better accommodations and service for the price we paid. And I definitely dont think the server deserved the automatic gratuity that was added on. read more

We were on the line by the actual slate door and were told that that was only the line for people who have bottle service and that the other line is in the back. When I asked what do you mean by back, the bouncer just said "the back" so we all had to go to the line down the street which was wrapped around the corner. The line was moving EXTREMELY SLOW. Some bouncer comes up and yells that "girls is 50 and guys 100 bar tap, it's cold outside soo..." we're all super confused as to what that means and no one explains anything. We over hear people leaving and saying that they're charging 50 to 100 dollars to get in. Our friends get there slowly and we go up to the bouncer and ask what the price and cut off time is and he says that it's a bar tap and they are charging people out here before they go inside. Which is so ridiculous, so we tell our friends and all 15 of us leave and the birthday girl is super upset because she actually emailed Slate a week prior asking about something like this and no one replied to her email at all. So many people left the line angry. Come to find out the next morning that they were actually lying to people about there being a bar tap so people would leave!!! WHAT THE FUCK??? Who does that????? That is the craziest thing I've heard and super rude for an establishment to do to people who are there to have fun. Honestly it seems like this business is run by assholes. Both levels play two different music, with the upstairs hosting DJs and majority of the party scene. There was no cover charge, but I did see the bouncer deny people from getting in for havinf things such as timberlands on but sneakers were okay. I visited Slate NY on a Friday night to take advantage of a fun, trendy atmosphere with affordable drink specials. The bartenders weren't the quickest, but the drinks were definitely worth the money. It was spacious and entertaining with the great games and music. I was having a great time until I was HARASSED by a waitress who AGGRESSIVELY INSISTED that I provide her a tip nearly an hour and a half after I received my food order. This very RUDE woman came up to me and asked not one, not two, but THREE TIMES if I was sure that I didn't want to leave her a tip. This was not only ANNOYING and DISGUSTING, but it was HUMILIATING to have her approach me in the middle of a game and in the company of several friends and other patrons. I have no problem tipping when someone provides a service. However, this women did NOT (I walked over to her to take my order. I do not recall her delivering the order, as it was not placed in my hands but rather on the table in my vicinity- another issue of itself). It was in extremely poor taste for her to come over and attempt to BULLY me into providing her a tip; because of that I am unable to provide the quality rating I would have if this had not happened. read more

Not the experience I was expecting at this establishment. Firstly, the happy hour options are not that great; here's what it consist of, beer (bud wiser only), margarita (this was way too sweet), mojito, wine and well drinks (Bacardi rum or absolute vodka). Anyway skip past the drink disappointment, my friends and I make our way to the lower level using the indoor slide (which is the only reason I'm giving them a one star) just to be told the venue was being rented out for an event and we couldn't play any of the games. Okay, I get it.. no biggie, so we move on to enjoy whatever it is we can at this establishment and right before we were about to leave we figure why not get a group pic cause I mean.. who doesn't love a group picture, only issue is we needed someone nice enough to snap the shot, saw what appear to be the downstairs security just standing there (it was not busy, this was still a little after the doors opened) so we decided let's ask him if he can just snap the pic (seems like a small favor) however he flat out said "heck no" turned his back on us and walked away.. all we can do is LAUGH.. cause I mean clearly these security guards must think they're working for the CIA or some high end establishment to be so RUDE!
