Inside of business clean and welcoming. Noise level is never loud. Food is always food. My favorite dish is the egg sandwich mainly because of the taste and quality of the bread used. Server came by often. Prices are fair. I came during lunch hour and it was steady but not busy.

Never quite a reason for me to drive downtown on its own, but I'll sometimes meet people at Slate Street Cafe for lunch if we need a solid and fast place in the area. The food is reliably good - not great. Good ingredients and tasty: you aren't going to be unhappy but the chow somehow never ever hits the "I can't wait to come back!" level for me. Part of that might be that portions are not particularly large - yet the prices are reliably at the warm end of things. Service is reliably good - although not warm. The room is attractive - but stacks of patio chairs stored in the hallway don't bring an upscale vibe. The owner knows her wine - this is a solid place for that. For me Slate Street teeters between "Okay" and "Good" . . . let's go with "good" in this review.

My son suggested we visit Slate Street Cafe, because he'd had great meals there in the past. We must have visited on an off day. They were busy and had already run out of a number of items on the menu. I ordered an egg sandwich with avocado---and part of the avocado was gloppy and brown. I removed the yucky parts and the rest of the sandwich was tasty. The egg sandwich came with hash browns, which were extremely salty. My son ordered the steak and eggs, and the steak was encrusted in so much salt it was almost inedible as served; he had to scrape off the salt layer to eat it. The staff seemed rushed and inattentive. The sandwich was about $16 and the steak and eggs $22. The prices could have been justified had the quality been there, but honestly, the quality just wasn't there. It was a disappointing experience.

This restaurant was recommended by a local friend. I ordered banana bread as an appetizer, which I do not have a photo of. there was one slice which was cut in half and it had been warmed up. Very tasty. We (party of 5) all had a bite to share. For breakfast, I ordered the veggie omelet with cheesy hashbrowns. I asked for light cheese and they got it right. I was pretty excited about the large amount of veggies in my omelet. I enjoyed my breakfast. My partner ordered the basic breakfast, and he enjoyed the meal but thought more hashbrowns could have been provided. a Friend ordered scrambled eggs with ham and hashbrowns and she enjoyed her meal. Service was good, but it did take awhile for the food to come out. That may be due to the fact that we were there right when they opened along with 5-7 other tables so it could have been that everyone ordered at the same time. The inside was spacious, with lots of natural light, and nice and clean. There is a covered patio on the side of the restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would go back.

Found this little place for a late breakfast after a walk through the rail yards with a friend. I ordered a grilled cheese with apricot chutney with no onions. Unfortunately the chutney had onions and I had to send it back. They were very kind about. Had just a grilled cheese on sourdough. It was good. I'll come back and try something different. It's super cute, loved the colors and the staff was super friendly. They have the shew fly fans which I appreciate. Nice indoor and outdoor seating.

Outstanding customer service, great environment and overall good experience however, the food was just okay for me. I had an omelette and it was good, don't get me wrong. It was just nothing to brag about or to make me want to come back and try something new on the menu. I don't like being super critical if I haven't tried at least three things on the menu so I'm not saying it's bad by any means, I just didn't have anything that was outstanding or exceptional with the meal, I still gave four stars for the incredible staff and overall dining experience.

$15 zucchini black bean burger with fries

What, a carnivore eating a zucchini-black bean burger!? Wife and I rarely needed much of a lunch after the AYCE breakfast buffets at the Hilton downtown Albuquerque. Came here after getting up at 4am for the Balloon Fiesta. Located in a residential area, just beyond blocks of law offices in downtown Albuquerque. Would not have found it unless looking for it. Large cathedral ceilings, two level restaurant, which included a loft. Bright, with large windows, airy and clean. My $15 veggie burger patty was made of zucchini and black beans. Flavor came with spread of cheddar, delicious corn relish, avocado, and green chile mayo. Had to eat it with a fork and knife, as the patty fell apart in my hands, a common drawback of veggie burgers. Tasty enough to satisfy a carnivore. French fries on the side, which would have tasted better unsalted, but firm and on the thin side, and flavorful. Wife had the $8 green chile stew with chicken and tortilla chip strips. Meal tasted just the way she fondly remembered after living 18 years in Santa Fe. Not often I write about burgers, let alone veggie burgers, probably the first this decade.

First time at the Slate Street cafe and unfortunately I was not impressed. The place is nice, big, and cozy. The service was quite friendly, always with a smile and time to answer questions. I ordered the huevos rancheros. My partner ordered the Dutch oven pancake (not pictured). The pancake was dense, thick, and perfectly sweet. No complaints. However, the huevos rancheros were a big let down. Even though the green and red were fine, the rest of the dish fell flat with thin, soggy, flavorless corn tortillas and very simple hash browns. Overall, I'd say that the sweets may be better than the savory. Even though the ambiance and service are nice, the food did not convince me to return.

