While in the area we made it a point to stop at Slick's for lunch and I am glad we did. The menu can be a little overwhelming at first, but the staff was great and talked us fully through the selections so we knew how to order exactly what we wanted. The inside decor is industrial and clean, it's rustic and wide open as well. The staff was super friendly and quick to help. The food. It was amazing. The fries tasted freshly made and the fire fries had a little bite to them, but they weren't overwhelming. I didn't need the ranch with them, but it was a nice touch. The burgers are old school home made style. The kind that Eddie Murphy jokes about in Raw. They are thick and juicy, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The buns are fantastic and sourced locally, literally right down the road. The condiments all tasted fresh and there wasn't a unsatisfied customer at the table. Not pictured are the pimento bites, I ate them too quickly. They were amazing though, but be careful and let them cool. If you go in too quick they teach you lessons with super hot cheese. Wow! I'm not usually a big fan of counter service, but the food at Slicks was worth the extra effort! There isn't much to write outside of the deliciousness of the burgers but I will add, what little service you get was outstanding! I took my wife and two girls there for dinner the other night and we got three 7os burgers with fries and the pimento bites. There isn't anything super fancy about these but they were cooked perfectly and the fries were perfect. We went back two nights later and repeated what we got before. read more

Pretty decent no frills burgers. Unlike typical fast food places, the burger and fries didnt feel greasy at all. The patty was well seasoned and crisp on the edges. I really liked the buns they used, it was more buttery than other places which added to the flavor. The hand cut fries were good too and werent soggy at all. I had to deduct 1 star due to the price. Juicy, greasy, delicious bar food. Slick's is a laid-back spot with some goooooood food. Service was quick and friendly on a Saturday night, and it wasn't very busy inside around 8 PM. Our group of 4 ordered at the counter and sat down to a table as soon as we walked in. They have a decent beer selection and they seem to have a lot of other fun drinks (I'd like to try their frozen drinks in the summer!). The real highlight was the fried pickles appetizer - those pickles were double fried to perfection. Additionally, the fried chicken sandwich was sooo tasty. I was originally going to State of Confusion next door but it looked too crowded for me on this particular occasion. So I walked into Slick's which had one couple at the bar. And it was an excellent audible call. I ordered a make your own burger with fried egg, fig chutney, chevre (goat cheese), and balsamic reduction. Also ordered a cup of chili and some crispy brussel sprouts. The burger was a flavor explosion - juicy, savory, and sweet. The chili was a bit spicy with that homemade taste - reminded me of my mom's chili. It was also a pretty good sized bowl for the cup order. Lastly the brussel sprouts were quite crispy with a ton of flavor from whatever meat it was cooked with as well as flavor from the sauce. If brussel sprouts were this good always, kids would be eating them for dessert. What caught me off guard was two things. The quality of all of the dishes. And the quantity of the brussel sprouts (starter) and cup of chili (definitely a normal bowl size). So much flavor in everything. Lastly, the inside is a pretty cool setup. The kitchen is set up inside of an old diner train car thingy. All that being said, it was well worth the visit - don't let the lack of a crowd deter you from coming here or trying any place. read more

For a burger place they sure have a lot of other options! Proteins include beef, lamb, Turkey, veggie and chicken. Sandwiches like Reuben, gyros and hot chicken Sammie. Fish and chips, mac and cheese balls, baked beans , wedge salad , wraps and kids specials . And mor Burgers come in different sizes from baby to slick. Slick sides including fries, side salad, potato salad and coleslaw. I got the buffalo chicken salad and loved it! Chicken is plump a Watch out it is spicy but the coleslaw cools it down nicely! The fries are divine! Get a side of cheese whiz and then they are over the top fabulous. Loud music plays and people are be bopping in their seats. Some evenings a live band plays outside in the covered patio. Inside bar seating too. Beer taps , some wine and fountain drinks. Super fun place for the entire family! We ordered a variety of smash burgers and each of their fry options! The fries were so good and big portions. The burgers have smash burger taste in a thicker patty. We all devoured the burgers when we got home. We were in town visiting the Tennessee Aquarium and wanted to try a local restaurant. Slick's is a cute, restaurant in a nice garage type building. There's an option to dine inside or outside. Parking is across the street. My family and I had the burgers which were very good. We started with the brussel sprouts and they were interesting and different from what I'm used to. They weren't bad but different. Burgers were great. The only reason they are receiving 4 stars is because we weren't greeted when we came in. We walked in and sat down and waited for a server while looking at the menu (which is hanging above the counter). After staring at the menu for about 5/6 minutes, us and a party of 6 finally realized we had to place our order at the counter. It just would've been nice for a staff member to let us know we needed to come up to order. The menu is pretty busy so it's very easy to miss the order here on the menu. read more

