My compliments to the chef for cooking some of the tastiest and freshest Indian dishes in the Central Valley. My recommendation would be the Lamb and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both Tikka Masala is cooked to perfection with just the right amount of cream, tomato sauce, and spices. The Lamb Biryani is full of flavor that it was off the taste charts! The Garlic Naan was perfectly cooked too, it wasn't overtly overpowering with garlic and butter like some of the other places. Lastly, my favorite snack and delight were their Sweet Lassi, Chai, and Mango ice cream. Guys, if you want simply good and affordable Indian food, just come here! read more

100% legit and awesome. Thick curries not that watered down nonsense. Medium is pretty spicy if you aren't acclimated fyi. Flavor is rich, spices are generous, it is what you are looking for if you're like me and used to bay area Indian cuisine. Order the raita to cool it down, it's excellent. We had butter chicken (aka chicken makhani), aloo gobi, muttar paneer, samosas and garlic naan. All of my favs that I usually order when trying a new Indian place. The chicken was super tender and straight out of the tandoor, the paneer was also quite tender and delicious. These can be issues elsewhere, along with curry depth and texture. Not so at Slice of India. I am probably still high from the spice but I think I've found my forever Clovis Indian restaurant. read more

For those who had never been to Slice of India, please read on; for those of you who had been to the restaurant, I think you can resonate on my experience. The first time me and my family dined in at Slice of India, frankly we were a little intimidated by the lady who tend to our table. She was stern and did not smile during our conversation, and we thought she was mad or in a bad mood. When the food arrive, we were surprised by how good everything tasted. The portions are big and we tried our best to finish as much as we can (since food was SO GOOD) but we had to take some home. We return again and again shortly after and we get more acquainted with the lady who serve us every time we visited. She is a very nice and kind person with a strong personality. She always provided prompt service and provided great recommendations as well. Interior of this place clean and well organized, and it was decorated similarly to a typical Indian restaurants. From our past experience, only suggestion I have is it'd be great if the wait time for food can be shortened. However, I know that all orders are made fresh and that's probably why it took some time for each order to be prepared. Overall, great food, clean interior, combined with prompt service, I'd recommend anyone to give Slice of India a try. read more

Food was a 4 service was a 2, so I am splitting the difference. Granted we came in on a Saturday evening, but there was only one other couple when we first arrived. Our order was taken reasonably quickly but then it took over an hour for our food to arrive. This is not an exaggeration. A large party who came in after us got their food about ten minutes before us and two people ended up leaving because no one had taken their order after waiting 10 minutes. So my advice is to stay away if the place is busy and there is only a single server. The tandoori chicken wings were a disappointment, slathered in a sweet sauce and not at all crispy. The rest of the dishes were great and on par with the better Indian places in town. The rice was very flavorful. So while I can't say I would seeks this place out again in the future, I also wouldn't reject it if someone else invited me here. read more

I'd like to update my review to five stars. The first time I tried their food was three years ago , since then they really perfected their craft and I was super impressed. The samosas are crunchy crispy on the outside and the potato filling inside is delicious with little bit of kick and curry flavor. My bf loved it and so did I. The sauce on both shrimp tikka masala and butter chicken are absolutely amazingly delicious, bursting with flavor from different spices and shrimp tasted really fresh and cooked perfectly and so were the chicken. Shrimp tikka masala is my absolute favorite. My bf's favorite is the butter chicken. Basmati rice and garlic naan are really great also. Fresh tasting and rice is fluffy, naan delicious. Food wasn't bad. Not the best I've had. Portions were ok. Price was as expected. HOWEVER, they clenched me never going back when they charged me $2 for sauces THAT CAME WITH MY MEAL when I asked to take them with my leftovers. His reasoning? "The sauces were complimentary, we don't allow them for take out". Mind you, we are talking about a tablespoon or two, not a jar!! And he didn't even tell me I would have to pay extra. Best Indian place ever I always go to. I Just pick up usually. My favorite dishes are usually butter chicken and lamb tikka masala cooked medium rare with a side of garlic naan. It comes with rice. Sometimes we get appetizers like samosas and their little herbal sauce and dark sweet sauce. read more