If you're looking for a brunch spot that offers the perfect blend of atmosphere, service, and incredible food, look no further....Slate Street is absolutely incredible! We grabbed brunch here last Saturday around noon and could not get over the immense flavor packed into every bite. Don't miss the banana bread as a starter...it's slightly grilled and paired with whipped butter, simply divine!

Potentially... you might want to call and see if that's a possibility!

Someone please tell me if this place still has their amazing bruschetta? I don't see it on their menu any longer and they were my absolute favorite!

Hidden Gem in Nobhill Albuquerque…read more I recently visited the restaurant at Mission Winery and had a great experience from start to finish. To start, I ordered the sangria and the crab & artichoke dip. The sangria was on the sweeter side but not overwhelmingly so, making it easy to enjoy with the appetizer. The dip was delicious, creamy, and packed with flavor, although I honestly couldn't taste much artichoke. It was still a great starter, especially paired with the bread. For dinner, I ordered the red chile fried chicken bites with fries. The chicken was the standout of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and coated in a delicious red chile sauce that had just the right amount of kick. The fries were perfectly cooked and paired well with the ketchup. My friend shared the appetizer with me and ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad, which she enjoyed alongside one of the wine tasting flights. The real surprise of the evening came after dinner. Our host handed us a card with a password to access the speakeasy downstairs. If you visit Mission Winery, don't skip this part. The speakeasy had a completely different atmosphere from the restaurant above and quickly became the highlight of the night. The space feels intimate, sophisticated, and thoughtfully designed, with dark wood accents, comfortable seating, and a stylish lounge vibe. My friend and I both ordered espresso martinis, and they were fantastic. The presentation alone was impressive--the unique glassware was chilled and helped keep the cocktail cold longer, allowing us to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. Between the excellent food, wine, creative cocktails, and the hidden speakeasy experience, Mission Winery offers much more than just a typical dinner out. The restaurant was great, but the speakeasy downstairs is what will have me coming back. Recommendation: Start with dinner upstairs, then ask about the speakeasy password and finish your evening downstairs with an espresso martini. It's one of the coolest date night or girls' night experiences I've found in Albuquerque.

The vibe of the whole place, the patio, the wine selection, the seating, all gives off class and high end dining. They nailed the atmosphere, and maintained the old fountain outside! The wine is always lovely. Was surprised by what we liked best and really enjoyed the tasting. The food remains the weak link at DH Lescombes. It's very salty, and (given Albuquerque's incredible farm to table selection) falls short on feeling exceptional. It's processed food that feels like high-end Chili's fare. The experience was still a good one. Would most certainly recommend the patio and wine.

The wine list is well selected and offers some nice little discoveries. The food is hit and miss. -Pigs' ears were incredible, fried mushrooms were not (heavy on the breading and mushrooms were impossible to taste). -The multitude of pickles are fun but sometimes overwhelm the palate and risk becoming a schtick. -The chicken liver pâté (actually a parfait) was good flavor-wise but wasn't emulsified properly (grainy) and was served too cold (and therefore hard) rather than at room temperature where it would be rich and creamy. -While I understand that it's easier to manage, I'd have liked to see some fresh bread as an alternative to the croutons. The salumi were likewise hit-and-miss. -The bresaola (a hard one to hit on) was overly salty, a little too dried, and should have been cut paper thin on the slicer rather than thickish slices offered. -The salami was very good -The fries had excellent flavor but it would be nice to see them achieve better crisp (thrice-fried) and little less salt (something that comes up a little often throughout). Having said all this, the chef is having fun in the kitchen, experimenting, and coming up with some ingenious items and combinations. So I'd like to see more consistency but there was enough to choose from that I will definitely go back.

It was delicious, interesting. We were after a light bite and I had the chicken liver pate, a nice cube of it with lots of bread and a scattering of pickled vegetables-nice contrast! I had the roasted butternut squash also, a generous serving, with a very crunchy skin. Once I figured out I could break the skin by folding it with my fork after making a crease in it with my knife I ate every bit of it, the creamy flesh and the crisp peel and the greens that came with it. Husband had the smoked tinned oysters that I thoroughly enjoyed on his behalf because he wasn't wild about it. He admitted he is partial to fresh oysters and so no other preparation was going to match that preference. His loss, my gain. We finished off the meal sharing the chocolate bark and we lingered over our drinks, chatted with the waiter and the chef and left feeling happy with the adventure. It's pricey so be forewarned. I found the uniqueness of the flavors, the attention paid by the chef and the drinkologist to flavor, balance, presentation and the civilized atmosphere to be worthy of the cost.
