When we discovered Level 5 was a short walk from our hotel, the universe was clearly on our side. So we did what any reasonable people do on a warm, clear February night in Albuquerque, we dressed up and walked ourselves straight into a perfect evening. First: that view. Five floors up, city lights stretching out, not a cloud in the sky. The cocktails set the tone immediately. I ordered the Macaw -- unusual but very delicious in the most delighted way possible. My husband's specialty cocktail held its own right alongside it. I made it my mission to eat as locally as possible and Level 5 delivered completely. The Mole Poblano was extraordinary. My husband's duck dinner had him going moaning and groaning in pleasure. Our waitress was warm and wonderful, and finding out she had Pacific Northwest roots made us feel right at home from about 1,500 miles away. We chose this restaurant to celebrate our 41st anniversary and ordered the three-course meal. The food itself was very good, which makes this even more frustrating. At the end of the meal, we were shocked to see a $44 automatic gratuity added to our bill, for just two people. This was never mentioned by our server. As visitors, we had no idea this was part of "restaurant week," and no one disclosed it when we ordered. That lack of transparency felt deceptive. Service did not justify that kind of tip. We had very little attention from our waitstaff, long stretches without check-ins and minimal engagement. Meanwhile, the table right next to us received constant attention from both the manager and staff. The manager was explaining dishes and making sure they were taken care of, while we were largely ignored. The difference in treatment was obvious. When we questioned the charge, the manager's response was dismissive: "it's on the website." That's not acceptable. If you're adding a mandatory gratuity of that size, it should be clearly communicated at the table--especially to out-of-town guests. We were happy with the food and pricing, but adding a surprise $44 tip without telling us ruined what should have been a special anniversary dinner. We left feeling misled and undervalued. After watching the show Plumbeous we realized we knew where this bar was, so we made a point visit it next time we were in Albuquerque. Up the elevator we went to get to this beautiful rooftop bar and restaurant. We had already eaten so we just sat at the bar for drinks. they have everything you might want, with fun signature drinks and a good wine list. The ambiance is classy, and bartenders friendly. After a bit we walked outside to see where the show's scene was filmed, and even with the cold weather decided to stay there a while to enjoy the fresh air and view around the fire pit they had. We got there at about six, so we were there for three hours. More than half of it was spent waiting. Dreadful. Across the board. Hostess "crew" attempted to turn us away because we had no reservation. 5:15pm on a Thursday night. Dozens of tables ( inside and out) were empty. We went in and sat at the bar. Took over an hour and a half to get food. Still no tables being occupied. Menu is a joke. Extremely limited and enormously overpriced. Tables that did have diners were finally served and then allowed to linger an hour or more after their plates had been cleared. Manager was a joke. Pontificating all night with one table while the kitchen was clearly struggling. He never once entered the kitchen. When our food arrived it was so over salted that it was inedible. Focaccia bread ( $12.00 "side") was coated in a rind of sea salt. Each entree, pasta, pork chop, filet was oversalted to the point of disbelief. Who is cooking this food or even tasting it? They never filled even 1/2 of the restaurant capacity or maintained any semblance of a well managed or sophisticated dining experience, which they truly think they are doing. At 7:30 the hostess crew departed. As a note, we were traveling to this city as one night in a cross country trip to our summer home. We booked two rooms and were told at check in that the lobby bar and casual restaurant were closed because the bartender had called in sick. If you're looking for an elevated experience in Albuquerque, this is well worth the visit. The weather was perfect for a dinner outside on the rooftop. The New Mexico sky was making magic for us. We started with some bruschetta which was okay. My husband had the half chicken and I had the Tamale. Both were delicious. Complex and flavorful. We rounded out the meal with dessert. Everything had great flavor and was unforgettable. Service was great and the atmosphere was even better. Highly recommend for a night out. read more