This has become my favorite Indian restaurant. The boyfriend and I hit it up during a lunch buffet. The service 5 stars. They are so kind, attentive and friendly. That really stood out to us both during our first visit. The lunch buffet isn't as large with a variety of entrees as I've seen other places but their quality in taste is superb. They offered a two salad options, a soup and various main entrees. They kept bringing out fresh naan to the tables if asked. The soup was delicious. It was a lentil based soup. The salad may be an Americanized option, but it had a mango based dressing that was so delicious. The greens in the salad were rich and fresh. Everything paired together really well... and this is just the salad and soup I'm talking about! The entrees were good. They had a mixture of 3-4 veggie options and 2-3 meat options out for the buffet, a tray of appetizers, and can't forget the rice. The bf and I really enjoyed the service and quality of food. I've had dinner here as well and the service remains outstanding with the food quality only getting better. They have a huge dinner menu serving herbivores and Carnivores alike. I am very particular about giving 4 stars on anything let alone a perfect 5, but this place deserved a 5 star from the get go. Customer service is great, the owner always comes out and greets his customers and asks if everything is to their liking. I only have positive things to say about this place and the owner. The food sells itself, so delicious and authentic but the ownership of this establishment makes it a solid 5 stars for me. If you like Indian food, you need to come here and try this amazing food! I can't comment on the food because I didn't eat there - my bf and I went hoping they had a lunch buffet as shown in some of the pictures, but they didn't. I called the night before to ask but their number didn't work. We showed up at 11:35 on a weekday but they weren't ready to seat anyone. I've been here twice due to the convenient location for me, once for buffett and another for ala carte. The chef is very friendly and comes out greets you and you always water refills and free flowing naan. For a brand new restaurant the place looks very dated but I would not hold that against them. My biggest gripe is the food overall decent but is very "toned down". Indian food is not much without it's authentic strong spice blend and deep flavors. A worthy stop over however... read more

First time here! Husband ordered lamb tika masala which came with basmati rice; I ordered tandoori chicken and we shared a garlic naan - everything was excellent! The tandoori chicken brought me back to when I first tried it when I was five years old, which is when I fell in love with the dish. First time trying lamb tika masala and it was so delicious! The food was good but the service was lacking and they weren't even busy. It took too long for them to take our order and once we got our food they didn't check on us. Stopped here with my Wife while driving from Bakersfield to Sacramento. Some of the Yelp Reviews said this place had Vegan Options and since we both love Indian Food, we decided to check it out. Long story short, this is a great place to eat! First, as we were being seated, the greeter asked if we preferred Regular or Garlic Naan because they bake a fresh order for each table. It was warm, soft and yummy! All the Buffet dishes we tried were fresh and very flavorful and I really liked the way they clearly shown which dishes were Vegan (see photos). We had Lentil Soup, Indian Salad with Mango Dressing, Fresh Greens from the House Salad, Basmati Rice, Vegatable Pakoras, Aloo Gobi and Garlic Naan. None of the dishes were overly spicy and the silverware was spotless. The Water tested 116 (not bad) on our TDS meter. Finally, the Service was excellant during a busy lunch hour and we will definitely stop here on our way back. read more

We went to this restaurant for dinner on a weeknight. We were seated promptly and the restaurant was about half full. The server took our drinks and food order soon after we were seated. The drinks came out within 10 minutes but the food took another 70 minutes. At that point we were very frustrated and the server never came and gave us any updates on how much longer or why it was taking so long. After the food came out we were still missing the appetizer which came another 10 minutes later. By this time we were almost half way done with our food and didn't even want the appetizer. There was no sauce/chutney with the appetizers and upon asking it took another 5 minutes for it to come out. The food was OK and nothing great. Chicken tikka masala had good flavor but was cold, Saag paneer did not have much flavor, seekh kabob was dry, shrimp biryani was OK, shrimp masala was good, naan was good and rice were good. We finally paid our check and left the restaurant 2.5 hours after we were initially seated. I will never go back to this place again. read more
