We waited for the opening excitement to wane before we visited to avoid the long wait times . Whole pies were taking 30+ minutes before ready. Many whole pies for take out were sold while we're eating. Our slice wait was about ten minutes. Various slices are sitting on shelves waiting to be reheated when ordered. Pepperoni cups were filled with grease. The grandma sauce is sweet and overpowering the other toppings. The thick crust slice needed a better ratio of toppings to crust. Ambiance was busy, and a family of five walked away due to lack of seating while tables had only one or two people at each. "Respect the Craft" is the motto, but it must be for the dough tossing, not yet perfected for the finished product. This may come across as brutal, but it's a respectable opinion. read more

We had the detroit style pizza, a caesar salad and a side of meatballs. The pizza was alright, I just wasn't blown away by it. I've never had detroit style before so I didn't know what to expect. My slice was really good. Generous toppings. Crust is thin, New York style, little crisp then chewy but not undercooked. Let my 4 yr old try a bite without pepperoni and his eating was an enthusiastic fist pump. Worth checking out and a great addition to the overall vibe they're going for at the location. The Detroit pizza we ordered has definitely been better. The big problem was the pizza was ordered online at 4:45 and supposed to be ready at 5:30. I'd love to give the food a rating, but unfortunately I was unable to get pizza on my last two visits so I can only rate the service. I was actually visiting the Castro Valley marketplace last Thursday for the first time because I had come across it during an Internet search . The restaurant had not opened yet. They explained that they opened at 11am, and although it was around 10:55am, and they were just standing around talking, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and quietly walked over to get some delicious baked bread from another shop in the marketplace. Today I had a renewed appetite for a wonderful slice of pizza, so this time I showed up around 11:05am. There was a lady being helped in front of me so I stood in line. The cashier finished ringing up the lady and asked her to have a seat, as she walked another customer's pizza to their table. When she came back instead of helping me, she took a phone call, understandable, until 10 minutes later, I was still standing there in front of her as she answered questions about time and location. As she continued to talk on the phone, the other customer became agitated and looked at me, her pizza was just sitting there on the oven tray, and had not yet been pushed into the oven to warm. I asked the customer if that was her pizza. She nodded yes and rolled her eyes.When the cashier heard me ask the question, she pushed the pizza into the oven. Meanwhile, as she continued to talk on the phone, the line was growing longer behind me. She finally hanged up the phone. (no phone order was taken). I said "never mind", because by now my lunch is half over. She said ok nonchalantly. I returned to ask for a business card with a phone number to the restaurant on it. She said. " sadly we don't have any." She did look around to find a menu for me. The best pizza you can get in Castro Valley. I used to go Pyzanos a lot as a kid - it's where we would go when we wanted to get "the good pizza" in town, but Slice House is even better. It's great to have Tony back. Went to the opening today and we tried a lot of the pies they had in the slice case - motorhead (Detroit style but the rest were thin crust), wise guy, traditional, pepperoni, cheese. I was expecting something like the old Pizanos Pizza in CV. I just tried the pizza so I can't comment on anything else that they offer. I had an eye opening experience last week I ordered a Buccatini and 2 slices. I received slices in 2 plates but gotten the pasta in a to-go container. I asked the tall guy why he did that (I found out from the Belmont location if that pasta is ordered for take away, we would get a lot less than ordering to eat there) but this guy insisted and said it's all premade and it doesn't matter. I think he ate/took the portion I didn't get. Slice house/pizza rock have been my favorite joint for decades for their Detroit and Cal Italia plus the Buccatini. Since ppl needs to pay when ordering, I tipped 20% then regretted it. Since I live in Hayward I'll give this location another chance but if this happens again then it's worth going to Belmont. I was pretty excited that Slice House opened very close to my office. I ordered a slice of their Castro Valley special that was a pesto with slice with tomato and 2 kinds of cheese. Anyways the pizza was not bad but when I order a pizza slice with no meat that means no meat guys. As I'm eating I bite on a piece of bacon and it completely grossed me out because I don't ever eat any type of pork so to my religious beliefs. Tony You guys dropped the ball on this one. Pizza is very good but disappointing that most times they are low or out of slices. We have had to wait so often for along time for slices to be ready. Is there not enough employees to keep up with the demand or not enough pizza ovens to keep the slices flowing? I placed an order for delivery at the CV location & somehow it ended up charging me for takeout and the wrong order. I was extremely disappointments upon looking at my email order that it charged me for takeout, with tips which I thought was going to the "delivery" person since I had selected for delivery... come to find out I had to pick up the order & it was the wrong order. Had me login & all of that just to be the wrong order. I originally had 2 pizza in my cart then I added 2 more.. with meatballs, not sure if it was the website that didn't register or what not. I would suggest you look into your online order services, if you don't deliver at that location through the online portal then you should inform the guest to order thru a third party app for delivery instead. Love the pizza; have enjoyed Tony's pizza since Pyzano's. Came on opening night. Predictably crowded; long lines. I have been going to the San Leandro location since it opened, and there are some things I prefer over there. I don't like: Parmesan and pepper flakes in tinfoil packets. Salads served in takeout containers when eaten inside. Plastic utensils. Presently there is no outside eating area. In all those things, I prefer the San Leandro location. I expect that I will continue going there, in spite of a smaller dining area. This place is not cheap, and I can't stand the things above that serve to cheapen the overall experience. I'm really surprised that Tony lends his name to a wannabe Round Table. His other locations are done right, at least the ones I am familiar with. I wish you success, and I will try again when the crowds drop off, but if it stays the same, I'll be headed to San Leandro. read more

