This is a wonderful establishment, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there! John and David are great wonderful people and the experience of getting acquainted with the horses and then going to the vineyard to have a good laugh till dark felt like a lovely dream. Me and my husband had a great time there, although I had a bit of problem with trying to get my horse to listen to me, but at the end of the day, I learnt new stuff about horses, that I should be more firm to control the horse! After that, the owner introduced us to a winery/vineyard which made their own wines. We followed him by car over there, as did other participants who wanted to go, and we had a blast talking and sampling wines and finding out about the local wine business. Very relaxed and friendly feel. I think the owner's name is David, and he got a great horse handler, John, who supposedly rode all the way to Florida on horseback. Woo! Go there to hear more interesting stories! Absolutely felt like a land far removed from the city. Absolutely out of my expectations. As an update to my previous post. I contacted groupon and they refunded me the amount I paid for the groupon BUT of course I paid for more meat than the groupon, $55 to be exact. I contacted SSR about getting my refund and of course there was no response and as always NOBODY EVER PICKS UP THE PHONE! David is very nice greeting us when we arrive. John is very helpful for taking us to the trail also teaching my 6 years old daughter how to control the horse. We spent about 2 hours on the horses. At evening, David and Belinda took us to the wine test and we purchased some good wine and make more friends. Overall, we enjoyed the whole afternoon. THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I ordered a Groupon from this company on 4/14/13 and submitted my order the following day. I followed up with emails and received responses that I would be receiving a response within 2-3 weeks. I followed up on 5/16/13 and received what looked like an automated response that read: "Hi! I'm so sorry and apologize that this process is taking so long. We are a working ranch and have 400 orders shipping out Monday-Wednesday of this week and next and our office will be calling you to pay any additional shipping charges and give you a delivery date. Please bear with us a bit longer. We are picking up fresh meat from the processor 2 times a week. I want you to have the freshest product available. " After receiving no call/response I again contacted the Sleepy Sheep Ranch on 6/19/13 and was told to contact David. I called the Sleepy Sheep Ranch twice on 6/19/13 and only received an message saying that they were backed up on orders, but they would be caught up by the end of the week. After receiving no contact, on 7/2/13 I emailed David and still have received no contact as of today (7/10/13). Finally, I contacted Groupon on 7/9/2013 demanding a refund for my $99 purchase and received a reply stating that they contacted David and was told to contact him again! It has been 12 weeks waiting for this company to fulfill my order that was advertised to take 2-3 weeks. BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!! read more

We had an amazing time on our trail ride! The food was surprisingly delicious and the wine was average, but flowed freely and often! If you have had a bit of riding experience, they will pair you with a great horse and let you play a bit. If you're a newbie they will find a tamer horse for you. They let you practice first so if you are a first timer, it's a great place to start! They have a variety of trails, but I really liked the ones we took. Stunning prairies, woods and scenic views. Our leader was a legit country born and bred cowboy which gave the experience true authenticity. The place was kind of difficult to find and scheduling was a legit nightmare. That said, it was all worth it and I gave this place 5 stars anyway. The horses are well cared for and the staff is knowledgable. They truly care for these animals and the experience of their guests. If you are a first time rider I suggest you take as little as possible on the ride with you. Things fall out of pockets while riding and no one wants a broken phone, camera, whatever. I lost my sunglasses on the ride (our cowboy offered to retrieve them but I didn't want to hold up the group) so just be sure you don't take anything you aren't willing to lose. Bring cash for a tip (it's how the cowboys make their $$$!!!) and after the experience you've had, you will want to be generous! Beware the only facilities are a well kept and clean porta potty. If this freaks you out, stop at a gas station before you go and limit wine consumption! Definitely go during pleasant weather, bring bug spray, and enjoy your ride! PS there is also a winery nearby that the staff will be happy to refer you to afterwards. The wines are sweet (not my taste) and mediocre even by Texas standards, but it was a great way to end our day. The owner was nice and it was a fun experience! I went to Sleep Sheep Ranch with some coworkers for a girls day / trail ride and we had a blast! I am a vegetarian and the staff was accommodating for the meal :) The horses were well trained, we were able to get most of them up to a gallop, and it was cool seeing the old graveyard / catfish pond. Will definitely be back and will probably visit the nearby winery on that trip :) read more