You can sit around. If you go at the right time of the evening, you can see the "watermelon sunset" on the side of the mountain. I had heard that level 5 had gotten a new chef, so I was willing to give it a try again. I am so glad I did. We ended up sitting outside where they had some very nice heaters set up so even though the weather was a bit chilly we were plenty warm and able to enjoy the views. I had an espresso martini which was just right and the ravioli, which at the time was a goat cheese ravioli. We also had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The food was amazing and the prices were not absurd. The ravioli was a good sized portion and very flavorful and the pasta was done just right. The toffee pudding melted in your mouth. My friend had food allergies and our server was very accommodating and made sure to double check that various items were safe. They came by to check on us frequently but not enough that it was intrusive. Goran, their new executive chef was greeting diners and was also very friendly. Oh did I mention they also had blankets outside in case you got chilly? Anyway, a much much improved experience from my ones from a few years back. I came here solo for brunch in a Sunday in September (2024), and apparently they just opened for brunch. I was the only one sitting on the outside roof area for a while, and I really enjoyed that (all of Albuquerque didn't know they have brunch yet, I guess!). My server was new & totally attentive & upfront about what she did and didn't know (which I loved the honesty). She had a great personality and I really enjoyed her. My avocado toast was okay- the bread was super thick & a little harder/dryer than I like for my avocado toast, but not the worst. Level 5 is located on the rooftop of the beautiful Hotel Chaco. I loved the decor of the hotel that I took a look around before heading upstairs to the restaurant. Once on upstairs there is an option to dine inside or out but you definitely want to sit outside for the views. I went on a perfect night; it wasn't windy and the temperature was perfect. Unfortunately I had to ask for service after waiting for 15-20 minutes. The manager apologized and stated that he had new staff and offered me an appetizer on the house. I was in town for a work trip and found Level 5 Rooftop and it did NOT disappoint. It is located inside Hotel Chaco which is a beautiful hotel and really give me resort vibes. Sat at the bar and I do want to brag about Josh. He was AMAZING!!!! Josh was so helpful and patient. He was very kind and just AMAZING!! The other bartender Jimmy was supportive and funny. Noah, the receptionist at the hotel was EVERYTHING and more. He was charming and I felt the warmth with him and Sam. Okay.. the food was pretty good. The Lobster Bao Bun was CHEF'S KISS. AMAZING. It is 2 deconstructed buns that you put together and just perfection. Fried Artichoke Hearts was plentiful and crispy and yummy. However... the Buffalo Short Rib Egg Rolls was NOT for ME. It was a huge egg rolls, very plentiful and it came with garlic noodles. It was a concept but I did not like the sauce. It was bitter and I did not like that. Something threw me off. The view of Albuquerque was just so pretty. It is a pretty location. You are overseeing the city lights. They have fire pits. An amazing outdoor seating area. This is a great place to be. I've always heard about Level 5 and finally had time to check the place out. I love that it's a great place in Old Town (on the rooftop of Hotel Chaco) that gives you a a great view of all of ABQ! On top of that, they also serve sort of what you'd call fancy food...the price range that isn't normally what locals would expect to pay when dining out locally. That said, the food was great and the cocktails were strong. It's the experience I probably wouldn't get to do as often but I did enjoy the meal. That said, minus one star as I think service could be a little better/more refined to reflect their price point. And...the place is small...so if you don't have a reservation, there's a high chance you won't get a table there! read more

We came for valentines day. The food here was fantastic! We discovered this place because we follow the famous chef that cooks here now on social media and we noticed this is his new restaurant. The lobster linguini was Devine. It was creamy, delicious, not too thick or watery, we loved it. I would say it was a tie for our favorite dishes between this and the goat cheese crusted chile relleno. The streak on the surf and turf was so soft and flavorful, it melted in your mouth, the prawn; we wish there was more than one and it was peeled but it's okay because the steak was so good it made up for that. The sandía sunset drink was really good, we had 4. I loved the bacon risotto, it left me wanting to scrape the plate. The potato medallions were also really good. I dipped them in some of the sauce that was left over from the surf and turf. Soooo good. Chef Marc quinones was actually on Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay, made it to top 3, this man has even cooked for presidents, on Google you can find pictures of him with president Biden. I'm surprised level 5 doesn't try to advertise that. He's the only world renowned chef in our little city of Albuquerque. Maybe more people would come, they seemed pretty slow for it being a holiday. Also little tip in case the owner reads this: please make the heat lamps outside not so tall. We really wanted to sit outside but the heat lamps were so tall that the heat wasn't coming down to the table much, so we just sat inside and missed some of the awesome views we could have enjoyed on the rooftop. read more