Went here on a Friday night. If you want a whole pie, expect a long wait (at least 45min-1hr), it is really busy. I recommend ordering online. We almost left, but they did have slices available, which was great, we got to try 4 different pizza flavors & styles. 1) Detroit style pizza Little Italy, this was different, dough is thick with crusty cheese edges and the sauce is on top of the toppings. Too thick for me, but it has great flavor. We also got 3 NY style pizza slices, my fave was the 1) burrata queen, this didn't have red sauce, it had pesto, mozzarella, so yummy! 2) NY Wiseguy, this was good, loved the ricotta on it. 3) bbq chicken ranch, this one was good too. We'll be back to try more! You can also call ahead to see what slices are available. The staff are nice, I just felt rushed to order because it was so busy. So I went to Slice House for the first time a couple weeks ago. $7 is pretty pricey for one slice, and it was just meh. They had a postcard that suggested downloading their app to get $5 off my next purchase (yay!) and a free slice on my birthday, which was coming up in ten days, so I downloaded the app and put in my birthdate. A week and a half later it was my birthday, so I decided to cash in on my free slice. I went there and they absolutely REFUSED to honor it! Although I showed them my birthday on the app, and obviously could have proved it with my driver's license, they insisted it was not possible to honor it because it "wasn't in the system." They could have just given me a free slice, or at least a coupon for a free slice in the future for my troubles, but no. I mean, I came there just for the free birthday slice. I asked for whomever was in charge, and three different employees came over. They all shrugged their shoulders, one literally, and walked away. They said there was nothing they could do, over and over, while a line formed behind me. Finally, I just had to pay $7 for another slice since I was starving at that point. To be fair, it was really good. They also told me the $5 discount did show up but there was a minimum order (I think $15?). I don't know because it does not say this anywhere in the app or on the postcard that led me to download the app. Talk about a bait and switch. If it is $15, that means even two slices would not *quite* make the cut. I remember when companies gave perks that made you feel happy about patronizing their business, not like you were being taken advantage of. A couple days later I got an email saying my birthday free slice is ready. Not sure why it took so long, but yeah, thanks for nothing. read more

Very limited seating, there were people with large pizza boxes at tables putting box on chairs, pulling pieces out on table to eat.
