What's happening to this place? Came in last week through the drive thru and when I got home, I had someone else's order. Called in and they wrote my name down for a free meal and a jar dessert, awesome. Went in today to get that free meal and was met by a group of what appeared to be corporate management. One of them took my order. I just got home and my order is wrong again. Wrong side. I call in now, pretty frustrated. I was just told that I can come in for that side. I live in Urbana. I'm not driving all the way over there again to pick up a correction to another mess up. Come on now. Even the managers can't get an order right? Wow. Quite possibly won't be back. Update: guess what I just found in the cole slaw I didn't order.... see photo.

Slim Chickens is a cool spot on Neil with a simplistic menu and some tasty options at a good price. After some deliberation, I went with the 3 and 3 for $9.99 which included 3 chicken strips and 3 chicken wings. They had quite a few sauce options but I opted for the cajun ranch and the gravy. The wings were plump and juicy with a nice crispy exterior and a beautiful glistening white interior. The meat slid off the bone and the cajun ranch was delicious. The wing itself desperately needed seasoned, however. It was cooked perfectly, but was rather bland. The ranch saved it for sure. The tenders were also very good and cooked to perfection. Like their bone-in brethren, however, they also needed more seasoning. The gravy was somewhat bland (tastes canned) so I ended up using the cajun ranch for these as well. I chose the fries as my side (a difficult choice given the number of options) and they were pretty good (but also a bit bland). Overall, I was pleased with the amount of food I got for the price and I ultimately enjoyed it all. To get to the next level, this place needs to work on their seasoning both for the meat and the breading. A little more salt also goes a long way! Will try again. 3.5 stars.

I order the Cayenne Ranch Chicken Sandwich Meal, it is flavourful, however, the piece of chicken was small. It is a good option if you are not very hungry. $7.29 630-1340 Calories A fried chicken breast with Cayenne Ranch, lettuce, pickles, homemade fried onions, Cayenne seasoning on a toasted bun, served with a side, and a drink cup for you to fill at the Drink Shack. I've been eating at Slim Chickens in Arkansas and Oklahoma for a few years, but I've spent the past few years in locations without them. Having recently moved to Illinois I see one nearby and notice they've also finally added sandwiches to their menu! I had to give one a try and it was delicious. Their fries were also the right level of crispy on the outside. I look forward to trying the rest of their sandwiches.

First time here while in Champaign. With all the hype of Popeye's & Chick Fil A going on, I was interested in trying a chain not familiar up in the Chicagoland area. I had the 3 piece wing/3 tender meal. I added a side of coleslaw. I opted for the Korean Bbq sauce on my wings. Perfect amount of zest. Slim Chickens was quite tasty and everything was hot and fresh. The side of BBQ sauce though was a little runny and could have skipped that. I would definitely return when back in the area. Window employee was courteous enough but needs brushing up on the menu.

Restaurant review Although central Illinois doesn't have a Chick-fil-a, this would be sort of the closest thing around here. Everything is always made fresh and cooked to order which means a slight delay in getting your food. There is a wide selection of tenders, wings, sandwich, salads, and wraps. I have been here about 3 times and I would say that the food is just okay. For my first meal, I got the cayenne ranch chicken sandwich plate which comes with fries and a medium drink. You can swap your side for any other side. The sandwich reminds me of the spicy chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-a. It is quite delicious, however I don't remember if it has any cheese... My next meal was the 5 and 5 plate with fiver wings and fiver tenders. There are multiple dipping sauces and the slim sauce and the honey mustard were delicious, however the tenders themselves were over fried and crunchy and the wings were also small and dry as well. I don't know if they are just overfrying the food, but my second experience was exactly the same. I ended my meal with there famous jar dessert where you get to keep a mason jar as a keepsake. Overall I would recommend the sandwich and the dessert, but the wings and tenders fall from the mark. Pros: best fried chicken sandwich in town, food made to order Cons: cook fresh usually means more wait time, dry tenders and wings Hidden deals: You can get any item on the menu without the drink which will cut down on the cost, this is not on the menu board with the price Health code rating: A. Clean and well kept. http://il.healthinspections.us/champaign/estab.cfm?facilityID=2499

Wayy to expensive for poor quality food. Ordered two sides of mac and cheese and both were served cold. Would not recommend.

Watson's is one of the cleaner and shinier hangouts but it still has some campus vibes. A lot to choose from. The prices aren't bad for portion and quality. Coming in the first time it wasn't that busy. It's a lot crazier when school is in session. This has been around for a while now but it's still a pretty cleaner looking kind of place okay to bring families of students or whatever. A lot on the menu. There's shit tons of drinks and we got a few of these. It's about $5 to get a slushie which hit the spot because outside it was hot. There's a few flavors to choose from which rotate. Among the cocktails are a few that are cool looking. I got one of the seasonal specials, the Campfire Mule. This was made with ginger beer, lime, and whiskey. It's about $12 for the cheapest entrees. She got the Tofu Basket, which was big enough for a meal. This was panko breaded tofu triangles and waffle fries, with a choice of a sauce. I got the Watson's Po Boy. This comes with a choice of protein and I got tofu. Comes topped with lettuce, onions, and a choice of sauce and got it with the vegan remoulade. Great stuff. Also has plenty of choices for chicken. They got the hot style. Got to say it has lots to choose from. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays. There's chicken of course but also plenty of things for vegans and vegetarians.

I am here for Ebertfest and it has now taken over an hour to get drinks, food, and dessert. I am trying to flag down my server because I was worried about the amount of time it was taking. She apologized and took off the dessert, but she seemed to be the only one working. I was near the back so I got to see all the other servers "yucking" it up and just standing around while this poor lady was doing laps. I am from the service industry and only 40 so I'm not being a Karen. This server deserves a huge raise and probably a better job. Pair that with them cutting down the menu, this place went to a "must see" in Champaign to a maybe. What I ate was tasty, but the rest of Champaign has caught up and starting to leave them behind.

Lots of nice craft beers available - some local. The service was nice and friendly. Nicole was my bartender/server. I enjoyed hearing about her favorite menu items. As you'll see from my receipt, everything has an itemized cost, so the place is a little pricey. But still worth it to me.