I have been out to David's 3 times and enjoyed each. He is very courteous and entertaining. A few weeks ago my friend and I went riding and it was a bit chilly. David provided me with a pair of buffalo hide chinks to try out. They kept me toasty warm. The trail rides aren't the typical nose to tail bumbling along ride. There are chances to trot and canter. Each time I have been, the attendees were given 10 minutes to do what they want. John has even provided his own horse to more advanced riders so they can really have a ride. This place was great! I have been riding for most of my life and I never miss an opportunity for a western trail ride. This was by far the best experience that I have ever had on a trail ride. Dave was great and all of the guides are personable and knowledgeable. The horses were well behaved and took direction without too much hesitation. The land is beautiful and the lake with te catfish was a perfect stopping point. I even got to jump and run my horse, something that I'm the eastern states never happens. If your gps tells you that have pasted it and the house numbers are in the 10,000's, keep going a little further until you reach the bend in the road. It doesn't make sense, but it worth a little searching. There is no sign out front but then, who marks where they hide their treasure? You will not be disappointed. If you are within 2 hours of this place, it is worth the trip. All I can say is go and go hungry. Spring for the meal trail ride. You will never have an experience like it again! read more

well its a long story, we got there not really knowing what to expect.. there is no reservation system and they had no clue we were there on teh list for the 12 o clock or how we paid them even when we paid them direct on their website. Of course no receipt was ever provided.There was one porta potty for a loo at the starting point where you could see everything floating. No steps to mount or dismount the horse. We were told that we had to pay 20$ per person tip. The ride was ok, the lunch was horrible.. yes there was were 2 4$ wine bottles. Brisket was all fat and good pieces were being eaten by the lady who was cooking as as she was cooking it. The was no bathroom at that place so men were peeing all over and ladies had to wait to get back . The seating was ok at the lunch place around a small pond with black water..ride back from lunch was also ok. the horses just follow each other. David makes sure that trained riders get those horse that can go wild..the whole experience can be much better.. right now there is nothing there that one would want to go back read more

I have sent several e-mails, called 30 times to a phone number that is either busy or has a stupid message difficult to understand and that doesn't allow you to leave any message. I just check Internet to see if this company is serious or I'm just having bad luck.....well, it seems there are hundreds of us and indeed thi is an SCAM through Groupon. That makes me think that Groupon doesn't check and doesn't care at all what kind of companies they are suporting. The issue of MISTREATING ANIMALS reported by several people here is pretty serious. I purchased a Groupon for lamb meat and when I called them to order they stated it would take 2 to 3 weeks to ship and they would call me when ready to get my credit card info to pay for the balance beyond that which was covered by my Groupon. So when four weeks rolled around and I had not heard from them I called them during business hours. They didn't answer and their voice mailbox was full. Hmmm not a good sign. So I contacted Groupon and they gave me an email address that was the best one to contact the company. I emailed them to ask about the status of my order and they never replied. I then researched this company and discovered they have an F rating with the better business bureau. I was also upset to see a Yelp review indicating this company doesn't take proper safety precaustions when shipping meat. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Sleepy Sheep Ranch is a nightmare! I purchased my Groupon and redeemed it on June 6. I ordered 5 lbs. of lamb kabobs for $75 and received my discount which resulted in a balance of $38.95 that was charged to my PayPal account. I did not receive my order and sent an e-mail to Sleepy Sheep Ranch customer service on July 5 . I received a reply to contact "David" directly at the ranch and sent a e-mail to him. No response. I sent another e-mail to David on July 9; no response. I tried sending another e-mail to the customer service address on August 20 and received an undeliverable address notification . I then tried posting on their Facebook page; no response. I would like my Groupon refunded and strongly suggest you do not use this company in the future. I have had at least three disappointing experiences with trouble redeeming Groupons/unsatisfactory experiences, and I am strongly considering not using the service. Now 2 months later I have not received any responses from them. Initially they responded with auto-responder and now are no longer responding emails or phone calls. They cancelled our trail ride "due to a personal emergency with the owner" 15 minutes before we were supposed to be there. We had ~ 1 hour drive, so we were almost there. Very, very disappointed. Ride was scheduled months in advance, and when I called today to reschedule, as instructed, she tried to schedule me for the week of Christmas! Ridiculous! They said they'd honor the coupon, which I've been trying to use for a long time, so I will call back when we don't have to ride in freezing cold temperatures for the spring. I tried to get Groupon to work with a Better Business Bureau about the lack of service, i.e., an order from 9/12 has yet to be processed. It's voicemail is always filled, etc. Groupon only gave me a credit on what I had ordered and does not deal with the businesses it promotes. That's a negative for Groupon as well as for that of Sleepy Sheep Ranch. It appears this operation is also a dude ranch, which may be offering a service that is not reprehensible.