We wanted to try out a new place today so we took to yelp looking for somewhere that had a good burger in the Chattanooga area. We had actually settled for "Main Street meats" so we headed that way and found a parking place in front of that establishment When we arrived my wife suggested we ate at the place next door (slicks) because they had more burger choices When we went in there was two tables already waiting for food and a few people setting at the bar. You walk to the back of the resturant to order. When we were about at the register we were told "hold on a minute and we will get your order". A few minutes went by and someone finally came up and took our order. I had a slick burger (7oz) and my wife had the sissy burger (4oz) both combos with fries and a drink. That came out to about $36 with a 15% tip So after putting our order in we fix our drinks and sit there probably close to 45 minutes till our food shows up. I guess I could see that if the place was busy but it clearly wasn't. I can overlook the slow process of getting our food but the thing that bothered me was my wife's burger was clearly cooked to what I would call rare. After waiting 45 minutes she said it was fine and she was gonna go ahead and eat it. My burger was what I would have called well done. Not sure how they cooked two burgers on the same order at two totally different temps but whatever. So I had ate the majority of mine but I noticed my wife had stopped eating hers and I asked if it was just too undercooked to eat. She said no that's not it. She said there's a long hair running through her patty (I assume from when whoever had made it due to it being in the inside) Anyway, I've never been one to get a free meal that I've already been eating on but I wanted to bring up the situation to the people working there so I walked the burger up to the bar and explained the undercooked burger and the hair in it. To be fair they offered to cook another one or some ice cream in its place but by that time it's safe to say everyone's appetite was gone. I'm not saying to not give this place a try but I did want anyone considering it to know my experience. read more

I like the concept with the burgers, with your ability to select your burger size, as well as the accoutrements to complement your burger. On this trip I went with the oversize burger, bacon and bleu cheese. Nice taste, not at all greasy which is very important. I added the hand cut fries, complemented by a nice cold beer from the fairly broad local beer selection. Here's the deal with me, I'm not a big fan of seasoned fries, which these were. More importantly though, with hand-cut fries I expect some "meat" (solids) to the fry, I want to taste the potato and I am not at all a fan of the shoestring type, which these were, as they have no taste to me. This is a subjective call, and what works for me, not for everyone. Service was fine, though it took forever to get my check, and enjoyed a conversation with one of the chef's before he went on shift. I would have given a 3.5 if half stars were available. Fantastic! I came through Chattanooga for work this week. Made it out to several restaurants for lunch and dinners, but only Slick's did I go to twice. My first visit I got the "slick burger" combo meal, sitting around $20. The fries were nice and crispy and the burger delicious (but the bun was sort of tiny?). My second visit I got the "black jack" chicken sandwich. with bacon. 10/10 would recommend. There is a nice, large patio out back. Didn't get to sit out there though sadly. :( The service was kind and quick! I really enjoyed my visits. May need to come back to sit at the bar and try the beer menu. read more

We stopped here first when arriving in Chattanooga. It came highly recommended by a friend. We were greeted immediately upon entering, and the atmosphere was very inviting. Tried out based on recommendation for being kid friendly. We have 3 kids and decided to dine outside. There were several other families there as well. Very laid back with kids up and down during our wait for food. The guy at the counter helped us order. Most of us had burgers and my son ordered chicken tenders. The chicken tenders are huge. We also ordered what turned out to be some of the best fried pickles that I have ever had. Warning. The sauce was very spicy so ask for ranch unless you can handle the heat. Parking - there is parking in the rear of the restaurant. Also behind the restaurant is a cool bar/dog park. Visited on a week night and it was pretty empty. They have a big menu to choose from, lots of options. Although the place was not busy at all our food took extremely long! We waited 35+ minutes for 3 burgers and a basket of chicken tenders. When I asked about the wait time on our food the worker seemed very annoyed, but so were we! When we received our order everything was exactly as we ordered and the burgers were hot and fresh. They were good for a burger joint, no complaints but nothing extra special to write about. For the portion, I found that the cost outweighed the value. We more than likely would not go back, taking our whole experience into consideration. read more

