Very pleasant staff clean restaurant. The fried fish and chicken reminded me of my mom's it was very comforting and delicious seasoned excellently and fried very crispy while still being very juicy. I tried Sleepy's on a whim the other day when I was craving a good sandwich, and I have absolutely no regrets! I got the fried shrimp po boy and potato salad and it was all *chef's kiss.* The po boy came out with a good amount of shrimp and was a big enough size to share. The potato salad has a little bit of a mustard taste to it, but I'd recommend giving it a try even if you don't normally love mustard as it was pretty tasty! It was creamy and had just the right amount of potato chunks and tang. Parking was easy to find as the restaurant is located in a big plaza. If you go later in the evening, you might have to wait a while for your food as everything appears to be fried fresh, so call ahead if you want to speed things up. read more

In 2013, I wrote a 3 star review here for 2 dinner visits. Recently, I have returned twice again since I was in the area for an update. First of all, I was impressed when walking inside as the interior is much improved from 2013. Back then, it was a real hole in the wall restaurant really only suitable for to go orders. Now, they have real tables and booths along with interior decorations that make a dine in experience much more enjoyable. Good job! Sleepy's is still a counter service restaurant but the counter has been upgraded too. I ordered a shrimp po boy and made it a combo with fries and a drink for around $13 with tax. The food came out in about 10 minutes in a styrofoam container. The po boy was split in two sections and was dressed. It had plenty of fried shrimp and I really enjoyed it. The remoulade/Mayo sauce they use is smooth tasting and added to the sandwich. The fries were the standard frozen out of a bag kind but they were hot and seasoned. I gave this meal a 4. About a week later I returned to try a large seafood gumbo for $11.25. Again this meal was ready in about 10 minutes and came out in a large and tall styrofoam container. This meal was a problem. First of all the container was fine if you take it home to transfer it to another bowl but for eating it in the restaurant it was very awkward. The container is too tall and with the small plastic spoon given difficult to spoon it out. Second, this "seafood" gumbo contains far more beef and sausage than seafood. Mine had some crab pieces and a few small shrimp with the roux and rice along with the red meat. This disappointed me and besides that the flavor was just average. Considering all of these factors I gave this meal a 2 and wouldn't order it again even if I was talking it home. Put it in a better container for those dining in and add more seafood Sleepy! For these two visits I still rate this place as a 3 and would return for that shrimp po boy just like last time. At least the interior is much improved. read more

It's very difficult to park close to the restaurant at night bc of the night club. The parking lot attendant is very rude and curse two other ladies as the walked into Sleepy's (this is because there were not allowed to park at Sleepy's ,everyone was forced to park at Slim Chicken's next door) I understand controlling the club flow but it's to the detriment of this business. The food is good but I'm not sure if it worth the hassle. Also my toast was black by comparison to my husband. Now this might be splitting hair but, when it's such a hassle to get to the business it can make one become very critical. read more

The food was worth the wait! I flew in for a few days with my friends to hang out and decided to grab a bite. I'm not going to lie; when I first stepped in, I saw a long line of people waiting for their food but decided to wait. Within 10 minutes, all of those people were out of there, and my order came out about 25-30 minutes later. The food was cooked with so much flavor that I wanted to return the next day. I did the fish and chips with shrimp, jambalaya, and Mac & cheese with toast. The bathrooms were clean, and the staff were so friendly and right on with their recommendations. As well as accommodating the food I could not have due to my diverticulitis. Prices were not too bad with the inflation in the market today. So, I decided to give Sleepy's a second visit, mainly because I found a Groupon which was a bargain; in fact, I purchased two Groupons (wish I had not done this). Well, still not my cup of tea. This time I purchased the seafood platter and fried wings. Again, the seasoning is just too salty for me. Maybe this is expected of Louisiana food...overly salty food is not good for anyone. After getting past the saltiness, the fish. I don't remember my first visit having the fish having a soft, almost mushy texture like this time. I tried to eat, but I just couldn't... had to trash. Not sure what kind of fish this was... but no... just could not do it! The shrimp was, tough, rubbery, and was translucent in color instead of being white... not sure what kind of shrimp this is. The only thing that I could salvage were the chicken wings. I know some people like huge wings, but not my preference. I had to put in oven as they needed a little more time to get completely done. Chicken was salty too, but not as bad as the seafood. I am so mad at myself for purchasing two Groupons for Sleepy's... thought second time here would be better than first since so many positive reviews , but NO! Now I have to see if I can try to sell other Groupon voucher to someone who likes Sleepy's; or hopefully try something that I will like; but I feel everything here will be salty; or buy $30 worth of desserts. read more

At least the pork chops or wings weren't dried out from being over fried. That Yakamein had absolutely no flavor. Craving a solid po-boy? This is a great option. I was impressed by the size of the po-boys. I had the crawfish and my dad had the shrimp, nothing we hadn't tasted before but good none the less. Now, if you want to get lunch, you really need to call in advance because they had a huge lunch rush. I ordered in store and was told it would take about 20minutes, but it actually took about 50min. I don't Sleepy's with complete strangers. Who does? What do you mean, you know I do? Who told you that? Anyway, instead of Sleepying with you on the first date, I'll bring you here, for sandwiches. Good compromise? I actually think it's overrated, overpriced, and disappointing. Sorry. I like the gumbo here. It's tasty even if it doesn't have a whole lot of seafood in it. It's expensive, too, and Barbie isn't crazy about it, but me? I'd get it again and again. If all they sold was Gumbo, I might give them a 5. I also like that they're open late and I think the decor is pretty cute. However that's where my affinity with Sleepy's ends. I can't believe the prices they are charging for sandwiches! Especially in the hood! People are poor in the hood! How can they justify it?! So much more expensive than the New Orleans equivalents, and inferior, too. The roast beef is beyond disappointing. We're talking about chemical-ridden grocery store deli beef that really tastes like it was just grabbed off of the shelves at Kroger. A big disappointment because I was looking forward to a delicious juicy roast beef - there's just not much effort put into it. However the price reflects it there should be. Grr. I'm not a big fan of the shrimp either which is pretty basic. I guess you expect that though so it's a little better than the beef. Barbie enjoyed the shrimp, but not a ton. However she has a ton of guys that she Sleepy's with, without even ever having met them before. The sausage is particularly disappointing. It's really just spicy breakfast sausage. I was hoping for some New Orleans Andoulle or something delicious but I have nothing against basic entry level Meats being put on sandwiches, honesgtly. And I can even grow to love that - but if that's going to happen then you better be charging me $2 and $3 and not 10 or $12. If the prices and portions are ever in congruence with what they should be, I'll raise it to 4. If the Beef and Sausage ever make it to even half the level of New Orleans, I'll even give them 5. The Gumbo, until then, will be their only saving Grace. I bet nobody wants to Sleepy with me anymore after reading this. read more