UPDATE: I returned this past Saturday for brunch. Had one of Josh's specialty drinks and their Pork and Beans. I sure love beans. And this meal was flavorful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Cleaned my plate. I touting would get the same meal when I returned but it was a different time of the day. But hey it's good to be adventurous and try new things. Where do I begin...it's not often where I rave this much about a location. This by far exceeded my expectations, not that I had any of course. I had gone to a networking event that didn't happen in their sister hotel at the Qbar...that will be a different review. I went to explore the hotel, beautiful people and decor. The counter staff were awesome! "Go to the 5th level, take a took at the views, maybe get a bite to eat" The top level (LVL 5) had an amazing view all around the city. Plenty of outdoor seating and some down below. This must be fantastic in warmer months. I sat at the bar, ordered an espresso martini (you'll notice I order these whenever available) I asked (Josh) for a suggestion between the calabacitas and the Caesar salad. He suggested if I was a little hungry the salad would be the better option. It was huge! Picture worthy for certain. The presentation and the flavors were outstanding. Charred romaine, I never thought of that. That salad was 110% fabulous, I cleared that entire plate!!! Everyone was so personable, service was phenomenal. "Would you like dessert?" They provided recommendations but I went with crème brûlée. It was horchata flavored (it reminded me of natillas) I promise you, there are not enough wonderful words to describe everything I thoroughly enjoyed eating this evening. Josh and Jimmy brought out the Executive Chef to speak with me. That's never happened...ever! I was sure to compliment him on his outstanding skills in everything I had. He handed me his business card and welcomed me to return anytime. I can tell you with 100% certainly, that I will return and likely order the exact same thing, oh and that special drink that Josh made topped with red wine. This is the place to go to have great drinks with a terrific view. Level 5 Rooftop restaurant and bar is located on the roof of Hotel ChoCo. The moment you step of the elevator you are welcomed by a nice host. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Either place is perfect as the indoor has walls of glass. The background here is the mountains which is the perfect backdrop for pictures. They have tables, chairs, lounges, and heaters. I highly recommend this place. Hotel Chaco is a beautiful boutique hotel, and Level 5 matches the energy with a breathtaking view, well-appointed space, and a personable, creative Chef! We were lucky enough to meet Chef Marc Quinones as he walked around the early birds checking out the Balloon Fiesta ascension this morning! We typically split food, and today we went with the Buffalo short ribs and a side of grits. The Buffalo short ribs were seriously some of the best meat I've ever put in my mouth! So tender, juicy, and flavorful... I literally licked the gravy from every surface! The grits were a larger, course ground from South Carolina and were perfectly seasoned for this southern girl. I'd LOVE to see some green chili cheese grits on this menu - I'm so intrigued I may have to go home and figure that out! Call out to all the staff - Albuquerque seriously has some do the best service we've encountered on our travels, and Level 5 brought a super friendly and accommodating vibe. But unfortunately, the experience post visit has been filled with frustration and lack of communication from the restaurant manager. I made a reservation For three while I was visiting Albuquerque for a work trip. The food and drinks were good. In order to get reimbursed for my meal from work I need a receipt. I misplaced my receipt. Yes, that was on me. But for a restaurant that claims to be posh and exclusive, their lack of customer service was extremely disappointing. I called multiple times, left multiple messages, and no manager would send me a picture of my receipt. I just asked for them to simply text me a picture, but they refused to do so. I will never visit this establishment again, and I would urge others traveling on business to do the same. read more

Really unhappy today about level five restaurant. I made reservations weeks ago for Christmas Eve dinner. There was no mention of a special menu. I am a vegetarian so we wanted to order the tamales that are on the regular menu today. Two hours before our reservation someone called to confirm our reservation and I asked to make sure they have the tamales. They told me that no, they have a special Christmas Eve menu. There is only one vegetarian option on the menu which is a mushroom stew and for that they are charging $145, the same as if you wanted an entire suckling pig or if you wanted a piece of Wagyu beef. Ridiculous. So we canceled. Next time price your menu appropriately and get someone with manners to call to confirm reservations not the unfortunate jerk that I had to talk to. read more

Amazing views on this gorgeous rooftop with a perfect view of the mountains and the city! We only stopped for drinks and I ordered the botanist and my partner got the sundagger. They were definitely way over priced, but you're paying for the experience I guess. They also changed the botanist, it didn't use to be this color but it tasted good. The food menu prices are definitely much higher than before and I'm sure it's effecting their clientele. The new chef looks fun, hoping to spend a special day there this year. I was excited to try the carne asada elk covered with chile, but it was lacking some flavor, and the elk was very tough. Maybe we got a bad cut, but for the price, but you would think we would have one of the most tender parts. The elk had tendon or veins, which made it hard to chew, and there was not a lot of meat on the plate. The mix drinks are expensive, but I guess you pay for the location and service. read more