Updating my review! My biggest issue in my last review was overdone fries. It makes my heart sad to order French Fries and have them overdone so that sadness is what prompted my last review. So we ordered online and WHATS THIS I SEE!!!? an option online to have your fries less fried and with extra salt!! BE STILL MY FRENCH FRIED POTATO LOVING HEART! Less fried and extra salted fries are basically a regular at the top of my I GOTTA HAVE IT NOW list. I was so excited about this to go order y'all. I was not disappointed! The fries were so good, not too hard not too soft and just the right amount of extra salty goodness. I could eat an entire bag of those fries and probably want more. My other craving is a good chicken sandwich. Slicks chicken sandwich was really good! Flat top chicken cooked to perfection with the kind of cheese I wanted (American for the meltiness) , the kind of condiments I wanted (ketchup & Mayo all day!), and all the yummy trimmings that make it complete (the usual but hold the onions). All between two soft buns! Perfection! I'll eat this chicken sandwich over and over again and never get bored with it. First time there. We went on Friday around 5p. My husband gave a thumbs up to their burger. I ate the lamb gyro and it was really good. My friend had the veggie burger and said it was the best veggie burger she had ever had. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be back! read more

What a cool experience! I loved everything about this place. The vibe is laid back and welcoming. My husband and I sat at the bar. We asked about the drink specials and were directed to the menu board that was too cute. We chose the liquid Mary Jane and were so happy we did. This is a rum drink that packs a punch! Next we ordered the potato skins and a bowl of chili. The potato skin were baked light and fluffy with tasty fresh toppings. The chili........well, the best I've ever had! By the time we devoured the appetizers we decided to split a burger and try the truffle fries. The meat is seasoned well but it does not overpower the freshness of the meat which is amazingly tender and moist. The truffle fries were sooooo good. They will be my go to side from now on for sure. Super cool, delicious burger joint downtown. It's counter service where you fill your own cups, but the staff still deliver your food and cleanup the tables, so a tip is appreciated. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with the piña caliente addition, which added grilled pineapple, avocado, and habanero salsa. This was a $3 upcharge which while yummy, was a bit steep. I rounded off my sandwich with fries and a drink for another $3. The chicken breast was massive and my sandwich completely fell apart when I tried to eat it. My husband ordered a cheddar burger in their medium size, which was very good. The cashier warned us that the fries in the combo wasn't enough to share, so we both ordered some. Next time we'll just order one because there was plenty to share. We sat outside at a picnic table with an umbrella and it was great. The feel of the place is laid back and casual. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is price. While the food was delicious and we'll for sure go back, the price point ($30+ for 2 people) was a tad much for a regular burger joint. read more

We were traveling through Chattanooga on the way south west and stopped here for a quick bite. This place is pretty tasty. It has an inviting indoor and outdoor venue. I had the grilled chicken breast sandwich with pepper jack cheese and my husband had the burger. I loved that the bun was small and good and the contents inside was large. Not a fan, when the focus of a burger or sandwich is an overly large bun. Regarding the fries....I know some people love these type of fries, but they remind me of "In and Out" fries and I have never really cared for that type of fry. Cute place as far as restaurant looks. I've only been once and wouldn't choose to go back but wouldn't be opposed at the idea. However I would certainly not order a burger here. At least, if you like medium rare burgers, ask for medium or well because when I asked I got what was like the greasiest, off color burger; kind of looked like the center was totally uncooked (alarmingly similar to another review of this place.) It was pretty mid at best to be honest. My friend who came with me ordered a burger and his was not so greasy so I was a little disappointed. This location has a fresher, cool look with high ceilings and looks like a garage building with doors opening behind the bar. The bar is small and nothing great but a good place to have a burger while watching the one TV they have. They did upgrade it a while back to a larger TV from the small one I posted about in previous reviews But I am here for a burger. My selection was the Slick BBQ burger. Nice thick burger with bacon, large slice tomato and lettuce and BBQ. I skipped the cheese. TheBBQ with thick bacon is a great combo and I get it a lot here. Fries were very good and unique and I liked them a lot. Outside area looks nice on better days and you can see into Bar when weather allows to open that up. Tonight on a Friday they had some live music, Chattanooga Blues. The guy was pretty good and another nice touch I will be back for the food alone.
